(00:23):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio night too. From Detroit.
Five second air guitar, I hate that song, Fox Sports Radio.
Welcome inside the Jason Smith Show with my best friend
Mike Harmon about the mobile Geiko Studios. Is I'm in
Detroit again, finishing out the week here Mike Harmon in
(00:44):
Los Angeles? Are you sitting in my chair again? Well,
I'm sitting in this chair. I gotta remember to check levels, man.
I I need to look at my man Rob and
make sure he can hear Jesus. You said good hey,
and I'm like blowing me out here. He's now standing
in the hallway going what are you talking about? Like
I thought you just pop my ear drums with just
the introduction, and then I look and it's up to eleven. Okay,
(01:07):
I'm in spinal tap for crying out loud. Number one.
Not only are you sitting in my chair, your chairs chair? Now,
I told you you come back here in the other seat.
I can feel that you have raised the chair, sitting
higher like Phil Jackson's. You could be like like, now
this is I'm sitting in this chair now borderline standing
while while I'm in the chair. Sure, because I can
(01:28):
tell your your voice level sound different, so you're sitting
higher in the chair. No, I'm more. I pulled the
microphone down a little lower so I could talk into it.
Might I watched a lot of Gene Okerland tribute videos
last night and all those great interviews, and what do
you do? You bark into the microphone over the top.
So I'm like a lot of wrestlers. I came in
all tatted up and face painted and ready to go.
(01:49):
Look at you, Look at you man. Wow, I'm gonna
get back there. My key card is not gonna work.
I'm not gonna get my parking pass. It's my Carmen
show Box Sports Radio. Well, we have a lot of
big stuff to get to tonight. Shawn Merriman is gonna
be with us in studio on this hour hanging out.
We got a couple of big basketball games to get to.
(02:09):
But first I want to say congratulations as former Jets
safety Ed Reid nominated for the Pro Football Cham Fame
class could go in on the first ballot. Last year
we saw three in Shrinese go in the first time.
We could see three more this time as Tony Gonzalez
Champ Bailey who didn't play for the Jets. Both of
(02:30):
them are nominated, but former Jets safety Ed Reid could
go in the Hall of Fame on his first trick.
You're coming into my line of thinking of if they
played for my team, I'm claiming him. If you get
Ken Reid. Absolutely I got a problem with that. I do.
I do have a little bit. I was telling Frostburg
before the show. I really thought Tony Gonzalez went in
(02:52):
last year, Like not that I pay you know, the
look they come and they go, and you just assumed
he was already in the Hall of Fame. Yeah, look,
I'm gonna take look Ed Reid, former Jet is nominate now.
Other modern era finalists were announced Thursday, which included former
Jet cornerback Tie Law, former Jet offensive lineman Alan Fanica,
and Kevin Mawai. So the Jets have four players who
(03:13):
could go into the Hall of very well represented, and
you're gonna bring co Tight along. He'll introduce each of them. Now,
I don't think co Tights actually allowed near the Hall
of Fame. Not not gonna happen. He could buy a
ticket and then stage. Now I think there's people there
with with with face recognition apps. Oh no, no, we're
keeping this guy out, not allowed. Wow, that's I was
(03:35):
watching a Series of Unfortunate Events and there was a
an episode of keeping old Off out. This is not
Count old Off. There you go. Same thing is that
you're talking about frozen to like keeping Olaf out? Different count? Okay,
got you, he's account he's the Count. He's the Count.
So we'll continue to celebrate all the Jets who were
nominated for the whole ed ed and and hold on,
(03:58):
they got Tom Flora's in there there. Oh sure, show
we got We got a lot of big nominees this year.
We got three, Like I said, three guys could go
in on the first try. Somehow Jimmy Johnson's left up,
but we'll get into that later on. In you know,
that's the one thing to say is players always get
in first. Players get in first and the coaches. That's
like the big Hall of Fame mantrap. Players go first,
(04:19):
then coaches. Problem is the coaches are generally a lot
older when when they get into this part of the process.
I'm not saying you asked me to explain. I explained.
I feel like I gotta do a beeto cook. You
asked me a question, I answered, and now you don't
like my answer. I can't change it. I don't like
your answer. Speaking of things not liked, well, if you're
(04:42):
a San Antonio Spurs fan, you are liking what is
happening right now, early in the fourth quarter. We have
two huge marquee games in the NBA tonight. One kicks
off about a half hour from now. We have the
Red Hot Rockets and James Harden against the Golden State Warriors.
But right now San anton Neo is thumping Toronto one
(05:02):
oh two eight one ten minutes to go in the
fourth quarter. All five Spurs starters are in double figures. Meanwhile,
in his return to San Antonio for the first time
since his much publicized trade and the fact that he
just wanted to get out from San Antonio no matter what,
Kauai Leonard just seventeen points. Is shooting well tonight, eight
(05:25):
out of twelve from the floor, but seventeen points, he's
minus seventeen. The Raptors playing without Kyle Lowry, who missing
tonight's game with a back injury. Uh, they are just
getting absolutely boat raced. And the best part of this
game clearly was what we saw pregame introductions for Kawhi
Leonard and Danny Green, who was back as well. They
(05:45):
were both part of this trade. Obviously, Spurs fans are
upset with Kawhi Leonard. He wanted out. He never really
said why. The trust between he and Gregg Popovich broke
down over how to treat his injury last season. A
lot of it was was a round ppped up in
in mysterious thoughts and and and and tweets and opinions,
(06:05):
but we never really got the whole full story. It
was just a deteriorating relationship. Tonight, the Spurs played a
video tribute for both Kauai Leonard and Danny Green. They
almost canceled them because they were worried exactly what happened
was gonna happen. That was every time Kauai Leonard was
shown or introduced, he would be booed. Danny Green was cheered.
(06:29):
They put out a highlight video showing what both of
them did for the franchise. When they showed Danny Green
on the screen, they cheered. When they showed Kauai Leonard,
he was booed relentlessly. And then as the game went on,
every time Kawhi Leonard touched the basketball, still going on
right now, the Spurs fans did not miss a chance
to boo. Here's a sample, the chance of traitor coming
(06:53):
down on Kawhi Leonard as he heads to the free
throw line. That's the best. Raptors Radio network, that's the
but you can't even hear once. It sounds like a
football game. That's why I love the NBA. Just fans
yelling Trader Scott Letard goes to the free throw live.
That is absolutely NBA fantastic. Well, it's a drastic departure
(07:18):
from your normal Marve Albert the chant of defense instead
the chant of Trader ringing through. It's like Maximus in
the ring what Kaui Leonard had in mind time out
before the game starts. Yeah, that's amazing, love, Oh that
(07:41):
was the best. I mean look, they didn't know what
was gonna happen, but that whenever you say you hate
and you want out, fans aren't gonna love you. That's
just how it goes. Fans are not going to love you.
And it got so bad, it was so poisonous because
Kawhi Leonard I didn't say anything, you know, there was
no hey, look, here's my side of the story. Here's this,
that's just not who he is. So he was content
(08:02):
with how it went. And look now things are great
in Toronto and he's having fun in Toronto, was playing
great this year. I mean, obviously tonight's not their night,
but Toronto is having a phenomenal year. But Kawuahi Leonard
got the full out and out hatred of the entire
city of San Antonio. And that that's why there's no
better theater than that. You know, NFL, Major League Baseball.
(08:25):
You want to talk about things like fourth and goal
with a minute left to go, or bases loaded, two outs,
bottom of the ninth in the World Series, but you
just give me some kind of NBA hate like this,
and it just trumps everything else. Well, you got that
playoff lather that they get, right, we'll be watching it
when the Bears play the Eagles later on this week,
and some of the other venues in the in the
(08:46):
NFL where it gets boisterous, you talk about the twelfth
Man and everything going on in Seattle. Uh, in between
shots of guys throwing fish in a marketplace. Uh, you
get that. And this is playoff NBA at its best.
Kawai Leonard coming in average three and eight point to
a game after sitting out virtually the entire season and
(09:06):
letting family members do is talking again. You can play
me nine clips of NBA stars and say guests which
once guid for a million dollars, I may lose, I
will probably lose and so and we do this for
a living. And you wouldn't be able to pick him
out unless you live in San Antonio, and even then
it might be a difficult proposition. But for Kawhi Leonard
(09:27):
having the year, he is going back to San Antonio.
And now you see they got all the mop up
duty from the bench squad coming in and scoring and
pumping their fists. Yeah, they're in a nice lather. I
can't wait for postgame Popovitch, who was already in the Yeah,
we already moved on and what's the point of rehashing
and everything else? Like no, no, no, people will try
to get him to rehash a little bit tonight and
(09:49):
we'll see what kind of great two or three word
answers with grunts we were treated to. You know, I
got a feeling. I got a feeling Greg Popovich is
gonna be doing st end up tonight because the one
thing he doesn't want he doesn't want Kauai Leonard to win,
right so, because this this is a bad thing, and
normally pop is he's he's gruff and he grumbles and
(10:10):
all the I guarantee you're gonna get an engaged and
funny Greg Popovitch after the game because he wants to
be like, yeah, no big deal. Look Hawai, you showed up.
We beat the crap out of you by twenty five.
I'm in a good mood. I'm not saying he's gonna
start standing up, going, hey, how about a couple of
words about Kawai Leonard cheap and ugly? No, No, I'm
just kidding. I mean, he's not gonna do that. Maybe
doing a little a little bit of hey, New Year's resolutions.
(10:32):
You know, we're all you know, blood bygones, beat bygones
and start the year with a lot of positivity, and
he's good to see you guys again, and oh oh
maybe maybe he could be some of that over the holidays.
He will be a different Greg pop Witch tonight. Follow
I guarantee it, he's not going to be the same
gruff normal. You got food in your mouth? That's a
(10:53):
stupid question. I'm not gonna answer that. I mean no,
He's gonna give you a great answers tonight. First, did
you see us beat the ass? And then he just
walks off. He'll go on Mike Tomlin in the in
the Facebook Live Antonio brand, We're coming for that ass
next week. I'm gonna eat that ass up. Uh so
again one O five with eight fifteen to go in
(11:16):
the fourth quarter, our show live from the Geico Studios,
where fifteen minutes can save you fifteen percent and more
in car insurance. More info visit Geico dot com. But
as far as Kawuai Leonard goes all day today, the
lead up to this game was, Hey, the Raptors are
trying to sell Kauai Leonard on staying in Toronto because
look look at where they're they make the big trade,
(11:36):
basically DeMar de Rosen for Kawai Leonard. And look at
what it's done for the Toronto Raptors. They are at
the top of the Eastern Conference, just a half game
back in the Milwaukee Bucks. They are playing phenomenal and
all it's been as well, can we convince Kawai Leonard
to stay? And here's the spur and here's the Raptors plan,
and here's what they're doing and all these things to
get Kawhi Leonard to fall in love with the city
(11:56):
and stay. Here's the thing you got, why Leonard for
this year? Just worry about this year. If the city
is great and he likes it, he's gonna stay. If
he likes his teammates, he'll stay. If he likes what's
going on, he'll stay. If he wins, chances are he'll stay.
If you get to the NBA finals, it's hard to leave.
What what we got to the NBA finals. This is
(12:18):
really something. If he wants to go, he's gonna go. Alright, No, no,
No amount of what you do to convince is gonna say,
oh boy, I really feel bad about leaving. This is
not oh hey, stay at the party for another half hour.
Please please, please, please please, all right, I'll stay, here's
my coat. No, you're talking about a guy making a
decision on his future. If he wants to go to
(12:39):
Los Angeles, he'll go to Los Angeles. Wants to play
with Lebron, will play with Lebron. If he wants to
go to the Clippers, will go to the Clippers. All
you have to do is just treat him right and win.
That's what you need to be focused on, because there's
a big prize at the end of this that people forget,
and that is that stars like to go year by year. Now,
all right, don't It's not always well I'm leaving and
(13:01):
I'm gonna go sign eight years for two million dollars. Yes,
Kawhi Leonard does have a bit of an injury history,
but other players who have done it, I like to
do the same thing Lebron was doing it, Kevin Durant, everybody,
Chris Paul. They want to do one or two years
and keep their options open because I want to keep
hitting free agency as money gets bigger, and if I
want to get out of a situation, I don't want
(13:22):
to be seeing in a spot where boy, I'm stuck
for three or four more years. So guys like to
do that. Guys like to say, all right, one more year,
then I'll see who after this year. Kawhi Leonard may
not want to go to the Clippers. He made side.
You know what, I'm not sure they can't get anybody. Yeah,
I'm gonna stay here or now playing with Lebron may
not be what I think. Now, I'm gonna stay. Just
worry about this year, focus on winning. He's being treated well,
(13:45):
that's what you have to do if you're the Raptors.
Don't get caught up in how to convince him to
stay long term, because all you can control is what
goes on on the court. How far you go and
get him in that mode? Right, And you look at
where they're at, and they've got one more year on
the contracts each of Ibaka and Lowry. Uh. You've got
seven guys averaging at least nine and a half points
per game. You got a good balanced squad. And even
(14:07):
though he's averaging over twenty seven, he doesn't have to
carry the load every night. And they're getting a lot
of good running in the Eastern Conference. While things have
shifted some, they should have a pretty good run into
the playoffs, So why would you suddenly want to uh
shift gears once again? I think for Kawhi Leonard, you
look at it with the salary cap going up year
after year as things expand, stars are signing two and
(14:30):
one's over and over again, and that's more than likely
where you see him staying with Toronto on one of
those type deals. Twitter at how about a fresco Mike
at Swollen Dome The Jason Smith Show with my bas
friend Mike Harmon. We'll have more on this game. It
still continues to be all San Antonio midway through the
fourth quarter. But coming up next the first of our
(14:52):
weekend playoff locks in the National Football League, and I'm
kind of surprised that where I'm going from one of
my locks. We'll tell you what it's all a out.
Coming up next right here Fox for a car landing
on a roof to a car landing in the pool.
We've covered it. Talk to farmers. We know a thing
or two because we've seen a thing or two. We
are farmers. Bum bum under written my farmers took fire
(15:14):
insurance exchanges and affiliates products unavailable in every state. Be
sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith Show
with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven pm
Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the I Heart Radio
AP Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with My
bass friend Mike Harman, live from the Get Go Studios,
just a few minutes away from Houston and Golden State.
(15:35):
James Harden It's gonna play all by himself tonight against
the Warriors. But right now san Antonio putting the finishing
touches on the boat, racing of the Raptors one seventeen
to ninety two. Late in the fourth quarter, Kawhi Leonard
was booed all night every time he touched the ball.
He's got twenty one points, but not nearly enough. Meanwhile,
(15:56):
for the Spurs, boy feels like Gary Benton was walking around.
DeMar De Rosan's got nineteen. All the Spurs starters are
in double figures. As San Antonio raced out to a
thirty eight nineteen lead in the first quarter, they have
not looked back. We'll have more on this game coming
up in a little bit, but time to get to
some National Football League stuff. We got Shawn Merriman, former
(16:17):
All Pro stopping buy in studio with us and about
a little bit less than ten minutes from now, so
I want to stay here. Is gonna spend the rest
of the hour with us as we talk all the
big news in the NFL, Antonio Brown, all the playoff
previews we have. So let's kick things off with a
lock of this weekend, a lock of the lock of
the week. You're putting up a big boot or I
(16:38):
have a giant lock around your neck. Maybe you're wearing
a big chain since you're that closed stight mile. No,
nobody wore a chains in eight Mile. I don't think
they did well. I had a chain on his neck.
Everybody had a chain on their right. I don't think
they did, not every last one of them. I don't know.
What do you mean, every lie? I don't. I don't
think Kim basing or had a chain. I don't know.
Maybe McKay fighter had one, Maybe he did, maybe he
(17:01):
had to. Maybe Keith Youle had a chain. I don't know.
You mean Keith you remember when we went to the
same school. Now he's dating my mom. That was part
of the rap when he made it the Keith you'l rap. Uh.
But lock number one of the week in the playoffs.
(17:23):
I'd love to see the Nick Foles comeback tour continue.
It was announced today he's good to go. His rib
injury took all the reps in practice with the ones.
He is ready to go against the Bears. But I
can't see it happening after this week, Not on the road,
not when the Bears defense is just too good and
Philadelphia does not have enough weapons. The Bears defense is
(17:46):
gonna stifle Folds and the Eagles. This is one of
those games that slowly gets out of reach for the Eagles,
a game that will start out and one of those games. Okay, seven, three, ten,
three ten, six thirteen, six, sixteen, six, sixteen, nine, twenty
three nine. That's how it's gonna go. Because the Bears
(18:09):
are not gonna lose this game at home. My biggest concern, honestly,
is that Mitchell Trubisky has one of those four turnover days.
Because Philadelphias experienced coming off the Super Bowl, a lot
of these guys they all know in Chicago, this is
still new to the majority of them. This is why
I like the Bears. The only thing I'm worried about
Mike Harmon Trabinsky in a four turnover day. If that
(18:32):
doesn't happen, you are a happy man. My friends, you
get ready for your next game. I think some of
it comes down and they would be coming here to
Los Angeles and the forecast already in the low forties.
Are you like that? What are you ready for that?
What are you doing? What are you doing? What do
you have to think about? You already looking ahead? I
(18:53):
can do that. I'm looking, but I'm looking to do
the welcoming you in the Los Angeles. You know what,
now I'm changing my You're not going to change it
out there? What am I supposed to say? No? I
disagree with you. The big It was a big yeah.
But you know you know I'm a hot take artist
(19:14):
in Don't you know that? You slay it hot? There
it is? Yeah, there he goes, get the flames up
behind me like I'm the Satan himself. You've spoken it. Wow,
You've spoken into existence. You decided, You decided, Mr Mephistopholis,
you decided the Bears were coming out here. Bears. I do,
and I say this because the Bears run defense against
(19:37):
Adams and small Wood. Sprowls is the guy that you
worry about in terms of being able to do a
little bit of jailbreak. You see how much different this
offense is the last couple of weeks with him back inside. Also,
al Sean Jeffrey has been a big target for them downfield,
having a resurgence these last couple of weeks. I think
that's the kind of the nice way to put it,
the regal way to put it, with a bunch of
(19:59):
catches a for twenty yards and and and moving the
chains with Nick Foles, guy who's willing to put it
up a little more frequently. Uh Eddie Jackson didn't practice
on Wednesday, so that's something that's still out there to watch.
But the Bears pass rush getting after Nick Foles forcing
the ball out already tenderized in the ribs section. As
we've discussed that they were able to get after him defensively, Yeah,
(20:22):
they can get a pressure uh and some on Mitchell
Trabinsky and mitigate what they can do on the ground.
The thing is, the Eagles have done a good job
covering up for what's a bad secondary and I don't
know against Matt Naggy if they're able to do that here.
Uh Co went out of the backfield and some of
the trickeration slash exotic play calling that comes to bear
(20:45):
uh no pun intended meets takes the Bears over the top,
as they are the biggest favorite this week. You said
a lot of big things right there, but all I
can focus on is when you said tenderized ribs. I know, buddy,
you like that. He was thinking about getting some some
well my baby back, baby back. Uh So there we go,
(21:06):
first lock of the week, Bears over the eagle Like.
Unless Robisky turns into a really bad version of Geno Smith,
Bears are gonna win this game. Twitter at how about
a frescup Mike at Swollen Dome? Coming up in a minute.
Lights Out with Shawn Merriman, we talk all the big
NFL news, but first we're checking with Dev Carson to
find out what's trending. D C. Hello, gents. The sec
(21:28):
is leading rusher this season is headed to the NFL Draft.
Texas A and running back Trevin Williams forging his senior season.
He rushed for more than seventeen hundred yards and eighteen
touchdowns this season for the Aggies. The candidates for the
Pro Football Hall of Fame class often has been whittled
down to fifteen finalists. Among the finalists are three in
their first year of eligibility, tied Antoni Gonzalez, cornerback Champ Bailey,
(21:52):
and safety Ed Reid. Baseball News the White Sox have
made an official offer to free agent shortstop Manny Machado,
and according to USA Today, the offer closer to two
hundred million than three hundred mill. Phillies have signed picture
David Robertson to a two year deal. Just about to
wrap things up in San Antonio as Kawai Leonard and
the Toronto Raptors made a visit back to the lone
(22:14):
Star State Spurs with a one nineteen one oh two
lead over the Raptors to seven to go in the game.
Another game currently had a way Nuggets at the King
Sacramento ute to go in the first just about to
get underway from Oracle. Warriors and Rockets will tip off
in a moment, and we'll get a look at those sneakers.
Warrior star Steph Curry plans to where they're gonna be
(22:36):
NASA theme sneakers during tonight's game. He's going to sign
the shoes and sell them in an online auction. Of course,
the big joke is that he was the moon walk there.
It didn't happen. It was a conspiracy theory theorist on
a podcast last month. But anyway, the proceeds will be
donated to a local STEM education program in the Bay Area.
(22:57):
We'll be back to the Jason Smith Showing about ten seconds,
But first a word from farmers. From a hotter balloon
landing on a car to a load of concrete falling
on one, we've covered it. Talk to farmers. We know
a thing or two because we've seen a thing or two.
We are farmers under written my Farmers truck Fire Insurance
exchanges and affiliates, products unavailable in every state. Mike Jason,
(23:17):
back to you guys. Thank you d C. We're live
from the Get Go Studios, The Jason Smith Show with
my bas friend Mike Harmon awaiting the arrival as he's
coming in to sit down now Shawn Merriman, lights out,
three time All Pro Pro bowler with the San Diego
Chargers and the Buffalo Bills. Harmon, I hope you're going
to welcome him in my body, slamming him on a table.
(23:38):
Well in tribute to our guy, me gene Oakerland, who
we played a bunch of clips yesterday. That's what I'm
about to do right now. I'm gonna press slam him
and then stand over him and start talking. Unless I
won't because you'll get up very quickly, and uh, we'll
responding kind and then some. I'm sure he's been doing
a lot of training, you know. I mean he he's
all yoked up, coming in for new everybody else is
(23:59):
in New Year's resolutely. He's like, the hell with that.
I did it last year. I would hope you would
have video rolling so we can get you mean, we
get that at the TMZ. Suddenly we're famous. My man
just gave me a shirt, so I'm feeling good. Now
I can go. I can look the part anyway, all right,
body slam him now, all right, I can try that.
Sean Marinan joins us in studio. I'm good to see him, brother.
(24:19):
How are you? What's up? Man? How you doing? Locked
and loaded? I mean we're back. The band's altogether. Look,
we got bigger TVs for our aging eyes as we
get ready by bit. That's right. All those demands you
can leave my shirt with with harmon, I'll get it.
You brought a shirt for me? No, uh, yeah, small. Well,
(24:40):
so he can add like this medium, so we can
be like the Northwestern Strength coach Alex Spanos jumping around
like a pogo stick in his sleeves, off man, just
rocking around with with the with the Bison tries out.
You haven't seen his tries you don't, nor have we.
You brought me one with sleeves. Come on, I don't
wear sleeves. I don't do I don't, I don't. I
don't run like come on. So hey, how are you doing? Man?
(25:03):
How you been the last couple of months? I'm great, man.
Everything's been going well. Busy as always, but you know
this this season has been wow. I mean right not
you know, not just with the Charge, but just around
the league. So um, you know, just doing my thing man,
just all, you know, staying active obviously, moving around with
lights house off. I just dropped some fresh look at that,
some fresh lights out gearby so that Tillies next week. Actually,
(25:24):
so you guys are getting before the stores. I'm bringing
about before Tillies, has it? Hey, you know I'm feeling
specials as the new year get started. You know, I
was telling you yesterday Jason that we needed something to
really get things started right and me taking over this
chair and usurping your throne was part one. And then
Sean bringing us in from the heritage collection is new
(25:46):
lights out gear? Uh rocking that? Thanks about much? Man?
It always did? You did? You also send them to
Antonio Brown? You can get him to the Chargers. I
think by just sending him T shirts now he'll probably
throw it at me and walk out of practice. I
don't know. Hey, yeah, sure, what do you make of
everything going on there with him? I mean all this
stuff we've seen, there's got to be so much going
(26:08):
on behind closed doors with this. What do you make
of this? You know what? To be honest, it's a
shame because he has he has so much talent, right,
He's done so much in the NFL, and when you
do things like this, this is the one thing that
people remember you as. Right, and it sucks because he's
done so much. But you're gonna you will be this.
You're gonna be that guy right that had these incidents.
(26:29):
You're gonna be the selfish guy and uh that everyone's
finger pointing. And you know, now when I'm talking about
Levian bell any, what we're talking about Antonio Brown. But
Levian Bell has kind of been that personality over the
last couple of years, but he's taken you know, Antonio
Brown is taking a light from everything like Levian Bell
has done. That's how bad the situation has gotten. So
it's gonna be hard to go forward and keep playing
(26:50):
the organization to get back in the locker room because
guys are starting to feel a certain type of way
about you. They already they have seen you act out.
You went overboard this last time when they needed you
the most, you missed a walkthrough, and you're doing this
got people guys in the locker room till you don't
forget it. Don't forget it. Might shake your hand and
be cordial because they have to, but they never forget. Well,
(27:11):
you know, it's funny. He's also the hippo on the
mass singer uh Fox is highly rated debut last night.
But the Steelers for all these years, right, whatever was
going on, we're always looking at them as that model
franchise that nothing got out of out of closed doors.
Now that and and obviously he had the video in
the locker room a couple of years ago, but that
(27:32):
was a one off, right, that seemed to be a
one off and then all of a sudden this year,
all the dirty laundry was left out and they forgot
to pick it up. But see that that's when you
know what's that to the end? Right, Because when it's
not at the end, they want to keep passing it up.
If it's not at the end, they sweep things under
the rug. Everything comes out when you on the way
out the door. This is Mike Tomlins, this is this
(27:52):
is this is Mike Tomlins. This is the organization saying,
you know what, we're finished. And by the way, on
the way out, what about the other ten things you've done? Right?
So we're gonna we're gonna bring that up, but we're
gonna make sure that the media and in people in
NFL or around the NFL, we all know about it
on your way out to do it, because that's that's
(28:12):
the ultimate finish, that's the finisher, right. They want you
to have this stigma on the way out, on the
way out the door, that's when you hear about things.
And most so is there anyway they come back next
season and Antonio Brown is still a Steeler because they
can't get what they want to and trade they you know,
they because they're gonna have to give them away. I mean,
I think that he's he's too valuable, he's too good
(28:37):
for them too, you'll be giving away now. They're they're
gonna make it easier for him. He's, for one, he's
already made it easier on himself to go right. He's
done everything he needed to do to get out the door,
even even the last thing with James Harrison when they
were doing the video together. That that's now you're not
even poking at Ben Rothersburg and you're not poking at
(28:59):
the players. You're not you're poking at the fridgise. Now
you're poking at the fans because you got all this
heat surrounding you right now. And by the way, we're
gonna joke around with James James Harrison like it's a
joking Matta, when I guarantee you by him doing what
he did Dave, you know on the walkthrough, it's not
a joking Matt. At some of them office Alinement. It's
not a joking matter to some of those guys on
(29:21):
the defense side of the ball. But yet he can
joke about it, you know, with James Harrison, and that's
just not cool. Well, because we saw with the offensive
lineman during the whole Lady on Bell saga early on,
normally not talking talking out like they did. I mean,
I'm highly heralded and and a unit that is one
of the best in the league. When they're all healthy
(29:42):
and they all took up normally don't talk about people's
money and and talk about contracts or whatever. And then
all of a sudden that all started blowing up. And
they still want seven and two, right, seven two and
one before this all started to blow up once again. Yeah,
but see that's that's the problem, right for one, every
player knows not to comment on another guy's contract and
(30:02):
his money. You pose it this this was you were
you supposed to say, I hope he gets in the
locker room. We would love to have him here. I
hope he gets what he wants. You know, you say
all the things, I wish he was here and he'd
be better with the team. Boom, You're done when you
start going overboard and saying things about the guy personally,
When you say that he's you know, being selfish when
(30:22):
he should be here. I don't know what's his problem.
When you start saying things like that, then it's gone
too far, and those those things can't be mended in
the locker room because now football is such an emotional
and the passionate game that you might shake someone's hands
and you might say it's okay, but you're being cordial
(30:43):
enough not to have a fight or something happened in
the locker room when he gets back, and that's all
it is. Three time approach. Shawn Merriman with us in
studio the Jason Smith Show. It's my best threading Mike
harm In Live from the Getic Studios. All Right, So
when you take a look now at a guy like
Antonio Brown, is he the new generation of superstar, of
(31:05):
of of diva wide receiver superstar Now that's gonna that
can walk out on his team to three and four times?
Or is he still an outlier? No, that's for one.
I think hall wide receivers the diva's in a way,
especially you know, especially the great ones in Antonio Brown,
he is a great one. Um. But nowadays because of
the social media and everything's out there, and it's out
(31:28):
there right now, and some of the things you've done
in the past, like you know, what was the wide
receiver played for bit um give me a damn ball.
Keisan was like that, that's years ago, right, Yeah, but
getting after him. Yeah, but you know what, there was
no Twitter, there was no Instagram, there was no going
(31:50):
Facebook and live there was there was none of this
stuff back then. Well he's still barking about it. Twenty
years later on. He's everything. He had note books he's
still bringing up. Yeah, but you know what, the the
great at the wire receiver is the or player in general,
the more is accepted, right, And that's that's not just
what this deal is. That's what that's. Whatever job you do,
(32:10):
what driving around, if you could, if you're productive, you
can produce, people tend to tolerate you a little bit more. Period.
The problem is now that they missed the playoffs with
a loss to the Oakland Raiders in the middle of
that exactly, so you when that happens now was real
finger point in time. And that's that's what we're seeing.
(32:32):

time pro bowler all pro ceo of lights Out Brand,
got some new gear that he's dropping at Tillies. Dropped
off a couple little uh presents for us here, a
little post Christmas presents. Very thankful for that. And when
does it hit Tillies again? Next week? Next week be
(33:37):
Ontillies and uh, you guys get it first, so nice
looking up and he got it lights Out brand as well,
and everything. You're all set, man, you're rolling, Yeah, man,
had it had it come strong to ship big two
thousand nineteen and work expaning stores. So I'll have a
list of those stores pretty soon. Look at that kicking
ask taking names. He's traveling, He's he's going to c
e s. He's gonna like give like keynote, addresses them,
(34:00):
then body slam people. He's doing ABC Television here locally,
He's doing all sorts of media opportunities and still training
like like the baddest man in the neighborhood. Yeah, man,
how's that? Can I be your hype man? What's what
do you charge our monthly? How do you? How do
you we? We could come doing? Yeah? You just just
(34:21):
gotta bring him a new T shirt every days' not you, bunny,
I need a little more gnats the new look. You
can check it out on Shawn Merriman's Twitter page at
Shawn Merriman. There lights Out the Big Pin tweet right
up there. All the new lights Out gear brand again
next week at Tilly's right. But before next week, we
got a big game coming up. This weekend got the
(34:42):
Chargers rematch with the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens came into
Los Angeles and pulled a big SWITCHERU. The last time
they played a few weeks ago, the defense time need
Philip Rivers Lamar Jackson fooled the Chargers. How do you
see this coming out this game? Well, it's gonna be tough,
right because you you're planning a really am my best
defense in the National Football League, and when that happened,
(35:03):
you know that it's gonna be a hard hitting game.
It's gonna be a close game, is you know, They're
not gonna be a lot of big plays and stuff happens,
you know, So that's what kind of game you're gonna see,
especially what's on the line here. I mean, it's it's playoff.
It's it's playoff football. You know, it's time to go,
and you know, you look at the game, and I
was there. I was actually at the game, the Charges
doing this really cool thing with me where I fired
(35:25):
off the cannon, which I didn't know. So I got
to the game and I've seen plenty of people have,
you know, fired to cannon. So I'm just thinking, like,
they're gonna bring the camera over, put the camera in
my face, and I'll just slam on the slam on
the button. Didn't do my thing, but it had this
really cool, like forty five second minute tribute before the
game about the fiftieth anniversary for the Chargers team, and
(35:47):
I was like, I got emotional a little bit, and
I wasn't really planning on doing the lights out dance
or anything, but they were playing the video. Then the
crowd got extremely loud, and I said this, I gotta
do it. Turning getting had come through the tunnel. I gotta,
I gotta do it. I had to give it to him,
and um, it was great. But I got a chance
to see that that Ravens team close, to see how
(36:08):
good they really are. This team is physical. I don't
think I've seen one guy in the defense have a
tackle by himself. It was always a swarm of people.
And that that's when that's when you know that what
would level this defense in this team is playing that
throwback to old school football. So we've got that one
on on tap Seattle Dallas one that's intriguing. Both teams
(36:29):
run the football and then you're looking for one big play.
Can can Russell Wilson be the guy to go into
Dallas and make that one extra play and keep his
team rolling? Yeah, And that's you know, that's what we
trust the most, you know, we trust Russell Wilson, and
I think there's gonna be a great game. It's gonna
be another one. But they they both can run a football,
right they both um find a way to to just
(36:53):
hand the ball off and and uh, you know, just
really be a headache for you. And at the end
of the game, close in the game, you're just gonna
see who can have less turnovers, who can make the
less amount of mistakes, and really it's gonna come to
three or four possessions. Let me let me throw you
a stack from that. I saw earlier today, Rick Gosling
hundred eight individual one hundred yard rushing games in the
(37:15):
NFL this season. Their teams were eight two and one.
Old school football still lives, Sean, Yeah, and it's it's
fun to watch, and it's not about the quarterback every time,
and they're throwing seventy percent at the time, and we're
gonna see one of these hard foot hard for football games.
So that means you're picking the Bears over the Eagles
too as well. If I could kind of read your
tea leaves, Sean, Yeah, I am, I am, because I
(37:38):
just think that first of all, the Bears is a
team that I wouldn't want to play right because they're
the team that is gritty. They're gonna grind it out,
They're gonna wear you down, and then when you can't
go anymore is when they're big playmakers are starting to
going to go out and do their thing. You know
that defensive the Bears have. I'm not going to compare
them anything to the eighty five Bears or anything like that,
(37:59):
but in this day and age, the way they planned,
they can get after you up front. You know, Khalil
Mac We've how many times have we talked about him
this year? A thousand, five thousand times because he's he's
he's just that damn good. But for once he has
some help beside him. A Keem Hicks. No, that's just it.
That's the guy you circle. Yeah, if you watch Bears
game game film, as much as Khalil Mack gets the run,
(38:21):
you've got three or four other guys in that front
seven that that deserve a little more accolades as well.
And that's what's gonna be the turning point. That's what's
gonna be the turning point in this game. Because you
can slide, protect, throw, throw an extra guy off there,
have a guy in motion to hit him off the edge,
you know, keep a running back in and then hit
him chip him one the way out to a passing route.
But guess what, that's three people till one one of
(38:42):
these guys in the terror aliment is going to have
the game of their life. And that's what the problem
is gonna happen. Looking at Eddie Goldman uh and ro
Kuan Smith to two names, I gotta show my Chicago
fandom as we roll through Indianapolis Houston. We've talked a
lot about Andrew Luck and the job that Chris Ballard's
done re building this team defensively. Another team that found
its identity the second half of the season. Now, they
(39:05):
played a bit of a bunko schedule at times, but
they did rise up a few times and they took
care of what was at the time a hot Dallas team.
Andrew Luck buying the resurgence as you go, or does J. J.
Watt take him down? No, I'm Andrew Luck got it,
you know, period. And I watched over the last year
a year and a half of people just saying he
(39:25):
lost it, right, He's not the same guy he was hurt.
He was laying on his back, and the last time
I checked, you can't throw the ball when you land
on your back. You can't stay on the field if
you're constantly getting hit. They couldn't protect him. You know,
great quarterbacks and he has a great quarterback. They just
don't fall off because what makes them great is not
their physical part of the game. They're they're smarter there.
(39:45):
They know what's going on, they know their surroundings, so
you don't just fall off as a great quarterback. But
they found a due is that now he's the least
amount what hit was sacked eighteen sacks allowed. You can
fall them on Twitter at Sean Aerman that is at
Shawn Merriman and get all the latest lights out brand
on Twitter at lights out Brand. You can see the
(40:06):
latest on his page as well. Dude, thanks for coming in, man,
appreciate it. We'll talk soon, cool man man. Thank you. Alright, becos,
lights out. We got more NFL and more of the
big NBA game that just tipped off coming up next.

with us. Previewed all the wild card games coming up
(40:49):
this weekend. And you know, the biggest thing he had
to say, Mike, you know that really just OpEd my
eyes was Antonio Brown. When we talked about Hey, you know,
I asked him, is there any way he comes back
to the Steelers. He's got a tough contract, you know,
they might have to give him away. And his answer
was very easy. He says, there's no way he's coming back.
You don't find out about all this stuff unless it's
(41:11):
over and the guys out the door. If there were
still a way for him to come back, you would
not hear about this. Mike Tomlin wouldn't be talking about it,
The Steelers wouldn't be talking about it. All his transgressions
not showing up. When you start hearing is when it's done.
And it's done for Antonio Brown and that you know,
I haven't heard that side of from a player before, saying, hey, listen,
you know, when you're still, uh, we'll keep it up.
(41:33):
But as soon as you're not, we're turned the page
from you. Yeah, we'll let it all out and you'll
wind up looking bad as a result. Well, now that's
just it, right. He talked about airing dirty laundry and
and how much you take in a locker room before
it starts to bubble over and when it starts to
bubble over, and certainly for Antonio Brown, we've got this
litany things just from the last week, right, go into
the longer history and all the beef as we talked
(41:56):
about last night on the show. Find the podcast and
iTunes Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon on it uh
and give us five stars, will love you forever, and
Jason will come with a muskrat dinner cooked fresh for you. Well, well, well,
you can't guarantee stuff. I don't know that I could
get muskrat dinners from dom Polski's. I don't know that
I could do. I think I think you can hook
that thing up if you cared. Listen, you care about
(42:18):
your audience don't you muskrat. Muskrat dinners are kind of
a delicacy here in the Downriver area. What's it cost
what muskrat dinner go for these days? I I don't,
I don't know. I don't know. It's twenty dollars, I
don't know. Fifty dollars, I don't know. Um how it's
it's really hard to get muskrat you think so, I
don't think so. I think there's uh, it's not quite
(42:38):
the rat populations surging in Boston and other parts of
Just think about it. Like this, Look where I am
in Detroit the Mobile Geico Studios this week. I'm in
Detroit on vacation. Harmon's back in l A. We've talked
about muskrat dinners being quote popular, you know, in in
the area surrounding Detroit. It's kind of like this, you know,
living in Detroit. You know, we're living in Texas, US
(43:00):
are living in Tennessee or living in Colorado. You know,
when you get sushi, you gotta realize, boy, it's coming
from a long way away, and it's got to get
on a plane and get there. The freshness of it,
all right, you're the same thing. You know, if I can't.
I don't know if you can transport muskrats, you know,
from Detroit all the way back to Los Ange. I
don't know that I can do. I can't. I can't
(43:20):
just pack my suitcase full of muskrats and bring them
all the way back to l A. Can we start
importing from Venezuela some copy barra? I mean, we can
feed a lot of people if we go that route.
I I don't think that's the same thing. I can't now,
I can't. I think it'd be that I know I'm
saying fully you you say it's a copy bar and
(43:41):
we might be able to cut our unicast. This is
not hamburger. Rather, it's horse meat. But dontellitybody because it's
a lot. But we we should be able to set
up some traps and start to breed muskrat You you
what do you mean set up some trap? Well, how
do you set up a muskrat trap? Go? What do
you do? I don't know. I'll figure it out out.
If I thought, if I thought I could make money
(44:02):
at it, I think we'd figure this out and start
ourselves a muskrat operation. Here's a muskrat trap. It's you
West dressed in all black with with fatigues and I
and I and shoot polish all over your head with
a sack in the middle of the forest. That's that's
your muskrat. That's a winning formula. And I'm able to
walk away with enough muskrat to feed my kin. We're
(44:23):
all good, all right, I'm doing how to trap muskrats? Okay,
here we go, place a foothold trap two or three
inches deep where the muskrats slide enters the water. There
you go, okay, right, So then you set a trap
in line with the slide. Uh. So that means when
the muskrat slides into the water, that's where your trap is. Okay,
So that's I mean the Still the question is what's
(44:44):
a plate cost? What are we talking some mashed potatoes
and some vegetable on the side, A little vegetable. I
don't know. Does that go with muskrats? I don't know.
I don't know. Maybe a nice muskrat gravy. I don't know.
It's now there's a gravy. You're all over the place.
Why wouldn't there there's gonna be some drippings. Why don't
(45:08):
we make a nice gravy out of it uh and hey, hey,
rest in peace, Darryl Dragon Captain and Tinil some of
his finest work right here, muskrat Love Fox Sports Radio.
You got a jitterbug sometimes that's where the show goes. Uh.
Quick update from Golden State. Right now, the Warriors are
(45:28):
on top of Houston thirty to twenty two. Uh. Looney's
got nine to lead the Warriors so far. Meanwhile, James
Harden has ten for the Rockets, despite the fact he
has just two for seven from the floor. More importantly,
he just left the game momentarily to get his eye
looked at after he got poked fighting for a loose ball.
He went to the locker room very briefly, but has
(45:51):
come back out, back in the game and hoisting up
threes that aren't anywhere near going into the net for
the Rockets. So Hardened, good news, healthy, back in the game, Warriors,
uplow right now thirty to twenty two, hard and looking
for you at another forty point game and right now
he's on his way with ten in the first week.
He wants that m v P Trophy. He wants to
win the players Awards and Everybody's award on social media.
(46:13):
He wants to be everybody's all American is really what
it comes down to. But we're talking about Antonio Brown
and all of the the incidents of the past going
and we thought the video in the locker room, as
we talked about with Shawn Merriman, you know, that started
it all. And at the time I was like, wow,
that's odd. Can't be looked at very nicely by Mike Tomlin.
(46:33):
And then you just have a litany of things, And
as Sean pointed out, was like, we're not even talking
about Livian Bell and what's going on with him anymore
except for you Jets Jets, Jets Jets. The fact is
that you've got Antonio Brown, much like I usurped you
in this chair, and I'm the captain moment. Well no, yeah,
I mean you're gonna have to fight me for it
in the exchange on Monday. I think all I gotta
(46:55):
do is come in five minutes earlier than you do.
I can still strong arm the audited the chair. You
aint you can't move me? You kidding? I am? I
am the have you seen my quads? I am the
Zaza Petulia of of sports talk radio. You're not gonna
move me out of that chain. I will out of
the low post, I'll get lower. Uh and and I'll
(47:15):
ask you out yeah, up in your chair right now
that you couldn't get to them with a ladder. Feeling
like a big big shot, no quash about it. I
really wanted a bird's eye view of this Warriors Rockets
game here and and all of the Hall of Fame
fun that we're having with the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
(47:36):
We've got u c l A and Stanford u c
l A and their interim coach seeing how that's gonna
work out, and and getting ready for a big wild
card weekend. I'm jacked up about it, buddy. And and
you're in Detroit, you know that the well, yeah, we're
not getting ready for wild card weekend, but you are
mean because they're all adopting other teams. It's it's basket.
(47:57):
It's fully college basketball season now in the great state
of Chigan. You sure you're sure they haven't already turned
attention to the Tigers as as to Lake Glynn, Florida
and getting out there for spring training. As soon as
Ohio State hit fifty in their game against Michigan, it
turned to college basketball seams. Okay, Look, Michigan's a basketball school.
That's what it is. Look they got Final Four dreams
(48:17):
and why they were there last year then a couple
of times are a basketball school? Now alright, well you
got you gotta have something due to hang your hat on.
And I guess the way the way that Bowl game
went and all the number of guys that sat out
in it to get that conversation rolling again certainly push
things to a whole other level. So sure, find your
(48:38):
find your truth. But you know you mentioned Antonio Brown.
We got Jason Cole stopping behind a few minutes to
talk NFL with us. We'll talk Pro Football Hall of
Fame because he's a Hall of Fame voter, so we'll
find out who he's gonna possibly have getting in on
the first ballot. But you mentioned Antonio Brown and Adam
Schefter ESPN NFL Insider was on ESPN earlier today saying
(49:00):
that Pittsburgh likely is gonna have to trade Antonio Brown,
and that was what Sean Merriman told usaid, Listen, too
much stuff has happened, we're finding out about it. They're
going to have to trade him. This is the thing
we talked about it last night. You think they're not
gonna do it. They let Levian Bell sit out a year.
They have an emerging Juju Smith Schuster, and they can
easily say, you know what, Antonio, we are absolutely done
(49:21):
with your act because you can tell that the balance
of power on that team is still Mike Tomlin, Ben
Roethlisberger and it's not Antonio Brown Levian Bell. But this
is what they have to brace themselves for. Nobody's gonna
break the bank for Antonio Brown. They think, all right,
we're gonna put him out there and we're gonna get
two first round They think they're gonna try to get
an Odell Beckham type deal when they're saying, we want
(49:42):
to first and a second in this and it's gonna
be um. Yeah, not so much. Because as much as
teams like Antonio Brown, they see the problem he is,
they have no issue taking on Antonio Brown with his contract.
He's got three years left, which what do I always say,
three years for a DIVA wide receiver, Sign me up
because the first year will be great, the second year
(50:02):
there maybe a couple of problems, but it'll still be
great by the end of the third year. I got
to move on. But I've gotten two and a half
to three years of good production and I'm good, So
people will take that money. It's not over the over
the top that, oh my god, we can't make anything
on Antonio Brown. I'm okay with a contract, but teams
saw that at many times he walked away from the team.
(50:24):
Three times he walked away from the team since August,
including right before Week seventeen, a game the Steelers had
to win to stay alive to get in the playoffs.
You walk away from a team in that situation, only
can you not come back to your current team. Other
teams are gonna be, oh boy, we were We're really
not going to give up a lot of value for him.
We'll take him, but you're gonna have to give him away.
(50:47):
I mean, this is this is gonna be a case
where you looked at the Steelers gave away Santonio Homes
to the Jets a few years ago for a fifth
round pick, and his first two years of the Jets
were great. First year was awesome. There was a stretch
where I thought he was the m v P of
the whole league. He had a six or seven game
stretch that was that good. But then it got so bad.
That's s Antonio home. They kicked him out of the
huddle and he and he left the last game with
the Jets and then then he was done. So that's
(51:09):
the c Yeah, that's the kind of situation. I had
to kick him out of a team muddle the last
week in my area because they didn't want him out there.
But the first couple of years were great. So teams
will say, all right, we need a wide receiver, we
need to win games, and he will help us win games,
but giving up a lot for him, not that it's
gonna be a fifth round pick, but you have to
realize if you're the Steelers, that teams are gonna say,
(51:31):
you know what third round pick is about all we're
gonna do. And and maybe if a team could say
at a high second, like when you get to the
NFL Draft and on the you know, the the second
day of the draft and we're into the second round
and the team is trading down or a team is
sitting there, you know, at at pick number you know,
forty five or fifty two or fifty seven, and they go, hey, uh,
(51:53):
we'll take Antonio Brown right now. You want our second
round pick coming up? And the Steelers will have to say, yeah,
we gotta get rid of this guy. We have to move,
and nobody's going to give up a ton for him. Yea,
I think he might not gonna get No. I think
you might have a couple of suitors out there, because
you've got a lot of teams that have ample cap
space to absorb whatever restructured contract you end up working with.
(52:14):
But you're also Dallas gave up a number one for
a Mari Cooper. Well that was just stupid. Well but
just I mean that's that's set the bar for a
guy that we didn't know whether he could play anymore. Team.
That was stupid. But that's all it takes. Smith. It
takes one of thirty two to be in the room
and say, I like the cut of that guy's Jim.
He was a good hippo when he brought nine point
(52:35):
two million viewers de Fox. All Right, First of all,
it wasn't Antonio Brown who bought all those viewers. It
was the hippo costume that the peacock. We might find
out who the peacock is later on the night. I
don't think there's applicable to compare those two because a
(52:57):
Marie Cooper is a guy that didn't produce on the
field and you are hoping you could restart his career.
But it's a guy that could walk away. That's why
a first round pick was a bad idea. But he
did play well, and since they got him, the Cowboys
were pretty good and immediately started and they started talking
about giving him the extension immediately. But alt. But now
you look at Antonio Brown, who's even better. But this
(53:19):
is a guy who really goes out of his way
to find problems and walking away from a team. When
you realize a guy can walk away, no team is
gonna say, all right, yeah, take all our assets because
we just got the best receiver in the National Football League.
Receivers are expendable. It's why Santonio Holmes went for a
fifth rounder. It's why they're not going to get a
lot for him. Trying, They're not. You're they're gonna it's
(53:39):
gonna be just like Manny Machado and Bryce Harper are
finding out right now, boy, we're not really getting thrown
a million dollars from anybody. So okay, look what was
the White Sox offer from Manni Michido today? Closer to
two hundred million, three million. The only report we've gotten
for Bryce Harper that he's at three hundred million was
the old offer from the Nationals, which is why he
had a meeting with them a week and a half ago.
Because nobody else is offering million. You can think that's
(54:02):
gonna be the market, but in reality a team is
gonna say, yeah, take a couple of first round picks
for Antonio Brown. Nope, not happening. I'm curious to see
what the hall will be because I do think there's
one GM that'll be out there that will roll the
dice to get those two great years about Antonio Brown,
especially when you look at some of those teams with
big cap space and quarterbacks that they're either trying to
(54:24):
push to the next level or get as much out
of them and squeeze those last drops before they hit
the back end of their runs. And that GM will
be Mike mccagnet, New York, Jack Jet Yo, Twitter, out
of out of Fresco Mike, and Swollen Dome. When you're hiring,

Quick update from the NBA Golden State. Still on top
of Houston thirty nine midway through the second quarter. James
Harden with twelve points on three of nine shooting, left
the game briefly after getting poked in the eye, but
has come back to miss a lot of three. I'll
take a lot of shots for the Houston Rockets. Meanwhile,
Kevin Durant leading the way for the Warriors with eleven.
(56:11):
Will have much more on this game coming up in
a bit, But our NFL talk continues and getting set
to join us now on the hotline. No one better
to break things down with then Jason Cole. You can
fall him on Twitter. Add Jason Cole sixty two, editor
in chief at fansided dot com, longtime NFL insider, and Jason,
(56:33):
it is a pleasure to talk to you tonight. You
are a Pro Football Hall of Fame voter. On the
night that former Jet stars Ty Law, Alan Faneca, Kevin Mawai,
and Ed Reid are nominated for the Hall of Fame. Well,
I mean, you know, those guys are more JE players.
I'm deserving to get in the Hall of Fame as
(56:53):
JE players. Then Harold Baines will ever be I'll see
you in hell, Cole. You know who else I got?
I got? I got Ken Griffe Jr. Two He's on
my squad. And Jim Toe May Yeah kicking ask with
all my White Sox Hall of Fame inductees. Just to
(57:15):
be clear, Yeah, no, fat Yeah, I got him. Sure, yeah,
I got his nickname and the fat tubago you like that?
Just to be clear. Ed Reid played seven games with
the Jets in two thousand, Just just to be clear
on that. The three interceptions of Fame. Why's it got
(57:40):
to be about dennigrading the man's career, buddy, Now he's
a punch line. Alright, let's go into this here before
we get into the NFL games coming up this week.
And obviously, the Pro Football Hall of Fame classen had
three in Shrinese who were eligible for the first time.
Now the class of nineteen could have the same thing,
with Champ Bailey, edry Tony Gonzalez all leaned among the
(58:03):
fifteen modern EARI finalists. Are they all getting in those three? Yeah?
I think so. I think some people make quibble about Bailey.
I find that hard to believe because he's got the
I think he's got fifty plus interceptions and all the
All Pro and Pro Bowls, and he's clearly among the
(58:25):
one you know, at a given time, he was the
best corner in football, right, so probably a stretcher three
or four years, and for another five or six or
seven years he's one of the best three or four
So as a long and distinguished career. So I don't
think there's much of a debate, like you know, the
(58:46):
one I wonder about and this is the way down
the line when it comes to that position is where
of this because he was the greatest at his position
probably for probably three to four years. Problem is he
doesn't have the interceptions, and so I wonder if people
will hold out against him um at the end of
his clear kind of badly. But you know, Daily's got
a bed things. So I think those three guys go
(59:07):
in pretty easy. Where where's the biggest debate? Do you
think we're when we're talking about it's the offensive line.
It takes the four offensive linemen just go, you know,
like we can't figure those guys out because they're all
they're really truly equal in their own ways. But Sally
is the most talented of them that they had the
(59:28):
shortest career, right, So it's sort of the Terrell Davis
Gail Sayers thing. We're trying to figure out where he
fits in this. But he was a left tackle and
he was I mean, he's every bit as good as
Jonathan Ogden at his best. He just didn't play as
long as Ogden. So he's great. Fanica and Hutchinson are
(59:49):
essentially the same human being. Um, you know, among they're
probably one A and one B and whatever do you
want to put him in as best guards of their era?
And then Maia is you know, he he's really similar
to Mike Webster in terms of you know, great center,
(01:00:09):
maybe not the greatest center of all time. You know,
he's not Dermontic Dawson. Um, you know he's but he's
right there among you know, you're not Dwight Stevenson, but
he's on that next level down legitimately a jet getting
into the Hall of Fame, if that's how you want
(01:00:32):
to put it. Sure, when you have when you have
no history for fifty years, I guess that's what you've
got a clean to. What's stop stop? Well, okay you
mean no history or no, you can't you can't like
when he takes the whole thing on Bain's You can't
you can't hit you know, come back here and argue
(01:00:54):
that the Jets happen in real history. Since no, no,
it's we have history. Todd Pennington. What other garbage do
you want to throw out there? I mean, please stop listen. Here,
here's the Jet Jets history where you know I don't like,
(01:01:19):
uh yeah, no, it's nothing. It's it's it's terrible. I mean,
if not for that one season, you're the Detroit line.
But it does, but it happened. Okay, you can't say
it didn't happen for that one season, you're the Detroit Lions.
I love it. No, here's the Jets. Here's the Jets history.
And he's wearing a bag on his head. Here's that
he's in Detroit, Jason, Mr Cole, he's vacationing in Detroit.
(01:01:46):
Let me give you the Jets history won't take very well?
Are you? Are you going through the Ford Hall of Fame. No,
he's gonna go get some mustar. Hey, half my half
my wife's family works for GM. At least that you're
going to hit pill. Tell me that you're at least
going up to hip cell. You know, I'm gonna say this.
(01:02:08):
I was gonna give you the GM Friends and Family
discount the next time you wanted to buy a car.
Now forget it. Now that's out the window. I've been
his best friend for five years. Didn't say crap to
me about that. You got to ask me about it.
The GM friends and Friends and Family discount got a
sharp stick in the eye. Exactly. Here's the Jets history,
(01:02:32):
and I'll tell you that this man, you know, I
want people to listen to me. This is very big.
Here's the Jets, Lucas Nameth, the butt fumble, Sam Donald,
that's our history. That's all just what it is. So
we got who do history. Of course, he's the best
(01:02:54):
first round pick, we've best draft pick we've had in
fifty years. That might true. I'm trying that went out
and it's certainly better than Anthony back. Um. Hey, you
want to stick around and and preview the games with
(01:03:14):
us for a few minutes. Absolutely, I'm loving this. Of course,
Jason Cole with us. It's the high point of this
week right here on Fox Sports Radio. We'll take a
look at all the big games coming up in a minute,
but first we'll check in with what's trending with dev
cars and d C guys. The Warriors handling the Rockets
right now, sixty three to go second quarter of Clay
(01:03:36):
Thompson leads Golden State with nineteen points. James Harden, as
you mentioned, left the game briefly to have his eye
looked at, got poked in and I in the coming
down from a trying to go for a rebound, but
he appears to be fine. He's back in the game.
Kings right now with the seventies sixty two lead over
the visiting Nuggets, nine to go in the third. And
(01:03:56):
in San Antonio tonight, to Marta Rosen had his first
career triple double against his former team twenty one points,
fourteen rebounds, eleven assist as his Spurs beat the Raptors
one five, one oh seven, and Kawhi Leonard, who was
booed throughout the game by San Antonio fans, finished with
twenty one points. In college hoops news, Oregon freshman center
(01:04:16):
Bowl Bowl has a left foot injury. He'll be out
for the rest of the season. In fact, he's going
to rehab the injury and then prepare for the twenty
nineteen NBA Draft. NFL News, Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels
declined an invitation to interview for the Bengals head coaching job.
NFL media reporting that the agent for Pat Fitzgerald says
the longtime Northwestern coach is not a candidate for any
(01:04:38):
of the NFL head coaching vacancies and that he plans
to stay with the Wildcats. And in college Football News,
Texas A and M running back Trevin Williams will forego
his senior season and enter the NFL Draft. Will be
back to the Jason Smith Show in ten seconds. But

Thank you. It is the Jason Smith Show with my
best friend Mike Harmon and one of my other best friends,
(01:05:19):
Jason Cole, editor in chief at fansided dot com, longtime
NFL insider who just told us how four Jets can
make the Hall of Fame this coming year. Now, before
we get to the before we get to the games,
we had Shawn Merriman on Last Hour with us, and
we talked about Antonio Brownie really said something that that
resonated with us is that when I asked him, hey, listen,
(01:05:40):
Antonio Brown, what's going on right now? Anyway he can
go back to the Steelers, And he said, no way,
because you wouldn't hear this stuff out of the Steelers,
out of Mike Tomlin if there was a way he
was gonna stay. You get this stuff at the end.
I've know, I've seen it. I know when a player
has done, when a team decides we're not going to
protect to now, we're gonna air all your dirty laundry.
(01:06:02):
Antonio Brown is out of Pittsburgh. Do you agree? You
disagree with that? O? God, it's this one so hard.
You know. The thing that was most telling to me
and all of this was, did you Smith Schuster won
the m v P of the team? Right? Really the
(01:06:23):
number two receiver on team that has Ben Roethlisberger and
Antonio Brown the number two receiver and MVP. Right, he
just goes out and play football. Wait, but think about
that like they think about like, that's that's all your
teammates were voting on this, right, Like that's a damning
statement about both a B and that right, Like we're
(01:06:45):
tired of your act. And so I think my tendency
is to believe that there's a divorce that's coming. But
the Steelers are very conservative organization and they try to
work things out. I mean, look, they held on to
love me on that when they knew he was holding out. Um,
they didn't even really try to trade him. So, uh,
(01:07:09):
you know, maybe they'll do this, Maybe they've they've had enough. Um,
but boy, when they sunk money into a guy, um,
this might be a really really bitter one to swallow.
But you know, all of this said, I think some
other team will probably come up with a first round
pick for this kid. I mean, because he's just got
he's he's so good even at thirty one. I don't care,
(01:07:30):
like I think he's going to be one of those
guys he's good to he's thirty four, thirty five years old. Well, right,
those teams with the a lot of salary cap to
our teams in desperate need, most of them of at
least one more body in the Wide Receiving Corps. Not
that anybody couldn't use, like everybody couldn't use an Antonio Brown,
but just from a how do how do we get
(01:07:52):
our players to the next level? And wouldn't you like
to see Chucky grimacing Adam the whole time? Come on,
that'd be great God him as uh Chucky Chuckie trying
to ride herd on Antonio Brown. That would be just
that's worth a price of a season ticket. So even
if they're playing in like tim Buck two, it might
(01:08:14):
be the tim Buck two Raiders. What like, we should
have a contest of what what country is best because
everybody's talking about them going and playing in London? Um? Yeah,
so it should be England. Should it be Romania? Should
they be in Paraguay? Um? Like? What what country is
(01:08:36):
best suited to have the Raiders? Oh no, it's got
to be Bangkok. So we can take the eighties song
One Night in Bangkok and change it to Raiders in
Bangkok and then we do a whole thing on it.
That's where they have to go? Are they taking the Raiders?
Thinking about them? I just went the last two halves
spent time thinking about that, and that's what she came
up with, well, yeah, I only had two and a
(01:08:59):
half seconds. One of my listen, the mass. The mass
singers wildly and probably took all of eight seconds to
come up with you actually know you spent You said
you spent time on that, Like yeah, I said the
two and a half seconds when you were asking the question. Boy,
all right, moving along, you said you said London, Denver,
(01:09:23):
you know Corpus Christie and I came up with an
exotic location, not a country. Um okay, but I said location.
Moving on, what's the most intriguing give your four games?
Is it the resurgence of Nick Foles? Or is it
Andrew Luck in his reclamation project? And Luck? Baby? What
(01:09:43):
do you think of Luck? I'm Andrew Luck? Which one
are you? You? Knuckle ahead? Said that Andrew Luck was terrible?
Which one? Which one are you? He's overrated is what
I said? Yes, oh, really overrate this? Pal? Okay. There's
there's the hard hitting analysis we get and you can
(01:10:05):
find out Twitter say, Stanford quarterback's gone number one overall
three times. The first two guys two super bowls each,
That's right, Plunkett Elway bank it up two more super bowls.
First one coming this year, Andrew Luck in your Indianapolis colt.
Take that one. Is he paying you to say? I mean?
(01:10:28):
I mean, if you're getting paid, that's pretty cool, you know.
The no, the thing, the real, the thing that I
really want to have happen is everybody thinks that I'm
a voice. Stop all gang huh for for him? Right,
So I want to turn this into money of course. Okay, okay,
so I need I need this. You guys don't understand.
So you could do okay, he could already do the
(01:10:50):
voice of the captain. This is this is not about
the power of my you know of my will. It's
it's really about my needs. Okay, Look that's what it
really is. Now I'm here for you on that. So
you need him to keep winning so you can do
Andrew Luck. You can do fake interviews as Andrew Luck
(01:11:10):
and make money on it and say, hey, if you
want Andrew Luck, fifty bucks and you said, and you
will get a show. How many podcasts I wanted to
do as as Andrew Luck and voiceovers is Andrew Luck.
I want his voice to be recognizable around the world
so that I can be the voice him And you
could say, am I his voice double? What am I
(01:11:34):
double double? You come out and say things like, you know,
listen that this this year is all great, but rich
Code Tight needs to come in and take over this
team and be the head coach next No, no, no,
he's a don't all those Jets at the Hall of Fame. No,
you should have Charlie Winner. Should be the array of
(01:11:56):
terrible Jets coaches? Yeah over history, shouldn't we like co Tight?
Like there's there's gotta be like who else was awful? Everybody?
Cos it was so terrible? God, he was awful? Um, yeah,
there's this, there's an array of really terrible, terrible Jets coaches.
(01:12:20):
All right. So if Andrew Luck is going to the
super Bowl, so so we have that already. Andrew Luck
is going to the super Bowl. What else stands out
to you from this weekend? But I think that there
the two games, the two a f C games to
me are fascinating, right because, uh because the two you know,
(01:12:42):
because Indianapolis went in there earlier the season beat them,
and then it came down to that fourth down play.
So by all rights, they could have swept them, or
at least they're beat you know, they it should have
been one oh and one. So I think that's a
that's a really interesting matchup. And then Candy Ago going
into Baltimore two weeks after they played, because Baltimore's past
(01:13:04):
defense is so good and I want to see if
if Philip Rivers can solve it this time around. And
the other side of this is is Lamar Jackson's had
two really great games down the stretch against the Chiefs
and against Sandy against the Chargers, It's okay, you could
call him the San Diego. Everybody else here still does. Yeah,
(01:13:26):
I know that's unfortunate for them. But the Bangkok Charge, Yeah, yeah,
it's right. Yeah, Actually, you know what I was thinking
of it? What was the from the movie? It was
Peter Weller was Bucker Rubon's I Beyond the Eighth Dimension? Right?
But they wasn't it Bucker rut Bon's Eye? And wasn't
(01:13:48):
the Bangkok Something was the group? Right? Wasn't that like
the backing the backing band for buckerou Bond's Eye was all?
They were the hang on of the Hong Kong Cavaliers.
Oh that's it. Yeah there, Yeah, that's that's such a great,
(01:14:11):
great movie with John Listkaw in it and you know,
like all those characters are John something like John small
Berries and everything else with that. Yeah, that's a fantastic movie.
Now where were talking about football? Um? I know, I
think that the Chargers and I think the Chargers in
(01:14:32):
the Ravens is a fascinating game because if Baltimore wins,
John Harbab probably gets his pipe price to stay. If
Baltimore loses, Harbob becomes a trade a trade chip. Right.
If the Chargers win this game, I think that they
(01:14:53):
can you know, they're the next best team to get
to the super Bowl other than the Colts, which it
would be interesting, Um if either one of these teams
could go on you know a spree where they win
all the road games. Right, one of those two teams
has a really good chance to do that. Um and yeah,
(01:15:14):
got that just those I'm fascinated by the a f
C and how it's going to play out because I
think that the I think that all of those teams
are so equal because they've got great quarterbacks, with the
exception in Baltimore they don't have a great quarterback. But
the other five teams do have great quarterbacks. But they
all have some major weakness. When you say this team
(01:15:35):
can be taken advantage of in the right system, in
the right situation. Falm on Twitter at Jason cole sixty two.
That's at Jason col sixty two. Fans Sided dot com.
Take it easy, body, We'll talk to you next week later.
Say about here he goes, Hey, we got more and
it fell and away. Great stuff from Jason cole butt.
An update on just exactly what James Harden is doing
(01:15:59):
right now coming up next on Fox. Be sure to
catch live editions of The Jason Smith Show with Mike
Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio and the I Heart Radio lapp Fox
Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with My best Friend
Mike Harmon halftime Golden State in Houston. Golden States on
(01:16:21):
pace to score a hundred and forty. They lead the
Rockets seventy to fifty three, seventy to fifty three. Clay
Thompson's got nineteen, Curry's got thirteen Sodas Durant. Meanwhile, James
Harden trying to find another forty point game. He's got
fifteen four out of thirteen shooting as the Rockets are
(01:16:42):
just getting thumped by the Warriors again this game at halftime.
But really the story has been James Harden for the
past few games. Look, we buried the Rockets earlier this season.
They were unburied. They're buried again, They're buried, They're unburied.
But you look at Harden now, who's trying to shoot
four his fifth straight forty point game in a row.
(01:17:03):
And this is not just a guy who's scoring forty
in the stat line is forty three and two. You know,
you're talking about someone with seven six, thirteen assists and
the rebounds nine. He is playing at such a high
level right now. And to kind of compare with what
he's doing, I know this seems kind of heavy, but
you want to compare it as Michael Jordan's doing, what
(01:17:24):
Kevin Durant is doing. Is he doing what he's really
doing what Michael Jordan's did in his heyday with the Bulls,
Because what did Jordan do? Jordan raised the level of
a team with a lot of role players, and that's
really what the Rockets have. Jordan had Scottie Pippen. There's
nobody on the Rockets even close to Scotty Pippen. You
have some good players on their Capella is pretty good.
Goring is pretty good, but you don't have guys that are,
(01:17:45):
you know, top fifty all time NBA guys. But the
way he's doing it is one night he'll go for
thirty five another night. You know what. This is where
I gotta dish the ball a bit and it's fifteen
or sixteen assists. It's whatever the game needs. And when
I need to go on a one and carry my
team because we're not playing well, well, that's not gonna
score forty points in a row. It's really what Jordan
(01:18:06):
used to do when you could say what Kobe used
to but Kobe never became the facilitator. Kobe was never
someone who would say, I'll sacrifice this game for thirteen
or fifteen assists. Harden is really doing what Jordan did
with the Bulls in the nineties, averaging almost eight assists
per game over the month of December. Leading into tonight's game,
He's got five uh to go along with his fifteen points.
(01:18:26):
As you said, turnover rates a bit daunting at times
when you're looking at a five point three per game
during this process, but averaging thirty six points a night
and just filling up the stat line, Uh, shooting percentage
is gonna be down as you as you roll with that,
but you'll look at the statue filled up and after
a lot of criticism, right because the first month of
(01:18:48):
the season, they were the laughing stock. They were everybody pointing,
and certainly he took that to heart. In the way
this team has been constructed, it's on him, and so
you know he's taking the onus upon himself to try
to bring them back. We'll see how much that hurt
when we get to March in April. But at least
for the moment, it's given some good stats, some good basketball,
(01:19:11):
and we know he's gonna put up thirty thirty shots
before this night's over. Yeah, of course, and because that's
what that's what it's going to cost him. This is
what they need to do for the to win. Here. Hey,
we're stumbling a little bit now. I'm gonna score a
lot some games. It's gonna be where I need to
get my teammates involved. This is gonna be a game
he's gonna have to shoot the lights out and still
might not be enough. But hey, you know, you can't
(01:19:31):
win every game and you're playing with the worst team
than you had with Michael Jordan's. Clearly that's where you're at.
But this is a situation for James Harden ware you
are seeing him. We thought you saw him hit a
level where Okay, I didn't think he can get to
this level, but he's got that level and surpassed it.
I mean, and that's really something you complaining about him
gettinghim the free throw line the way he does all
(01:19:52):
you want, but he's hit that lower Okay, boy, he's
now a you know, twenty eight and and and twelve guy, No,
he can be a thirty five and fifteen, which we
never thought he could do. Nobody each court like James
harden on a regular basis. He's certainly highly entertaining. And
I don't know that he's really been compared to Michael Jordan's,
so you've really gone into a new territory there. But
(01:20:13):
certainly the way his game rounds out and what he
needs to do finding the complimentary players is the second
half gets underway, we'll see if they can cut into
this seventeen point deficit. Uh and he's gonna come out
shooting as you would expect, So fun times for us
as we watched the second half, we'll see if there's
any fights along the way to twitter at how about
(01:20:33):
a fresca? Mike gets swollen down The Jason Smith Show
with Mike Harmon coming up next. One quarterback with zero
pressure on him this weekend. I hate that song Fox
Forest Radio. Welcome inside the Jason Smith Show with my
best friend Mike Carmen from the Geico Studios where fifteen
(01:20:54):
minutes can save you fift more in car and shirt's
more info visit Geiko dot com. Right now, eight fifty
to go on the third quarter, James Harden and the
Rockets have cut the Warriors lead to eleven. Oh they've
just now cut it to eight, eight to seventy two.
Time out on the court. Steve Kerr wants to talk
(01:21:17):
it over. James Harden now sits at twenty points four
out of eleven from three point range as the Rockets
making this a game. They've outscored the Warriors nineteen to
ten since the third quarter started. We got more on
this game and more in the Big Game earlier tonight
of San Antonio wins the Kawuhi Leonard Game over Toronto.
(01:21:38):
Oh seven, Kawhi Leonard booed all night and DeMar DeRozan
responds with his first career triple double. Hey take that,
Toronto said, I couldn't lead you anywhere. So we got
more on those games coming up later on this hour.
But of course we have time now for Mike Harmon's cast.
Of course we have time. Well, I I just wanted
(01:22:00):
to make sure you were paying attention. I didn't know,
sitting in my seat back in l A as I'm
in Detroit, if you were really just paying attention to
what I was saying. No, generally I do when I'm
talking and you start composing a tweet and I can
say nine or ten things and you just stare at
me glassy eyed because you've just been perfecting your tweeting
that you then look at me and be like, what
(01:22:22):
did you just say? So I I was doing that
a little bit, wanting to see if you'd h you know,
start tapping out the microphone saying are you alive or
are you dead? Cops got him or they don't. But
having a little bit of fun channeling my inner you
while crafting a tweet about the third hour of the show.
I'm sorry, what did you say? Exactly? Look when you're
(01:22:45):
talking and saying something sometimes I tweeted out because I
want people to know what we're saying. We're doing this
show on the everyone people to respond on social media
as well. And how about a fresca at Swollen Dome
working on that at how on a fresca tweet run
while while I'm speaking? It's good. Listen, It's like if
(01:23:06):
I had a court reporter here, only you're not quoting me.
You're phrasing yourself. Listen when I'm tweeting stuff that we're talking.
It's not like I'm I'm I'm saying, hey, Harmon's talking.
If you want to ask me advice on the best
movie of the year, tell me right now. I have
I have a few I have a few seconds. I
have seen you tweet that out a few times while
I've been talking. If you ever make it bird Box,
(01:23:30):
most underrated movie of the eighties was The Man with
One Red Shoe. Next question, I mean, I'm not doing done.
That would be a good bit. Uh, don't do the
bird Box challenge. That's all I know. I haven't had
a chance to watch. Oh my god, Well here's the thing.
Without giving a spoiler alert, The bird Box was a
phenomenal book. I mean it was absolutely The guy that
wrote the book was like a traveling musician for like
(01:23:52):
twenty five years. He um he was like a traveling band,
Like he would play his band would play festivals and
and and state fairs and stuff. And while he was
on the road he wrote like twelve or fifteen books.
Never tried to publish him. And then when he got
done with his rock and roll career was done, he's like,
all right, I want to look into publishing my books.
And he got his books to an agent and bird
(01:24:12):
Box was one and it went out. It was incredibly
good in this movie is doing gang buches right now
on Netflix. Between this and The Christmas Chronicles, I think
Netflix is is like the most valuable company in the world,
even more than Amazon right now. Yeah, they're on a roll.
They're trying to figure out the U the way the
whole Awards season goes. Now that the you've got these
disruptors entering the fray, it's it's gonna be a fun
(01:24:35):
season and certainly from a business perspective, interesting to watch
how shakes out. Well, I'll tell you this, first of all,
it's gonna be a tremendously difficult Awards season because I
know I say this a lot, but man, there was
nothing when I look at last year ago, what could
win Best Picture. I mean there was. I mean, look,
I think A Quiet Place and Infinity War we're probably
the two best movies I saw last year. Run. Oh
(01:24:58):
of course, yeah, he's gonna win and Lady Got God
is gonna win because they have to, because if you don't,
it's gonna be this huge uh gross. Um. I can't
believe we did this to them and didn't give them
awards because they were so good in this movie. Yeah,
of course they're gonna win. But it's really it's hard.
It's a hard year. It's a hard year to go. Yeah,
this was the best movie I saw, really A Quiet
Place in Infinity War, we're probably the two best movies
(01:25:19):
that There are a couple of movies though, that are
perfect for us to bring back the always favorite Mystery
Science Theater three thousand, Like Jason and might go to
movies then do any of those one minute clips to
uh to break off and go through, especially now that
we have bigger TVs. Well, it's such a great detail.
And don't do the bird box challenges trying to do
(01:25:41):
everyday tasks while blindfolded. So don't don't do that. That's
what the bird box challenges. I did see a guy
do some long snapping. It did not end well. Well
lo long snapping, all right? I mean, like, you know,
don't try to drive a car. You know that you
should be behind bars and never let go. That's the
bird box challenge. I mean, I want to see Rob.
(01:26:02):
I want to see Rob Gronkowski doing a don't do
the bird box challenge. I want to see a commercial
room with that. Is that next to the tide pod challenge? Yeah? Yeah,
yeah right. He just he's like the spokesman for not
doing that. If I don't do it, you shouldn't do it.
That's how it works. Eight seven, seven ninety nine on
Fox Twitter at how about a Fresca Mike gets swollen
(01:26:24):
Dome The Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon.
So we'll have more on Houston and Golden State coming
up in a bit. But one thing, I really I
fail to see how this is a storyline coming into
this week in the NFL. Is you know I watched
a lot of the TV shows the last couple of days,
and and and all the breakdowns and all the experts
(01:26:46):
talking about the four games this weekend, and sure a
lot of attention being spent on the Seahawks and the Cowboys.
They both still stink, But I just wanted to get
that out there, of course. But you know, I saw
today so many people. Great Costell I saw think was
on the herd today and he talked about how, look,
this game is such a big deal for Dak Prescott
because he needs to play big to prove he can
(01:27:07):
be the quarterback of the future for the Dallas Cowboys.
And really it's Dak Prescott, and I want to sit
back and go, are people watching the same NFL that
I am? Because there's no pressure on Dak Prescott. There's none.
Jerry Jones has already said, Dak Prescott's my guy. We're
gonna extend Dak right, it doesn't He's gonna give him
(01:27:29):
the maximum amount he could give. It's gonna screw up
the rest of the NFL because Dak Prescott has just
been okay the last couple of years. But Jerry Jones
wants to pat himself on the back and go, see,
we draft a guy who's great, so I'm gonna give
him all kinds of money When I can because I
want to show you how right I am, which is
kind of how it works in Jerry Jones world. But
he's already said he loves Dak Prescott. This is a
(01:27:49):
season where there was an unexpected division title for the
Cowboys when the season looked lost final game of the season,
Dak Prescott has such a huge game against the Giants.
He throws for nearly four yards, four touchdowns, has his
best quarterback rating of the year. This is happening. Dak
Prescott could throw five picks against the Seahawks and they
(01:28:10):
could lose thirty eight nothing, and it doesn't matter. Dak
Prescott is going to be the guy. He's gonna get
a huge, rich contract. He's gonna be Dallas's quarterback from
the next five to seven years. We're gonna be talking
about Dak. There's there's one thing that you can think
is gonna be something. I don't mean to single out
Great co Selby. I just mentioned that because he was
on talking about pressure on Dak Prescott. I just don't
see it. I don't see how there's pressure on him
(01:28:32):
to to win, to win games, and it's not something
that that really when you when you look back and say,
all right, what is this gonna mean? If Dak Prescott
has a bad game, he's still gonna get the same
kind of money. Well, that's just it. It's the extension
of how Jerry Jones is operated with Jason Garrett all
these years. Right, he's played with house money forever, and
then finally it looked like the heat was finally coming.
(01:28:53):
And then they make the deal. They bring in a
Marii Cooper and lo and behold, the offense perks up. Defensively,
they're playing great. Uh and Vanderish, their first round pick,
has himself a fantastic year, becomes a household name, selling
a lot of jerseys. Everybody gets excited. Defense, running game,
getting it done. Dak Prescott with a couple of big games,
and don't forget he also got shut out by the
(01:29:16):
Colts uh and their zone defense UH in down the
stretch as well. There's certainly some of those in the offing.
But but you're right with with Jerry Jones, if you're
his guy, he's already all in and you've already given
up all your leverage. Yeah, no, we're gonna extend him.
We're good. So what's the going rate? All right? We
gotta go there and Amari Cooper, as we talked about
(01:29:37):
a little bit earlier, he was there, what a week,
two weeks? Yeah, we gotta get that contract and start
looking at what are you talking about? He could go
right back into the tank from whence he came, not
that he's in the cesspool that has been the Oakland
Raiders organization these last couple of years in terms of
decision making an evaluation that not, which they did pretty
(01:29:58):
well at those number four picks. So we're all Cooper
had a couple of good years for them before disappearing. Calole, Max,
Kalo Mac. But when when you look at the Cowboys,
they've already decided, all right, that's our guy, and you
know he's gonna get a deal because look, when we're
talking about twenty nineteen and trying to find quarterbacks and
enough of them to fit the open slots, there's no
(01:30:20):
guys Dak Prescott gets elevated by default. Yeah. Look, and
that's the situation in the National Football League right now,
is that it's not that four or five great quarterbacks
come into the league every year. You have a situation
where last year you had three or four great prospects
let's say three of them turned out to be good,
and certainly right now it looks like Mayfield and Donald
(01:30:41):
and Josh Allen are all gonna be very good. They
all had moments of sustained success this year. Now, this
year doesn't look like there's quarterbacks coming in. You know,
maybe we're gonna inflate Haskins into being a great quarterback.
Really it was Herbert and everybody else, but he decided
to go back to our Oregon for his final year.
So now there's not as any quarterbacks out there, So
it's gonna be another year for a team to get
(01:31:03):
their franchise quarterbacks. So are you're gonna see a lot
of musical chairs this year. Joe Flacca will go someplace else.
We told you last night. I'm predicting Derek Carr traded
to the Giants. You'll see other players someplace else. So
teams are gonna have to realize, all right, what are
we gonna do with our quarterback? And the Cowboys are
gonna say, well, are we gonna do better than Dak
long term? Yeah? Sure? But what this is one of
(01:31:24):
those times where what I say and what you say
doesn't really matter, because Dak Prescott's getting that extension. Jerry
Jones loves him. I mean I I don't see where
there's any circumstance where, oh, boy, Dak Prescott has a
bad game this week, right, and and suddenly it's about,
you know what, We're gonna move on at some point. No,
Dak's gonna get five years, and he's gonna get a
(01:31:45):
hundred and fifty million dollars. Ever, Jerry Jones wants to
give him probably thirty million a year, gonna guarantee all
of it, so you can say, hey, look at my guy.
I love him. That's just how it's gonna go. While
you look at the quarterbacks salaries, obviously you have the
bloated Jimmy Garoppolo con track. We've certainly talked enough about
that over the past year in terms of what that
(01:32:05):
that did aid to the market place. But be to
all the people that were patting everybody on the back
in San Francisco for draft day halls or whatever the
hell else they wanted to do, probably want to revisit
that one a little bit. But you look at what
seven eight guys with salaries of at least twenty four
million dollars right now, you get down to Russell Wilson
(01:32:28):
at eight. Roethlisberger are too, I mean at a minimum,
that's what you're looking at for Dak Prescott right top
ten money if not more like when everybody was losing
their minds over the contract and just bring it back
to you know, mediocrity at its finest was when Mike
Glennon got his three years forty five million, which ended
(01:32:50):
up being one year what eighteen or they're about before
he was released and then signed a deal down in Tampa.
The the fact of the matter was, that's the market rate, right,
It's it's not hey, let's play hey a guy seven
million dollars and hope it works out. Yeah, you get
rookie deals and you've got the final years of guys
(01:33:10):
like Tannehill, Winston, Mariota and company. And you overachieve early
on with when's golf Rabinsky and company. But they're the
they're coming do right that, the collectors coming, the agent's
coming to get the big deal in short order. That's
the price of playing poker. Case, Keenum got fifteen million,
(01:33:30):
Taylor at sixteen million, and everybody grapes like, what do
you think you're paying? The most important position of the game,
especially when all the offensive numbers are records setting across
the league for points and plays and yards and everything else.
That's just the way it goes. And for Dak Prescott,
don't know that he's that guy, but Jerry Jones certainly
(01:33:51):
has already decided that big blank novelty check is coming.
And if he doesn't do it, there's gonna be four
or five other people sitting up there ready to do
it because they don't want brock Oswiler or any of
the other retreads that are gonna be out on the market.
Eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox Twitter at how
about a fresco Mike and Swollen Dome The Jason Smith
Show with my best friend sitting very high in a
(01:34:14):
chair Mike Harmon. Coming up next, we'll give you our
first lock of the week in the National Football League playoffs.
I'm surprised I'm gonna pick this game, but I'm gonna
do it because I don't see there being anyway one
team loses this weekend. We got that coming up next
right here Fox Sports Radio for a car landing on
(01:34:35):
a roof to a car landing in the pool, We've
covered it. Talk to farmers. We know a thing or two.
Because we've seen a thing or two. We are farmers
under written my Farmers truck Fire Insurance Exchanges and Affiliates
products unavailable in every state. Be sure to catch live
editions of The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays
at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific Fox Sports Radio.
(01:34:57):
It is The Jason Smith Show with my best friend
Mike Harmen live from the Geico Studios. We'll have more
on the Kawhi Leonard revenge game coming up in a
few minutes. But right now, end of the third quarter,
the Rockets not going quietly. They have cut the Warriors
lead to two by scoring thirty nine in the third quarter.
(01:35:22):
James Harden now at eight with eleven assists as the
Warriors now trying to hold on. You have Steph Curry
with six having a big night for the Warriors, but
James Harden, looking for his fifth straight forty point game,
just needs a twelve point quarter to do it. Will
keep you updated on that again, more on the other
big game coming up in a few minutes. But with
(01:35:43):
the games coming up this weekend, wild Card weekend here
in the National Football League, this is where you hear
Mike Harmon say, I celebrate all two fifty six. Then
we did playoffs and all that stuff. That's where I
said it. You just came in. That's why I said it.
Come on in if you will. It's two greatness. And
it wasn't all great. There was some uh real doozy's
(01:36:04):
in there. I mean, your entirety of your season, no
question about it. But uh yeah. The the fact is
that where we're now into the tournament as we're now
calling it. I knew the players always did, but now
it's become an over urging thought here as everybody works
towards the ship, it's not it's not a ship. It's
(01:36:27):
it's you know, it's not a ship unless it's not
working towards playing a ship. You tell me one NFL
player they they called the tournament. You tell me one
player that has said, yeah, we're gonna win a ship. Nobody,
not one person. We can get that to happen, just
like keep on keeping on. No, No, I can make
that happen, But nobody's calling it a ship. I bet
you we could. If there's some marketing and merchandizing opportunities
(01:36:51):
for the whole pirate community. Mike Leach will be our
our spokesmen, were ready to go. How is there there's
a pirate community I don't know about. There could be
marketing and I you know, have you never looked at
all of these pirate gatherings. I mean, you go to
Renaissance fairs and crap. You don't think there's the equal
number of people walking around wanting to be pirates, talking
about scurvy and drinking mead. You know, pirates. Steve on
(01:37:14):
our team talking about pirates. I've gone to renaissance fairs before.
I don't see there being a big marketing opportunity for
ships at it. I've seen there's marketing opportunities for sashes
and for bandanas and swords, but it's there's about How
about Pirate Invasion Long Beach. Pirate Invasion Long Reach the
(01:37:36):
largest pirate mermaid festival in California, featuring the top pirates
from around the country. There are top pirates. There's a
ranking of pirates. Really, there's a ranking. That's that's what
I got to figure out. Now, Now I got I
got to the now and Jack sparrows the pope and
(01:38:00):
everybody bows to a captain Jack. Uh yeah, Number one,
Corey Dickerson, number two, Starling Marte number three, Steve. This
is the end of June in Long Beach, and there's
pirates and there's something called Mutiny Magazine. There's a whole thing, man,
thousands of costume pirates. No, no, no, the top pirates.
(01:38:26):
So there's a ranking system. I want to know, can
we get one of our guys on? I mean, how
do we can we get Gil Brandt or someone to
break down the top pirates? I don't I don't know
how that mayox evaluating for the raiders. H yeah, No,
I like that. He's just a pirate. That's the guy is.
And here's a brewmaster's pirate beer festival. I mean, do
(01:38:49):
you have to swash buckle better than others? I mean,
I don't know, is there a I don't know. Maybe
you need to dress with more flair, Maybe maybe you
have more toboon. I don't know. If be able to
do the Captain Morgan and pose. Yeah, well everybody's got
to do that one. But you got a bad hip
or a bad knee. It could be a problem, you know.
And now I found a thing that's our maybe the
(01:39:09):
best pirate festivals in North America. Well, of course it's
an R. What's the pirate's favorite letter? A pirate? A pirate,
A pirate says are I'm going back to the old backyardigans.
We can go to Tampa Bay, we can go to
uh St. Augustine, we can go to like Charles, I
mean where we could go anywhere and get a pirate
(01:39:29):
festival going on. You know, you know, you know what
the most disturbing thing is that you about that statement
where you wrote you wrote top pirates from around the
country to attend, right, Okay, so that's fine, So yeah,
we went through the whole but saying that that, that's
part of what the the advertisement is tells me there's
a large portion of people in the country that would
go to this because the top pirates from around the
(01:39:53):
country are going. Not only that they know who they are. Oh,
the top pirate pirate, Steve is gonna go. It's like
comic coney on on the big stage. We're gonna have
a big display from these pirates of pick City here.
What do you got, frost work? How do pirates know
there are pirates? How they think therefore they are way
(01:40:18):
to go a tie shirt? Why don't pirates shower before
they walk the plank. Why is that? Because they'll just
wash up on shore later. This is the pirate jokes
portion of the show. Hey, Harmon, do you know what?
(01:40:40):
Do you know any good pirate jokes? No? I don't, Well,
neither do I. He is struggling. I don't think a
great pirate legs, eight arms and eight eyes? What's that?
Eight pirates? Ladies and gentlemen, Welcome to the chuckle hunt.
(01:41:06):
Why is it being a pirate so addictive? Why? They say,
once you lose your first hand, you get hooked. Alrighty,
Then what do you call a pirate with two eyes
and two legs? A rookie? A rookie, you're looking at
the same thing, freshman. No, he's just really up on
(01:41:29):
his pirate jokes until they passed the time on those
charter flights for the Chargers by telling pirate jokes. Really,
I could see Philip Rivers doing that. All right, guys,
let's get together and tell our favorite pirate jokes on
the plane ride back. I can see him doing that. Well,
Frostberg has now got a dozen of him to tell
all his kids. Well, pirates say shooting, dang, that's true. Yes,
(01:41:51):
I bet. But does Philip Rivers have any pirate audibles?
Can you make that happen for this weekend? If he did,
I wouldn't tell you. I mean no, no, no, not
what they mean, just to make an audible, a pirate
audible cricket. He's just cackling like a madman on the
other side of the last. I guess I'd like to
(01:42:13):
see that. I'd like to see now. I hopefully a
quarterback will listen to the show and do that and
have a pirate audible eat some ws hey you. Speaking
of pirates, we got Kawhi Leonard the latest on him
coming up next. The Kawhi leon revenge game went sideways
(01:42:35):
very early, but first we find out what's trending from
alas with everything trending, it's deb Carson. How much did
the pirate pay for his piercings? How much a buccaneer?
(01:42:56):
And there you go. Way to go in a handbasket.
Warriors and Rockets look to be a blowout early on,
but the Rockets have rallied, scored thirty nine, and the
third quarter they now trailed by just five guys. Warriors
up one oh eight one oh three over the Rockets
(01:43:18):
eight to go in the fourth quarter, it is over
in Sacramento. The Nuggets, with a one win over the
King's earlier tonight Spurs, beat up the Raptors one oh seven.
Kawhi Leonard booed throughout the game by San Antonio fans
finished with twenty one, while Demart Rosen, with his first
career triple double, did it against his former team one points,
(01:43:40):
fourteen rebounds, eleven assists and the win for San Antonio.
NFL announced a partnership with Caesar's Entertainment, the league's first
ever casino sponsor, which reportedly is a three year deal
thirty million bucks a year in that sponsor ship deal,
and the candidates for the Pro Football Hall of Fame
Class of twenty nine teen has been whittled down to
(01:44:01):
fifteen finals. Among them three first year eligibles, tied in
Tony Gonzalez, safety Ed Read and cornerback Champ Bailey, and
the others receiver Isaac Bruce, running back Edgerin James, safety's
John Lynch and Steve Atwater, cornerback Ty Law, lineman, Tony Baselli,
Steve Hutchinson, Kevin Mawai, Alan Fanica defensive end and tackle
(01:44:21):
Richard Seymour, a couple of coaches, Tom Flores and Don Corriel,
and contributors owner Pat Bowland and Gil Brandt. The senior finalists.
By the way, Johnny Robinson, We'll be back to the
Jason Smith Show in ten seconds. But first a word
from farmers. From a hotter balloon landing on a car
to a load of concrete falling on one, we've covered it.
Talk to farmers. We know a thing or two because
(01:44:43):
we've seen a thing or two. We are farmers under
written my Farmers truck Fire Insurance Exchange cent affiliates products
unavailable in every state. Jason, Mike, back to you, Deb.
Do you know what the ten letters of the pirate
alphabet are? What I? I are and the seven seas.
(01:45:07):
I can't believe we got top pirates from around the
country coming soon to a town near you. Thanks funch, Deb,
we'll talk to you later. Stay away from scurvy in
the update studio. Alright, then, maybe, oh I really I
still can't get over top pirates in the country To
(01:45:29):
attend I made a leech joking there. It is Number one.
That'll be a podcast, No, that'll be a show on
Fox Sports one. Number two's a companion to the mass
singer on Fox number three, stop playing that number four?
(01:46:00):
Who all right gather? Kawhi Leonard relentlessly booed tonight as
the Spurs absolutely thumped the Raptors. Uh. There were probably
pirates at the Riverwalk in San Antonio probably after now
I thought, I didn't think about that. Uh. DeMar DeRozan
(01:46:23):
gets his first career triple double against his former team,
and Kawuai Leonards returned to San Antonio. Was exactly what
you thought it was gonna be. He was booed relentlessly
from the time he was introduced in a video along
with former teammate Danny Green, who went to the Raptors
in the trade for DeMar Derozen. It was a night
(01:46:43):
where every San Antonio Spurs fan got out there hatred
their emotions after Kawai Leonard, who was once one of
the most loved members of the franchise deciety, didn't want
to be a Spur anymore. Never really gave a reason
for him being upset. We knew he was at odds
with Gregg Popovich over the handling of his injury, but
(01:47:04):
most of it was done behind closed doors. Kawhi Leonard
goes to the Raptors in the first game back tonight,
well was filled with moments like this. Here's Kawhi Letter
at the free throw line. It sounds like he's shooting
free throws in a hundred thousand seeds stadium filled with Pirates.
The chance of Trader coming down on Kawhi Leonard as
(01:47:26):
he heads to the free throw line. You can't even
hear what the fans are channing Raptors Radio Network with
the play by play, They're channing Trader. When they showed
Danny Green on the highlight reels, everybody cheered. When they
(01:47:48):
showed Kawhi Leonard, everybody booed. Every time Kawhi Leonard touched
the ball, they bowed. It was awesome. This is why
I love the NBA, because nobody does theater like the
NBA does. This was out and out, Hey Tride, It
was a show. It was awesome. Now, kau I did
have twenty one points, but this game was never close
because the Spurs came out right away filled with emotion.
(01:48:08):
They went at one oh seven. Rator's head coach Nick
Nurse said, I don't think we handled this one very well.
In a bit of an understatement. So the Kawhi lettered
revenge game Ho ho ho is its way to the
Spurs for a victory. T j oh, I was waiting
for the next line to come. So I don't think
(01:48:30):
that was the closing t j I was waiting for
the yo. I was waiting for that now. Yeah, yeah,
I mean I'm not gonna do it seven years in
San Antonio, the last of which was the nine game curiosity.
I think it's the kind way to put it where
everybody got a little uneasy and and problems. Uh In
(01:48:52):
in the media really took it because I Leonard wasn't
saying a whole lot. And then when he goes to
Toronto and his averaging a seven three a game, by
far a career high, already had five season in otherwise
it never averaged more than twenty one point two points
per game. So like seeing him at his best eight
(01:49:14):
point to rebounds per game, a career high, averages six
point three rebounds per game for his career, including this
year's stats. So you look at that, Yeah, you're gonna
lustily boo him for walking away and causing a turnover
in your organization. Right, everything that you've had for for
(01:49:35):
this tremendous run of two decades, suddenly unrest, much like
we've talked about with the Steelers locker room normally quiet.
Yeah there's some big bend scuttle, but but normally you
shrug it off, say that's him well, And then everybody
else got a little bit out of sorts. Between Levian
Bell and Antonio Brown. You look at the New England Patriots,
and all of a sudden you've got twelve anonymous people
(01:49:58):
talking out of turn of how my, which everybody hates
each other. There normally a buttoned up organization, and then
you have the Spurs, all the quiet superstars, all the
winning Greg Popovich is the colorful character, but the other
guys are just parts of a machine. And suddenly it
becomes about unrest and where Kawhi Leonard is and why
he is in in a suit down on the on
(01:50:19):
the sideline and on the bench with them, and all
that plays into what became a very tumultuous time, so
into the year of chaos for teams that had normally
been pretty buttoned up, and tonight the fans got their
revenge with their trader comments, not the usual defense chant
(01:50:42):
or overrated chant that you would normally get not exactly
what you'd expect heading to the free throw line, you know.
And the thing is for Kawhi Leonard is coming into
this game, there was such a big emphasis on, here's
Kawhi Leonard back in San Antonio. It's the most high
profile game he's played. And look at what he's doing
with the Toronto Raptors hasn't near the top of the
(01:51:03):
Eastern Conference. There were a half game back in the
top spot coming into tonight, and then you know, they
got boat race. But they're playing at an even higher
level than they did last year without him. And there's
so much talk on, hey, here's what the Raptors are
doing to sell Kauai Leonard to stay with Toronto and
stay here after this year. He's got an opt out
in his deal. And I feel like that's the absolute
(01:51:25):
wrong thing to be focused on right now. If Kauai
Leonard likes it in Toronto, he'll stay. If he doesn't
and really wants to go to Los Angeles to play
for the Clippers or to play with Lebron James, whatever
he wants to go, he's gonna go. Are you treating
him right? Yeah, you treat him right. And and and
the raptors are if you win, he'll want to stay
(01:51:47):
because it's harder to leave a team that wins a lot.
It's really hard because that's really what you want. You
want to win, you get to the NBA Finals, it's
hard to say, yeah, you know what, I'm leaving. But
the bottom line is that as long as he's enjoying
his experience, you're taking care of him. Focus on winning.
You got him for this year, this year, knowing full
well after this year is completely up in the air.
(01:52:10):
Focus on winning. Enjoy this ride that will sell Kawaide
Leonard on potentially staying, and remember this part of it.
Stars now aren't always gonna go for well, here's seven
years and eighty million dollars, and that's what I'm going for.
We've seen over the past couple of years the true
stars of the game want to keep their options open.
They want to keep hitting free agency so they can
(01:52:32):
make more money. It's what Kevin Durant is doing, It's
what Lebron James did for a while. You're seeing it
all over there, Chris Paul did it, and NBA stars
now want to say, Okay, I want to make as
much money as I can, and I want to be
able to keep my options open if I want to
get out of a situation. So the possibility could be
for Kawhi Leonard after this year. It's a you know what,
(01:52:53):
I don't know the Lakers have their act together yet,
or I don't know if the Clippers is really where
I want to be. So yeah, I'll do one more
year here in Toronto. Just concentrate on winning and everything
else will take care of itself. Because the bottom line is,
if the guy doesn't want to stay, he's not gonna stay.
It's not gonna be a case where you're at a
high school party and you're convincing your best friend stay
another half hour for you gonna drive us home made,
(01:53:14):
come on, just stay, just stay, just stay, come on,
come on, come alright, fine, to give me peer pressure.
This is a little bit bigger than that, Alright. If
the guy wants to go, he's gonna go. Just give
him a good experience. He'll stay. Stars two and one,
three and two deals. The salary cap keeps going up.
Reminder that when you look at the contracts of the Raptors,
Lowry and Ibaka both have one year left on their deal.
(01:53:37):
And you look at short deals for the other stars.
You've got seven guys averaging at least nine point five
points per game. Pretty good situation to keep yourself in.
And remember stars also want to sync up with other
superstars and see if they can't go and create some
magic with their buddies. So you've got that element working
as well. We've got a little bit of Greg Popovich,
(01:53:57):
I believe talking about little bit Kawhi Letard, sorry, talking
about the game tonight against Gregg pop vichen the Spurs.
Let's hear Kauai. This is him after the game. I
feel good, I mean, except for losing a game. Let
it walked off the court healthy. We got some things
to come in and look at at the team to
get better at it. But at the passive past, and
I'm still playing, you know what I mean. I really
(01:54:20):
don't reflect what what happened, probably until our retire, but
I'm keep moving and trying to get better at what
we're doing here. Well, I really didn't think it was
gonna be Kawhi Leonard. You know we have a voice,
is gonna be Will Ferrell? I thought it was. I
don't really think it's gonna be. We got you know
he's minding the clock. You don't know for sure that
was Kawhi Leonard. Oh, there it is. It was actually
(01:54:41):
Antonio Brown. Pirate. We'll have more NBA coming up at
the top of the hour. Houston and Golden State neck
and neck down the stretch, but straight ahead because we
got on the pirate thing. We'll give you our first
lock of the week. NFL playoff pick coming up next
(01:55:01):
on Fox. From a hot air balloon landing on a
car to a load of concrete falling on one, we've
covered it. Talk to farmers. We know a thing or
two because we've seen a thing or two. We are farmers.
Under written my Farmer's Truck, fire insurance exchanges and affiliates
products unavailable in every state. Number five. Be sure to
catch live editions of The Jason Smith Show with Mike
(01:55:24):
Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio and the I Heart Radio app Fox
Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with My bass friend
Mike Harmon coming up in ten minutes. We'll break down
all the drama as Golden State in Houston coming down
to the wire. One seventeen one thirteen, Golden State with
(01:55:46):
the lead just under two minutes left to go, James
Harden trying to shoot the rockets back into this one.
Gotten close again. We'll have more on this game coming
up in about ten minutes, but we talked about it
earlier this hour, and then we got on a whole
pirate thing, so we got away from it, which is
our fault. But you know, I think the pirates thinking,
happy New Year. We're back in the chairs, and what
(01:56:08):
else would you expect? Number one Now, first, this is
the thirty second commercial. Gonna throw some numbers at you,
but stay with me, and just fifteen minutes you can
say fifteen percent of more in car insurance. This company
but offering great rates, great service over seventy five years,
and anytime you need help you can speak to one
of their train specialist. Seven. The company is Geico. Go
(01:56:29):
to Geico dot com today. Sorry for the numbers, and
five four three to one. I am out of time.
Our first lock of the week when it comes to
the NFL playoffs is coming your way higher right now.
I'm sorry, it just kind of happened to me. Just
keeps going. Number two. I'd like I'd love to see
(01:56:49):
the Nick Foles comeback Tour continue and you got a
clean bill of health today, ribs are okay. He's ready
to go for the Eagles. I know it's magical, it's mystical,
the magic carpet ride, but I don't know how that
happens this week against the Bears. Chicago's defense is just
too good. They're playing at home, and Philadelphia does not
have enough weapons. Their defense is gonna stifle Nick falls
(01:57:12):
and look, it's got to end at some point, and
this it's gonna be one of those games that gradually
just gets away from the Eagles. A game that six nothing,
six three thirteen, three thirteen, six, sixteen six twenty three six.
That's just how it's gonna go. Because I don't see
there being anyway that the Bears can lose this game
(01:57:34):
short of Mitchell Drabinsky having a four turnover day. But look,
Matt Naggi is not gonna let that happen. There. If
Mitchell Robinsky is not having a big day and they
don't like what he's doing early, they will grind it
out against him because I can't see the Eagles scoring
a ton of points on the road in this game.
The Bears win this game, it is the first lock
of the week, and I'm making you very happy, Mi Carmon.
(01:57:56):
There's no question about you look at it over under
not expect acting a big scoring fast The Philadelphia defense
front seven playing well, but you can still get after uh.
The cornerbacks and yes they're healthier than they were when
we were talking about them mid season for fantasy purposes
and writing them off altogether were many, but they get
(01:58:16):
their opportunity and fight back and and get into the
playoffs led by Nick Foles, who's pushing the ball down
field more frequently than Carson Wentz did. So that's one
of the things to look at here in this matchup.
If you can get the time. He has been having
great success with al Sean Jeffrey these last couple of
weeks down field and and getting Darren Sprawls back. Gives
(01:58:36):
a different element to the run game because when you
look at Eddie Goldman, you look at Roe Kwan Smith,
all these guys that are have been really good uh
in the run game. Obviously we talked Akeem Hicks is
an unsung hero of it all, and all those guys
you know are in the shadow of Khalil Mac that
it's gonna be tough. You're gonna look at it down
(01:58:57):
and distance. Nick Foles probably set up for a lot
of third longs if this plays to script and for
the Bears on the other side, sure you may not
get the push from Howard early, but if they're consistent
and they stayed true to what their identity is, it's
to grind him a bit and then give some you know,
exotic looks to get Cohen free down feel a wheel
(01:59:19):
router too, maybe you get a little more Taylor Gabriel
Allen Robinson should be back. He missed the week seventeen game.
So you have your offense, uh that should be able
to take shots and down field against Philly. They also
want to bring the pressure, so Trabinsky has got to
get rid of the ball quickly. But you know he's
willing to tuck it and run as well. So I
think that's an element of the Bears offense that can't
(01:59:41):
be understated. The big question all this is if it
comes down to Cody Parkey, You're gonna have a riot
in Chicago, you know, I think about this might be
the biggest If Nick Foles pulls this off, this would
be the biggest accomplishment he's had, because it's clearly the
best defense he has faced in this short term as
being Philadelphia Eagle savior going to the end of last
(02:00:03):
year into this year. Clearly, if he does it against
the Bears, it's gonna be what can't this guy do
when he's just thrust into action at the last minute.
Where this gets fun, though, is when you talk about
Wentz and him and Nate Sudfeld for next year as
folds expendable or is he the guy twitter at? How
about a Fresca Mike at Swollen Dome coming up next?
(02:00:23):
How does James Harden still have a shot at a
forty point night the second slide over Baby hour of
the new year? Oh, you did it, and we'll be
rocking along right with you for the next Yes we will.
A couple of quick updates. LaVar Ball doing a hell
(02:00:43):
of a job coaching u c l A tonight. Maybe
it was Steve Alfred, as you mean, what do you mean?
Maybe it's Murray Bartow Ladies and gentlemen. Uh no, no,
it's actually LaVar Ball. It's not Murray, but no LaVar calling.
(02:01:03):
He was calling the plays that there's nobody really named
Murray Bartow. It's a guy that Lavara Ball is hired
to be the coach in his stead. I've never seen
I've never seen Murray without an a mu r r y.
He planted him on the staff to be the to
be his sleeper coach. So when Steve Alfred gets fired,
(02:01:25):
Murray Bartow is the coach. But really it's whatever LaVar
Ball wants. Stay in your lane, U c l A.
Watching the clock tick to zero. They have finished a
ninety two seventy thumping. Hey all, it takes the longest
road begins with that first step. Buddy, that's it. You
(02:01:47):
gotta start somewhere. All these New Year's resolutions, people trying
to lose some ass, maybe find some the fact of
the matter is that you have to go, wait a minute,
wait a minute, it's a pretty good. That was good.
I'm that was radio gold. That's Marconi worthy right there,
t J. We're losing it and we're finding it at
(02:02:09):
the same That is right. It's that you need to
have that first step on a treadmill. If you're gonna
go to weight loss, you need to walk into that
bar room and get that liquid courage up. Maybe you don't,
maybe you need to go up and say some karaoke.
Maybe you just need to slide up to the bar. Hey,
what game are we watching? Maybe we're watching a little
bit of overtime between the Warriors and Rockets. Maybe that
(02:02:31):
you're in. I don't know. Maybe you can go and
you can curse Austin Rivers. I well, I can't. I
can't get past what you just said. I don't know
that I can. The topics might all be there. I mean,
if you try to lose some ass uh Moses Brown
having a huge night for U c l A. So
now we know who may wind up being the beneficiary
(02:02:52):
if stev Aalford being out he was seventeen and ten
for LaVar Ball tonight. As U c l A gets
a much need would win over Stanford. It's like, you
know what's funny, It's kind of like justin Frostburg talking
about Jeff Fisher's interview with the Jets over the last
twenty four hours tomorrow that you keep saying it, people
(02:03:15):
are gonna go, WHOA, how about that LaVar Ball on
the sideline? I don't know. I guard Murray Bartow is
like a surrogate. He's got an earpiece in his ear
LaVar Ball is watching the game from either Chino Hills
or Ohio, and he is simply calling in the plays
what he wants them to run. Yes, somehow they're working
(02:03:40):
the excellence of execution. Before we get to this Houston
Golden State game, which is in overtime, Do you want
the two best Pirate jokes of the Nights the night from? Yes,
right here. If you miss it, I'm sorry, you gotta
listen earlier. Listen to the podcast coming up in an
hour from now. Number one. Both of these jokes from U. C.
(02:04:04):
L A Dodger Frank of course, here you go. Who's
a fun? Who's a who is a pirates favorite athlete
of all time? Who? Um? I don't know? John David Booty,
Oh nice, I like it? Who say pirates favorite sports
(02:04:25):
talk radio hosts? Oh, that's gotta be our guy. You
heard him playing? Yeah, you heard him in for Ben Mallory.
You hear him, hear him every Sunday night with Arnie
Spanier on the John David Booty goes in perfect with
my earlier comment people trying to lose some ass or
maybe hey, guys, who's the most famous pirate of all time? No?
(02:04:49):
Come on stop. Uh Dave Parker the coach? No, Willie Starge?
Oh maybe all right? Who is it? Justin? Are you
guys ruined this one? I'm out of here. Natalie ruined it?
How'd you go to baseball? I was talking about real pirates? Oh?
Real pirates? Oh okay, I go ahead, go ahead, ask again.
(02:05:12):
Who's the most famous pirate of all time? Oh? Roberto Colemente.
There you go. You're right he probably is. No, I
think that worked pretty well right there. You gotta stop
playing that tight shirt you have. It's gonna be in
my head. Boy, I'm getting on raining online at Disneyland
(02:05:38):
exactly go to a karaoke? Do you want to say? Uh?
You know what? I gotta be honest. The Pirates of
the Caribbean is a fun ride. What do you want
to cool off? Like, if it's too hot, you want
to ride that? Okay? I just want to sit and
do nothing for like fifteen minutes. That's the ride. That's
that's the best. Yeah, it's inside, it's here. It's like
(02:05:59):
it's a small world, and Pirates of the Caribbean best
rides at Disney because you just stay really cool and
just do nothing for like ten or fifteen minutes and
you recharge. There you have it. Disney is the right home.
So glad to be done right now. In overtime, James
(02:06:22):
Harden now has his fifth straight forty point night. Just
hit a free throw to tie the game at one,
thirty two apiece thirty three seconds left in overtime. Warriors
and the Rockets hardened now forty one, fifteen assists and
ten rebounds. Not having a big night tonight from the floor,
(02:06:45):
just twelve out of thirty one. Very Alan iverson like night,
but still his fifth straight forty point game. Meanwhile, for
the Warriors, well, nobody's surprised. Steph Curry's got thirty three.
Clay and Kevin Durant both have twenty six apiece, So
the Warriors will have the ball coming out of the
time out as they lead the as they look to
go up on the Rockets here with thirty three seconds
(02:07:08):
left in overtime. There's only four players in the past
fifty seasons of the NBA to score forty points in
five straight game. Remember Kobe Bryant had that big run
a few years ago. We got to what like nine, right,
Kobe got to like nine or ten forty games in
a row. Yeah, that was while he was going to
Colorado and back. It was a weird time, like for
(02:07:28):
the whole Eagle Colorado stuff. Ai did it, Uh, Jordan
did it. And and now hard with another with another
free throw here to get to forty one points. Uh,
this is what Harden has done. Warriors now lead Houston
one thirty four, one thirty two. As Steph Curry's just
(02:07:48):
hit a shot to give the Warriors the lead. It
looks like it's gonna be the last possession for the Warrior,
for the Rockets and James Harden, uh doing everything he
can and I think he's just turned it over her
Hardon turned it over. They call it time out. Oh,
they call it time out. Looked like there was gonna
be a turnover time out here? What five point five
seconds left? So curiosities here as we get into the replays,
(02:08:13):
guys falling all over themselves and into the crowd. Yeah.
I think on one play they got a bit of
a break because Durant looked like he was out of
bounds saving a ball that went for a basket. So
the two review, those guys are gonna be excoriated. Yeah,
he was definitely out of bounds when he saved that ball,
and James Harden is like, hey, what's going on? Hey,
if you can get away with that taking three steps
(02:08:34):
out of bounds, good for you. So I can't wait
to hear him in the post game, right, Oh, I mean, look,
I don't know how you don't look at that and say, oh,
that's out of bount You gotta go okay, Well, the
referees were too too busy star watching. I mean Durant,
Durant is taking four steps out of bounds and then
touches the basketball. I mean really, he took four steps
(02:08:56):
out of bounds along the baseline and then didn't even
get up off the ground. You'd get a penalty in
the NFL for non participation, right. It's like on a
special team's play when you run out of bounds for
five or six steps, even though you havends gonna kind
of look like there is he gonna come back on
the court. He throws the hat down to go, oh
(02:09:17):
the referee through a hat. Oh my god, I don't
believe it exactly. Participation is the connection? Had that happened
last weekend? Couple of refs through their hats in the
game's one of the great signs. Between that and the
safety Uh, safety dances are two of the best things
you can have in a football game. Hey, guys, in
the history of out of bounce, that was probably the
most out of bounce on any play every Yeah, that
(02:09:38):
was pretty good. I mean that made any guy running
out of the back of the end zone look, i'd
oh my god, James Harden, Oh my god. One second
left on the clock. James Harden has just buried a
three to give the Rockets a one thirty five, one
(02:10:00):
thirty four lead. This was incredible. They had to trouble
getting the ball in hard and dribbled into two guys.
Draymond Green was one of them. He tried to draw
the foul. Uh didn't get like he did that time
that They've got the chalk outline of him on the court. Yeah,
he kicks out to Draymond Green. Draymond Green falls to
(02:10:23):
try to draw the foul, and Harden still makes the
shot to give them a one point lead. You know,
that's the one thing that we failed to talk about
James Harden enough on is that we focus on. Look
at all the flopping he does to draw fouls, right,
and and do I like that? No, because of the
way he continues to sell the call and that's really
not the way you know the game shout man. But
(02:10:47):
here's the thing is that the number of times he
will do that all the time, and the fact that
he still makes as many shots as he does despite
the fact he falls down trying to draw the foul,
that's amazing. I mean usually when when you if you
do this, your ideas, I'm gonna get this shot up
and then in my follow through I'm gonna fall down.
How many guys can pull that off and and have
(02:11:08):
the shot go You're gonna miss. You're gonna miss that
shot all the time. And he can still make enough
of those threes he's ten for twenty three tonight to
make that play happen. That's just it. A guy doesn't
lose confidence, keeps going up, knows he's got to carry
this team to victory. You look at it's him and
Capella have been your two scores tonight. Decent efforts from
(02:11:29):
Rivers and Green and and House Junior. But it's really
the how do you you're just carrying this team along?
Looking at forty four points fifteen assists, ten boards, on
the night doing the little forearms shiver to get himself
some space each and every time. Not full extension. I
want to know what kind of exercise he's doing for that.
Just a little bit of a lift kind of thing
(02:11:51):
as you go. That would be a twelve ounce curl
certainly could help. Would you like the shorter or the tall?
You gotta go tall if you want to build up
those muscles. Uh, good advice as you roll through. As
the Rockets come away with a win, a lot of
bodies on the it was like a bowling shot there.
Hey we got the seven ten split. When he and
Draymond Green going to the court, Kevin Durant misses a
(02:12:14):
desperation three at the buzzer. So the Rockets come out
with a one thirty five th four win. What a game,
probably the game of the year in the NBA so far.
We'll break it all down coming up next, and way
do we tell you just what James Harden is doing
and who he's doing it like? That's coming up next,
(02:12:34):
hard and another forty point game, forty four fifteen, as
says ten rebounds Rockets when an absolute thriller, one four
We're talking at next on Fox from a hotter balloon

(02:13:20):
the NBA. James Harden makes a big time contested three
with one second left in overtime, part of a forty
four point night for him, and the Rockets beat the
Warriors one thirty four. Another forty point night for Hard
in his fifth in a row, forty four, fifteen assists
(02:13:42):
and ten rebounds. You'll hear how it sounded coming up
in a couple of minutes. But I want to talk
about before we get into James Harden is what he
what he's doing for the Rockets. This is just another
insane performance by him. This final play, You're gonna see
something that was straight out of w W eight. The
final play. You have the Warriors protecting a two point lead.
(02:14:04):
James Harden who gets a little bit of a a
a little bit of a partial call that goes his
way as they were able to call a time out
when he was going to turn the ball over inbounding
the ball from the wing, and this play was set up.
Of course, James Harden is gonna take this shot. P J.
Tucker absolutely clean's house w W E style. While the
(02:14:29):
Rockets are trying to inbound the ball, he runs and
he pushes Clay Thompson away from James Harden so he
can catch the ball. He then takes another couple of
steps and pushes Draymond Green about three feetback. Then he
pushes Clay Thompson again a couple of feet away so
Harden can get a couple of dribbles up to make
that three. I mean he pushes two players three different
(02:14:52):
times to make room for James Harden. Harden makes the
shot and there's no call on the defensive end that
I'm watching that going. That is just absolute genius basketball,
and no whistle, no whis litt all any of it.
The beauty of its smith is that it's playoff basketball.
In early January, Darryl Morey on Twitter one minute ago
(02:15:13):
just put up the Sandra Bullock blind bird box photo
with the blindfold on, uh to describe what he thought
of all of the the actions, Just like, what the hell,
what the what am I seeing? Well, I'm blindfolded, I'm
seeing nothing. But they as you describe it, there's bodies
flailing everywhere. And it's fantastic that the referees swallowed the
(02:15:34):
whistle and just let it go. And now they probably
still need to go back and look at how they
missed Kevin Durant sprinting out of bounds on the possession earlier.
But for the Rockets, a monstrous win in a big spot. Right,
everybody's starting to turn their attention a little bit to
these big time games on T n T. As we
(02:15:55):
get out of the regular season, all two fifty six
of my babies are gone. They grew up and left me.
Uh So, now we're back into NBA mode and college
bowl season. We only have one left to play for
it all. So now we pay attention fully to the
NBA and we got we gotta thriller Tonight and James
Harden on everybody's lips as we get deep into the night.
(02:16:17):
I mean, I'm watching this play again as they keep
showing it on t N. Tacher is he runs into
Clay Thompson and stops him once. Then he pushed his
Draymond Green. He pushes Clay tops it again and and
Harden is able to get that shot off. That that's
I mean, look, I keep saying insane, but that's really
what it's been. Harden has been that good, that untouchable.
(02:16:38):
But boy, when you get a guy clear in space
for you like that, even I could make threes, No
you're not, but you're you're You're still not getting that shot.
Somebody's somebody's coming in swatting your ask you know, no, no, no, no, no,
I'll get that shot off unless unless you got a
blocker like me going out and checking guys. Well, that's
like you would you would be the guy. You would
be the guy, you know, you know, just knocking people out.
(02:17:00):
It's like a battle royal when you know, I'll call
you hit one guy on the head and then another
guy on the head, and did another guy on the head.
I mean, that was that's pretty much what p J.
Tucker did. Crazy, Yeah, it was. It was really pinball,
Like I'll see if I can get a tweet that
has that at swoll and oh Man, how about Afreska?
Just the the madness of those final seconds of bodies
(02:17:21):
flying everywhere. Uh. And the bird box challenge Chris Paul.
So we're doing the bird box challenge during NBA games
now too. Uh. And that's uh, people adding their superbos
pictures of referee uniforms onto sand ball like now as well?
How perfect is that? But as far as James Harden
goes again, this is now is fifth straight game with
(02:17:43):
forty points. Just five guys in NBA historist fifty years
have done it. We talked about that a few minutes ago.
But if you want to talk about what James Harden
is doing right now, forget about Lebron and and and
forget about Kobe Bryant. James Harden is doing for the
Rockets what Michael Jordan's did for the Bulls in the nineties.
(02:18:04):
I mean that sounds why it was good. Trust me.
James Harden is doing what Michael Jordan's did when the
Bulls were in their heyday. Jordan's did everything that was
needed to win a game on any given night. Now,
I don't mean he tried harder than anybody else, But
if it was a night where Michael needed to go
for forty, that's what he did. If he had to
(02:18:24):
go for forty five games in a row because that's
what his team needed, that's what he did. If it
was a night where hey, I gotta find my teammates
and dish out fifteen or seventeen assists, that's what Michael
Jordan did, and he lifted a cast of role players
two incredible heights. Now, he did have another top fifty
player of all time in Scottie Pippen. James Harden doesn't
(02:18:44):
nearly have that on this team, but this is what
Harden is doing. Lebron James wasn't scoring forty points a
night five nights in a row. Not that he couldn't
do it, but he was someone who always with, Okay,
what do I need to do to win this game?
Sometimes to score forty, sometimes it's the US. But he
never scored forty a game like this. Kobe Bryant could
score forty a game anytime he wanted. He's not dishing
(02:19:06):
out fifteen assists. He's not passing the ball fifteen times.
It's just not happening. So what Harden is doing is
really a combination of that. And that's what Jordan's did
to lift the Bulls in the nineties. You would see
how many times did Jordan win games in the playoffs
with great passes instead of a great shot. I remember
the Horrorce Grant shot to win a big game in
the finals, and I remember the big pass um that
(02:19:29):
he made to Bill Wennington to win a playoff game
against against the Knicks. He made these plays and he
did this regularly, and it was so frustrating that, Ah,
he can make those passes, he can do that. That's
what James Harden is doing right setting up Kerb Paxson
for three go all the way down the line. There
were so many moments of that ILK as you go
through and think about, you know what he's doing right now.
(02:19:51):
Chris Paul hasn't played, uh since the December where he
went twelve minutes one of three from the field before
leaving a narrow law US against Miami. So just picking
this team up on his back. And as we we
always love to watch big players and big moments and
right now, you know with Harden and these numbers, certainly
(02:20:13):
I popping. And it's all the secondary categories as you
mentioned Jesson, because we know he could score. And tonight
twenty three three point shots. They put up fifty four
three point shots as a team tonight. How about that.
You gotta love that fifty four their nine shots from
beyond the arc, and they shoot UH from from three
(02:20:36):
point range from the line. The Warriors, by contrast, fourteen
of thirty seven from three and only fifteen free throw
attempts UH in this game and the fortuitous Kevin Durant,
I'm running out of bounds for a while and I
can still get an assist. The Jason Smith Show with

Exchange cent affiliates, a products unavailable in every state. Jason, Mike,
back to you. Thank you, Depp James Harden's night has
really cemented a couple of things. Again, Harden, with this
fifth straight forty point game, hits the game winning three
with one second left in overtime. Can you say about
(02:24:01):
the guy right now? He's really good in January? That's
what I can say about him. Right It's a forty
point triple double for him. No, that's fantastic, and I'll
celebrate it, and then I'll say, let me see you
at the end of May. Well, let me see in
the middle of June. First, Now, this is great, and
I'll take the storyline Smith, I love you, hater hater,
(02:24:23):
hater hater. What's the flavor of your hater age? If
you have your heart, let it out, come on, bring it.
Look two things about James Harden. Number one is that
the fact that he still hits new levels with his game.
I mean, nobody saw this coming. Look, he made that
(02:24:45):
jump three years ago to being somebody, Hey, the guy's
a good score. But now suddenly, hey, he not only
has become a really good score, but now look at
what he does setting up plays increases his assists by
four per game. James Harden hit a level we didn't
think you could get to now at twenty nine, he
has hit a level above that where I didn't think
there was a level for James Harden above what he
(02:25:06):
did three years ago. Hey, he's gonna be a twenty
nine eleven and eight. Guys, Now he's you know, thirty three,
ten and six. I mean, I I can't say. I
don't want to say he doesn't have another level, because
he might. But I didn't think he'd get from that
one three years ago to where he is right now.
But here he is. No. You look at the numbers,
just amazing the last since seen averaging twenty nine points
(02:25:30):
a game or better. Scoring average is increased well every
year of his career as you roll through even that
slight one tenth of a point per game, increase from sis,
the rebounding totals, getting it done night in, night out,
it's just you. You celebrate it now, right And I
(02:25:52):
mentioned Chris Paul currently being out, so maybe this is
his injury part for the season where he misses time.
But it's with this team. As much as I want
to be entertained, as much as I am, we we
have this debate all the time. With the greatness of
Russell Westbrook during the regular season. I got my elbows
up and I'm sitting there like a whistfuls, like tell
(02:26:14):
me a story, grandpa of Hey, let me see you
in the playoffs and see this roll through from more
than a series. Wow, look at you, Wow, look at you.
Just I'm talking about history and I'm saying, I've seen
this act. I've seen this show. He's got five straight
forty point games, only seen it by four of the
guys in the last fift that's fantastic. Hey, hey, hey, hey,
(02:26:36):
hey hey, he's January three. Well, hey, all right, you
want you want something for the regular season? Mr Hayter
was all hot takery and nineteen you want something, Bill Hayter,
I let's go. You want something, Josh Hayter, I got
something for you. Yeah, let's bring it, bring the pain
and bring the heat. Uh. James Harden just won another
(02:26:56):
m v P tonight. Okay, James Harden, just one another
m v P tonight. Look, they give that out in
June and he's hanging out drinking wine. I understand. I
understand this. James Harden is having a season where he
(02:27:17):
has jumped to the forefront and is no one's gonna
look back that's many times. An m v P in
the NBA is someone who gets your attention November, December, January.
They maintain that level of play, and that's who your
m v P is. Harden scoring five more points per
game than Anthony Davis, who is just floundering now with
(02:27:39):
New Orleans. As long as James Harden keeps the Rockets
in playoff contention, as long as he keeps him in
a playoff spot, he's gonna win the m v P.
Much like Russell Westbrook when he did it all by himself.
Because right now, James Harden is doing this for the
Rockets all by himself, and he had this is his
m v P moment, his m v P moment tonight,
hitting this shot. He's got that. You want to run
(02:28:00):
up and down and say, oh, Kawhi Leonard is great, Yeah,
that's great. But James Harden is giving you the highlights,
He's giving you the sustained play. He's doing it all
by himself. Everybody else has a great supporting cast. Kawhi
Leonards got Kyle Lowry. He missed the game tonight, but
he's been really, really good. Lebron James, He's got to
lift the Lakers past the middle of the pack in
the Western Conference. He's gonna be considered for m v P.
(02:28:22):
You can't say, oh, here he is finishing fourth or fifth.
You can say that for James Harden, because again, Harden
is doing it all by himself. This is what's happening.
Anthony Davis having a phenomenal season. But when you're barely
gonna make the playoffs, if you are, can you really
be the m v P. Harden is gonna win the
m v P. And this was his m v P moment.
Look at you, January three, you've handed out hardware. We
(02:28:43):
can't even figure out who's winning awards, and we're not
doing pole radio about who should win awards in the
National Football League and all that. Look, the avns haven't
even come out yet, right understand, Crossberg is keeping a
keen eye in between that on that to see who
the latest and greatest are. Maybe who's gonna win Rookie
(02:29:04):
of the Year I don't know, uh, And who's who's
the best team player. I mean, there's a lot of
different categories. Who's the best pirates Number one big budget
a VN category, best pirate Film. I don't know whoa whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
(02:29:26):
How about that? Sometimes in the NBA it's how does
a guy finish when he finished it? But it's got
you have to finish historically, and Russell Westbrook finishing historically
was a way to do it. James Harden is now
out clearly in front of everybody, and people know what
he's doing is so especial because there's nobody else. I
(02:29:49):
mean that, Mike, we told you this team didn't get
better in the offseason, it just got older. That's what
happened to Houston. Houston is now staying alive in the
playoff and in the standings in the Western Conference solely
because of what James Harden is doing. And we're living
in the now and he's cooking with gas. There's no
question about it. Three a night, right he and he
(02:30:11):
is is this really gonna stop? Can have a regular right?
So that's gonna be fantastic. But it's not like, how
do we judge guys in the end? How's he gonna
fall up? But you were talking about m v P
right now, you can have it. He's given the award.
That's great. It's him and Janice h and a bunch
of guys, and eventually Lebron will get back to playing basket.
(02:30:32):
Don't forget Immanuel Moodier. He's gonna be that, there's no
question about it. And Chris stops Porzingiz will put on
his warm up suit at some point. Maybe we'll celebrate
that while we're at it, if that's where you want
to go. But you're gonna say, the second best player
on the Rockets right now is Clint Cappela. I mean,
that's your That's okay, alright, well, I remember, remember he
(02:30:53):
he was he was the it guy. Everybody loved Clint Capella.
But let's realize it's Clint Capella, all Austin. He's yea,
all right, he's played four games on well he almost
wrecked the game in the final throws as well. But
you know, certainly the the other great story that flows
out of this is well, Golden State and fourteen and
(02:31:16):
everybody's looking around going six and four in their last ten.
There's problems, problems other board. Once again, there's the end
of your problems. Yeah, for the for the Warriors, this
is just a natural progression of, well, what happens when
you go to the finals every year for the past
twenty five years. You get to a point you're like, okay, alright, yeah,
(02:31:37):
we're not motivated yet. It's alright, it's go. It's all
the first world problems. You haven't even three out of
four NBA finals. Look, the whole Western Conference is that way.
You're talking about a four game difference from eight to second.
We're right back to where we were a year ago.
We're almost halfway through the season and you're talking about
what one team going on a four game winning streak
(02:31:59):
and they can go from A the third. That's where
that's where you're at in the West. Well, and that's it.
And you know what's funny, though, is the number of
graphics I've seen in the last twenty four hours in
either on Twitter other social media, the broadcast, everybody heralding
the return of Boogie Cousins. Love when you take the
recipe and you add a little bit of crazy to
(02:32:20):
the mix. Can't wait to see how that. Now it's
gonna be Boogie's gotta come back and save the season. Book,
He's gonna come back and save our season. Now, that's
gonna be so awesome. All that well, hey, you know what,
the Warriors need a challenge, maybe this will be their challenge.
There you have it, Twitter at how about a frescut
Mike ats Swollen, don't phone number eight seven seven nine nine.
On Fox, James Harden just won the MVP if he could.
(02:32:43):
If I thought he would taper off at any point,
I would say, all right, maybe not. But you know
this is who he's gonna be, because this is just
who he is. We got more on this game and
more from the NFL. Will make a big pick for
you for this weekend coming up next Fox. From a
dog ext deadly flooding a living room to a dog
taking a joy ride, we've covered it. Talk to farmers.
(02:33:04):
We know a thing or two because we've seen a
thing or two. We are farmers under written my Farmers
truck fire insurance, exchanges and affiliates, products unavailable in every state.
Fox Sports Radio, It's the James Harden Show. Alongside me,
my best friend, James Harden. How about that. I'll take
that moniker. I'm all about you know, I'm a giver
(02:33:25):
like him to his teammates, giving them a lot of credit.
Walking back to the locker room. Was it about him
other about him? No, he had a great night. James
nol look at all my teammates. That's the kind of guy.
I am sitting here in the big chair from the
mobile get Ghost Studios as I'm in Detroit. Mike Harmon
in Los Angeles for the next couple of nights and
finishing up vacation. Uh, Mike in l A. Still we
(02:33:49):
are just buzzing over James Harden's forty point triple double.
Only four players in the last fifty years that five
straight forty point games hardened Kobe Bryan, Allen Iverson, Michael
Jordan's that's your list. This is where James Harden is
at right now. When shopping for car insurance, consider this.
(02:34:09):
Geico has been saving people money on car insurance over
seventy five years. So if you're serious about savings, it's
simple go to Geico dot com. After seventy five years,
they know how to save you money. The only thing
that's gaining as much traction is James Harden coming off
this game is the fact that, as you mentioned a
few minutes ago, Rockets gym Darryl Murray tweeting out the
(02:34:30):
bird box meme of Sandra Bullock with her blindfold on
after referees completely miss a call on Kevin Durant in
the final couple of minutes. And now on inside the
NBA postgame show, Shack and I think a production assistant
are trying to do the bird box challenge where they
tried to get him from the stage around to get
back to where he's supposed to be sitting, and he
(02:34:53):
just picked up the guy and threw him with a
blindfold on. Well, come on in if you will. Oh
my god, Jaquille O'Neil back to listen. The bird box
challenge is not a toy. It's not something you should do.
It's very dangerous to try to do every day tests
or certain crazy things with a blindfold on. Well, you're
a seven footman literally throwing people. Well, and at one
(02:35:16):
point they like fell into something like that guy could
get hurt and Sue, is that now a new new
kind of sport we can invent? Though? What do you mean?
We're in America. There's a lot of lawsuits, all right,
But but the idea that we go and we throw
things with blindfolds on, Oh okay, we gotta be ax
(02:35:39):
throwing and stuff is kind of a big deal. No,
what if that's what it was? What if it was
blindfolds on and we throw axes. People have to be
able to point you in the right direction. No, no, no, no, no,
here's what it is. You have everybody, No, here's where
it's a different Like I'm not going for blood sport here.
No no no. Instead of somebody standing up against the
wall and the person with a blindfold throwing acts, here's
(02:36:00):
what it is. We get a bunch of people to
go to stand that wasn't doing magic tricks. He's saying. No. No,
here's what it is. A bunch of people stand in
a circle and a guy or a woman within axes
in the middle, and you just spin them around a
lot and when they stop spending, they throw the axe
whatever direction it goes, where it goes at somebody. Okay,
I like this, all right. I think there might be
a subgenre of film out there on the dark web
(02:36:23):
and take care of these kind of things. Oh, I
don't mean, I don't mean a real note. I mean
just you know, like a fake one. I'm not saying no, no, no,
I just need like a fake will make it look
like like the magic of movies, is what I'm saying.
Oh sure, I mean we are in Hollywood, like you
can make a movie that you know, megaplex of you know,
they shoot some movies in Detroit, no question, a lot
(02:36:44):
of filming incentives anytime they want to. We want a
gritty locale, We're shooting in Detroit. We're gonna go downtown. No. No,
I mean like you could make a you could make
a movie off of bird Box called, like you know,
the bird Box Challenge movie and it's about where crazy
things happen like this, and we just have one narrative
we weave all the way from the beginning. It's got
(02:37:05):
to be post apocalyptic because you know that that's what sells,
and that's all the way to the end, and that's
what it is, you know what I mean. Like No,
I mean like in a movie you have you know,
you have people throwing obviously not hurting people, that's ridiculous,
but you'd have it where it would, you know, kind
of look real because it's a movie. I like the
way you think. See I'm trying to come to get
that going. Yeah, I mean, if bird Box can do
those Gangbusters business for Netflix, we could have the bird
(02:37:27):
Box Challenge movie and that could do that could do
pretty well. Gotta have spinoffs, so now you've had a
few minutes to sit back and think, do you are
you really that anti James Harden winning the m v
P tonight like no, no, I eat well winning it tonight.
Hey man, there's a lot of scene tonight. There's a
lot of night that's and it's a hot take that
I've seen uh other people borrow. But that's amazing how
(02:37:50):
that was stolen so fast for me, that was Look.
I'm glad folks are listening. Uh you and your producers
wherever you are, I hug you all. Thank you and
everybody else out there listening. Welcome back from holiday. Maybe
you're finishing up strong, maybe you're out at a watering hole,
you're heading home. We thank you for being. You could

plan to not be the twenty fifth ranked pirate. Maybe
