Speaker 1 (00:00):
Right, Elicius right, hell Y Saint America and Jery Holland
for regious one nation hundred one invisible.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
And this is wrong.
Speaker 3 (00:20):
This is Columbia's Morning News with Gary David and Christopher
Thompson on one o three point five FM and five
sixty AM w VOC and.
Speaker 4 (00:30):
Good morning to you. It is sixteen minutes after six
o'clock and welcome to Tuesday, the twenty fourth day of
the month of June. And welcome to what will it
looks like be the hottest day of the year around here? Uh, yeah,
it's it's it's as hot as it was yesterday. Ratchet
up a little bit today, my friends. So they have
(00:51):
it one hundred hundred and one, maybe even one hundred
and two for an air temp today. Yikes. Nowhere near
our by the way in the Midlands. That was back
I think twenty twelve when we hit an airtip of
one hundred and thirteen in the month of June. I
think it was June twenty ninth that year. But yeah,
(01:14):
heathen takes values as high as one hundred and nine today. Yeah,
And if you haven't stepped out yet, don't expect to
step out and get it into relief. Yeah, it ain't
gonna have I don't know. I'm reading it's seventy six
here at the radio ranch. When I got in my
car this morning left the house, it was registering eighty
and that was like before four o'clock this morning, So
(01:36):
it didn't cool down much overnight.
Speaker 2 (01:38):
It did not, and your air conditioner has no chance
of keeping up with it. No, So if you're looking
for a relief, this is about the only time to
get it while the sun's down and.
Speaker 4 (01:49):
This will be it. Yeah, that gives yourself a bunch
of ice. Wrap yourself in ice packs and maybe that'll
help you out a little bit. And by the way,
they are keeping an eye on a tropical wave in
the Atlantic, about a forty percent chance it could develop
into something over the course of the next week, but
(02:10):
they're not expecting much out of this. If it gets
a name, it would be the first Atlantic hurricane of
twenty twenty five season. It would be either Andrea or Andrea.
I don't know how they say that one. It just depends.
So just something to keep an eye on it. We'll
know when it breaks out. We will know if it happens.
That's right, all right, run down big stories, hot topics
for this steamy Tuesday morning. Well, the governor's race is
(02:34):
underway officially, although again the filing period is not until
next March and the primary won't be until a little
less than a year from now. But Alan Wilson jumping
in making his announcement last night and a jam packed
and steam me. Speaking of hot places, Hudson Smokehouse over
in Lexington. So the longtime Attorney general is in. We
(02:55):
mentioned yesterday morning before we left the air, I'd got
an email that upsdate. Senator Josh Kimberl is also in.
He announced via email his official coming out party won't
be until Friday though up and I think an end
min is where they're holding that. So here we go
two of what will be It looks like at least
(03:18):
six who hope to succeed Henry McMaster have announced, of course,
Nancy Mace. No announcement from Masa's camp yet. Ralph Norman
expected to maybe announced sometime this week, but no news
on that yet either. Meantime, we have mentioned this a
week or two back. More questions, more speculation about Andre Bauer,
(03:42):
the former Lieutenant governor. Is he gearing up to try
to take on Lindsey Graham at A primary fundraising page
has been set up an andre Bauer for US Senate
fundraising page and the pages being paid for andre Bauer
for usn it Okay, I guess he is no announcement yet.
(04:05):
State newspaper seeking comment but no comment yet either.
Speaker 2 (04:08):
That would be quite a political comeback, wouldn't it be?
Huh wow?
Speaker 4 (04:15):
Okay? Well, I might see andre Bauer running for maybe
a house seat or something, but trying to take on
the deep pocket at Lindsay Graham will be a challenge, certainly.
Columbia City Council, it's Tuesday, so the meeting again and
on tap later on this afternoon. Actually this is a
specially called meeting. A second vote on the repeating the
(04:38):
conversion therapy bands will be following that. The City of
Casey making another hire the management post there, so a
new city manager has been hired. Michael Conley, who's been
serving as the deputy city manager, will take over that
top spot. This will be a third city manager in
a year for Casey. And the one no vote was
the mayor yes. And they continued to have this clash
(05:01):
of personalities across the river. Well see how this works out, huh.
As Thomas mentioned, I mean bad enough as it is.
But we talked about this a bit yesterday. A seven
year old hit with a bullet while at a soccer range,
a soccer complex, i should say, over on a sun
(05:21):
Belt boulevard near the Southeastern freight Line soccer center. Well,
it wasn't intentional, It doesn't sound like it sounds like
a cops think it came from an illegal shooting range
in a nearby area, so it's just a total accident. Meantime,
upstate Anderson County cops say an eighteen year old was
responsible for that deadly shooting on that Juneteenth celebration over
(05:44):
the weekend that left one person dead nine others wounded. Wow.
And in Charleston, activists there are upset with cops. I
think Jonathan Kelly might have talked about this a bit
in the last day or two on the Rashtop. But
organizers there who want to, you know, get out and
show their activism feel like they're being pushed aside and
not given high profile spots. And they think it's unconstitutional
(06:10):
for police to have to give them permission to demonstrate.
Just thoughts out of the constitution. It doesn't matter right meantime,
ceasefire and broken already, the President saying that last night
that that twelve day war between Israel and Iran was
set to end with a ceasefire. It was agreed to
(06:34):
by both parties after we were first told this. But
Israel already accusing Tehran of breaking that ceasefire with a
missile attack that killed a number of Israelis. So we'll
see where it goes from here. Meantime, the Iranians with
their saving face measure yesterday, a lot of reporting that
we were tipped off before this happened by the Tehran regime,
(06:57):
but they had to do something, right, so they shot
a couple of missiles towards our biggest military installation in
the Middle East in Cutter. Nobody was hurting. These things
were blown out of the sky by defense systems, so symbolic. Yeah,
that's what that looked like. And they can say they
did something, and of course the glorious images back home
(07:20):
for their citizens to show that they were taking it
to the United States, Uncle Sam the Great Satan Yeam. Now,
in light of attack on the nuclear facilities over the weekend,
officials telling us they don't really know the fate of
the Iranian uranium stockpile. New York Times with that story
(07:40):
the political angle Hakeem Jeffrey's demands that Trump justify this,
says there was we'd see no evidence to day. He
says that this was justified under the War Powers Act
or the Constitution. But he didn't have any comment about
well AOC and some others who want to impeach Trump
once again over this maintime back at home. Vam Bondi,
(08:02):
the Attorney General, saying that we are on a high
alert for Iranian nationals living illegally in this country and
Americans have been issued a worldwide travel warning after those strikes.
All right, we got that, We've got more, including a
big victory in the Supreme Court for Trump to talk about.
And there's an election today in New York City. Could
(08:25):
it put a socialist in the mayor's seat? Bat and
more coming up on this. It is the Tuesday morning
edition of Columbia's Morning News. Good to have you here,
your morning.
Speaker 5 (08:36):
News, getting ready for work and all day.
Speaker 2 (08:38):
In fault and check in throughout the day.
Speaker 3 (08:40):
One on three point five FM and five sixty am
w VOC. This is Columbia's Morning News. With Gary David
and Christopher Thompson on one on three point five FM
and five sixty AM w VOC.
Speaker 4 (08:57):
It is six forty one and good morning to you
for twodayday, June twenty fourth. I am Gary David, he
is Christopher Thompson. Good morning, and this is Columbia's Morning News.
Good morning to all. A lot of big stories happening.
Governor's race underway in South Carolina. Alan Wilson making the
announcement last night at a packed house over in Lexington
at Hudson Smoke House. Josh Kimberl will be in. He'll
(09:21):
be announced by an email yesterday. His event is coming
up Friday up in the Upstate. We'll be talking about
that a little bit later on The ceasefire broken already
ceasefire broker by Donald Trump. The President announced the lady
yesterday early last evening. And well, the Israelis already saying
(09:41):
the Iranians have broken said ceasefire. We'll see where things
go from here in the meantime. Pam Bondy, our nation's
Attorney General, in questioning yesterday during a House budget hearing
about Iranian nationals who entered this country illegally under the
prior administration. She was asked if she knew how many
(10:07):
Iranian nationals were here in the US, ones that had
been convicted of crimes. She says she was unsure what
that number might be, but that to more than a
thousand end of the country during the last administration, And
she says, and I can tell you we're on high
alert and everyone is looking at that very closely. So
(10:29):
the numbers, according to the Customs and Border Protection, the
border patrol arrested one thousand, five hundred and four Iranians
at the southern border during Biden's four years in office,
and that nearly half of them, seven hundred and twenty nine,
were released into the United States. Now, nobody's trying to
(10:53):
make a point that there are seven hundred and twenty
nine Iranian terrorists running around this country. But if you're
talking about seven hundred and twenty nine, what are the
odds that there aren't maybe just a couple, maybe more
than that. So her concerns about potential sleeper sales, which
(11:13):
we had heard that those same concerns from DHS when
an issue was noted notice was issue. I should say
on Sunday that the Iranian conflict is causing a heightened
threat environment in the US, and DHS citing the possibility
of extremists in this country independently mobilizing to violence if
(11:40):
the rulers in Tehran call for it. And again, not
just physical attacks, but cyber attacks a major concern. Okay,
the State Department issuing a worldwide caution alert for Americans
traveling abroad. The release noting the conflict between Israel and
(12:04):
Iran has resulted in disruptions to travel in periodic closers
of airspace in the Middle East. We saw more of
that in the last day or two. Certainly, there's a
potential for demonstrations against US citizens and interests abroad and
for travelers worldwide. US travelers to exercise increased caution, which
(12:25):
I'm sure you're probably already doing, you would hope. So yeah.
Speaker 2 (12:27):
I mean, you'd have to be asleep at the wheel
to not realize what's happening in the world right now. Hum.
Speaker 4 (12:33):
And it's not just going to be in the Middle East.
Speaker 2 (12:35):
It's going to if you're an American, you're exposed wherever
you go.
Speaker 4 (12:39):
Yeah. Oh, absolutely, Actually somewhere around here. I had that,
Oh yeah, I got it right here. Yeah. The actual
bulletin that was sent out by DHS citing low level
cyber attacks against US networks. Likely that cyber actor is
(13:01):
affiliated with the Iranian government may conduct attacks against US
network And this is this is the big concern right here.
If you ask me not to downplay you know, the
threat to human you know, safety and and even life.
But cyber attacks against infrastructure. We talked about this yesterday,
if I recall correctly. Yeah, you know again, these these
(13:24):
these bad actors know that that's the way to get
the biggest bang for your buck right there, right, You
don't even have to be here. You can do it
from anywhere. And if you want to make life miserable
or even dangerous for the greatest number of people, it's
through that method right there. Uh So, I mean, but
(13:52):
this again, this is something that you know, our government
was aware of before. And you know, what are you
going to do? You can't. Wow, we're afraid that this
might happen or that might happen, So let's just not
do anything that's not an option. Sleeper cells. Yeah, they
(14:16):
can certainly bring destruction and potentially death, but any sort
of a cyber attack sort of thing, again, this is
much more widespread and really a bigger issue. How successful
were these strikes. Well, New York Times reporting that, at
(14:37):
least according to their sources anonymous, of course, that we're
not really sure some of this uranium is something else
that we knew yesterday that there were satellite images of
convoys leaving that photo facility prior to those bunker busters
(14:58):
being brought to bear by the US military. Concerns of
a dirty bomb are real. Remember, a dirty bomb is
not something that's going to cause widespread devastation, physical devastation,
but it's going to spread widespread contamination, which for those
(15:24):
of us who breathe, that ain't good. No it's not.
But these are the things we've been living with for
decades now, right, Well, it just the fears that we're
always kind of simmering below the surface. Right it's just
brought to top of mind right now, and the odds
(15:45):
of it happening, certainly, you've got to think are are
increased with all this. But again, you can't just say, well,
we're concerned to this, so that might happen, So we're
just not gonna do anything. That's well, I was gonna say,
that's kind of the the the mo of the Democrat Party.
(16:07):
It seems like it's even worse. Well, the Democrat Barack Obama,
he just send some power loads of cash appeasement. At
some point in time, you got to say, you know, okay,
enough's enough, the red line's been crossed, and here we go.
Does this ceasefire hold again? As as the reporting is today,
(16:28):
Israel already says that the Aradians have broken that ceasefire.
Did it happen like the eleventh hour before the ceasefire
went to effect? Yeah, I think. And do we know
it was Iran that fired those missiles? Do we know?
Speaker 2 (16:40):
There are a lot of bad actors in the Middle
East who benefit from, you know, all this activity between
Israel and Iran. They don't want to see a seats fire.
They want to see the the up people continue.
Speaker 4 (16:50):
Oh yeah, these these these these terrorists Humas and Hezbolah.
So as long as she had all these groups, yeah,
they they benefit greatly from all this, and they've been
awfully quiet, at least publicly so far.
Speaker 3 (17:03):
One O three five at five sixty, w VOC online
a WVOC dot com on your phone with the iHeartRadio
app on hundreds of devices like Alexa, Google Home Xbox
and so noos and iHeartRadio station. You're listening to Columbia's
morning news on one oh three point five FM and
(17:24):
five sixty AM w VOC. Once again, here's Gary David
and Christopher Thompson.
Speaker 4 (17:29):
Hey, good morreing to you for Tuesday, June twenty fourth.
It's good to have you here seven point fifteen. I
am Gary David. That is Christopher Thompson Morner sir, Hey,
good morning to you again.
Speaker 5 (17:43):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (17:44):
Trump on his way to NATO meetings, the NATO summit,
on the way out of the door, announcing that both
Israel and Iran invited to the ceasefire. He's not happy
with that. We're following that story. More on that coming up.
And things like old college football, for example, it seems
(18:05):
like once a season ends, doesn't take long, maybe a
couple of days before you have your way too early
poll for the next season, right, true, somebody's got a
rush one out there, way too or I even call
it way too early. Well, let's look for the way
too early gubernatorial polls that start rolling out now here
in South Carolina. But we've had a couple of polls
(18:27):
here with of course the last two months they were
mainly name recognition polls. Right, well, the race is underway again,
the filing, the official You can't even file to run
for governor until next March, I guess it is. The
primary is a little less than a year away, and
we are in South Carolina. Don't forget. So, you know,
(18:48):
unless something really weird happens, whoever wins the Republican primary
next June will win the governor's seat next November, unless
something really, really really really weird happened. When was our
last Democratic governor nineteen ninety eight, Jim Hodges? Jim Hodges, right, yeah,
the lottery governor, the lottery guy where they called it
(19:10):
at the time, the education governor, I think hks. So
we have a two inn and probably at least at
least four more ago last night over at Hudson' smoke
house in Lexington, sorry state newspaper, Hudson smoke houses in Lexington,
not West Columbia, but whatever, Wilson, it was a packed
(19:35):
hot house. It was steamy. Jumping into the race. So
the first in person official announcement. We had mentioned yesterday
morning that we'd received an email from the Josh Kimberl
Folk announcing that he was also running for governor. His
(20:02):
in person launch won't be until this Friday up in
the Upstate, so tour in Wilson last night spent a
good deal of time. He didn't name names. He talked
about his background and in the in the military and
(20:23):
public service as Attorney general, as hopes and desires for governor,
which those talking points very closely mirrored the ones that
we mentioned yesterday that Josh Kimberl rolled out and we
said at the time, Josh Kimberl's platform so be it
is pretty much the platform that Indy and all Republican
(20:46):
Gubernatrol candids in the state will have a right. Wilson
talked about a doge dozing of state government, talked about
using artificial intelligence, talked about insportation DOT roads again at
a spot hotspot when it comes to road construction in
(21:09):
the Midland, certainly. But he also spent a lot of
time talking about his office, his current office, the Attorney
General's office, and the work that he and his office
have done when it comes to combating sex crimes. Again,
this something that Nancy Mace has repeatedly charged that he
(21:34):
and his office have not done a good job with
well the problem for Nancy Mace is is that it's
really easy for Alan Wilson. He's got the receipts. Okay,
from actual cases I didn't look at. I was told
that that Mace's response on her social media account was
(21:56):
something along the lines of, well, while Wilson is announcing
his run for governor, Trump is announcing a ceasefire and
called Wilson tone deaf for announcing that at the same whatever.
But that was that. Aside from that on though, we've
heard much from Mace, who told an interview a week
(22:19):
or so back that she might be forced to enter
this race. All right, there's a big problem right there
to start off with, when you say you might be
forced to enter the race. We don't want unwilling participants here, okay.
We want people who want to be governor have a plan. Okay.
So Wilson laid out his last night for Kimbrel. He's
(22:44):
calling it a Carolina celebration day coming up this Friday.
That'll be up an Enman again, very similar to the
platform to what Wilson rolled out last night. Kimber will
talk about modernizing state services, implementing universal school choice, something
(23:06):
else that Wilson mentioned Now, from a name recognition standpoint,
Kimber's got a bit of a hill to climb when
you say he's got he's in a second term, well
known in the Upstates certainly, but as far as the
rest of the state, he's gonna have some work to do.
(23:29):
But there's lots of time here. Okay, we got almost
it's almost a year now of campaigning every single day
for for for for anyone getting at Ralph Norman's going
to announce It sounds like could it be this week? Possibly?
(23:49):
There are other names being bandied about, Pam Pam of course, Pamvitt, Yes,
And I'm gonna guess. I don't know. Government Master does
just stay above the fray and all this, I would
think so. I wouldn't think he would prior to a
(24:11):
primary in Dorset, Canady. We could be wrong. He might.
He might meantime, more speculation and I don't know if
you can call it speculation now. I mean, he's got
a web page up andre Bauer for US Senate? Is
he getting ready to take on Lindsey Graham? Here? There
(24:35):
is a andre Bauer for US Senate fundraising page that's
been set up. This is on the Republican Party's online
campaign donation processing site, and it says right there the
page is being paid for by Andre Bauer for US Senate.
(24:57):
There's a new website under construction. Wow, okay, that will
be a tall task right there. Not not because South
Conians Lockstock and Barrel Lovelendsy Graham, because Lockstock and Barrel
south Conians don't, but the kind of money that Graham
(25:17):
has reportedly more than fifteen and a half million dollars
in cash on hand, and let's face it, he probably
won't have to spend much of that next November. If
he is forced to, he'll spend a big chunk of that,
you know, before next June. Graham has been endorsed by Trump,
(25:41):
but you know that could change too, That could definitely change.
You know, their relationship is on to get off again.
Speaker 2 (25:45):
And if you're Andre Bauer, I mean, how do you
explain where you've been recently? You know, obviously raising a
family that's important, But as far as contributions to the state,
what are you saying that I will.
Speaker 4 (25:59):
That I you know.
Speaker 2 (26:01):
That a kind of good questions driven away from South
Carolina politics and embarrassment a few years ago. And I'm
hoping people forgotten my last act.
Speaker 4 (26:10):
Don't let me remind you of it. Yeah, well we're
way too early, let me we're here away from the primary,
but it's gonna be hot and heavy between now and then. Friends.
Speaker 2 (26:19):
Celebrities who know not a darn thing other than you know,
singing and dancing on stage.
Speaker 3 (26:23):
Clay Travis and Buck Sexton one on three point five
FM and five sixty am w VOC. This is Columbia's
morning News with Gary David and Christopher Thompson on one
on three point five FM and five sixty am w VOC.
Speaker 4 (26:42):
Good morning, got a seven forty And just in case
you missed what Teler just said, he didn't EXPI use
today what portsup? One hundred and nine? Now beautiful? All right?
Uh this afternoon especially called meeting Columbia City Council three
o'clock today a second vote, second reading on whether or
(27:06):
not the city will repeal the conversion therapy ban. Remember
the last Tuesday, after twice meeting saying they would vote
on this and then twice not doing it, they finally
got around to it. It was a four to three
vote on that first reading. Now, if there's a similar
(27:29):
rot come today, that band will be fully repealed. Did
you happen to see mister Thompson what was his name,
the guy that writes opinion pieces now at the state paper,
Matthew T. Hall, Right, Apparently he did an opinion piece
on this, I guess after this first vote, and he
(27:50):
specifically called out one of the council members who he
thought might decide to flip his vote the other way.
I kept. Apparently Matthew T. Hall in the State paper
don't want this thing to repeal.
Speaker 2 (28:01):
Not only called him out but started a personal mailing
campaign for it.
Speaker 4 (28:05):
Yeah, ask readers to personally email this council person to
try to get him to flip his vote on this.
And then another member said, wait a minute, Yeah, you're
you're basically threatening this guy. This is a hot button
issue here and you could be putting him in danger
(28:25):
with this. Wow, this thing's got out of control here.
Interestingly enough, two names we just talked about in the
last segment, you know, pop up again in the story,
of course. And it was the Attorney General Alan Wilson
who first said this was unconstitutional, and then it was
Josh Kimberl who initiated this proviso over the State House.
(28:50):
It would withhold three point seven million dollars in funding
from the city if they don't repeal this band both
announced to cannabis for governor. I don't know if there's
any reason why any council member who but the way
they did a week ago would change their.
Speaker 2 (29:08):
Vote today unless they heard from their constituents and decided, okay,
this is a majority of my constituents feel so strongly
that I should change my vote.
Speaker 4 (29:21):
But you know, here's the problem with that. Right, an
issue like this, it's like everything else. It's like, Okay,
if you have a business, for example, you're probably going
to see more comments on social media negative comments about
your business than positive. Right, because people who have a
negative impact, are negatively impacted by something, are much more
(29:43):
likely to go online or go out to neighbors or whatever,
go to the tallest mountain and complain about it. People
were happy with it, you know, they don't think twice
about it. And I assume that anybody in politics is
aware of that. That you're going to hear from the haters,
the naysayers in droves. That doesn't mean that the majority
(30:04):
of your constituents feel that way. So we'll see three
o'clock this afternoon, especially called me and want to put
this thing to bed. Now, New York City. I wanted
to mention this this morning because something really crazy could
happen there. Well, probably something crazy is gonna happen anyway,
(30:27):
because the next mayor of New York City is this
is going to be somebody that probably the majority of
people don't.
Speaker 2 (30:32):
Want, and they also inherit a big mess exactly, yes,
But they're doing the rank choice voting thing in New
York City.
Speaker 4 (30:43):
Another reason to stay far away from this concept. The
two leading candidates Andrew Cuomo, the former disgraced governor, a
New York Assembly and a Democrat. But I am of
zo Ran Mamdani ma'mdanni a.
Speaker 2 (31:06):
Socialist, democrat, socialist yeah, get it right, Oh, democrat, socialist yes,
Oh I see.
Speaker 5 (31:14):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (31:14):
Apparently there's a distinct's very distinction. Yeah. I think Bernie
Sanders has made that distinction before. We know he's not
a Democrat, though you can't make that distinction. He's an
independent social.
Speaker 2 (31:24):
Well, I think it's democrat, a democrat. I think it's democratic.
Socialist is how they describe themselves. Oh I see, yeah,
there's a oh okay, oh okay. So for in other words, like,
for example, this is it's not the Democrat Party, it's
a democratic socialist Okay, yeah.
Speaker 4 (31:39):
All right, and that's different from socialism. In what way
did they bother to explain that?
Speaker 2 (31:45):
Well, they they say they're you know, they're more feeling
towards I think that's the bottom line is in simple terms,
they describe themselves as you know, they want everyone to
be happy.
Speaker 4 (31:56):
Okay. Well, I might bring up at this point in
time that a guy by the name of Julian Gerson,
who is the political director for the Democrat Socialist Zorn Mandani.
In a Facebook page back in late December, Mandani's political
(32:18):
director linked to an opinion piece and wrote that Luigi
Mangioni is adored. Well, that was the post. This Democrat
Socialist political director responded to a comment and said he
was looking forward to driving down Mangioni Avenue a few
(32:40):
decades from now. That's horrible. Can you believe these people
he has adored? This guy says not only because he
dared to target a leader of one of the most
vile self enriching industries darkening our society today, but because
(33:02):
he dared to defy the stasis of nihilistic reject Okay.
See you can use big words like that, you've lost people. Okay. Wow, okay,
So this is the political director of this. So I'm scart.
I'm sorry. Democrat socialist who, according to a poll yesterday,
(33:23):
might win this thing.
Speaker 2 (33:25):
Yeah, my TV system, we've got New York channels, and
I was watching a New York channel the other day
and his entire campaign ad it was sixty seconds of
AOC campaigning giving a campaign speech for him. You didn't
see him until the very end. Wow, it's I mean,
he's hanging his entire hopes on her apparently.
Speaker 1 (33:48):
Wow.
Speaker 4 (33:50):
When it comes to raw vodes, Cuomo is leading. And
that's not saying a lot right there.
Speaker 2 (33:55):
Right, Well, you would think name recognition alone he would
have a huge advantage, right, But.
Speaker 4 (34:00):
Because of the way they're doing this thing with this,
you know, ranked choice voting, the last pull out shows that. Yeah, mom, Donnie,
the social I'm sorry, I had to get used to
this concept. Here, the democratic socialist will be Cuomo. Wow.
Speaker 2 (34:21):
Democratic socialists want everyone to flourish, not just survive. Capitalism
rewards too few at the expense of too many.
Speaker 4 (34:31):
Well, when you show us a way that everybody can flourish.
Let us know, okay, because so far, y'all you've been
able to pull that one off.
Speaker 3 (34:40):
You're listening to Columbia's Morning News on one oh three
point five FM and five sixty AM WVOC. Once again,
here's Gary David and Christopher Thompson.
Speaker 6 (34:51):
When I say, okay, now you have twelve hours. You
don't go out in the first hour. It just drop
everything you have on them. So I'm not happy with them.
I'm not happy with Iron either, But I'm really unhappy
if Israel's going out this morning because the one rocket
that didn't land, that was shot perhaps by mistake, that
didn't land, I'm not happy about that.
Speaker 4 (35:11):
It is age sixteen and uh yeah, stopped me. If
you've heard this story before, right, when's the last time
we had a ceasefire that actually stayed at ceasefire for
very long at all? Well, this one hasn't. And Trump isn't,
as you can tell, not happy. Did he drop the
F bomb? And that clip that there? I thought, Yeah,
(35:33):
fortunately they beat it out of they got in us
some big trouble over here. Okay, So you know yesterday
Trump announcing the ceasefire and hostilities they completed in total ceasefire.
The Iranians said they would stop if Israel would Israel
(35:54):
Vin said, okay, they'll stop. But it didn't last long
did It started off with is early this morning our time,
accusing uh Tehran of breaking the ceasefire, and now apparently
Israel has shut off a few things as well. So okay,
(36:16):
you gotta think that Trump's savvy enough. He's been around
long enough to know how these things work. They just
this is just part of the course, right.
Speaker 2 (36:27):
Well, it's it's been a long time in the making.
It's I mean, the magic in which he seemingly snapped
his fingers and created that ceasefire last night seemed a
little too good to be true.
Speaker 5 (36:40):
Yeah, did.
Speaker 4 (36:42):
You you wish it would be true? But it did?
Speaker 5 (36:45):
You know.
Speaker 4 (36:46):
I go back to conversation we had last week, mister Thompson,
and maybe we're starting to see the well, even do
we even know whether or not we have been successful
and keeping the Iranians from developing a nuclear weapon? The
(37:07):
New York Times writing that Trump officials couldn't see They
don't know the fate of the uranium stockpile. Did they
move it out of there? We saw those Sella images
of this convoys prior to that attack at Fodro do
we even know? But you know, the conversation we had
(37:29):
last week was, you know, how many times have we
seen this play out? Before hostilities ramp up, things happen,
looks like things are going to change, and then suddenly it's,
you know, same as it ever was.
Speaker 2 (37:47):
Yeah, it is the Middle East, after all, it's there's
never been peace for very long. And if it's there's
peace in one corner, then there's likely war going on
in the other corner.
Speaker 4 (38:00):
At the very least. You hope, you hope the world
should be hoping. I hope that the actions that Trump
took over the weekend have crippled Iran's ability to put
a nuclear weapon on top of a missile.
Speaker 2 (38:21):
We don't know how close they were as far as
you know, when it comes to the uranium that they
were enriching.
Speaker 4 (38:28):
No, we don't.
Speaker 2 (38:29):
I mean, we know what the regulatory agency was telling
us that they were cheating then, but we don't know
how close they've gotten since then.
Speaker 4 (38:39):
And we have a Democrat Party, the House Minority leader
on Keem Jeffries kind of trying to make the case
of the the war in Iraq with the George H. W. Bush.
You know that we went in we said, you know,
Saddam Hussein was doing this and doing that, and you
know had this and had that, and you know it
was it was Remember that was the war for oil.
(39:02):
That was the cry from the left, and now Democrats
started trying to make the case. So, yeah, we have
no proof that they were close to You know what,
if you ask me, I don't care how close they were,
the fact that if not, if not stopped, they would
have gotten there at some point in time. Yeah, it's
(39:24):
I think. I think our Secretary of State Marco Rubio
said that the other night. You know that they're not.
Speaker 2 (39:29):
If you're that close, you're not trying to heat in
cool homes, You're not using that nuclear energy for good things.
Speaker 4 (39:37):
You're not.
Speaker 2 (39:37):
Yeah, no, this is all this is all about bad
things at this point, once you get to that level
of uranium in Richmond, and the whole.
Speaker 4 (39:44):
World knows that these are, you know, just just off
the rock of religious zealots who feel like they're justified
in doing anything. They've been attacking US personnel interests for
the last forty years. I don't care how close they were.
It needed to be stopped. Well, then yesterday the yeah,
(40:08):
I think it was. I agree that it was a
symbolic attack on that US base, our biggest military installation
in the Middle East. In cutter word, it is is
that they actually told us they were going to do
it so we could be prepared. And it wasn't much
of an attack actually, But you know, they had to
play to the folks back home, right, I RANI the
(40:31):
state TV at whatever's left of it had to be
able to show these missiles taking off as they retaliated
against a United States base. They didn't really want to
have to do that. Yeah, it was it was nothing,
that was it. It was symbolic. Okay, So they got
that out of the way. Nobody hurt, no harm done,
(40:52):
all those missiles taken down without an issue. Is that
going to be it for us? Or are we worried
about what might happen here in this country? Lots of
warnings up, lots of red flags up, lots of folks concerned,
as we talked about earlier about potential sleeper cells here
in this country, about the possibility of cyber attacks. They
(41:17):
are very good at that. And again, let's not forget
as the numbers show from the Customs of Water Protection Agency.
During Joe Biden's four years in office, one thousand, five
hundred and four Iranian nationals entered this country, or at
least were arrested. Who knows how many actually in it?
(41:39):
That's always always, you know, puzzles me about these numbers. Yeah,
one thousand, five hundred and four were apprehended. How many
got aways? But of those fifteen hundred and four, Joe
Biden allowed seven hundred and twenty nine of them to
leave it tension and feel free to own about the country. Okay,
(42:05):
this is not you know, Venezuela or Honduras, or Guatemala
or Cuba. This is Iran.
Speaker 2 (42:18):
People who live their entire lives with one thought in mind,
death to America.
Speaker 4 (42:23):
Death to America, a great satan. And the Biden administration
let over seven hundred of them out of captivity and
just said, hey, show up for a court date. Who
knows how many years down the road. Those are the
concerns right there, all right, So rocket fire exchange between
(42:45):
the two sides, the ceasefire broken. Trump is not happy.
Will it take effect again? Will the pause remain or
will the hostilities again renew?
Speaker 2 (42:56):
And it sounds like he numbers. He thinks he's gotten
Israel to walk things back. So we'll see, we'll see.
Speaker 4 (43:01):
It's this stuff people are talking about and called.
Speaker 6 (43:05):
Them out like a band evan like you're doing right now.
Speaker 3 (43:07):
One on three point five FM and five sixty am
w VOC. This is Columbia's Morning News with Gary David
and Christopher Thompson on one on three point five FM
and five sixty am double VOC.
Speaker 4 (43:24):
Alrighty, just about eight forty two here on a Tuesday morning,
and dog Hanat is creeping up on us in a hurry.
July fourth, a week from this Friday. Yeah, here we
go again, and that we're joined as we always are
about this time of the year, by the Associate Pastor
and the Minister of Music over at Columbia's first Baptist Church.
(43:45):
It is our friends Dve Phillips in the house.
Speaker 5 (43:48):
Morn Oh, well, good morning. It's always good to see
you Gary, and thanks for thanks for having.
Speaker 4 (43:53):
Me this morning. Always a pleasure to have you here.
You know, I'm just I'm thinking about this here because
these are you get ready put on the annual Celebration
of Liberty. Right. This is not somebody that comes together
just like that. It's a big, massive production. Yes, you
must spend all year year, you know, outside to get
music ready for Sunday morning, working on these massive productions
(44:14):
you put on them.
Speaker 5 (44:15):
You have it, Yeah, you have other you do have
things that take time when you're coming into something like this.
But we have a lot of great help and a
lot of great folks, volunteers, staff, everything else that just
really help. And so but it takes work. I liking
it to cutting your grass. You know what to do,
you know how to do it. But she'll got a
(44:35):
rope sleeves and go out there and do it. Not today,
hopefully not. But no, no, I wouldn't suggest it today.
All right, it is Columbia today, Yes it is. So
it's time again. Thirty eighth annual thirty eighth Annual Carolina
Celebration of Liberty.
Speaker 4 (44:52):
How much is this thing grown over thirty eight years?
Speaker 5 (44:54):
Man, Well, the folks seem to appreciate it. We have
great crowd each year, and that we do it at
three and six thirty. This year the tickets are almost
gone for three and still some tickets for six thirty.
And the thing about six thirty is it's going to
last about an hour or in fifteen minutes. So they're
out at seven forty five, you've got another hour and
(45:16):
a half of day life. And so it's not like
you know, somebody says, well, I can't drive at night.
Because we call all veterans, this is really important for them,
those presently serving, we recognize them, and also we'll recognize
and honor our first responders. And so it's just a great,
great opportunity to do that, and.
Speaker 4 (45:34):
We should qualify too. And you say tickets, tickets.
Speaker 5 (45:36):
Are tickets are free, but that's the only way you
can assure. You don't want everybody coming at the at
three o'clock and nobody can get and they can't get in.
So we do free tickets. We must have a ticket then,
and they can get those by calling two one seven
thirty two fifty, which is the ticket office, which would
be open in just a few minutes, or they can
go to Liberty at first dot com or go to
(45:57):
our website First Baptist Church. All that will direct them.
You can get tickets online or you may get them
in person.
Speaker 4 (46:04):
Either way. So typically just as a heads up for
future reference, both for this and for the Christmas Shore
right put on. How far out from the performances do
tickets go on free sale?
Speaker 5 (46:17):
We used to do them for about five weeks. Now
we sort of condensed that time a little bit. I
think we put them on out there for people to
get starting like June the eighth this year, so that's
not too long.
Speaker 4 (46:29):
But yet it's heads up for us because you mus
have you and I talk that.
Speaker 5 (46:32):
That's exactly right. That's exactly right, and the same thing
will be it at Christmas about about a month out.
They need to look for those tickets to become available.
Speaker 4 (46:41):
All right, Do you give us a rundown of what
to expect this year?
Speaker 5 (46:44):
Okay, it's a celebration, a flag waving time. We'll have
a parade, Cocky, you'll be there for the parade. We'll
have soldiers from Fort Jackson. We'll have all sorts of
things going on there, and we'll have a cast of hundreds.
We have indoor fireworks. Flags everywhere. We're waving. Thankful to
be an American and to live in the greatest land
of all, in a nation blessed with the very best.
(47:05):
I will stand with my head up talk. I am
thankful to be an American, to be part of the
land that's free. I am thankful to God for allowing
me to be an American. And so those are the
those are some of the words one of the first songs.
And it's pretty neat. You have all the screens going
with the pictures. You have the people there live, well,
have the Founding fathers there, that's amazing. That's always.
Speaker 4 (47:27):
Fathers.
Speaker 5 (47:28):
It is always come back, and that's quite quite the feat.
But the Founding Fathers will be there. And it's just
a it's just a grand time to be thankful for
the country that we have. Yes, here in America, it
may not be perfect, which it's not, but yet we
still there are many places in the world you and
I couldn't be in a radio station like this doing
(47:50):
an interview like this, and so we ought to be
thankful for even the expressions we can give of descent
or whatever we do or don't do, we're still free.
And so that's freedom. And that freedom was paid for
at a price. I heard Mike hookerb Bee speaking at
a prayer breakfast in Jerusalem just a couple of days ago,
and he said the He said the British had cannons,
(48:11):
they had had beautiful red uniforms which were easy to
a spot to shoot at, he said. They so they
had a magnificent army everything, but we had a bunch
of ragtag people with muskets. But they had the will
and they wanted freedom of religion, and they wanted freedom
from a tyrant. And that's that's the revolution, and that's
(48:31):
how it came about.
Speaker 4 (48:32):
You know this, this is this celebration you have, and
it's so different from anything else going on this time
of the year. I mean, typically July four celebrations. You
shoot off with fireworks and they're spectacular and it's a
lot of fun, right, But you don't get the rest
of the story.
Speaker 5 (48:45):
Right, That's correct. And we we you know, firmly believe
from all the writings of the Founding fathers. And in fact,
Newsweek magazine had an article years ago saying that the
Founding Fathers were very influenced by the Bible uh in
in the all of the founding of our country. And
so that's just undeniable and and and we we we
(49:08):
tell the the true story of how this country was founded.
Speaker 4 (49:11):
There you go, all rights, this Sunday.
Speaker 5 (49:13):
This Sunday. Now listen, you've been before, HM, So you
tell us is it worth? Is it worth the while?
Speaker 4 (49:19):
Uh? I would say, yes, it's fabulous pull that off
every year. It's it's it's it's it's quite the undertaking,
and it's a it's it's it's just it's just quite
gratifying to the experience that. Yes.
Speaker 5 (49:32):
So it's this Sunday, the twenty ninth, June twenty ninth,
at three o'clock and at six thirty. And I would
urge them to go get there, get their tickets today
they're free. We want folks to come and just be
blessed by this time together. Especially, I would ask any
first responders, veterans, those presently serving. We recognize, we honor you,
families that have lost loved ones, We remember those, and
(49:53):
we have a poignant song and have the folded flag
and present the wreath. And so it's just a it's
just a real uh real, it's it's a fun celebration,
but yet it's a powerful time also.
Speaker 4 (50:04):
Yeah, it is. So I think it will be the
easiest thing to do. Go to Liberty at first dot com.
Speaker 5 (50:07):
That's right, Liberty at first dot com, or go to
two one seven thirty two fifty two one seven thirty
two fifty easy to remember. I've memorized it. And then
the other place they can go is is they can
go to our church website and that will direct them
to any of these places.
Speaker 4 (50:23):
All right, seeve good to see everybody say a break
a lake. We just had hip or place.
Speaker 5 (50:26):
I won't say breakup place, so we don't want to
break anything.
Speaker 4 (50:30):
Good to see it against
