(00:00):
Double l here one O two fiveKnix with our all time favorite Kenny Chesney,
Keny Chesney. We're in a radiostation right now. I know it
feels it feels really good. It'sbeen a minute since I've been here,
so thanks for having me. It'sso cool. So you just decided to
stay an extra day and make upa show. What was in your mind
last night when that first huge thunderstruck? Yeah, it's when that happens,

(00:23):
it's really you know, it's difficult, you know, and like we
our whole main thing is we wantto do shows where it's safe for everyone.
Yeah, you know, so whenthat happens, you know, it's
like, okay, we were supposedto go on an eight forty five,
and then it's okay, we're goingto push on nine thirty. And then
next thing, you knew it wasnine forty five because it just kept lightning
everywhere. And then I knew itwhen until it got to ten fifteen that

(00:48):
it was possible that we were goingto have to move it. And so
I hate that we had to causepeople, you know, not everybody can
come back tonight, you know that'sthe problem, and but I uh,
we just want our buy to besafe, and that's that's always our first
priority, if you will. Andso, I mean, making music is
what we do. And I wishwe'd made the weather. Yeah, right,

(01:11):
A nature gets in here that holdmy beer ketty Jesney hasn't been in
the valley since twenty eighteen, andmore nature comes in with different plans like
that is so crazy. And itwas amazing because I wasn't back there with
you at that moment, but Icould picture you, like that's why you
were waiting and waiting thinking is thiscell moving over? Can I do this?
Can we do this? Yeah,we're watching, you know. I've

(01:33):
got all my people, you know, in communication with all the weather people
you know here and we're watching it. And it just wasn't going to stop
for a while. Yeah, youknow. So I hate it. And
I just wanted to come to dayto say I'm sorry to a lot of
people that can't come back, andsorry to the people that are actually coming
to not even if it's inconvenient, and because I know people have busy lives,

(01:53):
you know, but we're going togo on tonight at seven. Megan
played last night. She had anotherthing to do tonight, so he's not
going to be with us, butit's just going to be in the evening
with Kenny Chesney. And so it'slike I've never done that in Phoenix.
So it's gonna be a much differentshow tonight, you know, which is
great. So we're gonna play alot of songs we probably wouldn't have played
last night, and so yeah,I'm excited about it. So if you're

(02:15):
trying to like scramble for that lastminute babysitter, can Chessie as you're telling
you like it's worth it, askthe parents in law to please show up
again fortnight two. I was talkingto you backstage last night. It's really
cool to beat a concert with songsthat you love. But there's another level
when you're at a concert full ofa career of songs that you love and
you have built that thirty six numberone songs, thirty six number one songs

(02:38):
would take care to think about, you know, when you first start,
you know, me and Scott overhere, Scott Michaels has been here for
every one of those songs, youknow, and Scott and I've done this
together in a lot of ways. And you know, when when you're in
the middle of doing what you doevery day, you don't think about those
numbers, you know, you justyou go in and you try to cut
the record the best songs you canwrite, the best song as you can,

(03:00):
and wished them up the chart.Well, in the meantime, you're
busy doing you know, your careerand your life and stuff. And so
when you say that kind of thing, it's that's I don't believe none of
us in this room would have believedthat thirty six number ones when I released
my first single. You know, you don't dream of that stuff, you
know, really, And when Iwas a kid in college, I didn't,

(03:22):
of course, didn't dream up anyof this. I just wanted to
go on the road one year.I've got like four guys out with me
on the road now that I wentto high school with and was college roommates
with. Okay, and they werehere when this dream started, and I
said, man, I just wantI just wish we could go get on
the bus just one year and playthe places that our heroes played, and

(03:44):
then I would feel great about that. Yeah, and this is our thirty
third year. We've been doing ita minute now, and we still love
it. I still love what Ido and still very passionate about music and
creating and getting on stage and seeingthe faces of people that have lived with
the music. And that's the thing. It goes back to what you were
talking about, you know, tobe able to be in that spot where

(04:08):
you can come to a show thathas that's got a wide perspective and reaches
over different generations. It's crazy tobe in that spot now because I don't
feel like i've I can't believe thatit's here. But when I first started,
the kids that were you know thatwe're coming to our shows. Now

(04:30):
they have kids and bringing them, introducing them to what we build. And
it's pretty magical to see out there. You know, Yeah, you wanted
to go and play where your hero'splayed, and now people are, they're
playing where you play, and you'reintroducing your audience to this new brand of
country. And Megan Maroney is itbeing showing her that the ropes. I

(04:50):
mean, she's building this whole base, and I love this marriage of the
two of your fan bases. They'reshowing up early for her, they're buying
her merch. We've got the hathere wearing the Kenny Chesney shirt like you're
bringing all of that country together.Well, I can tell you that this
is our We started this tour inApril, and I didn't know Megan at

(05:11):
all before the tour started. Itwas in February, and you know,
we're about about eight weeks from thetour starting, and I reached out to
her. I said, we shouldgo to breakfast and just meet because I
don't want to meet you the firstday of the tour. I want to
start this friendship. And from thatday to where we are now, it's
just unbelievable how close of friends we'vebecome, you know. But she truly

(05:31):
has and not that everybody has todo this, but Megan has truly earned
everyone's respect out on the road justoff work ethic alone and just to see
the I don't know the audience thatshe's building for herself, and she has
a specific audience that I don't wantto say this because I don't want to

(05:54):
put it out there in the world, but just from observing it, it's
Taylor esque of Taylor back in theday. I'm not saying it's that,
but it could be that's her favoritetoo. Well, that's Megan's favorite artist,
so she would appreciate that yet reallywonderful to emulate, you know,
but she's not even emulating. I'mjust saying that her fan base growing it

(06:16):
when they're really at this age isreally special, you know, because it
reminds me of what we did along time ago. I mean we started,
we had our lane where we werecarving out a lane and the people
just came with us. You know. It was before social media, and
it was all word of mouth andit was just hard work. And that's

(06:38):
why we respect maganis because it's asif she's taking advantage of the social aspect
of it today but working as hardas we did without it. Yeah,
and it's really great to see. That's so true. Love that you have
her on too. I think it'sthe perfect mix. Last night, I
have to bring this up. Backstage, we were talking about this. We
play all time favorites on K andI X. We've been a radio station

(06:58):
for I think we're closing on sixtyyear, so we played every single Kenny
Chesney song. But you were saying, there's a couple of songs that fit
your sound by different artists. SoTim McGrath song that could be a Kenny
Chesney song, or that you loveso much a couple Tim tim as he
was a great song guy, youknow. But there's two. Well,
one song for sure is a lockand I love it. I mean I

(07:21):
was jealous when I heard Tim singthis song, you know what I mean,
Like, I still love it.Yeah, And maybe we'll do it
tonight, right, that's what That'show tonight's gonna be different. We'll do
all songs by people that I love, I said, And then then we'll
just play people songs. Yeah.Yeah. And there was another one we

(07:41):
talked about artist chief Eric Church, and I could totally hear this being a
Kenny Chesney streak in my hand.Yeah, definitely I could. I could
definitely hear me singing those. Yeah, we might do that tonight too.
And one song you said you passedon, which this will happen to artists.
You'll get pitched songs, and thisparticular one, you were picturing yourself
singing it each night, maybe alittle hi and so it's still a great

(08:01):
song. But the one one ofthe songs that that I that was that
I had that I could have recordedthat didn't And every artist has these songs,
right, But the one that Ithat I loved that I didn't record
was a song called What Hurts theMost, and I loved it, and
I knew the moment that I letit go, that I was going to

(08:22):
hear that on the radio one day. I knew it and it was less
than three months. Yeah, andwhen I heard Rascal Flat's version and I
went, mmm, you know,I just sat with it for a minute
and I had to let it gobecause I knew it was a great song.
And uh, and it is agreat song. Yeah, you just
released a new body of work fullof great songs. The album is called

(08:43):
Born. We've already had a numberone from that album, and we have
another new song. And I feellike that's tonight's anthem is just to say,
like basically it is the anthem ofwell, just stick around in Phoenix,
find some time to feel come tothe radio station just to say we
did just do another show, butin evening with Kenny Chesney Gates will be

(09:03):
at five o'clock and the show startsat seven, and we're just going for
it. Yeah, We're just goingto go for it. And so,
like I said, we're we're verydisappointed. I know that there are a
lot of fans that are disappointed forhow last night unfolded. But like I
said, I wish I could wasthat powerful to make the weather, but
we're not, you know, Andso I hated it. But we're here

(09:24):
tonight and it's gonna be rocking. We're in. I just really appreciate you
guys for everything, and and toall the fans you know that that are
coming out tonight, it's going tobe a fun night. It really is.
