Speaker 1 (00:02):
Wa wa wakem It gets my day going and makes
me laugh.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
I of it.

Speaker 3 (00:10):
Mac and Schmitty in the Morning on Star one oh
five point seven.

Speaker 1 (00:14):
William, Good morning, Schmitty, good morning.

Speaker 3 (00:16):
Welcome into your Tuesday. I could say it all week long,
the final Tuesday of February Schmitty and.

Speaker 4 (00:21):
Boy, I'm excited because all you're gonna hear from me
today is this going to be almost fifty degrees out there,
Ladies and gentlemen, I'm talking five zero. So if there's
a few area locations that might have a little patio,
they wouldn't mind opening up. I know. I saw everybody
yesterday like, oh, it really is seasonal effective disorder, because

(00:41):
as soon as the sun hits my face, it feels
like quitting my job and never doing anything except laying
around again.

Speaker 3 (00:47):
And the big difference between today and yesterday is you're
also going to get it with some sunshine. It looks
like today in the list Simons, absolutely beautiful, and it does.
It does make you want to get outside. I know
that it was much easier to get my kids out there.
Who made a big snowman yesterday and I was like, oh,
just in time for it to exist for maybe like
a day and a half and then it's gone.

Speaker 4 (01:09):
Our snow is gone at our whole backyard is just
green grass as of yesterday afternoon. But my kids walked
home from school. That's how nice it was. Oh, it
just feels good. But remember, everybody, this is fake spring.
So you're gonna really love it and it's gonna make
your heart happy. And then it is still February, so
we'll get dumped more. But I just we can enjoy

(01:31):
it with a caveat that is fake spring. I think
we've got about three more fake springs until we really
feel safe.

Speaker 3 (01:38):
I like how you just threw the asterisk next to it, right,
You just put the it's still Michigan as strinks next
to whatever the deputary.

Speaker 4 (01:46):
What I'm saying is, don't go to work today and
just spend time outside. You want us to write your
little doctors, No, just send a DM.

Speaker 5 (01:51):
Along movies, music and all the gossip in one place.

Speaker 3 (01:56):
It's the celebrity scoop on Star one oh five two
point seven.

Speaker 4 (02:01):
Well, we have to start with the loss of a
music legend. Singer ROBERTA. Flack has passed away, rising to
fame in the seventies, with her version of the song
the first time ever I saw Your Face, but another
well known one killing Me Softly with his song of Course,
covered by the Fujis back in the nineties with Lauren
Hill on the track. Flack had numerous pop and R

(02:23):
and B hits, working with huge names. Her last album
came out in twenty twelve. She did Let It Be Roberta,
a collection of Beatles covers. Now in twenty eighteen, she
actually had to leave the Apollo Theater during a performance
due to illness, and her management later revealed she had
suffered a stroke. In twenty twenty two, a rap had

(02:45):
announced Flack was diagnosed with als. Roberta was only eighty well,
only eighty eight, but I still consider that young when
how with how incredible she looked even when we saw
her back in twenty twenty. Very interesting. She was supposed
to get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame
decades ago, but for some reason they were never able

(03:06):
to set up the ceremony. So now the organization behind
that is actually reaching out to her family to see
if they would like to do this posthumously, So that
could be cool.

Speaker 3 (03:14):
Whatever I think of Roberta Fleck I think of an
artist artist, you know what I mean, like one of
when you think of your favorite artist's favorite artists.

Speaker 1 (03:21):
They love ROBERTA.

Speaker 3 (03:22):
Flack Like she's been around and just been influencing people
for a decades now.

Speaker 1 (03:27):
Just an incredible life.

Speaker 4 (03:27):
Well when you look at who she's worked with, just sad,
sad stuff. Alec Baldwin snapped over one hopeful comedian bringing
up the rust case. So check this out. Baldwin was
loading luggage into the back of his suv in New
York when someone trying to be a Trump impersonator and

(03:48):
I'm sure trying to do some kind of bit, walked
up to him on the street and started kind of
needling him about everything from the twenty twenty four presidential
election to his criminal case. The video was posted to
x yesterday. Apparently this comic is named Jason Scoop. He
was throwing zingers and when the rest case came up,

(04:10):
Eleck was less than thrilled.

Speaker 2 (04:11):
With the blue.

Speaker 4 (04:12):
Yes, my kids live in this building, right, but I
want you to know some carav Okay, I snapped your
neck and half and break your neck. Writer you okay, okay, yeah,
he said, listen, my kids are in this building. You
need to back off. At one point, he says, listen,
if you do not get that camera out of my
face right now, we are going to have a major problem.

(04:33):
Kind of give him a little slap on the shoulder. Whooh,
you don't want to get in the way of him.
In the rest.

Speaker 1 (04:37):
That was Alec Baldwin and that departed right there, ladies.

Speaker 4 (04:39):
Gentlemen, clearly Finally a very big announcement from NBC News. Yesterday,
Lester Holt, the anger and managing editor of NBC Nightly
News for ten years, announced he is stepping down from
the long running broadcast. He'll continue to be a fixture
at the network. He is keeping his full time role
at Dateline, but said he's done. At the beginning of

(05:01):
the summer, he sent out a memo to staff within
NBC saying, I want to share with you a big
decision I've made about my future at NBC News, A
future I'm happy to say, well keep me here for
years to come in doing what I love. He said.
It's time for me to step away from my role
as anchor at the News. But before we play the
walk off music, I do have another announcement. I'm excited

(05:23):
to report I will be continuing as anchor of Dateline,
but for the first time in a full time capacity,
whereby I'll be expanding my footprint on the broadcast and
crafting Dateline hours on subjects I care deeply about. He
says that he's really thrilled to be able to work
more closely with his Dateline people and attract new viewers

(05:44):
in new places. But beginning of the summer he is
done on nightly news and they have not officially talked
about who his predecessor will be.

Speaker 1 (05:51):
Honestly, this bums me out.

Speaker 3 (05:54):
I feel like Lester Holt was such a universally appealing
news person in times as crazy as the ones we're
living in. Having somebody that you trust like that behind
the anchor desk every night, I feel like is a
big loss.

Speaker 4 (06:06):
Not sure who will be coming up after Lester, but
the full announcement is for you with your scoop at
West Michigan Star dot com.

Speaker 3 (06:14):
Sometimes because I'd get a good feeling, let's pump a
little positivity into this Tuesday morning, feeling good and starting
a five points seven ins Mack and Schmidti and this
just proves those dreams of hitting it big on the
lotto and running off into the sunset. Are not quite
dead yet because at Kent County Lottery Club hit big time,

(06:35):
scoring at two point eight six million dollar jackpot. Now
this actually happened on the Lotto forty seven drawing the
night before Thanksgiving, which I think would be so cool.
The wedding ticket purchased at Kuoit Libation station, which love
the name of by the way, Quoite Libation Station in
northeast Grand Rapids. One of the winners saying the night
of the drawing, I checked the numbers around ten pm

(06:57):
and realized we had won. At first I text the
club members then thought, as you give them McCall so
they knew I wasn't just playing a trick on them.
We have known each other for many years, but formed
a lottery club just two years ago. It's really amazing
feeling they hit a huge jackpot like this together they did.
They followed Schmidty and every good lawyer's advice remained anonymous Schmitty.

(07:17):
But they did out for the lump sum payment two
million bucks split three ways, so after taxes, they each
took home four hundred and seventy five thousand dollars which
makes yeah, uncle Sam the biggest winner out of any
of them in that lotto club. So really, Schmitty, it's
like you and I won. You and I and the
American taxpayer, We're the real winners in this sewarn area.

Speaker 4 (07:38):
Honestly, I think the bigger positive, no, is that you
were able to find people you trusted to go in
on something like this as well.

Speaker 1 (07:43):
Oh yeah, no kidding, All.

Speaker 4 (07:44):
Right, let's talk about the community of Portage rallying around
one of their favorite Walgreens employees. See After surviving a
hit and run a couple of weeks ago, forty seven
year old Terry Day aka TJ has been recovering in
the care of his sister near Chicago. But even though

(08:04):
he's in Chicago right now, his big family back in Portage.
As I'm on the mind. The incident took place when
he was riding his bike home from work. He was
actually struck by a vehicle and then the vehicle took off.
TJ experienced a concussion and other minor injuries. He's been
a cashier at a Walgreens and Portage for over a decade,
and he has some reservations about driving. Sets why he

(08:27):
bikes to work every day, a round trip of more
than eight miles. His bike also lost in the accident.
But because everyone just loves TJ, not only have they
been sending tons of supportive messages and well wishes, they've
also launched a GoFundMe, which as of yesterday afternoon raised

(08:48):
more than twenty thousand and five hundred dollars to help
with medical expenses and if he feels up to it,
help him buy a car for his commute. This is
really incredible stuff. And his sister Kelly sitting down on
Zoom with thirteen on your Side talking about how so
much of his recovery is because of his portage.

Speaker 2 (09:07):
Fam.

Speaker 6 (09:07):
I think it's been really a central part of his
healing and his recovery because he's like just one hundred
percent better than he was a couple of days ago.
And I think a large part of it is just
that outpouring of love.

Speaker 7 (09:20):
Thanks for all the support that you've given me, you
know myself, and again thanks to the er and everybody
helping me out.

Speaker 4 (09:33):
Did you tell TJ's just a good guy?

Speaker 3 (09:35):
You know, same drugstore for like ten years there. You're
becoming a part of that fabric of neighborhood for sure.
Way to pay them back. That's unbelievable. Twenty thousand bucks.
All right, feeling good Coming at you a couple times
a day. I always want to perk you up with
some great story, especially when it's in your own backyard.

Speaker 1 (09:51):
Just like Schmitty told you, We'll do it again. Coming
up at nine twenty this.

Speaker 3 (09:54):
Morning, Beck and Schmidty's feeling good. Open your day with
positivity powered by Overhead Door Company. We have Grand Rapids
on Star one oh five point seven.

Speaker 5 (10:03):
Movies, music, and all the gossip in one place.

Speaker 3 (10:07):
It's the celebrities gup on Star one oh five point seven.

Speaker 4 (10:11):
Let's start with an update out of Rome. The Vatican
has issued a health update on Pope Francis I talked
about this yesterday. Still listed in critical condition, but they
say there's been a slight improvement and the Pope has
actually resumed some work activities. The Pontiff has spent the
last ten nights in a Roman hospital, where he's undergone

(10:32):
blood transfusions and has been diagnosed with mild kidney failure
as well as double pneumonia. Of the latest update reveals
the eighty eight year old is suffering from pneumonia in
both lungs, but has not had any more respiratory crises.
The slight kidney insufficiency was of little concern. He does
continue to receive supplemental oxygen. Doctor say his prognosis still

(10:56):
remains guarded, but they are doing everything they can. The
Pope did receive the Eucharist yesterday morning and then resumed
working yesterday afternoons, so certainly hope that he continues on
this upward movement.

Speaker 3 (11:12):
Yeah, I mean, double pneumonia when you're that, you know,
at that age, just not something to mess around.

Speaker 4 (11:17):
That's what they were talking about yesterday again. That prognosis
guarded because of his age and fragility, so good doctors. Nonetheless,
Daniel fishel a Boy Meets World in White the beef
with Maitland war So if you remember back in the
late nineties of Boy Meets World, the two both starred

(11:37):
together and they have since fallen out. In fact, just
a couple of years ago, Maitland was caught out on
the street by a photog and actually talked about being
at odds with some of her old friends on set
Girl Meets World, that spin off that took place just
a few years ago had the two of them starring
in a few scenes together, but apparently not even speaking

(11:59):
to each other. Well, the Pod Meets World episode decided
to invite Maitland on the episode dropping yesterday and check
this out.

Speaker 2 (12:08):
Maybe have a more broad general question for you is
do you hate us?

Speaker 7 (12:13):
No?

Speaker 1 (12:14):
I don't you.

Speaker 6 (12:15):
Okay, I think that you hate me because you wouldn't
speak to me on when we would go to Groomy's
world and everything, and that's hurtful.

Speaker 2 (12:25):
That was, okay, I wouldn't speak to you.

Speaker 4 (12:26):
No, I didn't talk to you.

Speaker 6 (12:28):
No, not really, I don't.

Speaker 3 (12:29):
I don't.

Speaker 2 (12:30):
I don't feel as though I was not good with you,
but I definitely didn't have a relationship with you. That
was like, oh my gosh, my long lost friend Mayland.

Speaker 1 (12:42):
But I was working fun.

Speaker 2 (12:45):
It was a very very difficult set. So you don't
listen to the podcast regularly, But your overall opinion of
it is that we are negative about Michael and Ben
and the show.

Speaker 6 (12:57):
Be honest about this. You're trying to go with me
now to get the ratings because you know that people
will be interested in Maitland.

Speaker 4 (13:02):
I don't know you, guys.

Speaker 7 (13:04):
I just Wanttland. Remember good times.

Speaker 2 (13:06):
I'm Maitland. Sorry, I'm not the one who wanted to
go for ratings. I'm the one who texted Will to
ask for your phone number so that, like adults, we
could have a conversation off the air.

Speaker 4 (13:18):
Oooh yeah. It continued to get even more heated. There
was talk of a Facebook message that was sent back
in twenty thirteen from Maitland to Danielle that she ignored
Danielle Glames, who weren't even friends. I didn't see the message. Meanwhile,
Will Fredell and Right are strung are just like good
this is awkward, but I will tell you I listened
to the whole episode yesterday. It is really good. Eventually

(13:40):
things did calm down a bit, but if you want
to check it out Pod meets World on our iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 3 (13:46):
I had no idea that the panga could be so caddy.

Speaker 4 (13:49):
See they've been going at each other a few times
in the press over the past few years. Yeah, and
finally it's back Fire Festival Too, announced yesterday. If you
are unfamiliar with the original Fire Festival, it went down
in twenty seventeen, where customers were led to expect an

(14:10):
extravagant experience with high end accommodations, celebrity chef cooked meals.
Tickets ranged from five hundred bucks to twelve thousand dollars. Instead,
you'll remember the videos, guests arrived for a two week
experience and instead received boxes with pieces of bread and
cheese on them. Their lodging was in the form of

(14:32):
FEMA disaster tents. Organizer Billy McFarland actually pled guilty to
wire fraud, spent four years in prison, and has to
pay more than twenty six million dollars in restitution. Well
it's okay because it's back. Fire Festival two is going
to be a brand new event taking place in Mexico

(14:53):
May thirtieth to June second. The slogan Fire Festival two
is real, with tickets starting fourteen hundred bucks. This is
what he had to say to ABC News.

Speaker 6 (15:02):
What makes Fire so cool is that we are selling
the experience of fire. I want to be one of
the first festivals that can sell out with no artists.

Speaker 4 (15:10):
He said. There'll be unforgettable performances, immersive experiences, and an
atmosphere that redefines creativity and culture. No musical acts have
officially been announced yet, but you could pay upwards of
one point one million dollars for this fans will actually
this time be staying on a private yacht.

Speaker 3 (15:30):
Fool me once? Shame on you. Fool me twice? Smitty,
shame on me?

Speaker 4 (15:35):
Can you fool I mean the guy who's twenty six
million dollars. I'm hoping this has to be somewhat of
a success or he would be just an absolutely terrible
human being.

Speaker 3 (15:43):
Anybody who puts down a deposit in advance is literally
the dumbest human being out there.

Speaker 4 (15:48):
Right now, all right, all of your celeb scoop at
West Michigan Start dot com.

Speaker 1 (15:51):
I one of too.

Speaker 3 (15:52):
It's Mack and Schmitty and normally we save parent confessions
for Wednesday. Schmitty, is this your bad here? You got
something you want to admit?

Speaker 4 (15:58):
Ah? Yeah, And thankfully my son saved saved me, because
I would have felt so terrible about this. It's a
very big day in the Schmidty house. My son turned
seven today, so it's his birthday, and as everybody knows,
one of the biggest parts of your birthdays the birthday
treats at school, which we had planned two plus weeks ago.

(16:20):
We talked, you know, Chris and I my husband. We said,
this will be perfect. It's all packaged for good.

Speaker 3 (16:25):
What do you guys pick because I'm always afraid, like,
you know, somebody's allergies, We.

Speaker 4 (16:28):
Don't because his school doesn't allow it. So on Sunday Sunday,
we're sitting at dinner and he's like, man, I can't
believe my birthday is coming up in a couple of days.
And we're like, yeah, it's gonna be awesome. And he goes,
I can't wait to see what my goodie bags are
going to be. And I see Chris look to him

(16:50):
kind of confused, goes goodiebags. Buddy goes, yeah, I'm my
goodie backs for school. And I look at him and
I go' was that pal? And he says it again?
And then all of a sudden, what you were talking about?
In the deep recesses of my mom mind? Because every
mom will know this, right, we put every piece of
knowledge we possibly can from every school email somewhere in

(17:14):
a compartment of our brain. I go, oh, my gosh,
I feel like I remember at the very beginning of
the school year, one of the checklist items from his
teacher was, hey, school doesn't allow treats to be brought in,
whether they're handmade or store bought, so a really fun
way to celebrate your goodie bags. And I went, oh
my god, I've just put together thirty goodie bags in

(17:38):
the next eighteen hours. So we're sitting and I see
Chris panicking, and I was like, okay, we'll just like
I hopped online. I found something because he wanted something
Lego related, and I was like, sweet, here we go prime.
This will be coming four am to eight am tomorrow.
So I rush home from the show and I'm putting

(17:58):
together Chris went out Myron gift bags, and so I'm
putting all these lego things together. I'm making tags, I'm
writing each individual name for all thirty kids of his class.
I'm getting stickers, and I'm just like, oh my gosh.
Thank the Lord he said something, because otherwise this morning,
Chris would have shown up a drop off with all
of these streets, and his teacher would have been like,

(18:19):
we can't accept these. Yeah, And can you imagine how
devastating it would be to be the kid that does
not have anything to give your class for your birthday,
Like he would never forget that. That would be an
absolutely triggering moment. For a seven year old. I think
it would be during that day. Seven year olds are resilient, though.
I feel like having an entire batch of all of
the treats that you plan to bring to school that

(18:39):
you could then have for yourself would not only be
a nice consolation prize for your seven year old, I'll
bet your husband wouldn't have been super upset about that.
So interesting because I remember my fifth birthday where nobody
showed up because everyone was on spring break, and my
parents gave me a birthday party with stuffed animals. So
I'm gonna tell you, a seven year old will never
forget the fact that we did not have a birthday

(19:01):
goodie treat for him. So those are going to school
this morning. And I thought to myself as I'm rushing
through making tags for each individual kid in his class,
there have got to be parents out there that have
had a major oops for a birthday. And when I
put this on Facebook, I got a couple of really
fantastic stories. Christy knows this all too well. We picked

(19:23):
up a new vehicle for my one daughter's birthday on
a different daughter's birthday. I still hear about that one.

Speaker 3 (19:33):
I actually once got a puppy Smiddee, the dog that
I had from the time I was a nine year
old until I was in twenty on my sister's birthday.

Speaker 4 (19:42):
See and hard, It's really hard. When did you either
mess up or nearly mess up your kid's birthday? Six one, six, four, five, eight,
one oh five seven And again, just a big thank
you to my son for saving me from that near mess.

Speaker 3 (19:58):
Smitty so stall, Yes she is, but I gotta think
only gonna become even more salty with age. Yeah, that's begun.

Speaker 1 (20:08):
What's up? Smiled?

Speaker 4 (20:08):
It literally pains me to say this because I am
turning into like such a mom. But this was two
weekends ago. You guys will know the Rascal Flats Brad
van Andel and I was going to meet a bunch
of friends downtown and I was walking from our work
garage to lumber Baron, which is in the Amway, and
the amount of youths I saw wearing jean shorts and

(20:33):
tiny jean skirts when it was I clocked it eleven degrees.
I walked by one group and literally thought I was
saying it under my breath, really thought I was saying
it under my breath. Go oh, mackeh, where are your parents?
And then they both turn around.

Speaker 5 (20:51):
And I was like, oh, you guys look really cute.

Speaker 4 (20:55):
I posted this to my TikTok and it is at
almost eight thousand views of people going you're not old,
I promise. And then I look at their profile and
I'm like, you're fifty eight years old. You would know.

Speaker 3 (21:10):
Really so stalky at least you didn't go with your
mom's would be so disappointed. Right, excuse me, I just
got this neezes right in the middle of that, right now.
But I know for a fact that you had friends
that called you out for this very thing that you
were famous for being the person who was always freezing
because you weren't dressed appropriately.

Speaker 4 (21:29):
I just never wore cold. That doesn't mean not just appropriately.
You might be wearing seventeen layers. And maybe you don't
need a coach.

Speaker 5 (21:34):
Okay, movies, music and all the gossip in one place.

Speaker 3 (21:41):
It's the celebritiescoop on Star one oh five point seven.

Speaker 4 (21:45):
Well, the Kardashians just a small part of Hollywood mourning
the loss of one of Hollywood's most famous stylists. It
was announced just a couple days ago that Jesus Guerrero
passing away tragically at the age of thirty four. Weren'd
with some of the biggest names Kim Chloe, Kylie, Jennifer Lopez,
Katy Perry, Jessica Alba. Lots of tributes have been pouring

(22:08):
in and it has hit the Kardashians especially hard. He
was Kylie's personal stylist. While she still has not officially
spoken out, it has been learned that she is going
to be covering the entire funeral cost and any expenses
around this. Kim and Chloe, however, sharing to their Instagram
stories that their heart was breaking for their grieving sister,

(22:29):
emphasizing in their world, the glam squad they call it,
really becomes family. They travel with you on vacations, They're
part of birthdays, baptisms, they know your kids and this
was a really devastating blow. It's a very much the
message echoed from a lot of other celebrities as well.
It just sounds like Jesus was such a good, good

(22:50):
person and had no idea what happened.

Speaker 3 (22:54):
I mean, to build up a client list like that
at that age, I mean, pretty unbelievable in its own
ride too. I'm sure obviously a very talented person of
nothing else.

Speaker 4 (23:03):
Jennifer Garner's partner, John Miller, is reportedly struggling with her
relationship with ex Ben Affleck, so Garner has kind of
adopted the role of marriage counselor if you ask friends,
to her ex husband, who, by the way, is now
officially divorced from Jennifer Lopez that was made official a
couple of days ago. The role, however, doesn't sit well

(23:25):
with her partner, Miller. He says he understands they have kids,
but doesn't really love sharing her. One source says John
is trying to deal with Ben and Jen's relationship by
mostly staying quiet, but it's really hard to do that.
He knows that Ben has to be around as a
father and he's more than okay with that, but he
wants to be the man in the relationship. John only

(23:45):
talks about Ben when Jen talks about Ben or when
the kids talk about him. He does not bring him up.
Unprompted and said that there need to be some serious
boundaries re established between Garner and her ex.

Speaker 3 (23:57):
You know, I was refreshing about that, and I think
that's super relatable to anybody.

Speaker 1 (24:02):
He's gotta deal.

Speaker 3 (24:02):
With, you know, blended families and after the fact. It's
always a little bit awkwardness.

Speaker 4 (24:07):
And did you catch this week's episode of The Daily
Show with John Stewart where he accidentally sliced his hand
open live on the air. The gesture was made while
he was talking about the billions of dollars of federally
funded pharmaceutical subsidiaries. He got so heated he smashed his

(24:28):
coffee mug on the desk and whoops, need a little
trip to the er afterwards.

Speaker 1 (24:33):
We've already paid for him with our subody. I'll be
going to the hospital.

Speaker 4 (24:43):
He actually see the blood running down his hand as
he finishes this segment.

Speaker 1 (24:48):
Isn't that what the prop master is supposed to be for?

Speaker 3 (24:50):
Isn't John supposed to have a mug that like shatters
but in reality it's just shy.

Speaker 4 (24:55):
The guy does it for real, real life guys. He
really needed stitches does his own staf All of your
celeb scoop, including that video at West Michigan Star dot.

Speaker 3 (25:04):

Speaker 3 (25:22):
Ooh, I'm just thankful that COVID testing is no longer
such a prominent part of our lives, because, man, did
you feel a little nervous when you had to stick
that stick halfway to your brain just to find out
whether or not you're going to be off work for
the next.

Speaker 4 (25:35):
I'll be honest, I take that over parallel parking during
my driver's at test any day of the week. Six one, six, four, five, eight,
one oh five seven. One hundred men surveyed. Name a
test people get nervous to take? Got the number one answer.
You're going to see Patty be at Soaring Eagle with
Star one O five point seven, Good morning Star.

Speaker 3 (25:53):
Who's this Brandon? Brandon, Let's try and get you pat
Benatar ticket. It's gonna tell me. One hundred guys, we're
asked to name a test that people get very nervous
about taking. What do you think the top answer is there?

Speaker 1 (26:04):
Brandon?

Speaker 3 (26:05):
I would say their SATs? Who the ssat or act
is the number three most common answer. Sorry, Brandon, Oh Chuck,
all right, thanks, Hi star who's this Angela?

Speaker 1 (26:20):
Angela, I got a good guest from Brandon.

Speaker 3 (26:22):
When one hundred men, whereas to name a test people
get very nervous about taking, He said, the SATs or acts.
Either way, that was the number three most common answer, though,
So you got a chance here.

Speaker 1 (26:32):
What do you think it is? Angela?

Speaker 3 (26:35):
I'm gonna say a pregnancy test. You know, if I'd
said one hundred women, I would have thought pregnancy test
for sure, But it turns out to guys just as
nervous as ladies are.

Speaker 1 (26:47):
Pregnancy test is the top answer. Way to go, Angela.

Speaker 3 (26:50):
Yes, you are going to see Pat Banatar with Neil
Giraldo over at Soaring Eagle coming up in May.

Speaker 1 (26:57):
Congrats, thank you.

Speaker 3 (27:00):
This pregnancy test followed by drug test, then SAT ACT
and finally your driving test, grounding out those top answers
just like Schmidty said, parallel parking.

Speaker 1 (27:09):
It gets you every time, every time.

Speaker 3 (27:12):
Congratulations, Angela. Will do it again tomorrow, same time. Battle
of the Sex is eight fifteen here on Star Win
and five Floyd seven, Good morning too, It's back in
Schmitte and of course, if you've got kids that played
to U Sports, you know what a ridiculously intense place
it can be sometimes. And that's been true since the
dawn of you know, U Sports in general doesn't seem

(27:34):
to change. But I just had what I would consider
the most ridiculous experience I've ever had. And it was
a game that I'm coaching for third and fourth grade boys,
and it was actually after the game. Everything about the
game was so normal. It actually ended with a tie,
so there was no hurt feelings about wins and losses.
There was nothing that happened during the game that would

(27:55):
have stood out in a way that was like, oh man,
this this could lead to something. After the game, just
a very normal, great game. Kids were all awesome. After
the game, we are gathered out in the hallway and
you know, handing out snacks and stuff, and all of
a sudden, this guy starts walking up to me and
he goes, hey, hey, double zero on your team, And
I was like, I'm sorry, I don't know, and he

(28:17):
goes he goes he the one who elbowed my son
in the face.

Speaker 1 (28:22):
And I said, sir, I don't know.

Speaker 3 (28:23):
But what I do know is that We're talking about
a bunch of nine and ten year old kids that
were just out on a basketball court. I have no
idea what you're talking to. But these are just kids,
so you know, have a good day. And he goes,
is that the kid right there? And he starts walking
towards the child Schmitty and I just instinct kicked in

(28:43):
and I threw my board down or whatever that I
coached with, and I got in this guy's face. He
immediately and said, hey, buddy, you absolutely will not talk
to any of my kids. I'm like, you can talk
to me. This is my team. I'm like, I don't.
He goes, He's start screaming in my face, Schmitty, two
inches from my nose.

Speaker 1 (29:06):
There's other parents.

Speaker 3 (29:07):
Who is this scene all takes place, This all takes
place in a span of ninety seconds.

Speaker 4 (29:12):
We have like an ad at Ran like for this
exact reason.

Speaker 3 (29:15):
It was unbelievable. So I have this, you know, this
man screaming in my face. I just asked you whether
he was on your team. And I go, sir, I
don't know what you think is going on right now
or what or what happened, but I can tell you
that these are nine and ten year olds. These are
children who you are scaring right now. You need to
walk away immediately. And I'm not I wasn't doing it

(29:37):
like I was. You know, I was trying to de
escalate the situation and not match his you know, his
anger level, and just try and get him on the flick.
And he starts laughing in my face like he's about
to take a swing at me, and uh. And you
could see other parents. This is what was crazy. Mom's
in the background, schmitty. We're grinding all the kids and
bringing them into the bathroom. Yeah, so that they were protected.

(30:00):
They were basically doing active shooter drill right there, because
you never know when somebody's going to be an absolute
nut job like this.

Speaker 4 (30:05):
And you're the mom.

Speaker 3 (30:06):
Some of the other parents, some of the other parents,
a couple of the other dads start moving closer to
us as well as this guy gets in my face,
and I see my dad, who came down for the
weekend to go to the kids' games, standing behind the guy,
and I was like, dear Lord, please don't let seventy
seven year old veteran Bill just go crazy from behind
because he sees his son getting yelled at and you know,

(30:26):
possibly getting into an altercation.

Speaker 4 (30:28):
So what happened.

Speaker 3 (30:29):
The guy wound up realizing that A he was outnumbered
and B he was literally threatening a ten year old,
and so he wound up turning around and walking away
as the lady from YMCA comes out and is like,
what's going on here? Well, you know, and starts yelling
and all this stuff. We want up having to make
a report about it.

Speaker 4 (30:44):
I was gonna say, yeah, turn.

Speaker 3 (30:46):
Into a big thing. Parents reached out to me afterwards,
just talking about what an intense situation it was, and
all I kept thinking was like, dude, these are ten.

Speaker 1 (30:55):
Year olds in a basketball game.

Speaker 4 (30:57):
Oh we see these videos all the time, don't we.
I mean, it's so insane.

Speaker 3 (31:01):
And on top of it, the other thought that kept
coming to me afterwards was how bad do you got
to feel for like the refs of these things, who
are volunteers, by the way, or the umpire at your
kid's little league game, who literally just have parents that
treat them like garbage for no other reason than that
they're there, So.

Speaker 4 (31:16):
You know who, I feel bad for the kid?

Speaker 3 (31:18):
Yeah, yeah, I hope I did not see his son
out there while this was all going on.

Speaker 1 (31:25):
Which makes me thankful.

Speaker 3 (31:26):
And you know they did walk away without anything really
escalating to a point where it would have been insane.
But at the same time it's scared the living hack.
Not not out as some of the kids, but more
so I feel like out of the parents. Unbelievable. So
I mean it's youth sports guys. When you see it
out there and somebody getting out of hand, deep breath,
say something and keep calm, just take it in stride,

(31:46):
I guess, but unbelievable.

Speaker 5 (31:52):
Sometime douse that get a.

Speaker 3 (31:54):
Feeling, well, it's domino some positivity besides just this gorgeous
sun shine out there right now?

Speaker 1 (32:00):
What's making you feel good?

Speaker 4 (32:01):
SHMIDI, Well, it's the smallest citizens that sometimes makes the
biggest difference, like nine year old Brian Thompson, who set
out to raise five hundred bucks for a playground in
Flint through a fundraiser on Facebook and honor of her birthday.
This is according to the Burston Field House. Well, the

(32:21):
word spread and thanks to support from foundations, youth groups
and individual donors, nine year old brand raised over fifty
seven thousand dollars for a new kid's playground. She says,
I cannot wait for bigging little kids to be able
to play on our playground at Everston. I'm so excited.
Thank you everyone for the donations. Brianna is part of

(32:43):
two youth programs that are housed here at Person, the
Leading Ladies and the Chosen Few Arts Council. According to
the field House, she's the third generation in her family
who has benefited so positively from this community space. But
it was threatened there just was not enough funds to
fix things that needed to be fixed, according to James Avery,
the executive director. He said Brand's efforts have helped raise

(33:06):
the entire amount needed to fully fund the playground's construction,
ensuring our kids will have a safe and vibrant place
to play for years to come. We are celebrating Briand,
who we see as a representative of all children and
her efforts as we continue working to raise funds completing
our entire renovation and expansion project. Make no mistake. Without

(33:29):
Briand's fifty seven thousand dollars, this dream would not be
a reality. So, like I said, even the smallest citizens
can make the biggest change.

Speaker 3 (33:39):
From five hundred dollars to fifty seven thousands. Yeah, onn
real very cool, Swinnie, you hear about an engagement story
that seems really really sweet and then just sort of
ruins it for every other guy to come afterwards because
it was so good. That's one of them right here.
Because Ian Cochrane had been pretty convinced I'm sure that

(34:00):
he had found his forever person a long time ago,
because his engagement actually started more than three years ago.
This is super sweet. It just went in viral. See
Ian and his girlfriend Jessica. They had to navigate a
long distance relationship and one way they got through it
was Ian writing love notes to his girlfriend. Well, each

(34:21):
of those love notes. Unbeknownst to Jessica, the first letter
of each one was always darkened in a little bit more,
it was boldened, if you will. But other than the
fact that each and every letter had the first letter
doing that, she didn't think anything of it. There was
nothing significant about it. Well until last week when it
was all revealed to her that each and every one

(34:42):
of those love notes that her boyfriend Ian had been
sending for three years combined, when put in a specific
order to spell out will you marry me? This guy
knew she was the one three years prior to this
before they settled down together Sandy in San Francisco, and
basically just put this all together so that he could

(35:06):
ask her on one day when they were both you know,
down the line three years, but he's known that long
that she was for his forever.

Speaker 4 (35:13):
Personally bolded the first letter of.

Speaker 1 (35:15):
Each of eater of each love note.

Speaker 3 (35:18):
He boldened the first letter on it, and then when
put in a certain order, they spell out will you
marry me? So it wasn't insequential order, so she had
no idea. It wasn't like every time it's the next
letter or anything else like that. It was totally randomized.
You want to put it on a big board and
showing it to her four million views online later, one
of the cutests very sweet.

Speaker 4 (35:38):
It's got a ton of time on his.

Speaker 1 (35:40):
Hands, apparent three years worth of smitty. He's in love
without a doubt.

Speaker 3 (35:43):
I'll put the vide up for you right now at
West Michigan Star and not always here to provide that
positivity for you, to tell you amazing stories things going
on out in our world.

Speaker 1 (35:50):
We'll do it again to my marrow six forty five
and nine twenty Mack

Speaker 3 (35:53):
And Schmidty in the morning weekdays starting at six am
on Star one oh five point seven
