(00:18):
Good morning and happy Memorial Day weekend. It's great to have you at Home
improvement show in the Midlands back onthe radio for Saturday, May twenty seventh.
Mother nature is not cooperating, butwe hope you make the best of
it. Anyway, we got abusy hour here, Paul Princes. Door
to Door floor is gonna be byhere in about fifteen minutes, give or
take. We'll talk about planning andbudgeting for your flooring purchase and how they
(00:39):
do things differently Courtney and Renee eventin time for the unofficial start of summer
with how you can spruce up andmake your concrete look fabulous. And we'll
talk about roofs gutters with summer fromBeaver Roofing and Gutters at coming up.
But let's start with our buddy TreyPound from Mosquito Joe, and Happy Memorial
Day weekend to you brother. Hey, Happy Memorial Day you as well.
(01:02):
Hey, listen, I mentioned thison the air the other day talking about
you. Okay, just be justto be real here, It's it's too
late now, Okay, you guyscan't get by this weekend or Monday for
Memorial Day. And again the weatherdoesn't seem to be like it's gonna cooperate
very much for us for outdoor stuffanyway. However, it's the unofficial start
(01:23):
of summertime and we're gonna spend moreand more time outdoors. We matter of
fact, this past week, wehad the boys over Wednesday night, I
guess it was, and we hadhad dinner on the deck out back.
And again, we live in aour home is in a neighborhood we gota.
We got a little creek that runsback behind the bad We got a
lot of trees, a lot ofvegetation, a lot of moisture, but
(01:48):
we don't have mosquitoes. And youguys are the reasons why. So thank
you. You are certainly welcome nowif you know you're gonna plan on getting
outdoors, oh yeah, July forthe next big weekend coming up. But
we've got Dad's Day coming up herein a couple of weeks, right,
And this time of year, youdon't need an excuse to get outside and
try to enjoy things. And thisis why, Mosquito Joe, you can
(02:12):
help you out because, as yourslogan says, you guys make outside egg
outdoors fun. Again, let's talkabout it. Right, let's do So
how do you do it? Well, we're an outside pest control company,
and so we don't do general pestcontrol. We don't go inside the house,
and we don't do termites. Weare really focused on the yard and
(02:35):
making outside fun. So anything anypests in the yard that would keep you
from enjoying the yard, whether it'smosquitoes, fleas, and ticks, which
is about ninety percent of what wedo, but also fire, ants,
gnats, spiders, anything that isreally keeping you from enjoying his yards,
we are we are there to eliminatethat pest. Yeah, we never really
(03:00):
talk about the other things did youjust mentioned. I mean again, ninety
percent of what you do is withthe mosquitoes and the fleas and the ticks.
And a lot of folks don't evenrealize that that same barrier spread you
put down for mosquitoes is applicable tothose two things as well. Correct,
that is correct. Fleas and ticksare pretty well managed by by that same
(03:23):
mosquito application. Uh, unless aperson has an infestation, you know,
when we find somebody who has youknow, eight or ten dogs or something.
Uh, you know, the fleascan get a little bit out of
control, and we have to takea little bit more aggressive action to get
that under control. But but thenit would be maintained through that same that
(03:45):
same mosquito control application says that's that'spretty rare occurrence. It sounds like,
yeah, it's definitely not not whatwe're doing on a daily basis, for
sure. That but most people don'thave that many dogs, you know,
out in the country somewhere or somethinglike that. So, and we want
to talk about control those moisquits herein a second. But you mentioned some
(04:06):
other things, you know, antsand such, so, so you do
treatments for those two outside. Yeah, I'll never forget when I moved to
South Carolina twenty about twenty years ago, hellos of the fire ants. Huh
yeah, we got our first tasteof we didn't have fire fire ants don't
(04:26):
exist up in Virginia we're removing from. And man, that was a welcome
to South Carolina. Holy cowbo, those things will light you up. And
uh, you know, we hadlittle kids, and you know that's just
not something you want your child torun into a fire ant mound or you
know, find one accidentally underneath theplay set or something like that. So
you know, especially with people whohave kids or people who like to be
(04:49):
out in the yard or working inthe yard, you definitely don't want fire
ants. And so, uh,you know, we have a once a
year application for fire ants, whichis great. It's one, it's and
done. It's guaranteed for the remainderof the year. So you know,
if if you haven't treated your yardfor fire ants and you'd like to take
care of that, we will guaranteeit for the remainder of the year.
(05:11):
So it's once and done. Okay, good, that's probably something you Why
not next year starting on it early, right, you know? Yeah,
I mean you're gonna have fire antsif you you know, you just have
them on your property every year. You know, the best time to treat
for them is in March or Aprilwhen before they really start emerging, and
then they don't mess up the yardwith a bunch of piles and you really
(05:35):
never see them. You know. It's it's like anything else. If you
wait until you're starting to get eatenalive before you start trying to solve the
problem. Uh, you know, you're better off to get an early start
on it. But but if youhaven't and you're seeing fire ants coming up,
you know, then we can getright out there and and eliminate that
problem for you. Okay, Now, if you want to be outside,
(05:57):
okay, you see the fire antbed, maybe you can avoid it,
all right, get I got it. But when it comes to mosquitoes,
yeah, no, they'll they'll behappy to come to where you are.
That's right. So let's talk aboutthe It really is amazing. And I
know I talk about this all thetime, but I guess you guys have
been coming out and treating our homessince we first moved into it about four
(06:18):
years ago. And you know thisis not hyperbole on my part, Tray.
I don't recall in the last fouryears getting bitten by a mosquito,
at least not while I was onmy property. And I neither one of
my next door neighbors uses any sortof mosquito control. Yet still I don't
(06:42):
have mosquitoes in my backyard. Howdoes that work, Tray? Well,
I'm happy to hear that. Imean, that's uh, you know,
we we don't promote a hundred percent. I mean, you are dealing with
an outside environment and a flying insect. But I will say that it is
very common to hear customers say thatthey can't believe the results. I mean,
(07:04):
they can't believe how well it works. They're so excited about it,
you know, they they have theirbackyard back, they don't have to spray
themselves down. I mean, weget, you know, raving reviews from
the customers. And personally, Iwas a customer before I bought this business,
and and that was my result. My experience was, Wow, I
(07:26):
can't believe how well this works. And uh, you know so, so
I'm glad to hear that. I'mglad that we can help you out.
You probably don't remember what it's liketo be in your yard when you're you
know, smacking an itching and scratchingand having to spray yourself down and and
all that stuff. So, butbut it's what the prop the the process
(07:46):
that we use and the application thatwe do is very localized, so it's
really specific to your yard. It'sreally not affecting your neighbors. We're eliminating
the standing water and treating any waterthat's in your yard that we cannot eliminate,
So the mosquitoes are just not breedingon your property anymore. And it
(08:09):
takes it takes about a you know, two or three applications to really get
that under control. But with youknow, with experienced technicians and lava siding
and finding that standing water and treatingthat standing water, it really eliminates them
from breeding. And if we're eliminatingthe adult mosquitos and there's no new ones
(08:31):
being born, you know, it'snot surprising that you don't see any mosquitos.
I mean the rare instance where youwould have a mosquito fly over from
another person's yard and into yours. The mosquitoes that we have, they just
don't travel very far and so maybetwo hundred feet in their whole lifetimes,
so they're very localized. So ifyou have mosquitoes, or if you're getting
(08:54):
bit by mosquitos, I can assureyou that they're standing water very close by
to wherever you're getting fit. It'snot always very obvious. It can be
underneath a deck, or you know, in the bottom of a flower pot,
or just you know, covered upwith leaves and drain or above your
head the gutters. There's a millionplaces, but it's usually a man made
(09:18):
container that is very very close by. Because you know, if mosquitoes have
everything they need they're just very lazyand they don't travel very far, and
so don't get finding that water andtreating that water is a very important part
of what we do. And soyou know, we've just gotten your your
yard very much under control where youjust don't have any newborn mosquitos. And
(09:43):
you know, we're just maintaining thatbarrier where they're not coming from the neighbor's
yard and if they do, they'regetting eliminated. Now, if I could
just convince my dog to just walkaround the backyard and not the neighborhood,
then I would never get picked bya mosquito. But you brought up dogs
earlier, What about folks who havedogs in the backyard? Art is this?
What about pets? And when whenyou come out and lay this spray
down, do you have to bringthem in the house or how does that
(10:05):
work? Yeah, I mean theproducts are not harmful to animals, um,
you know, or anything like that. In fact, it's you know,
it's it's a great thing to protectyour yard from mosquitoes if you have
you know, dogs and cats, because you know, heartworms for dogs is
one hundred percent a mosquito born illness. And you know, in this part
(10:30):
of the country if you're not treatingyour animals systemically giving them that pill um
and they're an outside a dog withinfive years or a one hundred percent going
to get um heartworms and that isfrom a biting mosquito. So you know,
it is protecting your pets as wellas your kids and yourself and your
(10:52):
family members. And as a bonus, that barrier spray works on the ticks
and the fleece too, is wejust talked about. So that is correct.
Well, edo, sleeves and tickswould all be be well managed by
that same application. But the applicationis self tree for some folks that they're
concerned about, you know, thingsorganic that will it hurt anything on my
property? Will it hurts you know, certain flowers or what have you.
(11:13):
So let's talk a bit about that. Yeah, nothing that we use is
harmful to the environment. It's notharmful to kids or pets or anything like
that. But if somebody has aconcern about that, we have a completely
all natural process which works just aswell as a synthetic. In fact,
(11:35):
it works so well that my beliefis within ten years this entire industry will
be all natural. I mean theyjust in the last eight to ten years,
I've seen the progress of these allnatural products that the results with them
has improved, I mean really dramatically, where to the point where you really
(11:56):
can't tell the difference between an allnatural and a synthetic um. You know,
if you're using the right all natural. I mean some of those old
all naturals are still out there, but we're using an exclusive blend that's created
for Mosquito Joe that just the resultsof it are just fantastic. It's a
little bit more expensive, but forsomebody who doesn't like chemicals in their yard
(12:16):
or anything like that, it isa really really great alternative. Okay,
So now and again this is somethingwe talk about all the time, but
for folks have maybe never heard thisconversation. You come out every three weeks,
right, that is correct. Itis a reoccurring service. I mean,
the UV is what breaks the productdown, and soever we treat it
(12:39):
sticks to the surface and then overthe course of a few weeks, the
UV will break it down. Afterthree weeks, it's kind of done its
thing. And that's actually really goodthing because that is, you know,
you don't want these products to bearound forever. You don't want them leaching
into the soil and getting into thewater system. And because they stick to
(13:00):
whatever we sprayed on, they breakdown right in place, and so um,
within three weeks they're they're going tobe pretty much gone and it's time
to reapply that application. Um youknow, So that so that you have
that continual protection and works because theplaces where it sticks to those vegetation,
that's where the mosquitoes always land, right, that's where they want to live.
(13:22):
And so once they do but correct, mosquitoes do two things. Number
one, they get they hide fromthe sun. They don't really like the
sun, and so they much prefershaded, moist areas like the underside of
foliage. And number two, that'sthe only thing that they eat. They
eat the nectar off of green foliage. And so we're treating all of the
(13:43):
green foliage, bushes, shrubs, groundcover, ivy, anything like that in
then around the yard. If youhave mosquitoes, they're going to go to
all of those things for shade andfor food. Now, when folks here,
okay, you come out every threeweeks, So I gotta sign a
long term deal here. Yeah, there's no long term contract whatsoever. Somebody
(14:05):
can just treat one time, justto try it out for a party if
they've got a party for Father's Dayor graduation or something like that, or
they can treat all summer. Wewe try and earn your business the right
way every time. And uh andwe guarantee every service excellent. All right,
So still first treatment thirty nine bucks? Is that still applicable? Thirty
(14:26):
nine bucks? First treatments only thirtynine dollars. We do it below costs.
We just want to give you achance to try it, and we
know you're gonna love it, butwe want to once to give you a
chance to try it at really norisk. All right, How to folks
hook up? Put your trey?Well, they can always go to mosquito

door to door Floors, Sitting downto the microphone now the Home Improvement Show
of the Midlands. Paul, goodto see you, buddy. How are
you hey? Great? Gary, thank you. It's great to be back
with you and your loyal, loyallisteners here on The Home Improvement Show of
the Midlands. A couple of weeksago we discussed door to door floors,
mobile show rooms, yea, ourdedicated project managers and our professional calm and
(16:57):
convenient shop at home process. Today, I'm going to introduce more door to
door floors customer focused differences that makeit easier to plan your flooring project and
budget. Well planning, I meanthat's that's key, right, I mean,
you don't want to go off halfclocked here, it is true.
Let's talk about planning. Yeah.Well, so, as a floor nerd,
(17:19):
I'm always Florida, I am.I love this stuff. I am
I'm always thinking and designing new andbetter ways to serve door to Door Floors
customers. I pay attention, listen, and learn from my own good and
bad experiences as a patron at ourlocal stores, restaurants, dealerships, banks,
(17:40):
doctors offices, etc. You mentioned, you know, we learn more
sometimes from the bad experiences and fromthe good ones. Oh yeah, absolutely,
well, you know, one ofthe biggest challenges that I hear from
our customers and our employees is thatthere are too many carpet and flooring options.
Now. Of course, we're thankfulfor the huge selections and freedom that
(18:00):
we have to choose that we enjoyas Americans, but having too many choices
is a real problem. It doesnot matter if you want carpet, area,
rugs, luxury, vinyl, lamina, hardwood, or tile. All
mills make cheap versions and expensive versionsof every flooring category, and people are
(18:22):
just way too busy doing what theydo to learn all that they need to
know to make well informed flooring decisions. And there's no need for them to
do that because door to door Floorsis your friend in the flooring business.
That sounds like me sitting down infront of a old any streaming service and
try to pick something to watch. There's just way too much. There's a
lot. But first way that Doorto Door Floors addresses the challenge of being
(18:45):
overwhelmed by too many choices is tocarefully curate our product offering, and that
means we thin the herd. Westart by only featuring brand name carpet and
flooring from trusted America and owned manufacturerslike Shawl with fifty five plus years in
business, Kerastan with ninety five plusyears in business, and Mannington with one
(19:10):
hundred plus years in business. Andthese mills have local representatives whose kids go
to school and play sports with ourkids. And it sure is helpful to
have a neighbor who works for themanufacturer be the one to inspect your carpet
or flooring and right up the claimif a defect is suspected. Yeah.
(19:32):
Now, on the flip side ofthat, the flooring lines that we call
are the Chinese made brokered brands youhave never heard of that are sold through
distribution, so that you won't findthese a door door floors. We have
access to them, but we certainlydo not promote them. They are not
our flagship brands that these products. The sample labels tout a fifty year warranty,
(19:57):
but they've only been around for twoor three years, so there's no
history every right, Yes, youknow, you know, I say beware
of um uh of those products becausetheir warranties are are backed by the distributor,
not the manufacturer. Um. They'rebasically fake rolexes. And uh many
(20:18):
flooring distributors today are not financially strongenough to have your back should a warranty
claim arise. Yeah, yeah, makes sense. Well we have those lines,
um, but uh um door todoor Floors UH thinks that it's important
to protect our customers and our reputationby showcasing manufacturers who put their names on
(20:41):
their flooring and stand behind their warranties. And we know exactly where and how
your flooring was made. And infact, a lot of our carpet and
flooring is made right here in SouthCarolina. Oh well, yeah, I
guess that makes sense. Yeah, textile mills and all that means big business
around here. Now. The secondway the Door Floors addresses this problem of
(21:02):
too many choices is we have asimple shopping system that works across our many
brands. Um, we label allof our carpet and flooring styles in a
consistent logical way with what we callribbons of value. Our shopping system is
based on the same competition ribbons thatare presented to the winners in athletics,
(21:23):
livestock shows, art shows, etc. We award our ribbons of value to
each carpet and flooring style to showwhere it places in the real life competition
for performance and luxury and only realflooring carpeting winners, only the real style.
Oh yeah, I'm sorry, thegood, the exactly so um so.
(21:45):
Our ribbons of value go like this, and these are the labels that
we have on all of our ofour styles. Fifth place green ribbon It
equals sale or rent. Uh,you're getting rid of a house. It's
no longer your home. Uh.Fourth a yellow ribbon is getting started,
just got married, first job, start or home. Third place white ribbon
(22:07):
flooring styles are first staying a while, You're getting your careers on track.
You're getting settled in, your kidshave been a good school. Second place
red ribbon is staying put. Yourkids college is paid for, maybe grandkids
are on the way. And thenour first place blue ribbon flooring styles or
(22:30):
for your dream home. You struckoil you just signed a first round NFL
contract, or you just took yourbusiness public. But that's interesting how you
do that too, because we talkabout with the guys from Lifetime all the
time. Maybe you put again countertopsif you're not going to be around for
long, or if you're flipping ahome, for example, I mean,
(22:51):
you don't go for the blue ribbonexactly. I'm not even there yet in
my career, and you on theplace well, you know. In addition
to our Ribbons of Value labels,we also label our pet approved styles to
help our customers quickly identify the carpetand flooring options that are the best fit
for the entire family, including theirpets. Ask the dog what they think
(23:15):
exactly. Now, So you're planning, and the next stop is, Okay,
what's this going to cost me?Yes, you got a budget this
thing exactly. I'm a customer whoshops just like you. When I'm planning
a major purchase, the first thingI need to know is how much does
it cost? That helps me determineif I'm in the market, or if
(23:36):
I need to save up, orif I need to consider financing. I
want to be in control, though, I when I do this research,
and I want to maintain my privacy. I'm not interested in giving out my
personal information to get bombarded with textsand emails and calls trying to sell me
When I just need a ballpark price. I don't like to give out my
(23:57):
email address to get a price,so I won't ask for yours. It
might be today's business culture, butnot at Door to Door Floors. We
instead provide an easy project estimator toolfor you to use on the homepage of
our website at door to Door Floorsdot Com now carry Our project Estimator tool
(24:21):
gives five instant estimates based on ourfive ribbons of value by you just answering
three basic questions. Though the onlyreason you would need to enter your email
address is if you want the estimateemail to you, but otherwise you can
screenshote it. We are not inbusiness to take We're in business to give
three three three questions. Three questions. Yeah, so here here They are
(24:45):
very simple. Number one, howmany square feet you need to type in
the actual square footage. The estimatortool calculates the overage needed. For example,
you know, here's geometry class lengthwith equal square feet. I'm having
flashback. We'll put that square footagein. Let's say you have a room
(25:07):
that's ten by ten that's one hundredsquare feet, but the carpet comes twelve
foot wide. You've got to buyone hundred and twenty square feet if you
want to carpet that room. Ourtool adjust for that, So you just
put your raw square footage in andwe'll take care of the rest. The
second question is what type of subfloordo you have. It's a drop down
(25:30):
either got a concrete slab or awood cross space. We need to know
that because there's different supplies needed toinstall that particular flooring on that type of
subfloor. And then the third questionis what flooring category you choose from a
drop down carpet sheet, vinyl luxury, vinyl lambinate, hardwood tile, etc.
(25:51):
And door to door floors. Projectestimator tool calculates all of the normal
items and installation supplies needed for atypical project. It calculates sales tax.
The only thing it does not includeis any special discounts, and our discounts
are taken off at the time. You're ready for one of our project managers
(26:11):
to come out and provide a detailedin home proposal, they'll they'll take discounts
off at that time. But thetool is not guaranteed, but is very
reliable. Jennifer and I put alot of work into it. This is
gonna because he about a great thing. Because you're sitting there privacy of your
own home or office, don't tellanybody, and you're on your computer and
(26:36):
you don't know right, you're notasking for an email address, you're not
as somebody to register or provide anypersonal information, so you can go on
there without worrying about And again, when you work with door do or floors,
you're not worried about this anyway. But you're not worried about something pushy
salesperson, uh, you know, getting all up in your business here.
That's true. So in the privacyof your own place, you can you
can get pretty dug one close toknowing what this project is gonna be,
(27:00):
usually within a few hundred dollars.Either well, it is amazingly accurate,
and a lot of people use thisfor real estate transactions. Let's say you're
buying a home and you want toput an allowance in the contract. You
can quickly figure that. Or you'resettling a home and somebody's asking you can
you can check them make sure theirallowance is reasonable. Well, I would
tell you if I'm talking to youfor the last month or so. What
(27:22):
we've learned is the way you guyshave to go about doing business is very
different, and then other people do. We focus on that, but we
don't want to be different just tobe weird. We want to be different
to be the best. Yeah.Absolutely, all right, Well, and
I guess maybe I think you'd mentionedto me earlier before we got into the
segment of it. In a coupleof weeks, we'll talk about the installation
process and the installers. Absolutely.Um, I want to talk about our
(27:45):
installers and how we background check themand how skilled they are in providing a
quality installation for you. Look forward, okay, And once again, the
project estivator is on the website. It is yes door Adoor Floors dot com.
And then when you're ready for newflooring, you just need to call
us at eight four four four onefloor and we are door to door floors.
(28:07):
Choose it where you use it,and the showroom comes to you.

this is all about, after youlisten to this discussion, you're you're gonna

that you're thinking of listening to thismorning, getting my concrete ready for the
summer. Let's let's talk about that. It's morning. Yeah, it's like
getting your body ready for the summercome sooner than you're hoping. We're always
(30:45):
like, oh my gosh, it'stime to start thinking about that, and
by the time you're thinking about itas a little too late, right,
but uh huh, I know allabout that. Yeah, So we were
talking about that and we thought, well, that's a great, you know,
way to kind of propose this becausewe've had a lot of customers,
homeowners, business owners say well, you know, I need this done,
um, you know, specific timeframe over the spring or the summer,
(31:07):
and so we are starting to bookthat. But then, of course we've
got some pockets to fill in stillin between those already reserved spots for for
improving spaces right now. And sowhat we're finding is um as people are
kind of doing the beach body stuffgetting ready for summer, um, they
are also thinking about entertaining, andwe're thinking about vacations, and we're thinking
about um, you know, allthe parties we're gonna throw and have and
(31:32):
so getting that ugly old cracked youknow, gray or stained concrete looking beautiful,
looking sexy again, get that bikiniconcrete ready, right, so that
concrete still has some of the yellowingrained into a Yeah, that's getting better.
It getting better, certainly. UmSo okay, well we'll clue us
(31:52):
in here for folks who aren't familiarwith what it is you do to this
concrete well to spruce it up.He Yeah, we usually grind the floor
and prep the floor, get itready for a thin overlay, so it's
a thin cement layer. We addon top of it. And sometimes some
floors have cracks, so we usethose cracks to advantage and make a stone
(32:12):
look tuscan slate look or something similar, something with a groutline that we can
use that if the crack's large enough, if it's a airline crack, we
can repair it and cover it upright, But the larger stuff is typically going
to come back, and so wejust use it to a design effect.
Yeah. So pretty much a decorativefloor we add on top and make the
floor sexy. Yeah, so beautifulrustic hardwood overlay. Look, we can
(32:37):
do that in any number of differentcolors, whether you like, you know,
more of the grays, the cypressgraze, or if you want to
do something a little more blond. All the way down through the chestnut into
the mahogany is really beautiful. Youcan do the real wood grain looks and
it can have a mat or aglossy finish, really anything that you prefer.
(32:57):
And so that's a really popular overlay. That's a very easy, beautiful,
cost effective way to make your spacelook. Like maybe if you have
hardwood floors in other areas of yourhouse and you want to extend that outside.
Um, and we can also dothat inside. We do that in
a lot of basements and um,you know, off off of porches,
and we do that in retail spacesand UM. It's a really really beautiful,
(33:19):
uh natural material look. But thenthe stones are awesome as well.
The stones and the slates, UM, we basically hand design that those groutlines,
and then we can put any kindof a color stain or even mixtures
of colors if you want that slateor stone to have a little bit of
the um grays and browns and evenyou know, green neutrals like a real
(33:40):
stone would look like, um,and it looks like you've flown that piece
of stone in from Italy, butyou didn't have to pay those costs,
right, So, and the andthe longevity of it as well, if
you have cracks and you want touse that groutline, Um, it just
really extends the life of what youhave, and it improves the value of
your property as well. So yeah, for sure. So let's be real
clear here if you're hearing this forthe first time, we're not talking about
(34:04):
taking your concrete and making it looklike concrete no, um, which I
mean that's all you want. Ifyou need to clean up and get repaired,
you can do about absolutely. Butwe're talking about taking your concrete making
it look like something that's not concreteexactly. Yeah. I mentioned though,
these overlays make it look like youknow, tile, wood, flooring.
You know a whole number of things, marble, We do marble as well,
marble, Yeah, very beautiful. And and and two because before this
(34:30):
was years ago, before I knewy'all we uh put a house up for
sale, and actually was before youeven put it up for sale. You
know our garages, concrete garages, you know how it goes, right,
Yeah, and we wanted to kindof spruce it up, so we actually
went out and bought this some kindof special paint with speckles in it or
(34:50):
something, and you're rolling on theconcrete right, which we which we did,
and quite honestly, it looked fabulous. Absolutely. First listen all day
long. How long it lasts? You know, that's the question. So
if you've ever done that, thisis not that. No, no,
that's not that. That's actually reallyone of our favorite customers who did that
(35:12):
type of floor in his garage becauseone week later they drive in their car
and te and it peels off right. Yeah. So main main reason why
we exist is not just making thosefloors nicer. We just prepare them right.
So we have heavy equipment. Wehave diamonds. They grind this floor
open and open up the concrete floorsso we can penetrate our material really deep
(35:38):
into the concrete so it's not comingup. So that makes the difference between
us and somebody who goes to abig box doore and buys his own kid
and hope so it will it willset. We use different seilers. Our
materials are just more higher quality, higher quality, So that's why people like
us exist and those floors don't comeup. So as you say, you're
(36:00):
you're preparing it properly before you evenput the overlay on. Yes, so
as opposed to you know, rollingthis whatever that paint the call they call
it like we did years ago, onto the floor then again looks great at
first, but you know after pullingyour car near a couple of times or
yeah sure, or maybe I domust folks don't use garages for cars anymore.
(36:21):
But whatever you're doing sure wear off. So what's what's the lifespan of
what we're talking about here, Well, you still have to take care of
your flow. So that's something peopleforget it very often. They think that's
what it's done, and then wedon't have to do anything. But you
can mop the floor. You haveto take care to take those odd spots
off because it does eat through it. So yeah, but it wipe it
(36:44):
off. But when when we putan overlay down, all you have to
do is just wipe it right off. And we people tell us that,
wow, I mean it's so muchit's draining better, or if it's if
there is as an outdoor and maybethere's a drainage area. But like the
inside. If you do have anoil spot or a stain or something,
if you wipe it up, itjust comes up really easily. It doesn't
penetrate those concrete pores anymore. Andthen you know it's you know, you
(37:05):
can't leave it there for days onend, right, because those materials will
eat through something eventually. But uslike having water on a on a wood
floor in the inside, and youleave the water on it, do you
have a damage? And that's thesame with flaws like this. So you
have to take care of those floors. But lifespent, I would say,
if it's prepared, ride prep, ride, add ride. Um, I
(37:28):
mean you have it the next twentyyears at least. So yeah, so
that's those floors are really really goodand Seedla's getting better, materials getting better,
so preparation. But preparation is reallyeverything. You say an overlay,
I have the image of your comingin with this big sheet of something that's
overlaying. Yeah, the concrete, but that's not that's not accurate correct Now,
(37:52):
it's pretty much a back out ofcement and you mix water into it,
and then there are different techniques. You can travel it on it,
you can hand troll it on it. You can t u was a large
um u um equipment and you tapesome stuff so you make the grouts.
(38:13):
You can stamp it, so theyare different techniques how you can do it.
And you also have to tape offwhat you don't want it to touch
because you listen if it goes down, if it were for example, like
kitchen countertops. We do plenty ofbeautiful um countertops as well, kitchen epoxy
and mark you know, looks likereal marble, and so you know,
the preparation for that area clean workingspaces is really important because you don't want
(38:35):
it dripping off the countertop onto yournice real hardwood floor, right. So
um, but yeah, the prepis really the most important part. You
can slap on a coat of paintin a in a top coat, but
if you don't really you prepare first, then those are not going to have
the long lasting effect. If youdo the preparation, then you're the lifespan
of the materials is just going tobe so much better. Is one of
(38:58):
these gonna come out and watch thisit takes place, because yeah, I'm
listening to you. I'm thinking, okay, so you're you know, you're
you're taking the existing concrete. Youdon't all the proper prep if it needs
to be repaired or taking care ofthe ad But then you get it to
where once you come in with youthe other stuff, it's you know,
it's gonna look beautiful, but it'sit's all concrete. How do you get
(39:19):
it to look like hardwood floors? It's well, it's a work of art,
really, I mean it takes alot of skill. Our art,
I can tell you, but Ihave to kill you things you no,
no, no, I mean ourour team is really well trained and they
have experience, right, and thevery first time they did it, it
might not have looked like things arelooking now right, But they've learned techniques
and we send them to trainings fairlyregularly with our suppliers and UM. And
(39:43):
so there's a number of different techniqueswhere you can use other tools to make
brushstrokes and actual knots and um.Then depending on whether the customer wants a
matt finish or a glossy finish thatgives even more texture. And then the
trowel. You know, there's allsorts of tools out there that these are
installers in our team there, theyreally are muralists. On the floor and
(40:07):
so they're bringing to life with thattexture and those designs for the customer what
they choose, and it really itis unbelievable what they're able to do.
And then of course we're using tohigh end products. We've really interviewed and
visited and trained with and practiced witha number of different materials and suppliers out
there, and we've decided who welike to work with, and there's some
(40:30):
stuff that just doesn't cut the mustardright. And you know, if a
customers comes to us and says,we want to use this brand and this
you know, make of material, you know, we typically try to work
with them, but we might say, hey, we've worked with that material
before and we don't really love it. We've seen some product failure with it,
or we've seen that you know,it fades or you know, who
(40:50):
knows, right, And so we'rereally going to steer you away from stuff
that we've worked with before that wemight not like and towards things that we
can recommend. And of course we'vefound a way to find different price points
because obviously the most expensive stuff istypically the stuff that performs the best or
is American made, and we loveto buy American made right, and so
(41:10):
there's all sorts of options out there, but we've done our homework on what
we feel like gives the best results, and we have a team that's well
trained to really be able to makeit one of a kind and have real
artistry to it so that it doeslook like the real thing. And I
don't want to misleave here because we'vementioned a number of times in the past
(41:32):
few minutes garages, but we're notjust talking about garages, I mean,
or we're not just talking about drivewayseither. Pool decks don't be getting for
someone. How about pool decks? What's what's hot right now? I mean,
what are the exciting things you're doingwith pool decks these days? With
these overlays, well, I wouldsay a stone looker on too, pool
tiles stone. You know, somepeople even have like, um, a
(41:55):
travertine coping around their pool, butthen there's extended concrete beyond that, and
so maybe they want to match that. Maybe they don't want to blow the
budget and do the entire thing intravertine, but if they want to have
extended stone or tile look beyond that, we can make that happen to match
the actual stones. I know,we did a pool last year that was
(42:15):
one of my favorite projects that endedat the end of the summer last year,
and it was a beautiful I guessit was sort of a slate that
had a lot of texture and colorto it, and they had these beautiful
real steps that went up to thejacuzzi and they had paid for the real
materials for those three steps on eachside, so I guess six steps.
But then the entire pool deck aroundthat was badly cracked and badly aged,
(42:39):
and we actually matched the entire pooldeck to those real steps up to the
jacuzzi, and the whole thing lookslike you have left the country and gone
to Spain or Italy or Morocco orsomewhere. It's absolutely gorgeous, very beautiful.
So that was one of our favoriteprojects for pool. And where's that
house I want to drop by?Well, we would tell you, but
(42:59):
I'm not sure the homeowner wants tokind of traffic, right, But yeah,
so, um, that's really popular. And then you know for pool
decks as well. Um, asimple and really cost effective overlay is a
wonderful flake floor and you can makeit look like real sand if you want
that. Some people do like asand color and even get a little bit
(43:19):
of glitter in there, and soit kind of sparkles and shines when the
sun hits it really beautiful. Soit just kind of feels like, Hey,
I'm I might actually be at thebeach here. I can kind of
pretend I'm on vacation and i'm andI'm in the backyard. So that's for
those of us who have the beachbod quite yet, right, stay in
your own backyard. Nobody knows getthat base tan right, Diamond Concrete Solutions.

We're back on the Whole Improvement Showof the Midlands. Thank you for
joining us this morning. As always, we appreciate you listening to us here
on one of three point five FMand five sixty AM w VOC. Good
morning the summer from Beaver Roofing andGutters. How are you, Good morning,
Good morning. We are doing great. I hope you are. You
know I could complain, but Iwon't. Nobody listen anyway, nobody would
(45:43):
care because why we all have ourown complaints. Right, yeah, oh,
good dis sakes. I hope youand aj and folks are doing well
over there, Beaver Roofia gutters,we are doing great. We're busy as
we can leave busy beavers. That'sthat's a good problem with busy beavers.
I see what you did there.Yeah, here you go. I want
to talk a bit about roof anda day. We've focused a lot here
(46:04):
the last couple of weeks. Ithink on talking about gutters and such,
but I want to we want totalk all about all the different roofing services
you do. But you know whatI talk about you during the week on
Columbia's Morning News, we always saythat Beaver roofing and gutters, they can
take care of all of your roofingneeds, all of them. Yep,
that's that's exactly right. Yeah,Apparently there are some roofing companies who their
(46:29):
definition of all is yeah, youneed a roof replaced, sure, which
you guys will do if it's warrantedthousand percent. We love replacing roofs.
But you know, it's like yousaid, it's not always warranted. It's
it's not always up, let's let'sjust replace it. Sometimes if you replace
(46:49):
it, you're still going to havethe same problem, you know, you
know that's what that's what we are. You know, we like to do.
We like to come out, welike to investigate, and you know,
we like to be your advocate. We're not out here like you said,
just oh yeah, let's just replacethat. That's not always what needs
to happen. And we want tolook out for the homeowner's best interests and
for their pocket you know, we'renot out there just to get their money
(47:13):
right now. Okay, So here'sthe question summer when your folks head out
there, so listen. Sometimes youknow this is just a small something.
Another this happened. You know, something's leaking around a roof boot or maybe
maybe you as a homeowner, don'trealize what's going on. We don't typically,
but it doesn't seem like it's amajor problem. And you call a
(47:35):
roofing company. So when y'all showup, what is there a determination?
And I know a lot of thisis driven by insurance companies, a determination
about what can be just repaired andwhat's gonna warnt a whole roof replacement?
Yes, so you know when weget a phone call, hey, I
(47:58):
have a leak in my kitchen orin my bathroom or you know, so
those are some identifiers to us.Okay, in your kitchen, in your
bathroom, there are penetrations through yourroof that vent out. So those are
your bathroom fans and your um,you know, your range fans and things
like that, and that happens veryvery often. Um. So you know,
(48:20):
those are just things we're like,Okay, it's probably one of those
so o um our, you know, technician, he's gonna come out,
take a look, he's gonna getphotos and he's gonna come down. He's
gonna show you, Hey, thisis why it's leaking into the bathroom.
Um. You know, maybe theceiling around the pipe boot or you know
that's what they're called when they comethrough the roof around the pipe boots has
(48:44):
you know, expanded cootract expand contractwith this wild, crazy weather that we
have in South Carolina, so it'sjust as easy as hey, let me
go ahead, I'm gonna reseal allof your pipe boots. I'm gonna make
sure that you're um that the ridgmenton your home is fastened. So we're
just gonna go and do you likeall make sure everything is working, tune
(49:06):
it up. At that point, you know, we've looked at your shingles.
We don't see any hell damage,we don't see any wind damage,
we don't see any huge granual loss. Overall, your roof isn't great help.
Let's just go ahead and steal upthese little things and you'll be good
as new. Now, sometimes there'san issue where maybe we've had a storm,
(49:28):
a tree limb falls on your roof. Next thing, you know,
you got water in your house. You go out as a homeowner and you
look at your roof and you say, oh my goodness, it's poked a
hole in my roof. That doesn'tthat doesn't require a replacement. Not necessarily
doesn't mean it does not you know, and it does not require a full
replacement. And a lot of times, you know, oh, you just
(49:51):
say, oh yeah, we'll justfallen insurance claim. Well, you don't
know what the homeowner's deductible is there. You know, deductibles range from five
hundred to five thousand dollars. Andthat replacing that area, you know,
we would where there the hole is. It wouldn't necessarily cost the deductible.
So it's not like I said,we're not going to say, oh,
yeah, we need to replace thewhole thing and this it's not worth all
(50:15):
of that. No, because alot of times the insurance company will say,
oh, it's located right here, there's no other damage on the roof.
We're not gonna We're not going tocover the whole house. You know,
we don't need any full and replacement. So we'll come in, we'll
make the repairs and just do whatneeds to be done to get the roof
back in good condition. Come up. And when we do that, you
(50:39):
know, we take into effect ofyour existing shingles. We match as close
as possible to those to those shinglesto make it look aesthetically nice, pleasing.
We're not gonna if you have abrown roof, we're not going to
throw black shingles on any call ita day. No, you know,
we're going to make sure that itlooks nice, it works like GE's supposed
(51:00):
to, and we're all happy whenit comes to the insurance part of this.
All right, So let's move toto this part of it. Let's
say you're needing to do a roofreplacement. When that happens. So somebody's
got a leak. They give youguys a call. Your technicians come out,
(51:21):
they take a look, and theysay, you know, maybe maybe
you are do a new roof here. Ye. Now, the insurance company
gets involved, and one of thethings you guys pride yourselves in is to
be the homeowner's advocate in dealing withthe insurance company. Explain, explain that
process. I mean, what areyou doing to be the homeowner's advocate here
(51:44):
in all this? So you know, the insurance companies, they're in it
for them. They want to payas little out of pocket as they possibly
can. That's just the business.I'm not talking bad about insurance companies,
but where they make their money. That's just a fact of the matter.
That's how it is. How tofolks reach you. So Beaver Roofing and
