Speaker 1 (00:00):
Aesus right, Yeah, Sames America and.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
For regious one nation in your day, and yes.
Speaker 1 (00:16):
It is wrong.
Speaker 3 (00:20):
This is Columbia's Morning News with Gary David and Christopher
Thompson on one O three point five FM and five
sixty AM w VOC.
Speaker 1 (00:29):
Good morning and walk up to a Monday. It is
a seventh morning of April fifteen, almost sixteen minutes now
past the hour of six. And uh, I guess it's
gonna be a rainy day of a Monday, right, looks
that way. Yeah, okay, you know I haven't. I haven't
heard it falling on the roof quite yet. No.
Speaker 2 (00:48):
It we got a little bit last night.
Speaker 1 (00:50):
Yeah we did. Yeah, we saw some. Yeah, I was
let to check the radar here and I forgot to
bring it up over here to see you with. But
at some point we'll be impacted by this.
Speaker 2 (00:59):
And there's been some devastation in parts of the country
with this storm that's sweeping this way, and then the temperatures.
Speaker 1 (01:05):
Drop and then the temps drop. Yes, I was, believe
it or not, I was actually in the pool Saturday.
Speaker 2 (01:11):
Oh my gosh.
Speaker 1 (01:12):
That's a brand new record for me. April the fifth,
that I was in the pool Wow. Crazy.
Speaker 2 (01:17):
Huh, it wasn't that warm.
Speaker 1 (01:19):
Actually, it's one of it. Once you get into it,
you know, you're okay, okay, just got to get into it.
You just got to jump on in, which I did do.
But yeah, no, now and now we're talking you know,
sixties for a couple of days for high temperatures. Once
this front moves on, moves on through here.
Speaker 2 (01:33):
They've had freeze alerts in effect for places like Oklahoma
City and Kansas City.
Speaker 1 (01:37):
They have like a blizzard of Amarillo, Texas the other day.
Speaker 2 (01:40):
Yeah, all these places. This storm just came through and
now boom.
Speaker 1 (01:45):
Yeah. So it's it's just off to our west right now.
It may well impact you probably will before this morning
commute is over. Unless you go to work early like
we do, then you're okay. But if you're out there
right now, you should be all right. Okay, So we'll
deal with that today. I'm run big stories, hot topics.
So it's got all the gory details in the the
ugly end too. A Gamecock women's basketball season in Tampa
(02:07):
yesterday wasn't very close. No, it wasn't. It was for
about a quarter give or take. Then after that, Wow,
that you contact that is a buzz saw man, very
very impressive.
Speaker 2 (02:19):
Pretty good. Yeah, three pretty good players at the top.
Speaker 1 (02:22):
Yeah. Now here at home, we had well the hands
off protest over the State House. Now I don't know,
I missed, Yeah, did you. Oh that's too bad. Don't worry.
They'll probably do it again one of these days. More
than likely, I don't know. The posting courier says, a
large crowd, define large for me. The crowd had swelled
(02:47):
significantly by two pm. Okay, well, this was again part
of a nationwide you know, get out in protest effort.
Here folks unhappy. Well, folks, I say, the Democrats and
left us unhappy. It doesn't matter what Trump. We'd have
had these rallies anyway, no matter what Trump was doing
or not doing, because you know, Trump's in office. Lindsey
(03:07):
Graham meantime, moving quickly and maybe I don't know why
so soon, but not wasting any time at all. Turning
Trump's endorsement. That was a couple of weeks ago. You
talk about early huh rolling out a bunch of social
media ads spotlighting Trump's support. President Trump was on team,
Graham says one fifteen second spot before showing Trump himself
(03:31):
talking about Graham being a good man and loves you
and loves the state, and so on and so forth.
Does he have a challenger yet, not that I'm aware of.
Does he know something we don't know about somebody possibly
stepping up? Maybe he does, yeah, or maybe he's trying
to make sure they don't. Well, that may be exactly
what it is. Right there. We know he has a
(03:52):
massive war chest and with Trump support, you know, no
doubt of shoeing for another another term of the Senate,
much to the sugar of a lot of folks, I know.
Getting back in the headlines, Alex Murdox lawyers are unhappy
with the Attorney General's office, accusing that office of stalling
here a battle over deadlines to file key documents in
(04:16):
the State Supreme Court. I don't know. Does anybody care
at this point anymore? I don't think so. I don't
think we'll spend much time wasting anybody's time on that one.
That owner of that landscaping company that worked on that
richland one early learning center project avoiding contempt of court citation.
(04:37):
But there's still a hearing to come here. This is
a blooming and Grooming Landscape Services well what it used
to be called. Now it's B and G Landscaping of
South Carolina. Remember, this is a company that did allegedly
some more COVID here at that site, a company that
hasn't had a business license for well quite some time,
(04:59):
and the company's been used a lot by the school
district for the last decade or so without a business license.
And this of course, these lawsuits that have been flying around,
these are homeowners near that project where the runoff because
apparently the alleged site work that was done wasn't adequate,
has caused problems for these homeowners, so they're they're suing.
(05:21):
You mentioned, yeah, that the system that is going to
impact us today has been deadly across parts of the
South and the Midwest, at least sixteen weather related deaths
by early yesterday. We again, you know, knock on some
wood here. We tend to get pretty lucky with these systems.
(05:41):
They kind of, you know, packed their punch off to
our west and by the time they hit us, there's
not a whole lot of that energy left. Let's again
hope that's the case again, But you feel bad for
the folks so terribly affected by this. I haven't even
brought up the maybe I should maybe I shouldn't. What
the markets to do? I know it's not good today
(06:01):
again as uh, the markets are trending downward Bigley again
this morning. Trump over the weekend saying he's not going
to back down these tariffs. He called them medicine. We've
had huge market losses, certainly.
Speaker 2 (06:18):
So when does the market adjust and get used to
what I don't know is obviously happening.
Speaker 1 (06:25):
That's you know, if we all knew that question, the
answer that question.
Speaker 2 (06:29):
Rather, I just keep that, just keeps seeing my work
life extended farther and farther out. There's another day or
week month after work right there. Well again, well this
this will at some point stabilize where we get back
to where we were?
Speaker 1 (06:43):
I don't know now. Now, apparently Elon Musk has floorting
some ideas here when it comes to these tariffs and
to the EU, saying he helps the US and in
Europe can develop an economic relationship that would eliminate the
need for these tariffs, talking about a freedom of trade
zone between the US and Europe that wouldn't stink. Right,
(07:05):
We'll see where it goes. We mentioned this late last
week and they got it done early Saturday morning, the Senate,
voting largely along party lines, passing a budget blueprint that
does encompass many of the president's legislative priorities, including a
very important one, and that is a permanent extension of
(07:26):
Trump's twenty seventeen tax cuts. Those tax cuts were set
to expire at the end of this year unless Congress acted,
and the Senate has again in a largely along party
lines at fifty one forty eight vote, you had Rand
Paul and Susan Collins joining with Senate Democrats to oppose
(07:46):
the fiscal framework. It also includes about one hundred and
seventy five billion dollars in new spending on border security, which,
for the sounds of it, we don't have a border
issue anymore. I mean, it's like zero illegal crossings. Basically
a win for the Trump White House. With a Supreme
Court siding with Trump to temporarily allow DEI cuts of
some sixty five million dollars, the IRS saying they're playing
(08:10):
to cut about a quarter of their staff, and they'll
start by closing their civil rights office. I'm sorry, why
does the IRS have a civil rights office? Money's green? Okay,
money's green. Oh, I don't know. And Dinnis a Menace
has passed. But that's the show I hadn't thought of
(08:31):
in years. Huh j north Star of Dennis the Menace
dying at the age of seventy three. He had been
battling cancer. All right, friends, we'll get to that. More
coming up on this. It is the Monday morning edition
of Columbia's Morning News, and as always, it is good
to have you with us.
Speaker 3 (08:46):
Listen anytime when I'm going to work with the iHeartRadio.
Speaker 1 (08:50):
I downloaded them on my phone. I can listen whenever.
Speaker 3 (08:52):
I want on all three point five FMN, five sixty
AM w VOC. This is Columbia's Morning News with Gary
David and Christopher Thompson on one O three point five
FM and five sixty AM w VOC.
Speaker 1 (09:09):
And good morning too. You had a six forty four,
So going to the break, I asked the question of
the Democrats really this crazy or has the party in
certain states just moved that far to the Left's been
a lot of talk about Alexandria Cassio Cortez here recently,
Comrade Cortez and how she's viewed as well. Again, I
think that the numbers were like thirteen percent or whatever.
(09:30):
It wasn't a huge number, but still of a number
of different Democrats that were said to be reflecting the
true values of the party, she was in the lead. Yeah. Yeah, Well,
now there's a new poll out. Now I should preface
this by saying, this polling data comes from an outletot
(09:51):
called Data for Progress, which is a very very left
wing outlet.
Speaker 2 (09:56):
I can imagine just with that name.
Speaker 1 (09:57):
You're right, Data for Progress. Sam mcalwy is the guy
who started this poll, alleged associate of crypto fraudster or
Sam Bateman Freed, and a guy who was long advocated
for abolishing and immigration enforcement. Okay, so there's there's a
disclaimer out of the way. Okay, but what did this
(10:18):
poll show. This is in the state of New York,
seven hundred and sixty seven likely Democrat primary voters. The
question was, well, one of the questions was if AOC
took on Schumer in twenty twenty eight, who would you
vote for? Fifty five percent, said Alexandria Cassio Cortez. Thirty
(10:41):
six percent, sat Chuck Schumer.
Speaker 2 (10:43):
Now, okay, Now, is that is that moving the party
further to the left or is that just you know,
he's been there a long time. They're ready for new leadership,
no matter.
Speaker 1 (10:53):
Whom it comes from. Well, considering nine percent weren't sure.
I don't know whether this was nine percent looking for
another viable alternative, but that fifty five percent just went
ahead and said, yeah, okay, Alexandria Cassio Cortez, she's my gal.
It's pretty stunning. And again, this this comes when a
lot of Democrats are unhappy with Schumer for not shutting
(11:16):
down the government a couple of weeks ago, for you know,
going along with this this budget deal the House put
up the Trump budget, you know. So you can take
this pretty much with a grain of salt. But we're seeing,
you know, more and more data that indicates that, yeah,
and not that I trust me, Not that I'm calling
Chuck Schumer a moderate Democrat because he's not right, but
(11:37):
he's nowhere near for as far left as AOC. Eighty
two percent of those polls that they felt positive about Cortes.
I'm sorry, a Casio Cortez. And this is a poll
just in New York, Just in New York. Yes, yeah, see,
I think this is skewed in so many different yas.
I think So, I mean, eighty two percent felt good
about her after learning I guess they had been paying
(11:58):
attention that she's in favor of taxpayer funded healthcare and
the Green New Deal. Okay, these are low information voters.
Apparently you did you didn't know that? Wow? Okay, I
mean she introduced the Green New Deal six years ago.
Where you all been? Okay? Another interesting little tidbit out
of this poll, Ocasio Cortez is not even the most
(12:21):
popular Democrat in the state of New York, at least
according to these seven hundred and seventy six likely Democrat
primary voters. Kamala Harris got an eighty one percent favorability
rating from these people. Wow.
Speaker 2 (12:35):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (12:37):
Uh. Tied next with the Cortes at seventy five percent
was Elizabeth Warren, who's not even a New Yorker, but
it's okay. The highest favorability rating went to Bernie Sanders
at eighty three percent. Again, so yeah, are they just
have they gone this crazy? Are they this far to
(12:59):
the left? Is the party moving in that direction? Schumer
had sixty two percent favorability rating. They also found this
out that Gavin Newsom had a fifty one percent favorability
rating because he's on the other coast. They may have
something to do with his podcast and him trying to
attack toward the center, which is a total lie. But anyway, Okay,
(13:22):
well they're they're they're floundering. Certainly we're a long way
away from twenty twenty eight. But let's face it, I mean,
it would be it would be very interesting to see
AOC try to primary Schumer.
Speaker 2 (13:32):
Further dividing their party exactly.
Speaker 1 (13:35):
I I along for the day, actually I really do.
And how much money would be spent on that race, huh,
because you know, all the extreme leftists would come out
and I mean listen, AOC would do She'd raise a
ton of money because these people are just that, they're
just that looney to think this is the way to
go made. How much outside money would pour into a
(13:57):
race like that in a primary? Wow? Wow? Okay, Well,
there you go, AOC over Schumer by almost twenty points
in a way too early primary poll in the Empire State.
Speaker 3 (14:11):
You're listening to Columbia's Morning news on one oh three
point five FM and five sixty am WVOC. Once again,
here's Gary David and Christopher Thompson. The markets are gonna
boom the stock is gonna boom, the country is gonna boom,
and the.
Speaker 2 (14:27):
Rest of the world wants to see is there any
way that can make a deal.
Speaker 1 (14:30):
Well, just not quite yet, but give it some time.
Good morning, it is sixteen minutes after seven o'clock. Good
to have you along. I'm Gary David with Christopher Thompson
the team. This is Columbia's Morning News. Now again, I
know I get it. Where if anybody should be freaking
ask to be people like me. You know, I'm I'm
almost sixty six years old. This is if you're in
your forties, or your thirties, even your fifties, you shouldn't
(14:55):
be freaking out of what we're seeing right now. You're
watching your four one k dwindle here, wait.
Speaker 2 (15:02):
A minute, I'm gonna amend that in your fifties in
this business, yeah, I should be freaking this business. Yeah,
well yeah, this business. Yeah, all right, I have the
right to freak out.
Speaker 1 (15:11):
Yeah. When did the market stabilize? Here? Right? When does
it do we get back what we've lost? We've lost
only four thousand points on the doubt last week. Now,
futures are well doing fairy better than they were early
this morning. Down seven thirty nine. Right now, I guess
fairy not as bad as it. It was down like
eleven hundred points at one time this morning, it's gonna
(15:33):
be a little ugly day, maybe not the ugly week
here on all this. But Trump says he's not backing down. Uh,
there's the SoundBite there. A board air Force one says
he he doesn't want global Marcus to fall, but he
wasn't concerned about the massive sell off either. Sometimes you
have to take medicine to fix something, he says. Now
(15:55):
there's no doubt there's something needs to be fixed. Okay,
there's no doubt about that. Now, he says he's been
speaking to leaders from all over the world. They want
to make deals.
Speaker 2 (16:05):
Detnia, who is coming wet today? Sometime soon?
Speaker 1 (16:11):
I think it might be today. Yeah, this is what
he listens.
Speaker 2 (16:16):
It's not like he's busy. He's not busy doing other things,
but he wants to get over here and talk to Trump.
Speaker 1 (16:21):
Yeah, this is the the the one thing that has
happened that globally, we're now all in the same boat together,
aren't we. No, it's it's it's it's not fair the
way we've been taking advantage of and this is what
(16:46):
Trump's trying to fix. And we knew going in, we
saw some of this and now the Marcus didn't react
when it was just, you know, a terriff against Canada
or terff against Mexico or whatever. But this, you know,
and knowing it was coming, knowing April second was going
to be what Trump wound up calling Liberation Day. That
(17:07):
was going to be the day last week that these
reciprocal tariffs were rolled out again. In what sane logical
sound mind, is it fair to have one country charge
another country a tariff and for that second country not
to want to level the playing field. The fix is
(17:27):
really simple, you could you could stop doing this and
let's get back to free trade. Elon Musk is hitting
at this at least with Europe, hoping that this will
wind up with the United States of America and the
EU basically becoming a free trade zone. I mean that
benefits everybody.
Speaker 2 (17:48):
And the problem Democrats have with all of this, and
you know, they've they've wanted to attack and they're not
quite sure how to do it. You could you see
them kind of gingerly dancing around is because for years
some of the highest profile Democrats have been talking about
how bad our trade deals are. Of course, it was
usually when a Republican was in the White House that
they were making these claims. Of course, nonetheless, they've been
(18:11):
talking for years about how we're getting rooked at the
table when it comes to a lot of these deals
that we have with other countries, even our allies. Right,
But now that Trump has done something, you know, they're
trying to figure out ways to attack without throwing their
complete hypocrisy up for everybody to see.
Speaker 1 (18:28):
Well, that's kind of hard to do it. It is
now again, we could see these tariffs, we can see
nations drop tariffs, We can see these tariffs again create
millions of jobs here in this country. That's the second
part of this equation is to bring these manufacturing jobs
(18:49):
back home. We've seen this even though what even before
these were announced, a Hyundai announcing big multi billion dollar
investments in the US, Ford saying they're bringing some production
they've been doing overseas back to Detroit. And this is
happening in fairly short orders. So that's the other part
(19:09):
of this equation. Bring these manufacturing jobs back and quite honestly,
if if this works out the way Trump and UH
and company envision it. Then this this will go down
as a as a as a momentous occasion. But boy,
in the meantime, it hurts, doesn't it. It hurts. So
now we had these hands off protests all across the
(19:31):
country yesterday, and we had actually it was a Saturday,
not yesterday, Saturday, and we had, you know, a crowd
gathered over the State House. Again, I don't have we
don't have a number on this. The post and couriers
set a large crowd. I guess that's all relative as
to maybe it's larger than some of the other ones
they've been able to draw to this point. But you
(19:53):
look at what they're the groups that were behind organizing
all this. You had let's see civil rights organizations, labor unions.
Speaker 2 (20:03):
What, Yeah, a lot of them are on board with
what Trump is doing.
Speaker 1 (20:08):
M LGB, LBGTQ plus advocates, veterans, elections advocates, the activists,
I should say. So basically you had anybody and everybody
who doesn't like Trump lining up and all for different reasons, right.
Speaker 2 (20:27):
All for you know, they're just going down the checklist
of everything Trump has done so far, saying okay, well
he's attacked this, he's threatened to cut this, you know, Okay,
I want to protest that.
Speaker 1 (20:37):
Yeah, but when it comes to teariffs. Aside for a second,
the whole elon Musk of the doge thing, which, by
the way, there's all kind of reporting last week and
the liberal media that Musk was on the way out, well,
doesn't seem like it based on what Trump has said,
(21:00):
how can you protest that? Now, if you lost your job, Okay,
I get it, you're unhappy, how can you protest wanting
to cut the fat out of government the wasteful spending
of your money too? This is not just taxpayer dollars
from conservatives being spent. This taxpayer dollars from liberals being
(21:20):
spent too. How can you protest that? And don't forget
it was Barack Obama years ago who talked about the
exact same thing. The Trump difference was you anwy thing
about it, But he talked about wasteful government spending and
cutting back on Hey man, I did a little bit
here or there, but for the most part it was
(21:42):
just all talking, no action. So now we got the action.
How can you be against that? How can anybody in
their right mind, especially this time of the year, you know,
looking at your income taxes and saying wow, really yeah, okay.
Speaker 2 (21:57):
Well, and they keep floating the idea that, oh, you know,
and these hands off protests were saying the same thing,
that that Trump is cutting medicare, that Trump is cutting
Social Security, but they don't mention he's not cutting benefits.
He's cutting again, as you pointed out, the fat.
Speaker 1 (22:11):
The fat in the world, the wat Yes anyway, okay,
uh oh. Our future's now down six' Ten so we're
moving in the right. Direction at least we've got a
ways to, go.
Speaker 3 (22:24):
THOUGH i like keeping up with local news And i'm
traveling The iHeartRadio. App The iHeartRadio app powered by ONE
o three point FIVE fm and five SIXTY am W.
Voc this Is columbia's morning news With Gary david And
Christopher thompson on ONE o three point FIVE fm and
(22:45):
five sixty am DOUB VOCs seven forty.
Speaker 1 (22:48):
Two good. Morning those scattered showers remain north of the
immediate midlands and off to the. West but it's a
slowly it's a slow movement. System man kind of slowly
moving his. Way but if you got to be by
or by eight o'clock and you're you, know right in
the Election Richian. County it may be okay, here nothing
real heavy this morning, anyway but maybe later. On, Okay
(23:11):
SO i guess this is gonna be another day for
a runoff over the early learning center. Site. Wow. Okay,
now we mentioned last week that the landscaping service that
was hired to do u mitigation service for this runoff
(23:32):
was in real danger being held in contempt of. Court
well On. Friday this, again this goes back to the.
Lawsuits one in, particular was filed by a homeowner Last
july and after a storm water runoff she says rendered
her her home. Unlivable imagine, that she. Sued they were
(24:01):
in court On. Friday the owner of what's now CALLED
b AND G landscaping Of South, carolina Formerly blooming And
Grooming Landscaping, SERVICES i don't, know formerly something, Else i'm
not really. Sure the owner showed.
Speaker 2 (24:19):
Up they hadn't responded because they said their address was
typed in.
Speaker 1 (24:23):
Wrong, YEAH i said they had Sent there was a
one invoice that was just one for what two and two,
thousand six hundred and fifty bucks something like, that and
sixty dollars and. That, yeah she says she had email
this to the. Attorney Chris, kenny the homeowner's attorney that
(24:45):
was earlier this, year said but apparently misspelled his email.
Address you know when that, happens don't you want me
to get a kickback email undeliverable or maybe it didn't
go to somebody else with a similar email, letters who.
Knows but so that was the. Excuse a little multiple
(25:05):
requests by the attorney to produce, documents and it turns
out there was one document and that was, it and
that was one invoice two and sixty. Bucks so the
owner of the landscaping company says that they were called
out to, just you, know lay down some sandbags in
The eastman between the work site and homeowner's. PROPERTY i
(25:31):
guess those sandbags are still. THERE i don't know are they.
Working apparently, not because the damage. Continues mm. Hmm, now
again this is complicated by the fact that this is
a landscaping service who has not had a business license
(25:52):
In Richland county for quite some. Time matter of, fact
at quite some time is more than a. Decade also
a landscape company that owes thousands of dollars in unemployment.
Taxes this was brought to light by A state newspaper
investigation a while. Back yet here they. Go they were
(26:16):
again hired by the. County they've been a long time
vendor for the. County so it makes you wonder.
Speaker 2 (26:22):
Who hired, them the county or the school. District i'm,
SORRY i say a long time minding with the. County
there have been a long time vender with the school.
District don't you think county councils should step in and,
say you know who signed this? Contract did you not
do any due? Diligence did you not look in and
vet this? Company?
Speaker 1 (26:41):
Well number, one is there a? Contract the only document
produced was an? Invoice that was. It that's easy. Enough. Yeah,
now typically in government, work well That i've ever worked in,
government BUT i think we all kind of know that
in government, work before you can buy a, pencil you
(27:02):
got to have a purchase, order and that many times
goes through a couple of different chains before said pencil
is finally. Purchased, well we're talking about you, KNOW i,
mean not a great deal of, money but twenty five
hundred and sixty. Bucks shouldn't the school district have some
sort of a paper, chain a paper trail, documents purchase,
(27:24):
orders sign offs okays contract do They and that's again
the bigger problem. Here it would appear as, though again
this was just one of those, HEY i know, somebody
and in this case it is somebody who's worked with
a district multiple times over the. Years but again a
(27:48):
company with with no business license to operate In Richland.
County but then, again why? Bother because the school district
did even bother to get a work permit to start
the work to begin. WITH i guess they thought they
were just above and beyond they could do whatever they
wanted to.
Speaker 2 (28:03):
DO i, mean was there anything legal about what was
going on?
Speaker 1 (28:07):
Here, well that's that's the, question isn't It? Now was
there anything above board about all of this from the get?
Go so, now the of, course as you know that
that whole, site it's been just, well we're not going
to do it. Now and how much? Money how much
tax payer money has been wasted in the. MEANTIME i
think it's what's somewhere around six million dollars if you
(28:28):
give or, take what do you do with that? Property?
Now oh, right it's going to be the gift that
keeps on. Giving, unfortunately because whenever we have heavy, rains
you're going to have these problems for homeowners around. There
you've got to do something with. It and how much
is that going to? Cost, Okay so, anyway at least for,
now said owner of said landscaping company is off the
(28:51):
hook for now when it comes to a contempt of court.
Charge but of course the lawsuit goes, on they'll be
back in the court room at some point in. Time, overall.
Speaker 3 (29:03):
You're listening To Columbia's Morning news on one oh three
point FIVE fm on five sixty am W. Voc once,
again Here's Gary david And Christopher thompson coming.
Speaker 1 (29:14):
Up on fourteen after. Eight good morning and good to
have you with us here on A monday. Morning not
rainy yet for a lot of, folks but apparently some
points gonna, happen, RIGHT i don't. Know it was pretty
it was pretty apocalyptic forecast by something medior roll just
a few days. Ago about, today.
Speaker 2 (29:31):
Which it's calmed down a.
Speaker 1 (29:32):
Bit, uh we'll, see we'll, see we'll. See all, right this,
uh this without a whole lot of fanfare from the.
MEDIA i guess there's so many there's so many things
to focus on these. Days it's, understandable, maybe But i'm
gonna tell you what this is is not anywhere close
(29:52):
to being an inconsequential vote that took place during a
votal rama voter rama Upon Capitol hill over the, weekend
so about two thirty in the Morning saturday morning of
voting The senate fifty one forty eight to move along
(30:15):
The trump backed budget resolution to The. House this includes
many Of trump's priorities for the, legislature, including and this
is the Part i'm, saying this is nowhere close to beginning,
consequential a permanent extension Of trump's twenty seventeen tax. Cuts
(30:38):
do you remember when those took, Place those were set
to sunset at the end of this. Year you can
bet your bottom dollar At Kamala harris won or had
The democrats retained The, senate that these would would have,
expired cause you, know A democrat a good TAX i didn't, like,
(31:01):
Right but with this vote in The senate now in The,
HOUSE i don't expect they'll be much of Any republican
opposition to, it although again this is you don't have
any room for, it you, no you. Don't it's not
just the tax. Cuts there's a lot of other stuff in, there,
too including one hundred and seventy five billion dollars a
(31:22):
new spending on border. Security WISH i could almost, argue
do we even know really need? That right? Now i'm
considering the reports that we basically are down to just
about zero when it comes to illegal border. Crossings you
want to keep it that way, though that's the, point,
Right but, again that's one hundred and seventy five billion
more added to the, deficit which is the reason, why,
(31:42):
well you had Ran paul vote against, this just Two
republican senators voted against, This Ran paul being, One and,
well could we just stop Calling Susan collins The? Republican?
Speaker 2 (31:53):
Yeah but why can't we find more cuts to make
given all That Elon musk has discovered so? Far why
is this budget ill so?
Speaker 1 (32:00):
Bloated? Wow is that an always apply to somebody's cuts to? This? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (32:07):
RIGHT i, mean if we're going to spend and you
just mentioned the border, security that's going to be obviously
an issue where we're spending. More but shouldn't we have
more than enough cuts to balance that? Out you would?
Hope AND i, GET i get why this whole thing
is so. Important, Yeah AND i get Where Rand paul
is coming from AND i AND i don't know if
(32:29):
THIS i don't think this is going to float past The.
House The house has already said, yeah The house's original
bills suggested something two and a half trillion to three
trillion dollars in, cuts and this comes nowhere close.
Speaker 1 (32:41):
To, it Doesn't it. Doesn't but do you want to
be The republican and The house Of representatives that stands
in the way of these tax cuts being? Extended do
you want to be the one who gets primary next
summer because you allow these tax cuts to.
Speaker 2 (33:00):
Expire wait a, minute so you're, saying that's a CHOICE
i have to. MAKE i have to either see the
deficit go balloon out of.
Speaker 1 (33:10):
Proportion this is this is this is why you put
all this stuff in one big old, bundle didn't it?
Right because you KNOW i don't want, that BUT i
gotta have. THIS i, mean this is the way the
sausage is. Made and during that process in The senate
of that, Vote Orama democrats were able to Force republicans
(33:32):
to to take some politically contentious votes on some amendments
were waiting to entitlement program. Spending this is this is
the way the sausage is. Made it ain't. Pretty you're
always gonna come away from these things With, OKAY i
like that, part but, boy this part stinks and that's
what you. Got. Yeah when it when it came to
(34:01):
reducing The house wants to reduce this budget by what
one and a half to two trillion? Dollars The senate
cuts could be as low as four. BILLION i, mean that's.
No they are nowhere close to being in the same
ballpark when it comes to that part of. This, okay
(34:25):
doze in. Action THE irs planning cut as many as
twenty thousand. Staffers layoffs Began. Friday that's that's up to
twenty five percent of their. Workforce the job cuts were
said to have begun in THE Irs office Of Civil
rights And, compliance which would be reduced by seventy five.
(34:47):
Percent now this is the. Office there's fewer than two
hundred people that work in this. Office, okay it's called
The office Of Civil rights And. Compliance what was it
formerly known as The office Of, Equity diversion And Inclusion
diversity rather, DIVERSION i say equity diversity, inclusion which begs
(35:11):
the question what do what do We why did we
need A dei office in THE? Irs can somebody please
explain that to. Me, well, okay so here we are
To april, seventh in the height of tax. Season could
this be? Problematic it could. Be, NOW i don't think
(35:34):
Leyon off seventy five percent of two hunred people who
worked in the formerly known As office Of equity diversitied
inclusion is going to cause too many. Problems but well
it's this is where the samis come from, though and,
yeah you are you mentioned this earlier The. Democrats trump's
(35:55):
going to Cut, Medicare he's going to Cut Social. Security
what they're cutting is the fat in the, budget basically
all those probationary workers who are hired to make the
job's number look. Good by the, way what Last, friday
we got a job's number that look, good and guess,
what it didn't include a bunch of hiring government workers
(36:18):
to make it look. Good that's What Joe biden was
up to in the last year or so of his,
presidency padding the. Numbers did these people even get a
desk in a name? Plate this is why you started
with those probationary. Workers you're still on probation and doings
went and find, out, well you know what That department
really didn't need this individual didn't really need this. Job
(36:43):
they were just there for one reason that was to
make the job numbers look. Good, now could twenty five
percent of staff be an issue for THE? Irs? Yeah
cut backs in The Solid Security? Administration could that be
a problem for customer? Service? Know you got min? Asked
could it get any? WORSE i mean really, well your
(37:08):
hope is is that the people that are left will
understand now that you know WHAT i got to earn
my keep. Here And i'm not, saying please don't misunderstand.
Me i'm not saying that everybody that works at the
government job is just sitting running their, duffs collecting a.
Paycheck there are people in private industry doing that. Too
they get sought, out they get found out a little quicker,
(37:28):
though is the. Difference but.
Speaker 2 (37:31):
THERE i, mean we've seen the duplication of, jobs the
duplication of offices and. Department what was the one you're
talk about last? Week it was The health And Human Services.
Speaker 1 (37:40):
Information offices or other.
Speaker 2 (37:41):
Directors they had like six DIFFERENT pr offices within one cabinet,
department one cabinet. Agency how do you even stay on
message when you've got six DIFFERENT pr.
Speaker 1 (37:55):
Departments you don't that you spend all your time trying,
to you, know be sure you're all in the same,
message and then by the time you get the message,
out it's well this old. News.
Speaker 2 (38:06):
Yeah AND i think there were like three or FOUR hr.
Speaker 1 (38:08):
Departments, boy, yeah, Yeah so you know this is why
we need. Dose The Supreme, court by the, way is
siding With trump to at least temporarily ALLOWED dei cuts
of some sixty five million. Dollars that was a five
(38:28):
to four. RULING i know you want to be seated
BEFORE i say, This hold on to your. Hats John
roberts sided with the three liberal justices and the decision
to nobody's great surprise, anyway at least for, now this
(38:49):
lawsuit that was filed by Eight democrat states has been.
Sidelined let's hope it stays that. Way that would be,
nice all. Right so, meantime we got heng on a,
minute futures, markets where are? THEY i got them running here.
Somewhere it's it's not it's not. GOOD i mean that
(39:09):
lost close to four thousand points last. Week my, goodness
doubts sixt eighty one right? Now hear about? IT a
week to wake up to the. Country talk about it.
Speaker 3 (39:19):
Here evil ONE o three point FIVE fm and five
SIXTY am W. Voc this Is Columbia's Morning news With
Gary david And Christopher thompson on ONE o three point
FIVE fm and five SIXTY am W.
Speaker 1 (39:36):
Voc, alrighty our final faves today forty on A monday.
Morning so good to have you with. Us if you're
on social, media you know basically who is in these.
Days don't be surprised to see ads Touting Lindsey. Graham
wait a, minute It's april, seventh twenty twenty. Five, okay
(40:01):
it's a long time Before lindsey's back on the ballot.
Speaker 2 (40:04):
Again, well THAT'S i was surprised That trump endorsed him
as quickly as he did as early in the.
Speaker 1 (40:10):
Process wasn't that? Weird, yeah especially on the history of
those TWO i Suppose trump could officially withdraw that endorsement
at some point in, time if you want to.
Speaker 2 (40:18):
Tell there's plenty of chances For graham to tick him
off before we get.
Speaker 1 (40:21):
There chances are that may that may, happen you, know
before we get To november of twenty twenty, six but.
Speaker 2 (40:28):
Or Even february of twenty Twenty so maybe.
Speaker 1 (40:30):
Even you, Know may of twenty twenty, five who knows well,
Well graham's rolling out social media ads Toouting trump's endorsement of,
him and it does include clips From trump. Himself uh why,
yeah you brought this up. Early we mentioned in the.
(40:52):
Rundown Does Lindsey graham know something we? Don't?
Speaker 2 (40:55):
YEAH i don't.
Speaker 1 (40:55):
Know, well you, know here's what we do. KNOW i,
mean the last couple of times that he's appeared at,
rallies At trump, rallies or, well the rally In pickens
back in twenty twenty, three at A trump, Rally graham
was roundly. Booed During trump's primary night speech In columbia
(41:15):
back last, Year trump was that, Is graham was roundly booed.
Speaker 2 (41:20):
Again, Yeah graham's not worried About. November graham's worried About.
February he's worried about, primary, right right.
Speaker 1 (41:29):
Exactly and that's a lot closer right. Too. Us, yeah
he's not worried About.
Speaker 2 (41:33):
November so he is doing everything he, CAN i guess
at this point to make it extremely unappealing for somebody
from his own party to go up against.
Speaker 1 (41:43):
Him seems to be the, tactic, RIGHT i can't give
any other reason to number, one For trump to roll
out of this endorsement so early, on and then for
a grand to be you, know not like he didn't
have a sizeable war. Chest he's got plenty of money.
Anyway so the primary season is already underway apparently for
(42:03):
that to That senate, seat you. Go it's always fun
to See Adam schiff have, to you, know. Squirm and
for the life of, me how was it Even california.
VOTERS i thought it was a good idea to, uh
to put him in The. Senate so y'all stuck With
adam shift for a. While. Now he was on with
(42:24):
A Kristen WELCOME nbc On meet The. Press surely he
thought it was gonna be a nice softball, interview but
he was, asked do you think That biden's advisors misslived
The american people about those? Capabilities?
Speaker 2 (42:42):
Squirm how could you not answer that when it FAIRLY
i mean fairly. Easily at this, point it sounds like
everyone's admitted.
Speaker 1 (42:50):
IT i, mean there are books out there with all
sorts of former aides talking about, how, yeah how bad
it was and that last year of his. Presidency but
you're not going to get shift to admit to. That
it's hard for me to gauge what the closest advisors
seeing the. TIME i can only speak to the INTERACTIONS
(43:11):
i had with, him and apparently he didn't if he saw,
it he didn't want to fess up to. It, yeah
we've seen an onslaught of claims here just recently in
the last couple of weeks about how bad things were
and about how they covered it up again and so
did the. Media by the, way so Did Kristen WELKOME.
Speaker 2 (43:32):
Nbc well think about it, though there's no there's nobody
left to get retribution if somebody you, know Crosses biden
at this point that you, know it's not Like hunter
is going to run for. Office it's not like The
biden family. INFLUENCES i, mean it's, over so you don't
(43:53):
have to worry about. It So democrats can be. Honest,
yeah and.
Speaker 1 (43:56):
By the, way what are the rest of The biden's
do for money? Now? Hmm just. Curious there will never
be Another. Halleen The World Meteorological association organization has retired
that name from the hurricane. Roster good. Idea milton also
(44:17):
get gets gets his jersey hung in The, rafters as Does. Burrel,
okay so there'll never be Another halleen and we're still
the table rock. FIRES i mean, yet, YEAH i know
that some Teenagers carols Was Sika, ratbots but you, know
all the downtimber in that area From helleen one of
(44:40):
the reasons why we had such a problem up, there
and again people still to this day that was what
Last August SEPTEMBER i, think so, yeah, Yeah, september, Yeah,
september Late. September people still reeling from that in the
mountains Of North carolina still and UH i got to
(45:02):
mention this a couple of examples of how ridiculous it
has Gotten, Portland, oregon you Know oregon that you, KNOW i,
mean it's it's it's pretty much taking the crown for
the most liberal spot In, america, right can we all
kind of, AGREE i don't, know it's it's it's it's
it's neck and. Neck but In, Portland, oregon at a high,
(45:23):
school excuse, me a girl's high school track meet a
guy by the name Of Liah rose Or Lea. Rose
that's a. Guy, yeah well doesn't think he is. Anymore but,
anyhow when's the the high jump beating out the second
(45:45):
place competed by a couple of. Inches so he's the
champion in The Portland Interscholastic League Varsity. Relays interestingly, enough,
well let's see in twenty twenty, three competing under the
name Of zachary in the boys, division he finished dead,
(46:07):
last dead, Last he finished first competing as a girl
in THE. Uk AND i don't know how the game
of pool itself, is you, know much of a biological,
difference but maybe it is in THE. Uk AND i
(46:31):
don't know who won this. YESTERDAY i didn't bother go
back and, look but they were holding the championship for
the Ultimate Pool Pro series. Event the winner will be,
well let's see, here, definitely and the women's champion will
be a male because the two competing for the championship
were both formally known as. Males, yeah but hats off
(46:57):
To nevada for joining the side of common. Sense Their
Interscholastic Activity association voted last week to adopt a new
gender eligibility policy that bans biological males who competing with.
Females makes perfect.
Speaker 2 (47:13):
Sense they're protecting women's sports, right and they're protecting word about.
Speaker 1 (47:19):
That what is so stinking hard about, that so there
you go with that. Update only, females only biological, females
will be allowed to compete in the female category throughout the.
State about, them good for, them
