The Haunted Majestic Theatre – Dallas, TX Located in the heart of downtown Dallas, the Majestic Theatre is one of the city’s most iconic and historic venues. Built in 1921, it originally served as a vaudeville house and later transitioned into a movie palace. Today, it hosts concerts, plays, and special events—but it’s also known for its paranormal activity.

Haunted Reputation The Majestic Theatre is widely considered one of the most haunted places in Texas, and here’s why:
  • Ghostly Sightings: Staff and performers have reported seeing a shadowy figure roaming the balcony and backstage areas. This spirit is believed to be a former performer who never left the stage.
  • Phantom Applause: After hours, when the theatre is empty, some have claimed to hear clapping and cheering—as if an invisible audience is still enjoying the show.
  • Cold Spots & Flickering Lights: Sudden drops in temperature and unexplained flickering lights are common, especially in dressing rooms and the orchestra pit.
  • Elevator Mystery: The old elevator is said to operate on its own, stopping at random floors with no one inside.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's mixed one or two point nine. Bill at a
kid Canniceloanpaz producer, who is here. We've been talking about
the most haunted places in Texas. We started this last week.
We're counting down ten to one, and Texas being one
of the most haunted places they say in the world
is pretty crazy. They say Texas is number two as
far as the most ghost sightings in the United States.

(00:22):
I serious, Yeah, I think what number one is. I
think it was like Connecticut or something weird. I was
like number number two. That's how many you know what
it is. It's a lot of historic places around here,
a lot of history, a lot of unfortunately too, a
lot of violence. Yeah, you know, there's been a lot
of violence here and that's that's some of the things
that I think spirits gravitate towards. So if you don't know,

(00:42):
I'll count down. Number ten was Old Alton Bridge in Denton,
goat Man's Bridge, number six with six flags over Texas
and the Ghost of Annie. Number eight was white Rock Lake,
the Lady of the Lake. Number seven, Baker Hotel, number six,
Texas State Capital. Number five yesterday is Flagpole Hill, which
I got a lot of calls about that Flagpole Hill

(01:04):
House on Blackburn Drive where there's been numerous unlivings. They say,
everybody that moves into that house loses their mind, right,
who's real? People still do? So? Listen, people want to
live by a white Rock Lake, I guess. And then
number four today, and I get very excited about this
one because I've been there. There's definitely an eerie vibe

(01:27):
even if you look, even if you look at this
place from the outside. We have to go to downtown
Dallas and we are going to the Majestic Theater. Oh
and this list is basically compiled by people who've done
a lot of paranormal research and experts who go to
these places and they have all their tools and the
technology and the things they do, and you know, they

(01:47):
they read things, the meters and whatnot. But they say
this theater they say, every theater has ghosts. Every every
old theater they say has a ghosts. I don't know.
It's for whatever reason. Theaters are very haunted. Majestic Theater
definitely no exception. Located on Elm Street, which is just
kind of weird in itself on Elm Street, Yeah, of course,

(02:09):
but it has a very rich history. You know, from
the nineteen tens it was a vaudeville, vaudevillian performance center
they called it, and then in nineteen twenty two it
kind of transitioned into screening movies, and it was a
big deal back in the day. I mean it was
a massive deal. Celebrities used to go there back in

(02:29):
the day for screenings and for whatnot. Then it was
closed in the seventies and it reopened in nineteen eighty
three as a National Register of Historic Places. Right, but
they say the biggest spirit there, and the one ghost
that you will run into is the owner, the original owner,
this guy Carl, who they say still haunts the building

(02:50):
to this day, ensuring everything runs according to his liking.
I guess he was a freak when it came to
controlling every single detail about the theater, from the lights
to even a special door that he had made so
he could cut to the stage quicker that door. Matter
of fact, now they say they've had to lock it

(03:11):
with multiple different dead bolts because they always find it open.
Oh to the point where they hired one former employee said,
my job specifically was just to make sure this door
stayed closed. What it always opened if they lock it.
The next day, they show up and they say it's open.

(03:32):
And this has been numerous people who say this has happened.
Each morning they would come in, it would be wide open,
and it would be a strange chill in that room
like he was there. Yeah. Even one manager explained that
they smelled weird things and they would find cold spots
in different parts of the theater that he would stand

(03:52):
in when he was alive. And then the freakiest part
to me is, though, is there I gotta find the picture,
but there's a phone. They say he had his favorite
seat in the theater and they say in some performances,
you can see a spirit in that seat. What yes,
watching the show, actors and whatnot on stage have seen this.

(04:15):
They've smelled smoke in that area, like his cigar or
pipe or whatever that he used to smoke. Yeah, and
there's other ghosts, not just Carl though. There's a stage
hand ghost that's said to haunt the Majestic Theater who
goes in the backstage area. Here's the freakiest part about
that that ghost is he's a stage hand, so I
guess he used to help back in the day escort

(04:38):
the actors on and off stage. So actors you know
who have used you know, been there recently say that
they have heard him whispering right before they go on stage,
right next to them. They say, yeah, the weirdest thing
is and some of them don't even mind, like some
of them were just used to it. We had heard

(04:59):
him things before we go on stage, and we know
it's him. There's another woman's spirit who is said to
it mysteriously died in the Majestic Theater back of the day,
who haunts the upper balconies, they say, and you can
see her, I don't know, floating around or whatever spirits
do in the upper balcony area. And there's another man

(05:21):
who died of a heart attack mid show at a
performance one time. I think this was in nineteen forty one,
who they say, you can also see in that upper
balcony with her what at the Majestic Theater. And the
crazy part about that story, it's confirmed because this is sad.
But the guy died mid performance and everybody around him

(05:42):
just thought he was sleeping so didn't even help him.
That's not funny. So he was just sitting there and
they're like, oh, yeah, because people fall asleep during performance,
Oh yeah, I fell asleep, miss Yeah, and they're just like,
oh God, let Chuck sleep. Then all of a sudden, Chuck, Chuck,

(06:04):
time to go. Chuck didn't get up. I don't know
if that was his name, but Majestic Theater they say
one of the most haunted places in Texas. That is
number four tomorrow number three, and it's a good one.
