I would go and meet these people face to face
and build relationships with them, and they think that they

would get to the place, the key would never work.

And oh my god, really, what motivated you.

I was pregnant and the job that my husband was
going for it fell through, and nobody was willing to help,
you know, standing out in front of Walmart. It hits
different when people tell you that they don't want to
help you, or when you go to a church for

help and they're like, oh, we got to split up
your whole family. So you know, it was one of
those type of situations when you're sleeping on the floor.

Now, I will say this though, I feel like the
good thing to do is to kind of get people
a warning on how not to get scammed to pay
it forward? Is there a way is there something people
should look out for in this particular scam because I've
never heard of this one before.

My thing is is you're renting a room from anybody,
go and actually look at the place before you give
up any money.
Speaker 2 (02:31):
Okay, so you would you would get deposits and you know,
first month's.

Real it wasn't deposit, it was deposits, first month's brand,
last month's brand, all of that, and they would get
a receipt with you know, whatever name I was using
at that time, and you know, with their name. You know,
the next day they would have to pay with the key.
You know, I'm super busy at work. You know, I'm

a I'm gonna let out a big secret. I'm a chef,
so you know, I worked busy hours. So you know,
if you're able to just you know, take this receipt
and it's key year more than welcome to going to
the house and your rooms on the left hand side,
and you don't have no worry.

So then you would, you know, get the money. They
go get this key to a house that you just
kind of gave an address. It wasn't even your home
at all, and then they were scammed and then you
would just disappear. Yeah, wow, how.

Much money did you make doing this? Thousands?

I was able to get at that time at least
you know, weekly. Then it was apartments. Then you know,
I was able to take care of my kids, my
family with that, does it come with risk? Yes?

Right if they find out who you are? What now
did you did you kind of pretend you were a
you know, property placement person or you know, or a
leasing agent or you just were like, hey, this is
a room I'm renting.

Yeah. It was basically like, hey, you know I have
this two bedroom apartment. You know, I'm a single female,
I you know, work long hours. I'm a chef, so
you know, I'm I'm constantly on the go. If you're
willing to take those rooms, you know, give them nice
pictures of wherever I could find some rooms or wherever,

and that's it. Yeah.

Well, and I know you sound like you regret it.
And if you had to go back in time and
tell your you know, personal self something, would you or
would you say no, I do the same thing.

say this, people on the West Coast are way different
on the South. So it's you got to be a
little bit more grimier on the West Coast than the South.
So you know, I just look at it. If people
were more genuine and more open to helping people like

because of what I've done to peak.

somebody or some places are putting stickers over that tap

to pay that look like a tap to pay, only
there's a chip in it that reads all your information
and steals your stuff. Pease, So how are you supposed
to know?

Yeah, I mean that might honestly be the safest way
nowadays to not get scammeda because I don't know about you,
but I have to check, you know, to make sure
that the thing isn't fake, the card insert isn't fake,
because sometimes those are molds that go over the original
that take your info. Then you got to worry about
QR codes because people are putting QR codes on stuff

that goes directly to a fake like pay for parking.
People are going to pay for parking, look at Christmas
lights whatever, And there's scams where you scan the QR code,
Oh pay here, But you're putting in your information to
a scammer's website about yourself
