Speaker 1 (00:02):
Wakem wakem. He gets my day going and makes me
lab I of it. Mac and Schmitty in the morning
on Star one on five point seven, Good morning, good morning,
Welcome into your Tuesday here. And uh, you know, I
know yesterday one of your kids went back to school,
another one today, Schmitte. Did you have to fight with
(00:23):
them to wear a coat? On the first hymn school?
Speaker 2 (00:25):
It was actually really good. Yeah, he's very into We've
got like a thermometer that sits on our refrigerator and
so he's very much into looking at at and I
was like, brow, it is fifty three today. He's like, well,
grab a jacket and was very proud of himself because
it actually started downpouring during recess and he was one
of the only kids that had a raincoat. So that's mine.
That's my responsible oldest.
Speaker 1 (00:46):
I don't mean to brag or anything, but I'm kind
of ahead of the class right now.
Speaker 2 (00:50):
Yeah, he was very, very very into his responsible side.
Speaker 1 (00:54):
Well, not a bad morning for coat. Most times are
hovering right around fifty degrees across West Michigan right now,
with highs today only get into the upper sixties. It
looks like to mostly sunning those who have a bit cooler
out there for sure. As we go back, I know
still lots of schools still to return. Saga tuck today,
head and back. Having that fight this morning to get
out the doors. Bitty me not? Maybe not?
Speaker 2 (01:16):
We had no fight yesterday zero five. My son was
so excited to go back, and we're going to talk
about it at seven ten. I have a fabulous new
tradition that maybe you start in your neighborhood because it
was such a game changer for getting tons of kids
ready to go back. I think it's a really cute app.
Speaker 3 (01:32):
Very cool movies, music and all the gossip in one place.
Speaker 1 (01:37):
It's the celebritiescoop on Star one oh five point seven.
Speaker 2 (01:41):
The long waited Love Island USA season seven reunion went
down last night and the drama was faced head on.
So if you are a fan of the reality show,
you know that beloved winners Amaya and Brian have been
facing cheating rumors after the cameras stopped rolling. The couple,
who's kind of met up and found love midway through
(02:02):
the season, kept things pretty low key after filming wrapped,
until videos surfaced on TikTok and Instagram of Brian out
at a club, raising questions about their relationship status, wondering
if maybe they were now done for and Brian may
have cheated on his winning girlfriend, not the case. They
(02:22):
sat down with Andy Cohen yesterday.
Speaker 4 (02:25):
Brian, there was a video that sparked a lot of
rumors about you cheating partying with other girls. We know
the internet had a lot of opinions, but walk us
through what's been going on.
Speaker 5 (02:38):
They're trying to just throw any hate my way. And
within the cheating video, the hosting I got paid to
be there ice a bartend back in the day at
a lapse of judgment, and we've talked about it.
Speaker 2 (02:49):
And yeah, that's it, he said. I was just pouring
shots for guests and getting a little flirtatious, as bartenders do.
But Amaya backed it up and said that cheating has
never been a part of their story, and fellow Islander
Chris Seely was there as well and said I didn't
see anything wrong. They're still together, still very in love.
Speaker 1 (03:08):
I just love the expectation for real relationships to come
out of these things and people to get Sewintern trying
to be like, are you serious.
Speaker 2 (03:14):
It's because we were all raised on like the very
first season of the Bachelor. Yeah. Will Smith has been
accused of posting an embarrassing video featuring AI shots to
make his crowd look bigger. The fresh Prince of bel
Airstar posted a video to his official YouTube titled my
favorite part of tour is seeing you all up close.
(03:35):
Thank you for seeing me too. He shared a little
snippet of his performance.
Speaker 1 (03:40):
Did you fall Hi you saw God opens a window,
winn the table closes the tour Will Smith.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
Gift Yeah. But social media users were quick to point
out in the comments section a number of very bizarre
visual errors, blurred faces, oddly shaped hands that had six fingers,
signs that weren't written correctly. Another part of the clip
had a man's knuckle blurring into a sign, and then
(04:10):
a woman was holding a separate poster, but the headband
of a woman behind her shows up on her wrist.
I've looked through this. It is definitely a little sus
One fan writing, oh no, why is the crowd fake?
Equal parts embarrassing as it is hilarious. A second fan writing,
imagine being this rich and famous and having to use
(04:30):
AI footage of crowds and bot comments on your video.
Tragic man used to be cool.
Speaker 1 (04:36):
I mean, honestly, the cover ups worse than the crime.
You play a show to audience, no big deal. You
played it with show to a light audience and then
try and fill in the blame.
Speaker 2 (04:44):
Well, catch you, they do you're looking to And finally,
Billy Ray Cyrus got a very special birthday gift from
his daughter Miley, and it looks like any former family
drama has definitely been put to rest. He shared a
snippet of Miley's new song Secrets, that was penned in
honor of him and used background instrumentation by Billy Ray's
(05:09):
favorite band, Fleetwood Mac.
Speaker 6 (05:12):
Secrets, I Want to Keep You Secret Sie signing Shutdow
Light Footsteps and.
Speaker 5 (05:28):
So.
Speaker 2 (05:28):
Miley actually talked about this song back in July. She
explained that Billy served as the inspiration because she wanted
to be a safe space for her dad's secrets and
this was something that she finished in time for a
birthday gift.
Speaker 1 (05:42):
Honestly, I've never wanted to know what Billy Ray Shiris'
secrets were more than I do right now.
Speaker 2 (05:47):
I don't know. I'm like, that's all your day up.
I mean, I like Fleewood mag but look all right,
I've got it up for you with your scoop at
West Michigan Star dot com starting a.
Speaker 1 (05:55):
Fine points you haven't Mac and Smitty in the morning.
I always looking to get your day off to a
great start. Feeling good right now and this is just
wild of course, with fires wildfires going on across California
in Oregon obviously very dangerous and fast moving situations. While
there was a fire also recently in Utah in West Jordan,
Utah that destroyed a few homes along Jackling Drive there,
(06:18):
but it could have been so much worse if it
weren't for the quick actions of some teenagers. So a
fire broke out suddenly, then the whole neighborhood just filled
up with smoke, and several teens who lived just a
few houses away saw a pro pane tank explode, making
this fire spread even faster. They spotted a truck in
the driveway of one of the existing homes, but didn't
(06:39):
think anyone was home, so not only did they fear
someone was inside, but once they realized they weren't, they realized,
there were, however, dogs on the inside, and that's when
they sprang into action. It was all captured on a
ring doorbell video fight whole. I'll start anyway, Hey, keeping.
Speaker 2 (07:11):
The animals out, get around, where's the dog?
Speaker 1 (07:15):
Okay, let's go. They got the dog and ran out
of the house. Within an hour, that house was gone,
completely destroyed by flames. The teen said the gratitude of
the dog's owners made everything worthwhile. Just how grateful the
family was. It made you feel good inside. They told
their local news.
Speaker 2 (07:35):
Man, it's back to school time and this is quite
a video. She calls herself cool Miss p. She's a
teacher in Atlanta that has gone viral over the technique
she uses to teach her kindergarteners. They're alphabet Hey.
Speaker 1 (07:55):
You ni de n yes, good job.
Speaker 7 (08:14):
In eight.
Speaker 2 (08:17):
It has gotten hundreds and thousands of likes, she said,
I like to use the instrumental for a song called
baby by Little Baby and Dub Baby. She said. My
kids literally learned letters sound correspondence for all letters within
the first two weeks, and then voila. They're reading teachers
in these comments sections. Is They're unbelieve. They're like, this
(08:40):
is so brilliant, this is so perfect. I'm totally stealing
this way to meet your kids where they're at it
is awesome.
Speaker 1 (08:47):
I mean, I'll be honest. You should look out element
Op because there might be a new alphabet song coming.
Speaker 2 (08:52):
Also, O good it is that our Instagram guys at
West Michigan.
Speaker 3 (08:55):
Star Movies, music and all the gossip in one place.
Speaker 1 (09:00):
It's the celebrities gup on Star one oh five point seven.
Speaker 2 (09:04):
Well, Little nazacks back out of jail after spending the
weekend there following his arrest last week over a suspected overdose.
He did put up the seventy five thousand dollars bond yesterday,
did not speak to reporters as he blined for a
white jeep that was waiting for him, dressed in a
blue jail outfit.
Speaker 5 (09:26):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (09:26):
He appeared in front of a judge and pled not
guilty after being hit with four felony charges. This is
some pretty serious stuff. The Los Angeles District Attorney issued
a press conference confirming Lil Nazas also injured three police
officers and now faces up to five years in state
prison if convicted on the charges. His dad was there
(09:48):
to greet him, hounded by reporters outside the jail, and
said any rumor of drug abuse is simply not true.
Absolutely kind of support are you offering him A yeah,
the family support.
Speaker 6 (10:02):
He message to the fans that are concerned about him
right now, he's.
Speaker 7 (10:06):
He's in good spirit, he's all right. He's very remorse
with what happened, you know, but make him happen in
any family. You know, he's going to get the help
that he needs. And just keep him in your prayers,
you know, give him the same grace and mercy to
God give everyone.
Speaker 2 (10:24):
Yeah, that was a stad Robert Stafford who said the
family is kind of banding together to make sure that
he gets back on the right path.
Speaker 1 (10:31):
Almost have it was drugs only because like, if not,
there's some serious mental issues going on them.
Speaker 2 (10:37):
But hopefully he finds it good. I mean, there are
good places to handle those kinds of things. We just
hope that it gets figured out. A. Snoop Dog is
in some hot water over comments he made in an
interview about taking his grandkids to see the movie light Year.
It's been a very interesting fifty to fifty on this.
Some people saying this is super inappropriate and you do
(10:57):
not understand what you're talking about. Other people going I
get it as a parent. This is the conundrum he
found himself in as a grandfather.
Speaker 8 (11:06):
I took my grandson to see Oh, the New Buzz
The light Year. I think Keiky Palmers in that movie,
she plays like the daughter. So we're watching it the lady,
which is Keky's mama. They move on into the space
hears they move down the line, they're like, and she.
Speaker 1 (11:21):
Had a baby with a woman?
Speaker 8 (11:24):
Or my grandson in the middle of the movie like,
Papa snoop, how she have a baby with a woman?
Speaker 7 (11:29):
She a woman? Oh shit, I didn't come in for that.
Speaker 1 (11:32):
I just came to watching movie. Hey man, watch the movie.
Uh uh. They just said she and she had a baby.
They both women's how does she have a baby?
Speaker 2 (11:42):
Sh movie and over it.
Speaker 1 (11:45):
So it's like, I'm scared to go to the movies.
Speaker 8 (11:47):
Then like y'all throwing me in the middle of I
don't have an answer for it.
Speaker 2 (11:50):
Yeah, there's been some saying this is rooted in homophobia.
You should be working to educate your kids and grandkids
on people that might live different lives than what you
would consider normal. Others saying at the same time, maybe
certain topics might be too much for younger audiences. Definitely
something Disney has dealt with very recently, and I think.
Speaker 1 (12:12):
Most people can relate to being caught off guard by
a question that you think is a serious question that
offers some nuance and things like that that you're just like,
I'm not ready for this just yet.
Speaker 2 (12:22):
And finally, speaking of a big weekend in theaters, k pop,
Demon Hunters sparking mayhem with sing along screenings absolutely destroying
the box office. So, while this is Netflix, it was
in a very limited theatrical release, sold out screenings across
the US, Canada and overseas. And when you see the
(12:45):
videos coming out of fans literally sobbing while they sing along,
this thing is massive. Currently it has half of the
top ten songs on the Billboard two hundred right now.
If you're not familiar with this, it follows a South
(13:08):
Korean girl pop group that lead double lives as Demon
Hunters and their new greatest challenge is a five piece
boy band who are actually demons in disguise who plan
to devour the souls of their.
Speaker 1 (13:20):
Fans based on a true story. I'm assuming this thing.
Speaker 2 (13:23):
Is number one trending. Literally everywhere every parent I know
with kids of a certain age are talking about this.
So if you hear your kids talking about K pop
demon hunters. That's what it's all about. I've got the
trailer up in some of those videos of absolutely emotional
fans with your scoop at West Michigan.
Speaker 1 (13:41):
Start off on points. Good morning to you, it's Mack
and Schmitty and good morning to parents scaring up sending
the kids off to school today something from back for
the first time like you did yesterday.
Speaker 2 (13:51):
I yeh up. It was quite a few schools yesterday
that waited to go back until this week, and I
know we still have a couple going back after Labor Day,
so I wanted to it up because there's still time
to kind of create the super cool tradition and I
cannot take credit for it. This was my outstanding neighbor
and friend, Ellie, and she texted me over the weekend.
She said, Hey, every year since our girls were in kindergarten,
(14:14):
we do donuts and coffee on the driveway on the
way to school. So our piece of the neighborhood pretty
much backs up to Will's school, so we walk every day.
We're walkers. And I said, oh, that's fantastic, that sounds great.
What can I bring? And there was just like this
fabulous spread, coffee, juice, all sorts of like just cute
(14:36):
little goodies. And we stopped there about the half hour
forty minutes before school, and it was packed. There were
so many kids and families. But here's what I loved.
There would be cars that drove up to pop in,
and as soon as somebody would drive up or walk
up or a parent would drop off, all the kids
(14:58):
would start hyping them their name, their teacher's name, the grade,
like third Gride's gonna be the best, third Grides better
than the rest. My son, who did not tell us
yesterday morning, he was nervous. He didn't admit it until
he got home from school. We said, you know, how
is your day? And he said, it actually was super
super great. I was pretty nervous getting there. I said
(15:19):
I had no idea and he said, well, the donuts
at Miss Ellie's really helped. And every single one of
these kids, you just saw their entire physical self change.
And I remember I was always I mean, my anxiety
level was thirteen out of ten starting school every single
year without fail. It was just I'm not good with change.
(15:41):
I get really nervous. If you didn't have one of
your really good friends in your class. You just felt
a little off. This was the coolest thing I've ever witnessed.
And even if they didn't know the kids, like we
had some kids coming for kindergarten they never met before,
didn't matter what's their name, Oh yeah, Connor, let's do it.
Was phenomenal. And if you have the opportunity, and you
(16:03):
live in a setting like a neighborhood or a subdivision,
you even just have a few good neighbors before the
bus stop, do it. It is totally going to change
your kids first day.
Speaker 1 (16:14):
Honestly, that's a phenomenal idea.
Speaker 2 (16:15):
It was amazing, It really is.
Speaker 1 (16:17):
And I was just thinking about it from my own
kid's perspective of you know, going on that first day,
it's a little stressful to go get on the bus
for the very first time, or to go into your
new school, because both of my kids went to new
schools today, and I can just imagine that donuts with
a ton of other kids all screaming and like getting
distracted for that few minutes before school. I can't think
(16:38):
of a better way to just break all that tension
up and say this is going to be older kids.
Speaker 2 (16:43):
We had every person from a couple of preschoolers to
fifth grade doing this, and so I'm like, man, I
got to share this. You got to meet new friends.
He met two kids he had never known before that
ended up being in his class yesterday. It just was
such a nice start to the school year, really was.
Speaker 1 (17:03):
I gotta ask after everybody went and took their kids
into school. After that, was there an after party with
mimosas and bloody work.
Speaker 2 (17:12):
I was like, are we And then everybody's like, oh, no,
I've I've still got to go into work, and I
was like, I gotta clean my house.
Speaker 1 (17:18):
Oh.
Speaker 2 (17:18):
That's when I was like, well, enjoy second grade. Being
an adult's the worst thing ever? What an awesome Yeah.
I had to share it because if you had the opportunity,
And like I said, I know friends of mine that
had the bust up, they have thirty kids at their
bus stops and they did the same thing. It was
just it's great send off. And I don't know, it
probably works for college too. Show up to Grand Valley
(17:39):
or Michigan State and set out a table with free food.
Your kids are gonna make friends right away.
Speaker 1 (17:43):
I was gonna say it was borderline tailgate party as
you're describing it, but stop with thirty people at its
spinny so college that fits perfect, so salty, but sometimes
very reasonably. So it's start one to found four and
seven Mac and spitty. Time to event a little bit here, spitty,
somebody bogart the school supplies.
Speaker 2 (18:01):
Yeah, man, we have been waiting for a backpack to
ship for almost a month. Now. I'm so irritated because
we paid for the expedited shipping. I'm just a rubsalt, honestly,
you guys, we're not normally those kinds of people like
we're you know, yeah, take your time, it'll be fine.
(18:22):
But they just keep pushing it back and back and back.
And so Will had to start yesterday with his older backpack.
It's just a little bit more beat up. It's like
two or three years old, and we're checking every day
and now we're not sure what to do. It's a
great backpack. So do we cancel it or do we
wait to see when it comes and then fight them
on the expedited shipping that we definitely did not get,
or do we just look elsewhere? Wait, you I don't
(18:45):
have the time for this.
Speaker 1 (18:46):
They could give it to you for free. There's always
that chance that they're like, you know what, return I
no longer need this item, and they're like, hold on,
don't even return it, just hold on to it. We'll
refund you right away.
Speaker 2 (18:57):
I don't think these guys are oh.
Speaker 1 (19:00):
Stalky, Honestly. The only thing that's worse than that is
when it tells you it finally shift, and then you
watch it go to Grand Rapids, and then you watch
it go to Indianapolis, and then you watch it go
to Pennsylvania and you're.
Speaker 7 (19:11):
Like, what is that happening?
Speaker 3 (19:12):
Yeah, back bag, movies, music and all the gossip in
one place.
Speaker 1 (19:20):
It's the celebritiescoop on Star one oh five point seven.
Speaker 5 (19:24):
Well.
Speaker 2 (19:24):
It was a very lengthy Instagram post and truly one
of the first times I believe Britney Spears has gotten
super open about her marriage to sam as Gari, calling
it a fake distraction after she was cut off from
her sons Sean Preston and Jaden James, and writing about it,
you can almost sense the emotion. She said, We're just people,
(19:47):
so fragile and human. The hardest years of my life
were my two sons gone. For those three years I
was cut off from calling, texting, I remember in shock,
my secret to survival was just total denial and a
lot of tears. It's weird that me and Sam were
even married during this time. It almost felt like a
(20:07):
fake distraction to help me deal with it. We all
know I'm healing because I am very hungry again to
get back to that way of life, but it hurts
at the same time. There was just way too much
abuse and trauma in my past. I thank Jesus for
fixing myself and my soul, but it's definitely something that
(20:27):
has been very, very hard for her. Wow, we never
heard this side of life from Sam either, even all
the times he talked.
Speaker 1 (20:34):
About their marriage. You know, do you feel like some
of this is resentment after he did the tell All
book and some of those kinds of things. He never
said bad things about Brittany.
Speaker 2 (20:44):
You think she would call him out though she hasn't
had trouble doing that with others in her past on Instagram.
I just I don't know if maybe she's still working
through some things with her boys. We know that they've
definitely been more present in her life, and maybe this
is her way of being Like, I was absolutely gutted
when that happened. Taylor Swift is once again in full
promo mode, launching a fourth vinyl collection. I have to
(21:07):
admit it seemed like Swifty's were a bit disappointed yesterday.
She set up another countdown on her website, this time
setting it for four pm yesterday, and while fans hoped
it was a different announcement other than vinyl, that's what
it was. She did have a very interesting Google Easter
egg though. If you Google Taylor Swift yesterday, the entire
(21:30):
screen popped in gold confetti. Because that's what she can do, baby,
that's show business. Vinyls. This is the fourth one that
has dropped. No word on whether she's going to release
even more Prince and not surprising, this is of course
going to sell out. All of this new music is
not even arriving until October third, and she has drumming
up some serious buzz.
Speaker 1 (21:52):
I mean, this is what she does. She is the
master marketer of all this stuff.
Speaker 2 (21:56):
I did think it'd be different. I did not think
it'd be another vinyl.
Speaker 1 (22:00):
Many times you will start getting people TikTok.
Speaker 2 (22:03):
It felt that way yesterday in the comments. Finally a
massive deal for Rihanna, her multi billion dollar Fenti brand
just inked its first beauty and skin sports contract with
the New York Liberty. It's Fente by WNBA. This is
huge as women's sports continue to skyrocket in viewership and popularity,
(22:27):
there is some money to be made. Sukiana Chancey is
VP at fenty Skin and fenty Hair. She says, there
is not one monolithic view of what a female athlete
looks like, and there's not one monolithic view of what
beauty and beautiful looks like. That is the perfect intersection
of the marriage of these two brands. This is pretty big,
(22:49):
one hundred and seventy percent increase in viewership in just
one year with the WNBA, and Fenti says, we are
taking full advantage of this. It is going to be
absolutely phenomenal. CEO of the New York Liberty said, there
is a different level of visibility and this is exactly.
Speaker 1 (23:06):
Where we want to be. You know what, I like,
I think that a great deal for Fenti and for
the w NBA. But alsio, I wonder how many Google
searches for the word monolith went down yesterday that I'm like, well,
I got a feel that a lot of people immediately
ran to Google, like what is happening.
Speaker 2 (23:23):
All right, all of your celebt scoop at West Michigan
Star dot.
Speaker 1 (23:26):
Com stmino point see and let's do this battle of
the sexiest time, trying to get you out to our
Frederick Myer Gardens and sculpture parts.
Speaker 2 (23:33):
Middy, there's just so much to do, and the children's
garden is so perfect for your kids. Six one, six,
four five eight, one oh five seven Today's question one
hundred women surveyed what fruit takes time to break into?
Speaker 1 (23:49):
I don't know, but you know the one that I love,
Schmitty is I like it when you can get a
little cutie or a clementine and you can undo the
whole thing and just one peal.
Speaker 2 (23:58):
It really makes you hate the regular orange just does. Yeah,
I feel like an absolute new about here savagees six
one six, four five eight, one oh five seven Color seven.
We've got one hundred women surveyed what fruit takes the
most time to break into? You've got that number one answer.
You and the family of scored passes to our Frederick
Meyer Gardens on Star Win oh five point seven.
Speaker 1 (24:21):
Good morning Star. Who's this Maddie, Maddie? Where are you
calling from today?
Speaker 2 (24:25):
Carlos again.
Speaker 1 (24:27):
Rap, Maddie, gotta tell me. One hundred women were asked
to name a fruit that it takes a lot of
time to break into. What do you think? The top
answer was there, Maddie, pineapple? Pineapple? You know, I just
cut one the other day, and not only does it
take a while, but it also has like those little
spiny things that are still on the fruit, and I
feel like it got to just keep shaving it down
(24:48):
until those are finally gone. But pineapple is the number
four most common answer. I'm sorry, Maddie, no er, thank you,
thank you, Hi Star, who's this Audrey?
Speaker 5 (25:03):
Hey?
Speaker 1 (25:03):
We got a whole crew here to answer this question. Fantastic, guys. Well,
one hundred women were asked to name a fruit it
takes a long time to break into. And I just
heard a great guess, which was a pineapple. But that
was actually the number foe most common answer. So what
do you guys think it is?
Speaker 6 (25:19):
What do you guys think?
Speaker 1 (25:20):
A pomegranate? You gotta break into it, and even after
you do that, you're just going after all those little seeds, right,
you got it exactly? Yeah, that though, guys, I'm sorry,
is the number two most common answer, Ah Bomber, thank
you though, Sorry guys, Hi Star, Who's this said? Kayla, Kyla,
(25:44):
I've got a couple of good guesses. One hundred women
were asked to name a fruit that it takes time
to break into and so far I heard pineapple, which
was the number four most common answer, and just heard
pomegranate and that was the number two most common answer,
but not the top one. What do you think it is?
You're gonna say coconuts. Out of all of these fruits
(26:04):
on the list, there's only one of them that I've
seen people bust out a hammer to get into coconuts.
The time to answer?
Speaker 5 (26:10):
Where to go?
Speaker 1 (26:13):
Yeah, you're going to check out the Frederick Meyer Gardens
and Sculpture Parks. Such an awesome time over there. Perfect,
and we'll do it again tomorrow. Battle of the Sexes
each weekday eight to fifteen here on Starminar five point seven.
Back in Schmidty and today Schmitty. In the news, especially
if you're an NFL fan, you're seeing cuts happening around
the league. Is they trimmed down to those fifty three
man rosters, And it's always kind of like bittersweet because
(26:35):
you get to se who makes the team, but then
you lose guys like the Lions are cutting. You know,
fan favorite offensive lineman, Dan Skipper, He's the one who
woe was that he he caught, caught, he tried to
They called his touchdown back. He was the offensive lineman
I think that went into the end zone and caught one,
that very controversial one that he.
Speaker 2 (26:52):
Was one that checked in though, right, yes, that's what
I'm talking about.
Speaker 1 (26:55):
Yeah, Dan Skipper, gone Hendon Hooker, our third round quarterback
that we took a chance on. Looks like that was
a bust. Unfortunately, like he's not going to make the team,
and you know what happens. Michael Jordan famously cut from
his freshman high school basketball team. Greatest Player of all
Time lit a fire underneath that. We talked about that
all the time. I want to know what you've ever
been cut from, so really quick.
Speaker 2 (27:16):
I do want to point out what Dan Campbell's wife
Holly posted on Instagram yesterday because I thought it was
really nice. She said, this is the hard part thinking
of every single player chasing their dreams and the people
who love and cheer them on. Making the team or
getting cut does not change your worth it just changes
your next step keep going. And I thought that was
really cool of an NFL coach's wife to make sure
(27:39):
that that message was out there.
Speaker 8 (27:40):
You know.
Speaker 1 (27:40):
And it's something that you could pull from, definitely when
you're talking to your own kids about getting cut, or
even yourself if you're trying to go out for something
that you just don't quite make it on that first
time or this time around. I remember being cut from
the very first thing that I ever really tried out for,
Smitty I. It was a musical, actually a musical slow
play in the fourth grade about Thomas Edison and I'm
(28:04):
not It's called the Electric Sunshine Man. And there was
one person who got to play Thomas Edison the non
singing version, and then one person who said, who was
Thomas Edison who sang? I tried out for both parts,
thinking that I could get both roles and that that
would be the greatest thing ever. I mean, give me
an oscar now. I got fourth place for the non
(28:24):
one and I got second place for the singing Thomas
Edison and I didn't get either part, and I was devastated.
Speaker 2 (28:31):
Were you just out of the musical entirely? That it
was like a two persons.
Speaker 1 (28:37):
These were all for solos, like everybody, lot of kids
had parts and stuff, but these were for like the
main leads in this very first musical I ever went
out for. And I was so distraught, especially about the
singing one, because I thought the kid who got the
singing role, I didn't think he was very good. He
later went to jail, not for just saying I was
so destroyed by it, and I, you know what, I
(28:59):
can't look at a light to this day without thinking
about how I was robbed from being Thomas.
Speaker 2 (29:04):
What did your parents say to you? Because that's what
we always hope sticks.
Speaker 1 (29:08):
Interestingly enough, my mom was the fourth grade teacher and
the director of said play. She did not have to
do with the casting.
Speaker 2 (29:16):
Oh gosh, you're real bad.
Speaker 1 (29:17):
The music teacher did the casting. And she also, you know,
she said later, She's like, hey, just gotta go to
the person who did the best in their audition. And
I mean, I guess I lived with it, but like
I said, I was better. I carried it. Schmitty.
Speaker 2 (29:29):
I was bummed. I got cut from pitcher my freshman
year of high school softball. Yeah, and I pitched from
We started regular pitch in first grade. I pitched first
to eighth grade. No kidding, but there was turns out
some behind the scenes drama with the coach and members
of my family.
Speaker 1 (29:45):
When we get cut from things, do we always have
to find like that, like the reason why.
Speaker 2 (29:49):
Like I got caught from track and I had a party.
I was like, Coach Jenny, thank you so much. My
parents just really wanted to keep me active and running
is the worst thing ever. So I love you for that.
Speaker 1 (30:02):
No one door closes, another one opens up. Oh a
fine point seven itutes back and shine. Always hear a
little boost for your day. It's feeling good right now. Man.
Speaker 2 (30:10):
I love our bus drivers and for Lucas Champion, a
bus driver for the Fairfax County Public Schools in Virginia,
he decided that first day of school he was really
going to show up. I'm talking a full black tuxedo
to pick those kids up. Champions sat down with People
magazine and said the decision to rewar his groomsman tuxedo
(30:32):
from ten years ago was a spontaneous choice. The night
before school, his entire family was together listening to music
when zz Top's Sharp Dressed Man came on, and he said,
whenever I'm trying to get ready for a big event
or a fancy event. I'll put on that song. It's
just my little ritual, and it sparked in my head.
(30:53):
Tomorrow is the first day of school. That's a pretty
big event. I'm gonna do this. So he did. He
showed up on his bus route dressed head to toe
in an absolute nuices of dress, and he said he
got the reaction he was hoping for. Parents were over
the moon, kids couldn't get enough. Even teachers said, this
(31:14):
is really turned around the first day, just giving kids
something awesome to talk about and connect with on the bus.
It's a big deal. Despite all the really great feedback, though,
Champion admits wearing a tuxedo during a Virginia summer last
week was a bit difficult, telling the magazine I was dripping,
I had a rag behind me that I was just
(31:35):
constantly wiping my head, my brow pretty much everywhere. But
we gotta suffer for our art. So cheers to you,
sharp dressed man. The photo excuse me, has gone everywhere.
Speaker 1 (31:48):
I mean, honestly, a school bus is really just a
really big yellow limousine, right, I mean, it's not that
much different.
Speaker 2 (31:54):
It's a good spot to meet new friends.
Speaker 1 (31:56):
All right's really speaking of one sweet ride to another.
A seven year old boy he decided to he wanted
to launch his own business, all right. In this business,
by the way, I'm gonna tell my son to steal it,
and you could too, because he went around passing out
flowers offering a pretty clever service. Five bucks a week
and he will roll your garbage cans out to the
curb before trash day and bring them back afterwards. Honestly,
(32:19):
that sounds awesome, especially as we go into fall and winner,
I really hate doing it every winter. Well, a whole
bunch of neighbors signed up for this, and some of
them in, you know, just impressed by his determination, his hustle,
and one of the families asked him what he was
actually saving the money for, and his response, many a Lamborghini.
Well that sparked an idea. One of the family members
(32:40):
of that customer went ahead and emailed the general manager
of the local Lamborghini dealership, who called back within six
minutes and actually set up a massive drive by just
for this little young entrepreneur. Pretty awesome. The videos have
gone viral. Check this out, dude, smile.
Speaker 7 (33:10):
You like that on Buddy, Yeah me.
Speaker 1 (33:12):
Too, Yeah me too. Dad's ready to get behind that lambeau.
But just not about the flashy cars. Only it was
about the community rallying behind that young little dreamer. So
for that one afternoon, the whole block got to turn
into a supercar show Antonia.
Speaker 2 (33:26):
Anybody one of my Seraani drive by, you know my
number with my beautiful friends at Ziggler.
Speaker 1 (33:31):
Feeling good coming at you a couple of times today,
Always here to give you something awesome to take with
you into your day. Put a smile on your face.
Let's do it tomorrow six forty five and nine twenty
on Star Mack and Schmidty in the morning weekday starting
at six am on Star one oh five point seven
