Speaker 1 (00:01):
Ellesus right. Hell yeah, America and for re fination.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
And this is wrong. This is Columbia's Morning News with
Gary David and Christopher Thompson on one O three point
five FM and five sixty AM w VOC.
Speaker 1 (00:29):
I wan tell you welcome in. It's Tuesday, August the fifth,
sixteen minutes after six o'clock, and it's good to have
you here on a day that's going to bring us
toil to mention some more rain and it can be
heavy at times. We are water logged right now. That's
the problem because you get really I guess some heavy
downpours and the ground's already saturated. There could be some
(00:50):
uh you know, some potential flooding in a few spots.
So it heads up on that today. Prepare yourselves for it,
be ready for it.
Speaker 3 (00:56):
Okay, we've had our fair share, we certainly have, have
we not? And it just seems to come in waves.
Yeah you know, yeah, I mean we go through these
periods where it's just dry and hot and dry, and
now it's just you know, it's the system has parked
right over our heads.
Speaker 1 (01:11):
Yeah, it'll go away here and then oh the hot
stuff will be back. Oh oh, I'm sure Oh yeah,
he'll be back for you long. All right, we're up
at adam. Uh. I'm gonna ahead and mention this now
and get it out of the way, because you know,
every time I do this, I mentioned it because I
think it's important. Uh And and for some of you
maybe why it's a little too much information Gary, But
(01:35):
I'm I'm on my Uh I'm having to fast today.
Oh crap, right, whoops?
Speaker 3 (01:41):
Sorry, not literally, but uh so you're out tomorrow about tomorrow, Okay,
I'm glad you reminded me.
Speaker 1 (01:48):
Oh yes, yeah, tomorrow's colon oscarby day. Okay. Now, I'm
a I can go for a long time without eating.
I used to do it all the time. It's not hell,
I know. But but when you tell me I can't eat,
that's a whole other, whole other story right there. Right,
(02:09):
I'm drinking black coffee with some sugar in it today,
which I'd never put sugar in anything anymore, but I'm
having to do it today because anyway, So if I
IF I, if I, if I zone out at times,
it's because I'm I'm gravelously. Uh. Anyhow, just if you
tell me I can't eat that I have problems but
if you are anywhere close to my age and you've
(02:30):
not had a colonoscopy, do it. I've done maney five years.
Meet your family.
Speaker 3 (02:36):
Yeah, okay, way to if I'm off tomorrow, I'm glad
you said that.
Speaker 1 (02:42):
It's just bad time. I was off all last week
and I got take tomor off to I apologize. But
that's the way it is, all right. Run down craps
were choice of words there. Sorry, that's for later on today.
All right, run down, big stories, hot topics. The Nancy
into the race, we'll be talking about that, certainly, saying
(03:04):
she's Trump and high heel see her whole her whole
campaign is gonna be based on I'm Donald Trump, the
female version. Okay, you can bet on that.
Speaker 3 (03:12):
When of the things she's hoping you forget is the
fact that she and Trump broke.
Speaker 1 (03:16):
Up for a while. Yes, and there's a few other
things she'd like you to forget too, uh. And we'll
get to all of that. But saying that people are
fed up, we don't need another empty suit. I mean,
she's just Dancy. Mace's campaign is all gonna be about
just saying whatever she can about other other competitors and
and even those who have been in the seat already.
(03:40):
So we've got reaction from the other candidates that are
already in the race. A matter of fact, it didn't
take long yesterday morning out of Wilson's campaign putting out
a statement saying that she can't be trusted, lying, flip
flopping and supporting soft on crime judges was the headline
of that statement. So we'll get in all that this morning.
Speaker 3 (03:59):
Oh you said, others who have held that seat. You
do you know we were speculating that empty suit reference
was to Henry McMaster.
Speaker 1 (04:06):
Do you think it was to NICKI Haley? Well, could
have been. I mean, basically, I guess any any prior governor,
you know, as far as Mace is concerned, because I
don't think she and Haley are on good terms either. No,
I don't believe they are. Meantime, a resignation calls continued,
a mount for Matt Leeber, the Senator from the Low
Country over Jonathan Kelly mentioned this in the Rational yesterday,
(04:31):
the allegations of an extra marrial affair with a political consultant,
a guy who you know got there by saying talking
about family values and all that. So a growing course
for him to resign his state Senate seat.
Speaker 3 (04:45):
I think, I think only in politics would you see
a story like that and.
Speaker 1 (04:52):
The reaction.
Speaker 3 (04:53):
The wife's point of view is okay, you know what,
I'm going to blast this all over social media. I mean,
who else would do that? You're right, I mean you're
usually trying to keep something like that quiet.
Speaker 1 (05:07):
You know, maybe you share it with family.
Speaker 3 (05:08):
Members, but that's a political family at play. Yeah, yeah,
used to being in the spotlight. I guess I suppose
not for me, buddy. R J may meantime, claiming that
the Freedom Caucus and his former allies in the Freedom
Caucus owe him thousands of dollars. Okay, we'll have to
(05:29):
look into that and see why a deputy assaulted body
slam trying to break up a fight at the Village
at sand Hill outside of the Regal Cinemas. We learned
this yesterday.
Speaker 1 (05:39):
This has been a problem spot, a big fight and
a deputy, a female deputy, Ambryo wool Ever, attempting to
break it up. Sixteen year old body slamming her to
the pavement, concussion, some other injuries. She's been released from
the hospital. She'll be okay. But that area has been
a problem spot now for a while, and Leon Loott
(05:59):
knows there have been gosh, what how many incidents over
that way. They've got curfews and effect and everything else.
But still forty four times this year a lot says
his deputies have responded to that area forty four times.
Speaker 3 (06:20):
That was supposed to August. That was supposed to be,
you know, a huge draw for the Midlands. The village
at Sandhills from the build out on has been a fiasco,
it really has. And now because of you know, closed
stores and you know, unfinished and unlived in apartments, you
(06:41):
have a lot of areas for crime out there and
people are taking advantage.
Speaker 1 (06:44):
Are in fact good news here and a well deserved
The Navy is honoring Kyle Carpenter. You remember Kyle Carpenter,
sure the election and native who threw himself on a
hand grenade in Afghanistan to save a fellow marine. Has
suffered horrific injuries but survived. He's got now a guided
(07:05):
missile class destroyer named after him. The USS Kyle Carpenter
win the Medal of Honor. Yes, yes, yes, he did
deserbedly so. Meantime, the whole Texas thing still was swirling
around here as Democrats fled the state. As you know,
the governor Greg g Abbott now ordering the arrest of
these a wall Dems k threatening to remove them actually
(07:30):
from the legislature. So now Gavin Newsom says he'll retaliate, retaliate,
so does Kathy Hogle, both California and New York now
saying that Texas goes through this plan to basically add
five more GOP seats, they'll do the same in their
states to add more Democrats seats. So for Dad playing out,
(07:50):
the DOJ reportedly launching a grand jury investigation into Russia Gate,
and the players from the Obama administration, and uh well,
Democrats not real happy with their party these days. New
poll shows they're week at ineffective. There's some of the
associated press. It's uh, it's weird times for them. And
(08:12):
a nuclear reactor on the Moon. I saw this. I
thought it was a joke, but it's not. Yeah, Sean Duffy,
Transportation secretary, talking about that. Plans to build a nuclear
reactor on the moon sounds weird. Why would we do that?
We'll talk about that more coming up here on this.
It is the Tuesday edition of Columbia's morning news, and
(08:34):
it is good to have you with us.
Speaker 2 (08:36):
Luxington Orthopedics and Sports Medicine brings you up best game
Cock coverage this fall on one O three point five
FM and five sixty am Double u VOC. This is
Columbia's Morning News with Gary David and Christopher Thompson on
one O three point five FM and five sixty am
(08:57):
Double VOC.
Speaker 1 (08:59):
I support the press president in his agenda and I
want borders to know that.
Speaker 3 (09:02):
I support him and as governor, I will support his
agenda all across the state of South Carolina.
Speaker 1 (09:07):
It is six forty one. Good morning for Tuesday, August
the fifth. Nancy Mace, after she made her in person
announcement at the Citadel yesterday, Trump and high heels, how
she referred to herself as Trump and high heels. This
is going to be very much. This will be a
campaign that will be well. It'll be hard to distinguish
(09:28):
itself from a Donald Trump campaign quite honestly, more than likely. Mace,
who is before she officially got in, has spent time
disparaging a lot of folks, you know, other competitors in
this in this primary race for the Republican no nomination,
for governor again in the last week or so, talking
(09:52):
about how, in her opinions, South kind has become woke
in the last couple of years under Governor of Master's leadership,
talking about we don't need another empty suit at the
governor's mansion. Wow. Okay, so she's taking no prisoners, is Mace,
which is kind of what you'd expect right now some
(10:16):
reaction from others in the race, Pamela Evitt's campaign released
a statement saying that Evatt was the only candidate who
has stood by President Trump since day one and never wavered.
I remember Mace has been on again, off again, on
(10:37):
again with Trump.
Speaker 3 (10:38):
Well, to be fair, it was over one issue which
I think a lot of people probably felt uncomfortable with
Donald Trump over, and that was that was January sixth.
Speaker 1 (10:49):
It was that. It was also though there's some woke
stuff in there too, and we'll get to it. Evatt's
statement saying that she's the only person in this race
who have a proven record of results from the executive branch,
fighting every day alongside Governor McMaster to grow economy, stop
illegal immigration, and keep woke agendas out of our state. Okay,
(11:11):
that was the response from the Evatt campaign. Ralph Norman
just posting on x that Nancy Mason and I are
friends now, will be friends after this, welcome her into
the racie on the campaign trail. No reaction from Josh Kimberl,
who's got his own set of problems right now with
this lawsuit. And and didn't he make some kind of
(11:36):
a comment. Did I see he made some sort of
a comment or had a press conference while I was out.
I'm trying to remember. I don't think so. Maybe not so.
The Kimberl camp has been pretty quiet since the this
this news of this lawsuit against him by a business
business associate went public. Also got a statement from the
(11:57):
state Democrat Party. Uh. They put out a statement reading, Uh,
the clown car is officially full. That's pretty good. Yeah,
it is added to it without With Nancy Mays joining
the race, the SEGOP goubernatorial primary has become a chaotic
contest of extremism, self promotion, and out of touch priorities. Okay,
(12:23):
that from the party that so far doesn't have any
of their members announcing a candidacy to run for governor.
Speaker 3 (12:30):
Who would they pick? I boot the sacrificial lands, don't.
Speaker 1 (12:35):
You you have to write. You have to have one,
don't you. I mean, come on. Maybe Some of the
more pointed and heated comments came from the Allan Wilson campaign.
Remember early on Nancy May so you go back to January.
It was January. It wasn't when she came out on
the floor of the house going after her ex fiance
(12:57):
and his friends, and also after Alan Wilson. Those friends,
by the way, still have lawsuits again, they still do. Yes,
The Wilson campaign releasing a statement saying that Mace recently
started claiming to be a conservative champion, but her record
tells a different story, betrayal, flip flops, support for soft
(13:20):
on crime judges, and saying again this morning Mace lied
about Wilson. The truth is Alan Wilson has no control
over judge's sentences. She made comments about Wilson being soft
on crime. The statement says that's the job of the judiciary,
and during her time in the legislature, Mace had ample
(13:41):
opportunity to oppose candidates who are not tough on crime,
yet supported and voted to elect notorious soft on crime
judge Bentley Price, who repeatedly gave child predators domestic batterers
and attempted murderers, unexplainably light sentences. So this is a
statement there was no depth and been sitting there written
(14:03):
weeks or not months ago, just waiting for the time
to put it out. The statement also bringing up the
support for the transgender agenda, which Mays at one time
since she was pro LGBTQ, and also bringing up the
fact that the mace went along with the impeachment of Trump.
(14:28):
So uh, yeah, it got a reaction. It's gotten a
lot of national media play, certainly more so than any
other member who is in this race right now, because
of you know, Nancy Mason has got a national media profile.
That's her advantage. Now.
Speaker 3 (14:45):
Of course people across the country can't vote, but people
in South Carolina who see her on Fox News every
week may be impacted by that. So yeah, that's that's
her advantage. She's going to keep playing that, yeah, and
no doubt she will. So well, what did she say yesterday?
Well we'll be talking about that a little bit later on.
But uh, but as I started the segment off, I mean,
(15:06):
what you're gonna see. You take a typical Donald Trump campaign,
and you're gonna see it here in South Carolina. It's
just that the person running for offices not Donald Trump,
but his Nancy Amazing, I believe, if I'm not mistaken,
she came right out of so I recalled yesterday and
basically begged Trump for endorsement.
Speaker 1 (15:26):
No, I don't think it's so many workings.
Speaker 3 (15:28):
I mean, if anybody in the race has the Trump credentials,
I mean she was first on board.
Speaker 1 (15:34):
She was don't forget. I mean she she helped his
first campaign in twenty sixteen. She helped create Donald Trump
here in South Carolina. She did. So, uh, yeah, you're
gonna need a couple of big buckets of butter popcorn
for this one, buddy. Well, it's gonna be Yeah, it's
gonna be a show. And considering it's it's just August
and we this is gonna this is gonna go on
(15:56):
until the June what is it, ninth, whatever day it is,
and more than likely again just based on the polling
data we've seen so far, I mean, your top two
or Mason Wilson in most of the polls, and they
only been a couple that was one that had Mace
up by one point, but the others have Wilson up
in one poll by a number of points. You kind
(16:19):
of look at this right now, and if the election
were held today, there'd be a runoff the primary, I
should say. So this is going to be a very
heated contestant race. As the Democrats called it, a full
cloud car.
Speaker 2 (16:37):
Okay, you're listening to Columbia's Morning News on one oh
three point five FM and five sixty am WVOC. Once again,
here's Gary David and Christopher Thompson.
Speaker 1 (16:51):
It is wonderful to have you on board on a
Tuesday morning, the fifth of August, at sixteen minutes after
seven o'clock. I'm Gary David. He is Christopher Thompson, if
you or you, and we're happy to have you with us.
Thankful for you tuning in every day. You do tune
in every day, right, I mean, come on, all right,
(17:12):
more to come on the Nancy Bass jumping into the
gubernatorial race. We got plenty of time to talk about this,
you know, I mean, we got what ten months to
talk about this. I'm beginning to wonder that will anybody
drop out of this thing before we get there. I'm
wondering about Josh Kimberrel, just because we haven't heard much
from him, since the whole you know, lawsuit thing other
(17:35):
than his you know, defense of himself and all this.
But from that we haven't heard a lot, but a
long way to go here. But let's turn our attention
to the Democrats at a national scale. Of course, all
all the buzz is about what's going on in Texas now,
and Governor Greg Abbott well issuing arrest warrants for these folks.
(18:00):
I mean, he's playing hardball. Remember they did this back
a couple of years ago. It wasn't over redistricting. It
was over some election laws that the Republicans wanted to
put into effect in Texas, and the Democrats pulled this
very same stunt, and well some of them who flew
off to other places wound up getting COVID. He remember that.
(18:22):
Now you got to Gavin Newsoman in California, Kathy Hoak
of New York say, okay, well, if you're going to
do that, if you're going to redistrict to get more seats,
we're gonna do the same thing in our states to
get more Democrat seats to balance it all out. Okay,
this could go on forever, the back and forth, but
(18:43):
all in all, now, a new poll from the Associated
Press shows about a quarter of people who say they're
Democrat voters say their party was either weak or ineffective.
Why wouldn't they say that, well, exactly that, By and large,
(19:03):
Republicans are relatively united under the leadership of Trump and
have a clear and relatively consistent view of the party
where it's going, and tend to be positive about it.
According to a political science fellow at Rice University's Baker Institute,
Mark Jones, part of this survey, Democrats are much more
of a house divided in terms of how to react
(19:25):
to the Trump presidency, and you see that in the numbers.
About thirty five percent of Democrats use a negative term
in this poll to describe their own party, as opposed
to just nineteen percent of Republicans doing the same thing. Now,
part of the problem here is again a lack of
a cohesive message message, which is something that Democrats are
(19:46):
usually pretty.
Speaker 3 (19:47):
Good at, true, and it's usually easier when you're the
opposition party. I mean, if you have nothing else to say,
you can always say, well, he's wrong and we're right.
But they he didn't even get that straight because, as
has been pointed out on the floor of the Senate
by one of their leaders. I mean, some of the
(20:07):
Democrats are agreeing with some of the things that Trump
is doing.
Speaker 1 (20:10):
Mm hm, and others are well doing things like well
Elizabeth Warren who took a tumble on the Senate floor
the other day, Well, and now she's fallen for u
Zi ren Mondomdi Mondmi Mandanni. I'll get it right in
the second here.
Speaker 3 (20:30):
So that's I mean, taking it even farther to the
left and again farther out. I mean, when when most
people think of the Democrat Party in terms of mainstream Democrats,
she's so far out in left field. Now if she's
supporting Mandami, then I mean, again, what's your leadership doing?
(20:51):
What direction are they pointing in?
Speaker 1 (20:54):
Where?
Speaker 3 (20:54):
Where's where's the future of this party? It's it's not socialism,
is it? Well, according to Warren, it should be. I
guess she was asked specifically if Mondani was what the
future of the party should look like, and she said,
you bet really okay, all right, but that's your fringe.
(21:18):
That's that's not the that's not the mainstream. But there
is there is no there's no leader for the mainstream either.
Speaker 1 (21:24):
No, there's not.
Speaker 3 (21:24):
There's nobody who's stepping up and saying, here's how we
need to get, you know, out of the fog, here's
what we need to do to a win the midterms
and then b you know, keep a Republican out of
the White House in four years.
Speaker 1 (21:39):
It's almost as if they're just waiting around and hoping that,
you know, something fails here, the economy tumbles, they're rooting
for that that you know, the uh some Epstein news
comes out and you know, got Donald Trump plashed all
over it. I mean, they're just waiting for something to happen,
uh and react and not acting it, it seems except
(22:02):
for these progressives that right now are the only ones
making any news the Democrat Party at all. And then
you had the Pan American Congress that took place in
Mexico City this past weekend. And there you had members
of the squad like ilhan Obar and or she did
(22:24):
talib at this this summit, which is well organized by
a director of an openly anti capitalist and anti American slant.
And there you had well folks like Representative Adelio Ramirez
(22:47):
of Illinois who delivered remarks, a US congresswoman delivering remarks
at the opening ceremony saying I'm a proud Guatemalan before
I'm an American. And she's of this, delivering her message
in Espanol. These are okay. The summit they attended put
(23:13):
together by the leader of Progressive International, which is a
radical left wing group that describes capitalism as a virus
that must be eradicated. And here you've got members of
the United States Congress in attendance, cheering all this on
(23:36):
and agreeing with it, going to Mexico City attending this.
This is this is this summit, and trashing America in
the process. So these are not only people who don't
love America. These people don't even like America. Yet they
are sitting in seats in Congress, and they are part
of the Democrat Party and the party that again, there
(23:58):
are those out there like Elizabeth Horren think that it's
it's what the Democrat Party should be. People like this,
So any wonder why you get a pull and you
find that Democrats will, at least in their reaction to Trump,
are weak and effective and ineffective that is. But you
gotta wonder. The more and more this goes on, this uh,
(24:22):
this is this full sprint to as far extreme left
as you can get How do you keep people in
your party? How do you keep people interested in your party?
Because you say what you want? There are places this
plays well, but by and large, across this fruited plain,
(24:43):
this is not what Americans are all about. You may
not be about Trump and the Republicans, but you ain't
about this either. Your world happens here. But let me
be clear and updated accordingly.
Speaker 2 (24:55):
I have no doubt buncle your seat Bills one on
three point five FM and five sixty am w VOC.
This is Columbia's Morning News with Gary David and Christopher
Thompson on one O three point five FM and five
sixty AM w VOC.
Speaker 1 (25:13):
It is seven forty and good morning to you, Tuesday,
August fifth. Okay, let's get into the semi side of
bustay politics here for a minute or two now. Jonathan
Kelly discussed this on the rash Thought yesterday. The Matt
Lieber situation and a growing number of folks are calling
(25:35):
for Lieber to resign his role as a Senator from
the Low Country after these allegations made public by his
wife that he engaged in an affair with a paid
Republican political consultant who worked on his campaign and who
(26:00):
apparently was with him on a trip last weekend to Kentucky, right,
I think it was. So this all comes to light
when Lieber's wife, Michelle Lieber, a conservative activist who's on
the school board down in Charleston County, went and posted
(26:22):
a series of posts on Facebook over the weekend. They've
since been deleted. But these posts, again, you know, not
the way normal people go about all this. I get it.
These Facebook posts accusing her husband of having an affair
with Rebecca Madsen, longtime blue consultant who apparently had been
(26:49):
working for a as a communications aid for a company
employed by Josh Kimball's gubernatorial campaign, although she since left
that campaign. And I did not see these Facebook posts,
but apparently they were fairly lurid.
Speaker 3 (27:08):
Well, and Michelle Lieber said that her husband soon to
be ex husband is not the only one who's been
having an affair with this political consultant. Oh yeah, so
this is this may be the tip of the iceberg.
Speaker 1 (27:25):
Yeah, And again, apparently, according to her social media posts,
her husband and and Madsen were in Kentucky over the
weekend at a wedding of one of her husband's longtime friends. Okay, well,
you go to a wedding of a longtime friend, and
according to his wife's posts, you didn't take your wife,
(27:48):
you took this political consultant.
Speaker 3 (27:50):
Well, this consultants apparently acted as a handler to him
since he went to the state House. So I you know,
I guess they're used to traveling together, and she's there
just in case he needs to post something politically.
Speaker 1 (28:04):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (28:06):
I'm just trying to think of any excuse that you
could hand out for that doesn't make a whole lot
of sense. What didn't make any sense was how Michelle
Liber wrapped up by saying, even though she and her
husband are soon to be ex she still supports him
and she would vote for him. Again, how do you
explain that politics is a weird, weird thing, man, Yes,
(28:28):
it is, oh weird. She said she still respects his leadership. Now,
of course, if liber was a Democrat, this wouldn't be
a story. Okay, a big, a bit facetious air, but
not totally. But because again, because he's a Republican, and
because during his campaign he pledged to support family values.
(28:51):
Gotta walk the walk, You gotta walk the walk, man,
uh In his campaign, he knocked off and sin for
this post and that was an ugly, an ugly campaign. Well,
and you can imagine what his line of thinking was
(29:13):
in running against her. Okay, she's moved so far to
the middle and so far against what mainstream South Carolinians
believe when it comes to abortion. Yeah, so I'll take
her seat. And so he ran on a conservative family
values platform.
Speaker 1 (29:30):
So now you wonder, okay, if if these allegations are true,
how long has this been even going on? Man? But
so more and more people are calling for his resignation.
And yeah, in her post, his wife said both she
(29:54):
and Madstone's husband. Okay, so yeah, the consultant who's alleged
be in this affair with the state senator is also married.
But sounds like that they both are on the road
of divorce and have divorces pending. But yeah, she would
still vote for him. Okay, verywhere Now r J may
(30:14):
quick mention here who is behind bars and we'll stay
there until this trial on the child pornography charges claims. Now,
according to fitz News and Andrew Fancher that former Freedom
Caucus allies owe him thousands of dollars from when this
(30:38):
goes back apparently over some some some amount of time here.
Speaker 3 (30:44):
Uh. That's that's always been the problematic part of this
story is because as soon as his arrest made the news,
somebody went back and looked at the Freedom Council, but
the and their financial dealings with him, and they seemed
(31:06):
to stretch back a lot farther than you would think
it would be when he was accused of doing all
these things.
Speaker 1 (31:11):
Yes, he's claiming multiple members of the Freedom Caucus and
anywhere from a few grand to twenty five thousand dollars.
Speaker 3 (31:20):
Freedom Caucus, I said, Freedom Counsel. And I knew that
didn't sound right.
Speaker 1 (31:23):
Oh I didn't. I heard what I wanted to hear
when you said that funny how we do that? Right? Okay, Well,
remember that May basically signed everything over and in the
time between that raid and his home, which was what
about a year ago, right until the time he was
indicted and then and then tossed and arrested, that he'd
(31:46):
basically taken everything he had and put in his wife's name.
So he's all he he was broke. All he had
was that pickup truck, right right. He says he'd like
to get this money because his family needs it, because
he won't be bringing any money home anytime real soon.
We're just sweet and.
Speaker 3 (32:05):
It's innocent until proven guilty, I get, but it's certainly
you can certainly be proactive as a caucus and say, okay,
just to make sure you know, we're not going to
do any business related activities with you until your name
is cleared.
Speaker 1 (32:20):
Yeah. I don't think anybody would fault the Freedom Caucus
for that. No, No, I mean you kind of have
to wright because again, their their concern again is the
court of public opinion. And in the court of public opinion.
Uh well yeah, okay, the seamy side of politics in
(32:44):
South Carolina. There you go. I think we kept at
PG thirteen, didn't we. We try to Well, never mind.
Speaker 2 (32:49):
You're listening to Columbia's Morning news on one oh three
point five FM on five sixty am w VOC. Once again.
Here's Gary David and Christopher Thompson.
Speaker 1 (33:02):
At fifteen minutes after eight o'clock in the morning for Tuesday,
April April. Boy, wow, wow? Am I going forward to
going backwards? I'm not sure. It just feels like it
should be April, right, Okay, I'm about I'm not even
talking the weather here, I'm talking about gubernatorial politics in
South Carolina all right too. It feels like it should
be April already. H You can't even officially file for
(33:27):
this office until what, I don't remember the day, but
it's it's still several months away. But we are full
born into it, my friends and yesterday, and I don't know,
I could be wrong, but I expect this is the
last person to get into this race, but maybe somebody
else who pops up. I can't imagine why they'd want
(33:50):
to at this point in time. But as the we
mentioned earlier, as the state Democrat Party in their statement
yesterday said the clown cars officially for Okay, Nancy mas
enters the race, make it a big splash, you do
it would be? And uh, well, yeah, I mean when
(34:11):
when Alan Wilson got in, when Pamela Evan got in,
when Ralph Norman got in. Yeah, you had stories on
the national media of that, but probably more so for Mace,
just because she has a national profile that I suppose
could help her in fundraising. Yeah, talked about that, you know.
Speaker 3 (34:28):
I mean, that's why she's been bopping around places where
there are public like New Hampshire was at when New
Hampshire last weekend.
Speaker 1 (34:34):
I think was it okay? Yeah, I don't know. I
was in Mexico last week and I was not paying attention. Man. Well,
it challenging on the Gulf of America.
Speaker 3 (34:42):
She's smart, she's she's going to use all of the
angles that she can to in terms of money and support.
Speaker 1 (34:48):
Sure, yeah, yeah, but does that help her, you know,
get get a vote out here in South Carolina. Well,
this this remains to be seen now, certainly from a
name recognition standpoint. Yeah, she's got that, and she mentioned
that yesterday. She also had mentioned about double digit leads
and polls. I'm not sure what she was referring to,
unless it's some kind of an internal poll. None of
(35:08):
the polls made public show that. Matter of fact, of
the ones that had been made public, she does lead
in one of them by a point over Alan Wilson,
but another she's being beaten by you know, six seven
eight points by Alan Wilson. But it would appear at
least today as of August the fifth, not April fifth.
At August the fifth, am I going if the race
(35:31):
were today, it'd be a two horse race, right probably?
Do you see anything that might change over the course
of the next what now, ten months? That changes that much?
Speaker 3 (35:45):
Well, I mean yeah, I mean we haven't heard a
whole lot from any of the candidates yet, So I mean,
I think I think you've got to give a Pamela
Evitt or a Ralph Norman time to catch fire before
you can say definitively they're done already.
Speaker 1 (35:59):
Truly. Yeah, I mean no, everybody's got a shot of
this thing. But you know, the early polls indicated it's
a two horse race. Like you said, we're a long
way away. We are a long way away. So Mace,
in an interview with the Associated Press on Sunday before
her announcement yesterday, laid out a platform our state's criminal
(36:28):
justice system, ending our income tax, of course partecting women
and children. That the income tax is going to get
a lot of attention. Uh, every Republican candidate is talking
about ending our state's income tax. You kind of have
to write. The legislature teased us this past session with
(36:49):
this flat tax that turned out to be a total debacle,
and then immediately people started talking about let's just get
rid of it all together. Now, what is it like
forty five percent of the income the state brings in
every year is from state income taxes. I mean you
got to get that. You got to make up for
(37:09):
that some way or another. Now, don't make this a
shell game on us here. Yeah, we're ditching your income taxes.
But don't look at this hand over here. But if
you're a Republican running for governor, that's got to be
part of your platform. And it is part of every platform.
Matter of fact. You look at the platforms as they
stand right now, there's not a whole lot of daylight
(37:30):
between them. They're all pretty much the same. So as
far as Mace is concerned, she's banking on name recognition
and she pretty much out And Owt just came out
and asked Donald Trump for his endorsement yesterday. This is,
you know, the wild card here in the race. And
(37:51):
Will Trump, and we've talked about this a lot over
the course of the last number of weeks. Will Trump
actually endorsed in South Carolina or not? For this race?
He has endorses He's indorse Lindsey Graham for that Senate
seat again. But he could take that away in a heartbeat.
But he could. Yeah that that certainly can change. But
you've got you know Alan Wilson, who is touting his
(38:14):
ties with Trump. You've got Pamela Evatt, who, in her
statement she released yesterday her campaign says that she's the
only candidate who has consistently been with Trump because remember
Mace has not consistently been with Trump.
Speaker 3 (38:26):
Well, you've got two candidates who have been loyal foot soldiers.
I mean, you can't take away anything from Pamela Evitt
or Alan Wilson when it comes to Trump loyalty. Right now,
then you've got two candidates, Ralph Norman and Dancy Mace. Sorry,
Josh Kimberl, I'm not even sure what you're I'm not
sure what your alliance is or your allegiance with Trump is.
So I'll leave you out for now. But Norman has
(38:47):
had his disagreements with Trump.
Speaker 1 (38:49):
And recently too.
Speaker 3 (38:50):
Well, yeah, it goes through the big Beautiful Bill, which
you know there are a lot of conservatives out there
who agreed with.
Speaker 1 (38:55):
Well and don't forget and also over the whole Epstein thing.
Remember true, he was on that sub command that when
the Republicans wanted to put a stop to Democrats trying
to bring a House vote, Norman voted with the Democrats
on that panel. So yeah, there's that. But again, you know,
let bygones be bygones and all, and regardless of what
(39:18):
you think about the whole thing, you gotta think that
the Nancy Mace siding with Democrats to impeach Trump over
J six is for Donald Trump an unforgivable sin. You
gotta think that, right. It's it's you know, Trump's back
(39:39):
and forth. You know, he flip flops on you know,
whether he likes somebody, he doesn't like somebody. But but
if you if if you voted to impeach Donald Trump,
I see that as a bridge too far for Trump.
I could be wrong. Well he endorsed her after that,
Well he did, You're right, he did. I don't know
(39:59):
this is this is is going to be a fascinating
race here. Uh okay, so but but Nancy Mace's campaigns,
we said earlier this morning, is going to be you know,
bear with me here, like Donald Trump and drag you know,
it's going to be it's going to be straight by
the Trump playbook. It's going to be as it already
(40:22):
has been even before she got in insulting her her competitors.
She's not going to take the high road on this,
on anything, it will be very much a Donald Trump
like campaign, and uh, it's it's one that's gonna generally
a lot of sound bites, a lot of animosity, and
(40:47):
we got a long way to go, a long way
to go, all right, So Trump and high Hills. She says,
she's officially launched her bid for the Republican nomination. And
again to note to this point, now the single Democrat
is throwing their hat into the ring, as you said
earlier to who would that who would that be? Who
(41:09):
will be the sacrificial lamb in twenty twenty six? That's
what it will be every day, every hour hour.
Speaker 4 (41:17):
I'd like to stay informed everything you need to stay informed.
One O three point five FM and five sixty am
doub Voc. This is Columbia's morning News with Gary David
and Christopher Thompson on one on three point five FM
and five sixty am Double Voc.
Speaker 1 (41:37):
It is eight forty one. All right, our final thoughts
here for you Tuesday morning. That again is Todder mentioned.
Uh will be off and on with rain and some
of it could be heavy at times, so we could
deal with a few floating issues. Again. Was it Friday night?
I guess I wasn't around.
Speaker 3 (41:50):
I was decided, Yeah, Friday was. But Friday brought rain
and wind, which was a little different than we've had
most of the rainy period.
Speaker 1 (42:01):
This will be just.
Speaker 3 (42:01):
Rain, yeah, and thunder and lightning too. And there's some
stuff spinning spinning around out there.
Speaker 1 (42:08):
A couple of things spinning around out there. It looks
like a too early to tell, but so far we're
not in the woods, all right. We'll see over the weekend.
More troubles of the village at sand Hill. Nine one
one call, large group of teenagers fighting outside the Regal
sand Hill Theater over there. Apparently this had moved from
(42:29):
one location over to that location, and nine one one
called mentioned a gun. The gun was never found, but
deputies responded again. Sheriff Lot says, forty four times this
year they've responded to the village of sand Hill forty
four times.
Speaker 3 (42:49):
I mean, that was supposed to be a showcase for
you know, work Shop Live, you know that whole concept,
and it never got off the ground. I think the
original that the con family wound up declaring bankruptcy as
a result, yep, and then you know the rest of
(43:12):
it has been I mean it just it has a
bad reputation at this point. Yeah, and you hear people saying,
you know that the only people who are there now
are people who drop their kids off, and then who
knows what happens when those kids are allowed to run loose.
Speaker 1 (43:26):
And you know, I mean, come on, parents, forty four
times the cops have been called out to that place
this year, and you're gonna still drop your kid off
over there? Are you kidding me? Well, this one wound
up with a female shafftappy here getting body slammed by
a sixteen year old and it's on video. Yeah, and
I've seen the video now. Not going to make any
excuses for this kid, but apparently he just body slams
(43:48):
somebody and she comes up from behind to try to,
you know, get a hold of this guy, and he
just immediately turns around and body slams her. Maybe the
email was a cop who but it doesn't matter.
Speaker 3 (43:58):
They haven't charged him with, you know, assault on a
public official or anything like that. It's I think it's
instead what were the charges I remember seeing them.
Speaker 1 (44:08):
It probably a.
Speaker 3 (44:09):
Little different than you would have seen if he had
looked her in the eye and then body slammed her.
Speaker 1 (44:13):
Yeah, so why any parent would still drop their kid
off over there? Beyond me, man, beyond me. A tribute
for a hero, the Navy announcing they've a lot of
new vessels added to the fleet, and you got to
get a name, right, and one of the guided missile
(44:33):
destroyers will bear the name us S. Kyle Carpenter. Hopefully
you remember Kyle Carpenter, the Lexington native who in Afghanistan
threw himself onto a grenade to save a fellow marine
and suffered horrific injuries. But he was all these his
(44:56):
life will never be the same, but he recovered and
he's still out there today as a motivational speaker now
serving as inspiration. Yeah, if you ever get a chance
to hear him speak, do so. So. Congratulations again to
a hero who now has a naval vessel named after him,
Kyle Carpenter. Meanwhile, the tit for Tat ramps up Texas.
(45:22):
The governor there ordering the arrest of these House members,
these Democrats who fled to keep the state from taking
a vote on redistricting. Now you've got Hochell in New
York and Newsom in California saying, okay, you do that
to gain more Republican seats in Texas and in the
(45:43):
House of Representatives. We're going to do it too, to
gain more Democrat seats in the House of Representatives. Okay,
you know somewhere along the line, this is not the
way it was intended to be right, you're wrong, you're
breaking the loss. So we're going to We're going to
do it too. Yes, and most of these House Democrats
from Texas who fled to Chicago state that, well, guess what,
the exact same thing or Illinois.
Speaker 3 (46:03):
Then, yeah, everybody's pointing out that, you know, it's a
pretty bad look for Democrats to flee to a state
that's known for gerrymandering. Again, I think that points to
the fact that there's there's no leadership. There is no
leadership at the top of that party because somebody probably
would have stepped in at some point and said, don't
do that, or if you're going to do that, don't
(46:24):
do that.
Speaker 1 (46:25):
There.
Speaker 3 (46:25):
You know, let's let's let's put some strategy into this.
Let's think about this.
Speaker 1 (46:30):
Let's face it, Chicago was not exactly a town with
a startling reputation for its politics. Exactly. Come on, the
DOJ reportedly has launched a grand jury investigation into Russia
Gate and those in the Obama circle that are apparently
affiliated at least the allegations are with that whole making
(46:50):
up a stuff. Let's see where that takes us. Marjorie
Taylor Green, well, apparently she done with the Republican Party.
She's well saying this, she is. I don't know if
the Republican Party is leaving me or if I'm kind
of not related to the Republican Party as much anymore.
I don't know which it is. But she's threatening to
(47:12):
leave the Republican Party, thinking that the party has turned
his back on America first and the workers and just
regular all American, she says. And she's not afraid of
Mike Johnson at all, she added.
Speaker 2 (47:25):
Oh.
Speaker 1 (47:26):
In addition, apparently MTG is now urging the President to
commute the sentence of George Santos, saying a seven year
prison sends for campaign related charges is excessive, especially when
members of Congress who've done far worth still walk free. Well, okay,
(47:49):
good luck with that one. I mean, we're talking twenty
three felony charges, do you see with the lessless of
the year, and it his first term and We're not
just talking about campaign and stuff. We're talking about wire fraud,
identity theft. Let mean, come on, just maybe she doesn't
realize all the charges of the's faced.
Speaker 3 (48:07):
Well, she's always been a kook, but she does have
some backing from people who think Trump hasn't done enough
when it comes to whatever the government knows about Epstein.
Speaker 1 (48:17):
Well. Yes, remember Terry Moran, he was not that long
ago fired from ABC as our senior correspondent, admitting in
a sub stack post a few days back that his
previous employer is almost, in his words, almost inadvertently a
biased organization. Yeah almost almost. Well, he certainly is. And
(48:44):
what was I guess? Jim Acosta remember Jim Acossa. Okay,
dude is sung to a whole new level here. He
did an interview with Joaquin Oliver. Joaquen Oliver, a victim
of the Arkland shooting back in twenty eighteen, and in
that shooting he did lose his life. Huh yeah. A
(49:10):
Costa did an interview with an AI generated version of
this kid wow knowingly Oh yeah, okay, oh yeah, so
this was staged stage and he promoted on his social
media account saying you got to see this one tuned
in for this one.
Speaker 3 (49:29):
You said that at first, and I'm thinking somebody goofed him,
he cranked him.
Speaker 1 (49:33):
No, this was intentional. Okay. Yeah. And building a nuclear
power plan on the moon. What Sean Duffy, Transportation Secretary
and interim NASA Administrator, talking about building a reactor on
the lunar surface? Okay, Well, apparently the Russians and the
Chinese have talking about this too. It's all about generating
power and using the Moon as a launch pad of Mars. Okay, well,
(49:57):
number one before you can build a nuclear reactor on
the Moon, and let's hope it's not like the same
people we got to try to do the thing out
in Jenkinsville.
Speaker 4 (50:04):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (50:05):
First of all, you gotta get you gotta get people
to the moon, right, and we are not able to
do that yet it doesn't seem again, you gotta do
that one first, right. I'm thinking I could maybe another
way too. I don't know.
