Speaker 1 (00:01):
Wake up.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
It gets my day going and makes me laugh.

Speaker 3 (00:08):
I love it.

Speaker 1 (00:08):
Mac and Schmitty in the Morning on Star one oh
five point seven.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
Good Mold Net Smitty Morning and Happy Friday.

Speaker 1 (00:14):
Happy is to Fridays to you. It is still a
chilly one. You know, we've been rinsing and repeating this
weather for sure, Tim's hovering around twenty degrees. But I
think that's different about today, Smitty's. It looks like most
of West Michigan might see some snow come down.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
Oh yeah, we got a winter weather advisory headed our way, folks,
so play very close attention that storm. Teammate forecast it's
going to go at least until tomorrow morning, depending on
where you're at. But yeah, we are hearing that. And
I know that Blake Harms was starting to set the
scene for possibly a couple of days off school next week.

Speaker 1 (00:47):
Really oh his predictor.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
Yet ready, I don't know. He said it's early, but
could could mean some some breaks.

Speaker 4 (00:53):
From school, movies, music, and all the gossip in one.

Speaker 1 (00:58):
Place, it's the Celebritiescoop. On Star one oh five point seven.

Speaker 2 (01:03):
Actress Gene Smart has come up with an idea to
help those affected by the LA wildfires, and looking at
the comments section, a lot of Hollywood agrees with her.
The Hacks actress, who, by the way, just picked up
a twenty twenty five Golden Globe back on Sunday night,
posted to Instagram, writing attention, with all due respect, during

(01:24):
Hollywood's season of celebration, I hope any of the network's
televising the upcoming awards will seriously consider not televising them
and donating the revenue they would have garnered the victims
of the fires and the firefighters who continue to fight
on those front lines. Now, Hollywood has already responded in
their own way, postponing the Critics' Choice Awards, postponing the

(01:47):
Academy Award nominations. The SAG Awards also canceled their live
in person nominations, and Big LA premieres for movies including
Unstoppable and The Last show Girl were canceled as well.
Think this is actually a really great and simple to
execute idea.

Speaker 1 (02:04):
Well simple as long as you're not those networks talking
about tens of millions of dollars. I think it makes
more sense to hold the awards, or some semblance of
the awards and donate all the proceeds that you get
from selling advertising, which is what these shows make money on,
to go toward the fire.

Speaker 2 (02:19):
Really, I think going to an award show right.

Speaker 1 (02:22):
Now seems really I don't disagree with that.

Speaker 2 (02:24):
And I don't know how a lot of celebrities can.
I've got more stars that have lost homes coming up
in next hour. Scoop Alec Baldwin is headed back to court,
but the trial is not for him. He is very
upset over getting prosecuted on that rust shooting tragedy because
he is now suing the prosecutors and investigators involved in

(02:47):
the case. The actor filed a lawsuit in New Mexico
yesterday alleging prosecutors and investigators engaged in malicious prosecution, abusive process,
intentional spoilation of evidence, and violated his civil rights. Baldwin's
attorneys are claiming that prosecutors became so fixated on convicting

(03:08):
Baldwin regardless of any merits on the case, that it
was a shocking moment to be dismissed improved back in July.
With this dismissal, they acted improperly. He's filing for damages.
His lawyer explains no verdict in this case can ever
undo the trauma caused by the state's threat of incarceration.

Speaker 1 (03:28):
However, it's really interesting because it's depending on how you
look at this. You would say Alec Baldwin received preferential
treatment or you would say he received extra harsh treatment,
both of the which just being because he's a celebrity,
all right.

Speaker 2 (03:40):
And then a big moment for UFC superstar Ronda Rousey,
her and hubby Travis Brown announced they have welcomed a
new baby girl, joining Big Sis, the three year old
that they have right now. This was such a cool moment.
She posted to Instagram where sister is finally meet and
big girls.

Speaker 1 (04:03):
Hey, she's so curfect.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
I would attempt the name, but I don't want to
be rude, and quite honestly, I can't. I can't pronounce it.
I think it's it's very very powiling. So I mean
the middle name is p A U O M A
h I N A K A I P I h A.
So if you'd like to check it out and see
the pigs really really happy family, mom and baby are

(04:29):
doing great. Your scoop is up at West Michigan Star
dot com.

Speaker 1 (04:35):
Sometimes does that get a good feeling Oh yes, heading
into a weekend that always feels good. Let us put
the cherry on top, all right, I'm feeling good on
Startwinal five point seven. It's Mack and Schmidty and I'm
always obsessed with the idea of just your life changing
in an instant when somebody wins the lotto. And that's
what's happened for Awayne County woman. And she got to
do this in such a cool way. She did not

(04:57):
follow the advice of you, Schmitty, or mostlawyers or accountants,
anybody who says stay anonymous after you and Catherine Martin,
sixty three years old from West Lynne, bought a ticket
back on September fourth drawing, and she said, I play
power Ball every week and use a special set of numbers.
The day after the drawing, I got a call from
my husband while I was at work, telling me that

(05:17):
he checked my Powerball ticket and I'd won one million dollars.
I was stunned and had a hard time believe in him. Honestly,
I still don't believe it. The coolest part dos but
the reason I'm doing this is because they then kept
it a secret to surprise their families. With at Christmas.
Imagine being at your mom and dad's house Christmas. More thing.
They're like, oh yeah, everybody, one more present. We won

(05:39):
a million dollars. I mean, how cool would that be?
Says She's gonna use that money for some of her
grandkid's college funds, which is awesome.

Speaker 2 (05:46):
So heads up, you cannot stay anonymous in Michigan.

Speaker 1 (05:49):
Oh.

Speaker 2 (05:50):
I talked to the experts though, because you can create
an LLC or do a whole bunch of stuff where
your name may not come out. I'm not any business manager,
but there are little loopholes. There will be signs of
schmitty ways. Yeah, y'all totally be here, all right. This
is an absolutely incredible story out of la We always
say when devastation strikes, look for the helpers. It's a
couple of lawyers who have stepped up in a really

(06:13):
big way. Gina is a mindset influencer. She's got a
podcast in YouTube channel, so quite a decent following, as
well as being a lawyer alongside her husband. And as
soon as those wildfires started to ravage southern California, she
stepped in. They started buying up hotel rooms, so displaced
families had somewhere to go. We've heard a lot about

(06:35):
the celebrities, which obviously they have the means to do that,
but don't forget that a lot of working class homes
have been affected by these fires as well, and when
people had just minutes to evacuate a lot of times
they had nowhere to go. In an update yesterday, Gina
and her husband said they have been absolutely blown away
by the amount of donations that have rolled in for this.

Speaker 5 (06:57):
Thank you so much for all the support and interests.
We're really overwmed with thank you that the monetary contributions
are coming in through the link, which is helping us.
We're able to get rooms. As of now, we have
filled fifty two hotel rooms. We've housed over one hundred
and sixty seven people, parents and children and pets. We
have over three hundred people on the request sheets still

(07:19):
seeking accommodation. So we're working on getting more rooms. And
now we're pivoting and we're going to do a care
package drive through. We're working on it for this Saturday,
so please stay tuned.

Speaker 2 (07:30):
Absolutely incredible. They've gone to other hotels, they've branched out
to other cities. At this point because of those fires
and say keep it coming because every cent is going
to go towards making sure families have what they need.

Speaker 1 (07:42):
And you're one hundred percent right it is. The celebrity
has been getting a lot of the FaceTime of this story,
but one hundred and eighty thousand plus people have been
evacuated from their homes, and the majority of which are
not celebrities. We need a place to go.

Speaker 2 (07:55):
Yeah, I do have that video up if you're interested
in hitting the link at West Michigan.

Speaker 4 (07:58):
Stacks Music and all the gossip in one place.

Speaker 1 (08:03):
It's the Celebrities gup on Star one oh five point seven.

Speaker 2 (08:07):
We'll head back to southern California, where more celebrities have
learned they've lost everything. Candy Spelling, Office star Rain Wilson,
both returning to ashes of what was once massive homes,
and also actor Jeff Bridges. This one seems extra heartbreaking,

(08:27):
though his rep confirmed his Malibu home he shared with
his family tragically lost in the Pacific Palisades fire. But
the four bedroom home has been in the Bridges family
for generations. It was actually inherited by Jeff, his brother
Bow Bridges, and their sister. It is packed with memories
that go back many generations. It was actually one of

(08:51):
the first places his family settled when they came over,
So it is absolutely heartbreaking to lose everything. It was
completely leveled in that Palace States fire.

Speaker 1 (09:00):
Yeah, I mean, as you just keep seeing the photos
and the videos and everything else, it's just unbelievable that
one hits.

Speaker 2 (09:05):
It's like man in generations of family memories gone in
mere minutes. Megan Markle and Prince Harry meanwhile supporting their
southern California neighbors by inviting those friends and even those
they don't know into their home, which has not yet
been impacted by wildfires that are still burning people. Confirms.

(09:29):
The couple have opened up their home to those in
need of evacuation. They live about ninety miles north of
the LA Area in that twenty nine million dollar estate.
In addition to assisting those, they're also working with their
Archwell Foundation to determine impactful ways to support the community.
They're looking for volunteer opportunities, especially to assist with mental

(09:51):
health recovery for those needing immediate help and want to
facilitate long term recovery efforts. These are all people that
you might not immediately think of that really need a
place to go. As an update, with those fires still burning,
ten people have now been confirmed dead, with almost ten
thousand structures that have been completely destroyed, while there are

(10:11):
still firefighters on the front lines. Finally, a big announcement
from one of our favorite artists, Teddy Swims, is going
to be a dead him and his girlfriend Rach White,
announcing yesterday they are expecting their first child together. And
if you wonder just how in love Teddy is with

(10:32):
his singer girlfriend, take a listen to this MTV interview
from a couple months ago.

Speaker 1 (10:36):
Man, my baby, right there, Marina is Race. She's the
best shinger in the world. I love that girl. Man,
She's incredible.

Speaker 2 (10:41):
Yeah, Rach making the big announcement on her Insta, writing,
we absolutely can't wait to meet you baby. Not sure
on any kind of timeline here, but pretty perfect timing.
Is Rache actually just turned twenty nine earlier this week,
So perfect timing to kind of give what's probably going
to be the greatest.

Speaker 1 (10:59):
Gift, and perfect timing for Teddy Swims, whose star is
on the rise and has never been brighter than right now.
That guy has had such an incredible lest twelve months
of his life. Are you kidding me?

Speaker 2 (11:09):
Got all that for you? With your scoop at West
Michigan Star dot him.

Speaker 1 (11:12):
You're back in Schmitty on starting a five points you
have it and you're asking what's the most annoying conversation
you have repeatedly with your spouse? I feel like this
is a trap, Smitty. I feel like you're gonna set
me up here.

Speaker 2 (11:23):
Well because I think a lot of people would immediately go,
what do you want for dinner?

Speaker 1 (11:28):
If that was right? Yeah, because it is the most
annoying it.

Speaker 2 (11:32):
Is, But I can beat that because there's nothing worse
than last night. Chris is out finishing up work. He
calls me and he's I know what it's going to be?
What do you want for dinner? And usually when we
talk about cooking, it's not nearly as annoying as this. Okay,
what do you want me to pick up for dinner?
I can handle. I can handle. What do you feel

(11:53):
like for dinner? Well, you know we've got we've got spaghetti,
we've got so we got blah blah blah. When he
called me and he like, hey, today went longer than
I thought. How about I just pick up some dinner.
What do you feel like? I my blood starts boiling
in my veins because I know we're about to sit
on the phone for twenty seven minutes and be like,
what do you feel like? Well, okay, I'm out this way,

(12:14):
so there's nothing really here. Oh what about this? Well,
you know I don't want you don't want fast food? Okay?

Speaker 4 (12:19):
Why?

Speaker 2 (12:20):
Oh I can't. And I just got so irritated. And
we haven't ordered out in forever because we're trying to
cut that out, you know, to save the money. And
so he's like, what any think. I said, well, I
mean I could kind of go for sandwiches. And I said, well,
I just had a sandwich that I made for lunch though.
I said, but I don't really feel like this is

(12:41):
just a really fast food and he was like, well,
I kind of felt like, you know, a burger or something.
I said, I don't know what about well this and
We're sitting here and I'm watching it the tick of
your time on the phone, and I was just like, Chris, babe,
I love you. My brain can't do this right now.
Like my lapt was open. I was doing stuff for
the show today and I was like yeah, pick up

(13:03):
whatever you want. I'm gonna shove it in my face.
Oh my goodness, what is it? Just any? But like
the picking up a meal conversation is so irritating to me,
and we're so bad at it. And then it came
home with exactly what I didn't want. But I ate
it because I'm a trash can well.

Speaker 1 (13:20):
And it doesn't matter, Like the answers don't matter. That's
the thing that drives everyone nuts about these conversations. My
wife and I. Everybody does the same thing, and it's always,
you know, it was for dinner tonight, And to be fair,
she cooks more than I do, but it's like four
to three nights per week or maybe closer to five
to two somewhere in there. And I always say the
same thing. If you're cooking it, I'm eating it. I

(13:41):
don't care what it is. You never make anything I
don't like. You don't need my permission to cook it.
Just make whatever you want for dinner. We don't need
to talk about it every day.

Speaker 2 (13:50):
Maybe it's different for us because I can only cook
two things.

Speaker 1 (13:54):
It's so or macaroni and jeez, the way that's one thing.

Speaker 2 (13:58):
Yeah, yeah, Chris, knows like if I offer, I'm like, oh,
cook tonight, He'll be like, did you want me to
pick up hot dogs to cut into your craft blues?
Because I can't cook that much. But man, when it
comes to trying to pick stuff up, then you have
the added challenge of, like your children somehow hearing the
speaker phone from wherever they are in the house. I
want running over. Is he talking about doggies?

Speaker 1 (14:21):
And I'm like, you will eat whatever it's.

Speaker 2 (14:24):
In that truck when he shows up. I know the
meal is such an annoying one, but do you have
a conversation with your spouse that you love them more
than life itself? But you got to remind yourself of
the wedding vows, because boy, you could just walk right
out that front door anytime it comes up.

Speaker 1 (14:40):
I'm gonna say the same thing to you that I
know you you do this in your head too, because
it happens to us every single winter. How the roads, Oh,
how the roads? How those roads?

Speaker 2 (14:49):
Yeah, I'm like, Chris doesn't do that. Yeah, I'm lucky.

Speaker 1 (14:52):
Every day if my friends know how those roads. I'm like,
it's now, look outside, they're fine and we talk.

Speaker 2 (15:00):
You know what honestly, I'll take that over everybody that
shows up at nine here and goes, oh, here's so
all bad at his own No, No, I didn't. I
did not drive in at four o'clock this morning and
it was sunshine and summertime apparently six one six, four
five eight, one oh five seven. What is the most
annoying conversation you have with your partner?

Speaker 1 (15:19):
Back and schmidty in the morning on Star one oh
five point seven.

Speaker 4 (15:23):
Key times, spill in two, take time, spill the two sweetheart.

Speaker 1 (15:27):
Well, I love the drama, especially when it's not ours
tea time right now and start one o five point
see can we do it every Friday? And by all
means give us your juice right your dirt too. Can
always hit us out Facebook at Instagram. That's West Michigan Star.

Speaker 2 (15:39):
This is an interesting one because I wonder how many
couples actually face this when it comes to New Year's resolutions.
We got this email says, good morning, I might be
a bad wife. I've always been into working out, but
my husband decided he wanted to make his fitness a
New Year's resolution, so we went to the gym once
together last week. And it was not my favorite. I

(16:00):
feel bad, but I can't really do what I want
to do. I can't go at my normal speed, and
my routine was all off. So I've been lying about
needing to work late or sneaking out to the gym
when he doesn't notice. I'm just hoping he gives up
in the next couple weeks and I don't have to
come out with the truth. I don't want to crush
his goal of getting healthy. But is this really jerk moved?

Speaker 1 (16:21):
Kind of it's a husband, I'm saying kind of, yes,
that's kind of how I'm feeling. Really, you're health cheating, SHMITTI.
That's what she's doing. She's health cheating.

Speaker 6 (16:29):
You know.

Speaker 2 (16:29):
It's hard I feel like for myself to comment on
this because I am not fit, But I know a
lot of people are so serious about a workout routine. Right,
Like there's friends of mine I would never ask to
go to the gym with. I would never take a
fitness class with, because I just know, like, your type
A self is not gonna love that. I'm like, where

(16:51):
are the freeways? Do you know how to get the
s elliptical turned on?

Speaker 1 (16:55):
Am I doing it right?

Speaker 6 (16:56):
You know?

Speaker 2 (16:56):
It's just like Oh that's not gonna work. I posted
this email up last night on our Facebook. Actually woke
up and had this talk back inside her iHeartRadio app
from Dawn.

Speaker 7 (17:06):
You know, maybe he is shy at the gym. Maybe
he needs some help learning. I think she should just
suck it up and spend some time with him. And
maybe it's his way of asking for help. I know
how hard it is when I first started out because
I didn't know what I was doing. It would have
been nice to have somebody to help me out and
show me around.

Speaker 1 (17:23):
See.

Speaker 2 (17:24):
See, that's a wife who cares, doesn't that Now that
makes that woman feel really really bad.

Speaker 1 (17:29):
Plus, let's be honest, middy, I mean it's a husband.
He was probably gonna give this up pretty quick. Anyways. Right,
we're all there.

Speaker 2 (17:36):
What do you think emails up at West Michigan, Star.

Speaker 4 (17:42):
Movies, music and all the gossip in one place.

Speaker 1 (17:46):
It's the celebrities goop on Star one oh five point seven.

Speaker 2 (17:50):
Well, a few celebrities have been able to return to
either their homes or what is left of their homes
as those wildfires in southern California continue to burn this morning,
and update. The death toll now stands at ten with
almost ten thousand structures burned. One of those Stars This
is Us actor Milo Ventimilia, who actually allowed an interview

(18:14):
with CBS Evening News last night talking about completely losing
his home alongside his wife, Jara Mariano. She is nine
months pregnant with their first child. They had just designed
and bought all of the nursery furniture gone. It was
ashes when he showed up to his home yesterday and

(18:36):
when asked how he was feeling knowing his home had
burned down, but then to physically be there and see it.

Speaker 8 (18:42):
Heavy, you know, you start thinking about man hits you
so quick. You started thinking about all the memories in
the different parts of the house and whatnot, and you'd
see your neighbor's houses and everything kind of around and
yard just breaks.

Speaker 2 (18:58):
You know, if you ever watched This Is Us, a
really pivotal part of that series was his home and
the show burning down, And he says, that is definitely
something that came to mind.

Speaker 8 (19:08):
You know, it's not lost on me. Life imitating art.
We got good friends, and we got good people were
working with and we'll make do. Yeah, we'll make do.
Wife and wife and baby and dog.

Speaker 2 (19:21):
Most important, wife, baby, and dog are most important. But
there's a really oh hard moment halfway through that interview
where he does start to break down. He had just
finished building the crib like two days before the fire hit.

Speaker 1 (19:33):
I mean, that's hard. You know, it's an on perspective thing, right,
Like it's heartbreaking that you lost your home and it
at the same time you're just so thankful when you've
got that little one, your dog, your wife and everybody
else safe.

Speaker 2 (19:43):
It's very numbing, very numbing. Speaking of those wildfires, and
update from the NFL came last night that big LA
Rams Minnesota Vikings divisional round game that was planned for
Inglewood at SOFI Stadium on Monday night, official moved. The
NFL saying in the interest of public safety, the Vikings

(20:04):
and Rams wild card game will be moved to Arizona.
The game will still be televised ESPN and ABC, scheduled
at eight o'clock Monday night.

Speaker 1 (20:12):
I mean, I know this details of who cares, but like,
what are the fans do? Who made plans to go
from like Minnesota to Los Angeles or LA? You know
what I mean? Who are LA who are planning to
go to the game?

Speaker 2 (20:22):
I'm wondering if they were already making different plans because
air traffic couldn't even get into Lax yeah, like three days.
So I mean they might have thought, well, maybe we
just I'm not sure, but hopefully fans will make it.
It'll be interesting though. I know obviously the Rams were
super excited about home field advantage, but bigger picture. Finally,
at Sharon with big news. He's launched a new foundation

(20:44):
to support music education in the UK, stressing how important
it was to his early career. The Ed Sharon Foundation
aims to provide inclusive, high quality music education for children
all around the country, with a particular focus on areas
where it is currently less accessible. They're looking to address
educational inequality in the UK. He talked about a big

(21:08):
survey that came out in twenty nineteen that found one
in four schools that serve disadvantaged communities have absolutely no
music whatsoever. He marked the launch by making surprise visits
to schools across the UK this week, saying music education
has shaped who I am. I've always enjoyed playing music

(21:29):
and it has led to some of the best moments
in my life. Every child should have access to that.

Speaker 1 (21:34):
Well, and he's not wrong. And something I thought he
was doing that was really cool during his big world
tour was he was going into music classrooms all around
the US and over in the UK when he was
out there and like playing music and bringing them presents
into those classes.

Speaker 2 (21:47):
He's buying instruments. Yeah, areas, all of your celeb scoop
at West Michigan Star dot Com taminal five points seven.

Speaker 1 (21:55):
Time to throw down with Battle of the Sexies and
help you make some plans for this week.

Speaker 2 (21:58):
Oh I'm so stuffe hoked. The Grand Rapids rise our
first ever professional women's volleyball team in season two with
the home opener at Van Andel's Sunday Night.

Speaker 1 (22:09):
Don't bury the lead. Come on, talk about it.

Speaker 2 (22:12):
I am. I'm the inn arena announcer, they asked me back,
which I wasn't sure about.

Speaker 1 (22:16):
She's awesome, guys, Oh my.

Speaker 2 (22:18):
Gosh, I have so much fun. It's just such an
electric environment. You really, Yes, it's so so much fun.
The kids are gonna love this. We've got four tickets
up for grabs now. With today's Battle of the Sexes. Question,
one hundred men surveyed name something men think they know
more about than women.

Speaker 1 (22:34):
Sus I said this question, you immediately jumped out. I'm
not going to say a word. We know nothing and
we're okay with it.

Speaker 2 (22:41):
I'll give you a few things. I pop my hood
on the car. I'll be the first to admit I'm
not the most There's.

Speaker 1 (22:47):
No blinker fluid. I believe your husband would chime in
with right about.

Speaker 2 (22:50):
That now, blinker fluid is not a real thing. Don't
walk into that trap. Six one, six, four, five, eight,
one oh five seven. One hundred men surveyed names something
men think they know more about than women. Caller seven,
You got that number one answer, and you are joining
me with the Grand Rapids Rise this Sunday on Star
one five point sunning.

Speaker 1 (23:11):
Good morning Star. Who's this all right? Tasha? Where are
you coming from today? Roddy gotta tell me. One hundred
dudes were asked name something men think they know more
about than women. Tasha, what do you think? Their top
answer was car? Cars? Yeah, you know, telling you about

(23:31):
the flux capacitor and you're just nodding along saying yeah, sure,
whatever you say. Cars is the number two answer. O Tasha,
I'm sorry, thank you, thank you, Hi Star, who's this Katie,
where are you calling from today? All Right? I just
got a great guest from Tasha Katie, who said, but

(23:51):
one hundred guys were asked name something men think they
know more about the women. She said cars, and that
was the number two most. I'm gonna answer a great
guest and I'm gonna give you a big hint. It's Friday.
I want you to win. Okay, Katie, Okay, So my
hint for you is that this the top answer still
involves cars. Oh, in a way, perhaps when you're both

(24:15):
riding in.

Speaker 7 (24:15):
One until it involves cars.

Speaker 1 (24:19):
Or at least riding in one.

Speaker 9 (24:21):
Oh.

Speaker 6 (24:21):
Directions, Oh like directions like either tell me the next
turn or just let the dang navigation system do it
for me, be my navigator.

Speaker 1 (24:33):
Oh my gosh. So many arguments about directions and the
fastest way to get there. It's the top answer. Way
to go, Katie. Yes, you're going to the Grand Rapids
Rise Sunday night. Congrats, Thank you, It's gonna be a blast.
It was directions, followed by cars and then women. Yeah guys, yeah,
we know more about women than women. Good call, uh,
and sports rounding out those top answers. Katie, well done, thank.

Speaker 4 (24:57):
You so much.

Speaker 6 (24:58):
Work.

Speaker 4 (24:58):
I have my six year old in the car, so
he's pretty excited.

Speaker 1 (25:01):
Oh he should he should be. It's a lot of
fun over there. What's your son's name, Wesley? Wesley, and
you are going to have a blast, Katie, enjoy it. Awesome,
Thank you, And yesterday I was made to feel good,
a little nostalgic, and then I was put in my
place very promptly by my wife and children, of course,

(25:23):
as one does. But I want to talk to you
about ring tones just because we all thought they were
the coolest thing for a little a brief period in
the early aughts, I feel like nineties to early two
thousands when you would buy ring tones for your phone. Yeah,
and I didn't buy that many ring tones, to be
honest with you. I always just used whatever was on,
you know, my Nokia with all that kind of stuff.

Speaker 2 (25:44):
I did because I didn't realize you paid for them.
And it took months from my parents to realize you did,
and it just showed up on the phone bill that
they were paying.

Speaker 1 (25:52):
That's pretty funny, Yeah, when you were playing ten cents
of text message all that fun stuff. But so my
kids they love finding anything old that we had and
we had one of those you know, like everybody a
box that has all your chords and all this old
crap in it. And I had one of my old
mortorole erasers. Wow, Like I only had this phone for
maybe a year. I want to say. I was a
sophomore in college somewhere around there, so two thousand and five,

(26:15):
two thousand and six, somewhere in there, and I had
a ring tone that at the time was ironic. It
was ironic, I want to preface this, but my kids
actually plugged in this old motorole eraser. Shout out to
them because it still worked and it's still power back.

Speaker 2 (26:29):
Dude, you could use it today.

Speaker 1 (26:30):
And so they were messing around trying to find any
games on it because I talked to them about Snake
and what that was like all this other stuff. And
they were messing around in the settings on it, and
they got to the ringtone, schmidty, and that is when
the sounds of my past came roaring back at me.
To do this. This was your ring This was ironically okay.

Speaker 9 (26:52):
Wnically, you must have been so cool, so cool for
white And so then it would just repeat over and
over again.

Speaker 1 (27:03):
And I thought that was hilarious because anytime it would
ring in a room full of people, because let's face it,
back then, nobody kept their phones on silent all the time.

Speaker 2 (27:11):
But also, like, was that from the phone?

Speaker 1 (27:14):
That was no, no, no, no, no, no.

Speaker 2 (27:15):
That wasn't great either, So then you were like, oh,
you know that's the offspring guys, right, a pretty nose.

Speaker 1 (27:22):
It was more high pitched annoying than that was, for sure,
but like it would just and I thought it was
hilarious because I'd be in like crowded rooms and that
phone would go off and it would make people laugh. Yeah,
it would make me crimp. And so I started laughing.
I go, that was my ring tone. And your mom goes,
I know, I hated that ring tone so much, so stupid.

(27:42):
She's like, it actually just makes me angry hearing it now,
and like triggering. My daughter goes so cringe, cringe. And meanwhile,
of course my son is going ye all night long
last night, And all I kept thinking is like, at
one point in time, I paid for this money, for this,
spent my bills.

Speaker 6 (28:01):
Uh, it hurts sometime I get a good fee.

Speaker 1 (28:10):
Oh he's here to drop a little positivity into your morning.
Feeling good on Star on five point Man.

Speaker 2 (28:15):
Well, it was a very emotional day yesterday and our
country's capital as former President Jimmy Carter was laid to
rest in his state funeral. But it was an especially
poignant moment when Stephen Ford, son course of former President
Gerald R. Ford, brought himself to the podium to deliver
a eulogy. See, we've talked about this before. Even though

(28:37):
former President Ford lost his reelection bid to Carter, the
two became very very close friends following their political careers,
and in fact, both promised each other to give a
eulogy to the other. Now, former President Carter delivered on
that promise when President Ford passed back in two thousand

(28:58):
and six, but Ford made sure that he had the
eulogy written in case he did not see the day
that his friend passed. And that's exactly what happened yesterday.
When Stephen discussed how a really bitter feeling of losing
an election turned out to be a memorable moment.

Speaker 3 (29:14):
Little could I know that the outcome of that nineteen
seventy sixth election would bring about one of my deepest
and most enduring friendships.

Speaker 2 (29:25):
Stephen continued by saying, that this is exactly what Dad
wrote on his yellow legal pad after so many years
of gratitude over the friendship of the two.

Speaker 10 (29:37):
As for myself, Jimmy, I'm looking forward to our reunion.
We had much to catch up on. Thank you, mister President.
Welcome home, old friend.

Speaker 2 (29:56):
Isn't that incredible? The entire eulogy is about fi fifteen
minutes long, and it's just filled with such wonderful moments.
You could see most of the Carter family was also
very moved. I posted it at West Michigan Star dot
com and it is really worth giving a listen. Former
President Ford had such a way with words. It's incredible.

Speaker 1 (30:13):
It really is incredible, and it was such a touching
part of that service yesterday. And I hope because all
five of the living presidents who are aligned with us
today were all in attendance, I hope they took note
of it. I know there's some camaraderie around a few
of them, and I just hope that they think about
that and plan ahead. It was just cool to see,
all right, Trenny. This is just fascinating and it reminded

(30:34):
me of like old mystery books and solving things using
sort of outdated and something outdated but still very much
important Morris code. Morris code just actually led Washington deputies
to save a trap man. You see, deputies with the
Pierce County, Washington Sheriff's Department recently responded to a welfare
check after an elderly man had been out of contact

(30:55):
for several days. Well upon arrival, they tried knocking on
the door, and what they heard they were able to
determine was in fact Morris code. Check this out. This
is off their bodycam footage Sheriff's Department.

Speaker 6 (31:14):
Morse code.

Speaker 9 (31:18):
I do that.

Speaker 1 (31:19):
I think it's soss.

Speaker 9 (31:21):
Okay, yeah, he needs help.

Speaker 1 (31:23):
We're trying to come in there right now.

Speaker 6 (31:25):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (31:25):
They busted down the door and found this man Schmiddi,
who had been trapped because of a medical emergency for
four days straight. But they were able to break down
the door find him in time, and he is expected
to make a full recovery. But turned on those old
timey skills of Morris code from like the telegraph days

(31:46):
and was able to let deputies know, hey, I need help,
somebody's in here. Please.

Speaker 2 (31:50):
I don't know if I ever learned it for like legit,
but I do know so, Yeah, but is it too short?

Speaker 1 (31:56):
One long? Is it something like that?

Speaker 2 (31:57):
Very short?

Speaker 1 (31:57):
One long, three short one line? See now I need
to Now, I gotta go figure this. Save your life
big time, all right. Feeling good comes at you a couple
of times today. I always want to highlight something great going
on out there. It's all around you when you look forward.
Thanks for our friends hit Overhead Door Company of Grand
Rapids reminding you to open your day positively feeling good
