Welcome into your Thursday, known as weekend eve around here.
But you know, as we're gearing up for things going on.
Last night big event, the Cars for Kids gala for
the Mary Free Bed kids.
Speaker 3 (00:26):
It was absolutely phenomenal and.
Speaker 2 (00:29):
The host of course last night, SCHMITTI good, good turnout,
everybody packed in there. I walked through yesterday. The auto
show looks sweet unbelievable.
Speaker 3 (00:37):
I think maybe the biggest turnout I've seen in my
years of doing it. There were so many incredible people,
so many doctors. I met families that were out. It
was a really really special night. And if you haven't
had the chance to look at what the future looks
like for Mary FREEBD kids, it's just astonishing. It's one
of those places that we are so lucky to have
(01:00):
here and to get to meet some of the people
behind it was just really cool. It was a very
very gratitude filled night. It was very cool.
Speaker 2 (01:09):
Yeah, that's what I want to hear. Now, how you
doing today? How you feel it.
Speaker 3 (01:12):
Yeah, I don't know if my sentences are going to
make sense. I don't know. I got home very very
very late.
Speaker 4 (01:18):
List movies, music, and all the gossip in one place.
Speaker 2 (01:22):
It's the celebrities gup on Star one oh five point seven.
Speaker 3 (01:26):
Well country star Chris Stapleton and his wife stepping up
big time, donating a million dollars to different organizations helping
out with those wildfire relief efforts in LA. The couple's foundation,
Outlaw State of Kind announced on insta donating a million
dollars to organizations including the American Red Cross, Direct Relief,
(01:51):
the Wildlife Relief Fund, and Project Hope, saying that most
of these organizations have to do with things like animal welfare, arts,
food and family to make sure that everyone is taken
care of. Tonight, of course, the big Night for Fire
Aid and the benefit concert. We're going to see live
performances at both the Intuit Dome and the Kia Forum,
(02:14):
including Billie Eilish, Earthwind and Fire, Katie Perry, Lady Gaga,
Stevie Nix, and tons more, which you can stream live
on our free iHeartRadio app or listen on our sister
station one oh four point five SNX and that we'll
kick off at ten o'clock tonight.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
Really incredible donation by Stapleton there, But I'm thinking about
the fire Aid concert Spinney. I don't know if I've
ever seen as organized or as huge of a multi
site concert as.
Speaker 3 (02:40):
This, as quickly as it happened. Yeah, Chris Stapleton, excuse me.
Sam Hunts, the country music star and a lot of
legal trouble locked up in Henderson County, Tennessee last week.
We're just learning about this, and cops are claiming he's
driving a little too fast. According to police records, the
(03:00):
singer songwriter arrested on charges of speeding and violating an
interlock device back on January twentieth. Now, he was released
the same day on a fifteen hundred dollars fund. If
you're curious about that interlock device, he was arrested for
a dui back in twenty nineteen, which is why probably
his vehicles outfitted with one of those car breathalyzers that
(03:21):
prevents you from drunk driving. Now, his rep is saying,
yesterday not the big of a deal. Sam's lawyer cleared
the paperwork in court this week. There's going to be
no official charges speeding ticket issued and it will be
paid promptly. And finally, Travis Kelsey says that Taylor Swift
is a massive fan of the New Heights podcast. Just
(03:44):
asked Travis and Jason's intern who had such a starstruck
moment when he officially got to meet Taylor for the
first time and got some very nice compliments about the show.
This was yesterday on the New epp was.
Speaker 1 (04:00):
Very complimentary of the show, nice and of like she
listens every week.
Speaker 4 (04:07):
She gave us some creative compliments and she like it
hit that like it me be very clear, you can't
tell me thrush my fat.
Speaker 1 (04:14):
I'm gonna be very honestly, you can't. You can't. I
am gonna be obnoxious.
Speaker 5 (04:19):
I'm like, do you know what you're talking to?
Speaker 3 (04:22):
Yeah, Sang, I know that my performance review is coming up,
and there's nothing you can say because Taylor Swift gave
me her official stamp of approval.
Speaker 1 (04:30):
That's all you need right there.
Speaker 3 (04:32):
All of your celebscu but West Michigan start off on.
Speaker 2 (04:36):
Sometime.
Speaker 3 (04:38):
Does that get a good feeling?
Speaker 2 (04:40):
Yeah, Well, let's burn up these Thursday morning. I'm feeling
good on startin O five points seven. It's Mack and Schmitty,
And you know, often we're reminded just of the impact
that animals can have on her health, be it mental
or physical. And this she's one such story. On a
right here in Michigan is a Detroit firefighter, Matt Denuge.
You found himself at this breaking point. Years of stress
(05:02):
from work, financial difficulties, personal challenges. Things stack up. We
all know that. But Matt was at his breaking point
one night alone in his basement. He was on the
verge of actually ending his life, and he considered it.
His golden doodle Mia Russian to his side, licking his face,
interrupting that moment with the unconditional love that you know
(05:24):
we can experience only from our pet friends. Well, Matt
credits me, I was snapping him out of that despair
and ultimately saving his life. The next morning, he took
the steps necessary to head toward recovery, reached out to
his brother and some family members, contacted behavioral health treatment
and recovery, and soon after he began getting the health
that he needed to get back onto the right track.
And now he's been sharing that story left and right
(05:46):
about how he was motivated after the tragic suicide of
a coworker. He needed to share this experience with as
many people as he could to just show how he
has that new lease on life after his moment of
savior from his dog Mia. So just a reminder about
how those animals, those pets, they can be a lifesaver
in so many ways. And so happy that Matt is
(06:07):
still with us and sharing that story and helping others stay.
Speaker 1 (06:10):
With us too.
Speaker 3 (06:11):
Oh, the West Michigan Therapy Dogs were at the Auto
Show charity spectacular last night. Well they're so gay, all right.
For years, Alan Brooks had promised his mom, Sarah Pearl Brooks,
he'd finished college. Well it finally happened. The sixty year
old made his late mother's wish come true when he
graduated from Alabama A and M University with a bachelor's
(06:33):
degree in Liberal studies and a concentration in business management.
He had joined Good Morning America saying it was tough,
classes were tough, I was still working eight hours a
day and then going to school, that it was all
worth it. And I'm not sure Alan realized just how
inspiring he would be because his daughter, Brianna Washington shared
(06:53):
a very emotional TikTok capturing the special moment, and of
course it has gone viral over fifty million. He inviews,
tens of thousands of shares and messages of congratulations. She
tells GMA, it was such a message of hope. You
never have a timeline.
Speaker 6 (07:11):
I have people messaging me saying how they are currently
in school and they're struggling, and this gave them motivation
to just push through and see through. I've had messages
where older parents that were really just stuck in the
unknowing of if they wanted.
Speaker 3 (07:28):
To go back.
Speaker 6 (07:29):
Even for myself, I started and I haven't had the
chance to finish. But then when you have, you know
someone like my dad who you know, really faced all
eyes and went through head on and finished that. It's
like he gave you another vision to see that anything
(07:50):
truly is possible and there is no.
Speaker 3 (07:52):
Time on it. It's so cool. The family all made
signs of pictures of his mom that just said you
did it, son, and held him up when he walked
across age. It's incredible. West Michigan Star dot Com.
Speaker 1 (08:02):
Doing it for Mom's always a good reason to do something.
I like that.
Speaker 2 (08:05):
I'm feeling good coming at you a couple times a day.
We'll pick you up with some more positivity coming your way.
At Nine's funny this morning here on Starck.
Speaker 4 (08:12):
Movies, music, and all the gossip in one place.
Speaker 2 (08:15):
It's the Celebrity Scoop on Star one oh five point seven.
Speaker 3 (08:20):
We'll start with breaking scoop. Tragedy in our nation's capital
as a deadly airport collision has left multiple people dead.
A regional jet carrying sixty passengers and four crew members
the board an American Airlines flight collided with an army
helicopter in mid air near Reagan Washington National Airport last night.
(08:42):
This happened just after nine pm. The two aircraft crashed
into the Potomac River. Video is showing the moment of
impact so intense it actually broke the plane into pieces.
A massive rescue operation is underway this morning, with at
least third bodies recovered so far. This is American Eagle Flight.
(09:04):
American Airline flight excuse me fifty three forty two was
arriving from Wichita, Kansas, according to American Airlines. This is
Richard Fowler, who was actually waiting to board a plane
at the airport, witnessing the moment of impact.
Speaker 7 (09:17):
I saw all of the cop cars gathering, all of
the sirens, and then literally on the sort of I
guess that'd be the side of the expressway going towards
the airport. You saw loads of ambulances, loads of emergency
vehicles headed towards the scene. And at that point in time,
I then pulled over the side to figure out what
was happening. Then I realized there was a crash.
Speaker 3 (09:37):
The US Army Blackhawk involved was carrying three people, according
to Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser, really sad news. American figure skaters, coaches,
and family members who had just wrapped up a camp
in Wichita were among passengers on that jet. Russian state
media has also confirmed that Russian figure skaters and their
(09:58):
coaches were also on board. Reagan is currently not allowing
planes to land or take off. This was a training
flight for the Blackhawks, so investigators are saying they're now
focusing on why the helicopter was flying at that location
and that altitude at that exact moment. This is really tragic, Yes,
it really is.
Speaker 2 (10:18):
As Smitty said, We'll continue to get you updates as
more and more information comes out. Next scoop coming up
at eight O five All Right.
Speaker 3 (10:23):
Meryl Streep's nephew Abe is revealing in a New York
magazine report that the Oscar winning actor had to cut
herself out of her fence in order to evacuate the
La wildfires, one of the numerous celebrities forced to flee
her home. He writes, My aunt Meryll received in order
to evacuate, but when she tried to leave, she discovered
(10:46):
a large tree had fallen over in her driveway, blocking
her only exit. Determined to make it out, she borrowed
wirecutters from a neighbor and then cut a car size
hole in her fence and then drove through it in
order to escape with her life. Isn't that insane?
Speaker 1 (11:04):
Obviously?
Speaker 2 (11:05):
It sounds like a movie that I kind of want
to watch. Meryl Streep hasn't done a lot of action
movies at this point. I would love to see her
do it.
Speaker 3 (11:12):
So, speaking of those La wildfires, the fire Aid benefit
concert is tonight two different spots since there are so
many acts. This will go down at the Intuit Dome
and the Kia Forum with big names like Rod Stewart,
Stevie Wonder, Sting, Stevie Nicks, The Red Hot Chili Peppers
performing all of those proceeds going to help those relief efforts.
(11:33):
You can hear it live on our iHeartRadio app and
our sister station one oh four point five S and X. Finally,
Queer Eye star Tan France is revealing what got him
to make a big move from his home in the
UK here to the US, and he says, it was
a lot of racism.
Speaker 5 (11:53):
I chose to move from the UK because I didn't
want to feel like a psycho classicism anymore. That truly
is it. And it wasn't because I was trying to
be an entertainer. I didn't I know about to be
an entertainer. This just came out of nowhere and so
I moved over here just for a happier life. There's
a term in England that we use for Pakistanis, so
(12:15):
we don't use for Pakistanis or other people use Pakistani's which
power and I was just sick of hearing that all
the time.
Speaker 3 (12:22):
Yeah, the TV star now calls Salt Lake City home.
He was talking at the Sundance Film Festivals Sunrise Collective,
getting a lot of praise from fans on how candid
he was about the rough part of that life, all
of your CELEBSCU but West Michigan start.
Speaker 2 (12:37):
Dot com five points you haven't feel good variety of
the eighties till now.
Speaker 1 (12:41):
Good morning to you.
Speaker 2 (12:42):
It's Mac and Schiminde And honestly, you know you see
those like trigger warnings. Now that's something you're about to
watch or listen to might trigger you.
Speaker 1 (12:49):
This is where I feel like we should work.
Speaker 3 (12:50):
I mean, is it a good morning? Because I'm stressed
out you guys. This summer camp sign up stress has begun.
Have you said any of your kids up for summer
camps yet?
Speaker 1 (13:01):
Of course not.
Speaker 3 (13:02):
Today is my first day and I have I kid
you not you guys. And I'm not going to tell
you what camp it is because I don't want you
to do it.
Speaker 2 (13:09):
I'm not.
Speaker 3 (13:09):
I'm sorry. It's a really great one. It's in Grand
Rapids and that's all I'm gonna say, because I cannot
have you getting in on that web traffic at ten
am today.
Speaker 2 (13:19):
I you brought up web traffic. That's something that's I
think is just mind boggling that the internet can't even
handle the amount of parents.
Speaker 3 (13:26):
Well, that's the stress part of it, though it's nothing else.
It's the fact that you have so few spots for
these things and you have to be on there in seconds.
So this is the first one today, and thankfully, I'll
be honest with you, guys, I missed the original date
for this. This was supposed to have happened on Tuesday,
and it crashed the site. So they sent out this
(13:47):
email that's like, really sorry, guys. We are starting this
all fresh, and they are now staggering sign ups. So
certain camps were yesterday, certain camps are today, The rest
of the camps are tomorrow at different times. That's so crazy.
I have five alarms set for myself this morning to
sit in a studio and get on my laptop, a desktop,
(14:10):
and my phone. Chris, my husband, will be standing by
at home on his laptop and his phone, and I
have my mother also at her house ready to do this.
And people warned me about this, but I'm just now
getting to like camp age with my kids. It is.
I don't know what to actually compare it to.
Speaker 2 (14:33):
I know what to compare it to. It compares to
being in your teens or twenties and all of your
friends want to go see a huge artist, a big
concert for the first time, but you know it's going.
Speaker 1 (14:43):
To sell out.
Speaker 3 (14:44):
But I've never had that experience.
Speaker 2 (14:45):
You've never had where you were waiting online for an
artist tickets to go on sale and then you just
had a click clicklick.
Speaker 3 (14:51):
I feel like that was not a thing for us
back in high school, like not like it is now.
This is so much different, and you have to be
ready because as soon as you and then it's referen refreshed, refresh,
and as soon as you see that, it's like go time.
And I've got Chris. I'm in a three way call
this morning with Chris and my mom and it's like, go,
go go. Here is the name of the camp, Here
(15:11):
is the age range, Here is the day that we need.
Here are the hours we can take him. It's insane,
and there's I don't know if there's good advice for
how to do this, because I'm talking to friends of
mine sports camps. My girlfriend is trying to get her
son into a lacrosse camp, and she has six people
that she has lined up to get ready to get
(15:31):
on this site in order to even land a spot
for it. Forget oh siblings, Sorry, Sophia, You're gonna have
to get whatever is left because we all have to
be focused on getting will into something. It's so wild
and I don't know if anyone has figured out a
better way to do it. And it's not on you know,
the camps or anything. I think just they're good camps
(15:52):
and there's a ton of people that want to.
Speaker 1 (15:53):
Do these things exactly.
Speaker 3 (15:54):
I mean, man, does it make you feel like a
bad parent if you miss out?
Speaker 2 (15:58):
And what's amazing to you too, is you get on
the line and you try and click through it and
they say, all right, nine o'clock on the dot is
when you can sign up, and you managed to get in,
you get your kids signed up, and they tell you
it's nine oh one and you're eighty.
Speaker 1 (16:11):
Number eighty four, you know what I mean.
Speaker 2 (16:12):
Where it's like they have powered through that many people
so fast that even though you did it the instant.
Speaker 1 (16:18):
That it happened, you're like one hundred people deep in
the lunch.
Speaker 3 (16:21):
It's Taylor Swift tickets, honestly, that's what I'd probably compare
it to. It would be Taylor Swift aristour tickets on
the same exact level as trying to get kids into
any kind of summer camp. And like, I guess this
is my PSA to all of you, this is already begun.
Man like you, I guarantee you are looking for something
for your kids, It's already gone.
Speaker 2 (16:39):
I'm hoping my wife isn't listening right now. It's already gone,
because I will get a frantic call in here this
morning about this.
Speaker 3 (16:44):
Like take a look, because Chris goes, oh my gosh,
they're already doing t ball volume and I said, is gone,
is gone. I'm telling you, Mack, there is something your
kids want to do and they won't be doing it
because the sign up was three weeks ago.
Speaker 1 (16:58):
Well that's a secret I'll take.
Speaker 3 (17:00):
I'm just so anybody with good advice on the summer
Camp sign up stress six one six four five eight
one oh five seven, or if you just want to
call invent, I will happily oblige you and say you're
doing everything right. It's the Internet's bolt.
Speaker 4 (17:18):
Movies, music, and all the gossip in one place.
Speaker 2 (17:21):
It's the celebrities goop on Star one oh five point seven.
Speaker 3 (17:25):
Well, we have gotten some new updates out of Washington,
DC following that jet helicopter collision that happened last night.
A regional jet from American Airlines carrying sixty passengers and
four crew members collided with an Army helicopter in mid
air near Reagan Washington National Airport. This happened just after
(17:46):
nine pm. The intensity so bad it actually broke the
plane into pieces, both the plane and helicopter crashing into
the icy waters of the Potomac River. Officials are holding
a press conference as we speak, and unfortunately a very
sad update. Crews are shifting from a recovery from a
rescue to a recovery mission. They have pulled twenty eight
(18:10):
bodies from the plane, one from the helicopter that US
Army Blackhawk was carrying three people. American Eagle Flight fifty
three forty two was arriving from Wichita, Kansas into DC.
We do have word that American figure skaters, coaches, and
family members who had just been at a camp in
Wichita were on board. Russian state media also confirming that
(18:32):
Russian figure skaters and coaches on board as well. Really
awful moment. A husband of one of the passengers, speaking
with the CBS affiliate in Washington.
Speaker 8 (18:40):
I'm just praying that somebody's pulling her out of the
river right now as we speak. That's all I can pray.
Speaker 1 (18:45):
For I'm spraying to God.
Speaker 3 (18:46):
When was the last time we spoke with her?
Speaker 8 (18:48):
She texted me we were landing, that they're landing in
twenty minutes, landing in twenty minutes. The rest of my
text did not get delivered. That's when I realized thing
might be up.
Speaker 3 (19:01):
Officials have set up a designated helpline for families trying
to find loved ones.
Speaker 2 (19:06):
You know, you just send your love and your prayers
and your thoughts to everybody involved there.
Speaker 1 (19:10):
It's just tragic.
Speaker 3 (19:11):
Taylor Swift is planning to watch Travis Kelsey's charge for
history as the Kansas City Chiefs become the first ever
team to land three Super Bowls row. And she's gonna
be doing it with a bunch of a list stars.
I think this is very interesting. Sources say that includes
Blake Lively and her husband Ryan Reynolds. I just had
(19:32):
a story a few days ago about their friendship seeming
a little rocky, with one source saying that Blake was
not invited to any of the playoff games with Taylor. Apparently,
invitations are going out to quite a few high rolling pals.
You will possibly see Ice Spice Sabrina carpenter, Selena Gomez
and Benny Blanco who will be joining her in New Orleans.
(19:54):
But obviously the big one is Blake and Ryan.
Speaker 2 (19:56):
I'm just looking forward to the prop bets on how
many times the camera we'll pan to Taylor Switch will
actually get paid out.
Speaker 3 (20:02):
I feel like there's just something to talk about. I've
never heard somebody win a prop bet all right. Finally,
tonight is the big night for the Fire Aid benefit concert.
This star studded show raising money for wildfire relief efforts
in LA but unfortunately a major cancelation. The Dave Matthews
Band has had to exit from the show unfortunately. Sharing
(20:24):
an update on their Instagram, Dave himself said, due to
a critical illness in the family, Dave Matthews is unfortunately
unable to perform at both Fire Aid and the Music
Cares benefits this week. You know, sad news for them.
Hope everything is okay. But Dave was said to hit
the stage alongside John Mayer tonight. This is happening in
two separate locations. By the way, remember this is the
(20:46):
Kia Forum and the Intuit Dome. Huge names Lady Gaga,
Stevie Nicks, Gwen Stefani, Green Day, Billie Eilish, and if
you'd love to hear it, we are going to be
streaming it live on our iHeartRadio app. You can also
listen on our sister station one o four point five SNX.
Everything kicks off at ten o'clock tonight.
Speaker 2 (21:04):
I'm bummed about that at Dave Matthews and John Mayer
to Caather that, Yeah, that would be really cool.
Speaker 3 (21:08):
I think's okay. All of your celeb scoop at West
Michigan Start dot com.
Speaker 1 (21:12):
Thanks five points. Chevy Any's time.
Speaker 2 (21:14):
Battle of this Sex is and it kicks off today
talking about the big Michigan International Auto Show at de
Vos Place.
Speaker 3 (21:20):
We got a four pack of tickets so the whole
family can check out some of those sweet new rides.
Today's battle question one hundred men surveyed. Tell me a
food that's offen fried. All the good ones, schmitty, all
the good ones, all right, six, one six, four, five, eight,
one oh five seven callers seven. We've got one hundred
men surveyed. Tell us a food that's offen fried, And
(21:42):
you're headed to the Michigan International Auto Show with Star
one oh five point seven.
Speaker 2 (21:50):
Sonya, where are you coming from today. All right, gotta
tell me, uh tell me what. One hundred men were
asked to tell me a food that's often fried. What
was their top answer, princh fry French fries. You know,
I thought people were gonna go with fried chicken right
off the bat and then get more into the exotic things,
(22:10):
you know, fish and crab and all that stuff. But
you know, French fries are the one we're eating most often.
Speaker 1 (22:16):
That's the top answer.
Speaker 3 (22:17):
When it go guys, good deal.
Speaker 2 (22:20):
You're going to the big Michigan International Auto Show kicking
off today.
Speaker 1 (22:24):
The Boss Place, running through Sunday.
Speaker 2 (22:26):
Congrats, all right, so much, you.
Speaker 1 (22:29):
Are very welcome. We'll do it again tomorrow on the
chance to win every.
Speaker 2 (22:32):
Weekday eight fifteen Battle of the Sexes. Here on starte
five point seven. Good morning to you. It's Mack and Schmidty.
And you know, I feel like this is a conversation
you've had a lot of times in life as we've
brought technology more and more into our everyday life, to
the point where now I just feel like we're all
addicted to our phones, into technology and have the attention
(22:54):
span of goldfish. But not Christopher Walking. Oh no, Christopher Walking,
the famed actor he was just went viral again the
other day because this has been true for obviously a
long time. The man has never owned a cell phones
many he just never sent an email, okay. And so
I was talking about this to my wife and she goes, oh, man,
(23:16):
wouldn't that be the best?
Speaker 3 (23:18):
I like it, he said. I've seen Severn's on DVDs
like he's a.
Speaker 1 (23:21):
School That's what they said.
Speaker 2 (23:22):
He'll watch talk about his own stuff on DBDs and
just doesn't have any of those things in his life.
I'm sure he's got a great assistant though. That being said, though,
my wife and I were talking about this yesterday in
front of our kids, and she goes, oh, doesn't that
sound like the best to just go back in time
where you weren't connected in all times and just to
(23:42):
not have those phones, not thinking about emails and all
that stuff. And I'm like, well, yeah, it sounds really nice,
But in reality, I don't think any of us who
have lived for the last twenty years can go back.
Speaker 3 (23:54):
I think if if it was before kids, I could you.
Speaker 1 (23:57):
Think if it was before kids.
Speaker 3 (23:59):
I need to be connected to what's going on, what's
happening or otherwise the anxious thoughts in my head are
just gonna go wild. But I I would love to
have no email.
Speaker 1 (24:10):
See.
Speaker 2 (24:10):
I was even putting this into the frame because obviously
everybody would say the same thing. Oh, I can't do it.
I gotta do it for my job. I gotta be connected.
I gotta have my phone. I have to know what's happening.
And that's true. But if it didn't impact your income,
I see, I still think that none of us could
really do it. I think it's only a romanticized thing
at this point in time, because I don't feel like
people realize exactly how much time they spend on their
(24:32):
phones every day.
Speaker 3 (24:33):
I don't know. When I go to the up, I
go five days without a cell phone, without email, without
social media. They still use landlines up there. Every one
of them has like a lime green corded phone in
their kitchen hanging on the wall. And I love it.
Speaker 2 (24:49):
See we brought when we brought this up. As my
kids are listening, they're going like, they're going like, are
you insane? Why would you want to go back in time?
They're like, no Netflix, And my wife's like, you know,
we TV still Christopher walkin says, even has a satellite
dis right, and he goes no Netflix, she goes no Wordle,
and Michelle immediately goes, that's what it was.
Speaker 3 (25:10):
There's the line. There's always a line.
Speaker 2 (25:12):
She started thinking about all the time wasting things that
you do on there, and then my kids were like,
and plus, why would you want to go all the
way back then when there was no electricity? And that's
when the conversation just hurt right to the course.
Speaker 3 (25:23):
Weverborn in the nineteen hundreds.
Speaker 8 (25:30):
Some down get.
Speaker 2 (25:32):
A good feeling, Well, we all get plenty of negativity
that surrounds us. So we'd like to combat that with
positivity coming your way every single morning. It's feeling good
on Star. What's going on you, Minnie?
Speaker 3 (25:41):
Well, I got a chance to do a special media
preview yesterday of the Michigan International Auto Show, and they
have added a couple of things this year that I
find to be just so powerful and I cannot wait.
You have to head out this week and weekend to
meet Riley Davis. So she is a seventeen year old
racing sensation. She's from Central Michigan. She has got some
(26:05):
serious brit you guys. She took to the track. At
only eight years old, she has been competing in the
prestigious NASCAR Youth Series, where she's claimed seven USAC Championships
countless victories. She has been named one of the sports
brightest Young Stars. But here's what I love. It is
way beyond racing for Riley. So her dad, Chad is
(26:28):
the one who really got her into the sport. He's
a former stock car racer and she is racing with
a purpose. So her dad, Chad actually received a life
saving stem cell transplant during his battle with leukemia. And
it's all thanks to NMDP. You probably know it better.
Is be the match. Riley has become a powerful advocate
(26:50):
for this mission, and she is now dedicating her career
and her purpose to raising awareness about bone marrow donation,
inspiring others to get up on the registry, and giving
hope to families, just like the hope her family got.
So if you are headed out to the Michigan International
Auto Show kicks off this morning at eleven o'clock at
DeVos Place, you can see her be a car by
(27:13):
the way right in that very central concourse. Briley is
going to be there with her dance throughout the weekend.
I got to meet both of them yesterday, and they're
all doing this for face Funding, which is a really
cool new initiative that is kind of like a GoFundMe,
but it gives a face to it. It's a much
more emotional side of donating. And these two are just
(27:34):
absolutely phenomenal and I'm super excited for Western Michigan to
get to meet them.
Speaker 2 (27:38):
Clearly a young woman going places and getting more quickly.
It's like two is it matter?
Speaker 3 (27:42):
So cool?
Speaker 1 (27:43):
Awesome?
Speaker 2 (27:43):
All right, Spinny, this is a quick update on a
story I shared with you last week. As you remember
the Ravens tight end Mark Andrews dropping a pass in
the end zone for a two point conversion that potentially
would have tied the game sent into overtime against the
Buffalo Bills.
Speaker 1 (27:58):
Of course, the Bills prevail.
Speaker 2 (28:00):
Now flash forward to this past Sunday night when it
was the Bills turn to be on the receiving end,
when their own tight end, Dalton Kincaid, dropped a pass
that would have put them into field goal range with
the chance of tying the game with the Kansas City
Chiefs whole.
Speaker 1 (28:16):
Season for Buffalo on the line. Here there that come
he just desperately throws it up in the air and
complete Kincaid was right there and here's Kincaid's dropping.
Speaker 7 (28:27):
Oh, I mean, that should have been caught right right
in his hands.
Speaker 1 (28:31):
You know.
Speaker 2 (28:32):
It's just a heartbreaking thing for a player to have happened.
And Mark Andrews that the Ravens tight end experienced all
sorts of negativity from it until the Bills mafia turned
around and turned it into something positive, raising over one
hundred and forty seven thousand dollars for Mark's charity that
supports people, especially kids with Type one diabetes.
Speaker 1 (28:51):
Well after the Bills went out that way.
Speaker 2 (28:54):
Ravens fans remembered that generosity in a group called the
Ravens Flock put one together to help out Kinkaid's own
charity as well, which is all about helping kids with autism,
the Summit Center for Autism. So this Ravens Flock set
up their own GoFundMe that instantly crushed their twenty thousand
dollars goal is already up over that now, shooting for
(29:17):
forty thousand, and this thing just began. So hopefully, just
like Mark Andrew's gofund me, this thing kicks up into
six figures, all to help people coming out of a game,
because at the end of the day, that's what this is.
Speaker 1 (29:29):
This is sports.
Speaker 2 (29:30):
But those things that they're doing help real people battling
real problems. And I think that's awesome, pretty sweet, feeling
good coming at you a couple times a day. Let's
do it again tomorrow, six forty five and nine twenty
on Stuff Mack and Schmidty in the morning weekday, starting
at six am on Star one oh five point seven
