is we'll do because of it.There's all sorts of stories over the place,
and people be doing dumb stuff withfireworks, like you know, if
you got a ton of them sittingin your garage, maybe open flames aren't
for you, just throwing it outthere. All I know is you've barready.

(00:51):
We got a trip to the vetplan today for the anti anxiety meds
because my dogs were already having ahard time those word did are people allowed
to take those? Is it likelike some dog treats. They're good for
people and free dog. I'd gowith real anti anxiety meds if you're a
person. But that's just me.Movies, music and all the gossip in
one place it's the celebrities gooop onStar one oh five point seven man hawkdua

(01:15):
girl has really happen her moment continuingthe celeb circuit, being joined by Shaquille
O'Neill over the weekend. Video justdropping of the internet's newest sensation partying with
Shaq in Nashville, actually at Johnbon Jovi's new jb J Nashville Bar.

(01:38):
Haley Welsh is her actual name.If you didn't know, Shaq moonlights as
a DJ and invited her on stagefor a set. Meanwhile, Haley is
now breaking her silence on all ofthe rumors that have been flying about her
since that viral news story, andshe joined Plan Bree podcast yesterday. A

(02:00):
lot of what we've been hearing, like she got off social media because of
this, she got fired from herjob as a school teacher because of this.
Not true. Okay, So Ideleted on my social media like six
months ago due to like personal reasons. I never really got on it or
anything like that. Oh okay,So it didn't have anything to do with
this. Oh no, I waslong gone before that. What were you

(02:21):
doing for your job? I workedin a spring factory. I'm not a
school teacher. That was my nextquestion, because you were a teacher and
got fired from your job. No, I'm not even old enough to be
a teacher. I was gonna say, because you're twenty one. I'm like,
this is illegal. Who is ateacher? And also I've heard rumors
that your dad is a preacher. My father is so far from a preacher.
Is crazy. So everything has justbeen made up. Oh yeah,

(02:43):
yeah, But the side of hermaking a ton of money is not.
She has now got an entire productionteam, a manager. She's already made
thousands of dollars on a merch dealthat she has put together. Girlfriend is
using this to her advantage and Ilove to see it. You know what
is we head into the fourth ofI can't think of much more American than
creating a vibral being sensation in gaininginternational fame and wealth from the whole thing.

(03:06):
Yeah boy, The Simpson family andGoldman family, excuse me, are
slamming the inclusion of OJ Simpson inthe in memoriam tribute at Sunday's BT Awards.
If you saw this, you couldeven hear some visible shock from the
crowd on this. He was shownas a former NFL player. According to

(03:29):
BT, they were honoring black excellencelost in the last year. Nichole's father,
Fred said this was not something hecould wrap his head around. Absolutely
no positive spin on his inclusion inthe segment. A lot of Nichole's family
also stepping in, sister Tanya sayingthis should never have happened. BET should

(03:52):
have exercised more thought and sensitivity beforemaking such a decision. It's completely inappropriate
to give an abuser and murderer recognition, Chanya going as far as to saying,
we're probably not going to get anapology, but whoever came up with
this should be fired. Yeah,it's pretty ridiculous, but it's weird to
think about the whole OJA thing inthe sense of, Okay, he was

(04:14):
acquitted originally, right, so you'relike, well, maybe you just don't
include that at it. He wasalso found guilty in a civil suit that
basically said he was responsible for theirdepths, so it's not like controversial to
satally he was off the hook. Finally, Kylie Jenner and Timothy Shallomey are
still going strong. Fans were veryconcerned after the two have not been spotted
together in months. Well. Thetwo the first linked up last year enjoyed

(04:39):
a movie night out in Hollywood. They were seen at the Chinese Theater,
attempting to keep a low profile. They had on big hats masks, but
the paparazzi caught them and they'd beseen with lots of PDA holding hands if
anyone was concerned. The two arestill together. I'm gonna I'm so happy,
I'll be able to sleep tonight.Oh of your CELEBSCU. But West

(05:00):
Michigan Star dot com sometimes does thatget a good feeling? Well, let's
dive into some things to put smileson faces. Sean we feeling good on
starting O five points seven Mackaschmidty withyou and this is just cool. If
you fell in love last season, the inaugural season with our Grand Rapids rise,
well, get ready for year two. We just signed a new outside

(05:23):
hitter, Schmidty and Michigan volleyball fansshould know her well, because Carly Snyder
is going to be coming home forthe twenty twenty five season. She has
played the last six years professionally inFrance, but she's from Michigan and over
on the East Side. And whenI say Michigan volleyball fans should know her.
That's because she played at Macombe DakotaHigh School. Schmidty won a state

(05:46):
championship with Dakota back in twenty twelve. She was a four time All Michigan
first team selection, two time MichiganGator Head Player of the Year, and
oh yeah, the twenty twenty thirteenMiss Michigan Volleyball. Yeah, the twenty
thirteen unbelievable resume to come back herefor the rise. And you know,
if you were unaware somehow that Ihave the voice of the Grand Rapids,

(06:10):
your eyes sitting across from me everyday, she Bettie, I'm gonna give
you a chance. This is likeyou know, off season workouts. I
feel like for people like you know, I keep them going, you keep
them going. Absolutely my vocal exercises. I'm ready to do this. Do
you stretch first? Just out justthe curiosity, honey, I don't need
to stretch. Bring around, allright, welcome, you're outside, Hit

(06:30):
out, Carlynnda hit the post.Oh wow, that's impressed, ladies.
And't just really really good, buttruly, I'll give you the heads up
when these tickets go on sale, because everyone was telling me I can't believe
I missed or I didn't make itto a Rise game last season and everybody
was talking about it. They're incrediblewomen. It's phenomenal play. Do not
miss out, make it to agame. I'm sure the season is going

(06:54):
to be kicking off similarly to seasonone, probably around January. It's going
to be so much fun. Readyfor it? Welcome Carly? All right,
this is amazing. You know,a track runner's legs are probably the
most important part of their sport,But what happens when you don't have any.
For Gernsia Kroll, a Forest Hill'snorthern athlete, hasn't stopped her at

(07:15):
all. See. Gerensia had tohave both of her legs amputated when she
was only four years old. Herjourney started all the way back in Haiti.
See. She was born with significantjoint issues that limited her mobility,
and when her biological father died inthe Haiti earthquake back in twenty ten,
her biological mother knew she probably couldn'tcare for Gerrensia on her own and put

(07:38):
her up for adoption. That's whenJen and Ja Kroll ended up being in
Haiti for submissionary work. And foundtheir way to the orphanage that Jorency was
at. The Krolls realized they couldn'tleave and walk away knowing that they had
met this beautiful child. So theKrolls brought fourteen months Derency to Michigan on
a medical visa and realized that herdis abilities were far greater than they had

(08:01):
realized. It was a more thanfour year medical journey as well as illegal
journey to finalize the adoption. Drensiahas been an amazing part of their family
and nothing has slowed this girl downbecause now she's running track and field.
It's incredible. Listen to Drensia andher mom Jen talk about that moment that

(08:24):
all of the girls lined up tocheer her on. I was spot to
cret, but some people like cheerand more people are starting to cheer,
and I love that. I lovethis school. My little mama heart just
like exploded. I was like,oh my goodness, I can't believe this
is happening. And I turned aroundand all the moms are crying and like,

(08:46):
moms I didn't know are hugging me. And I was like it was
pretty special for me too. Peoplesaid, don't give up and let a
dreams go on. Yeah, theytell what TV. They fully believe her
athletic career will last through high school. Jen says, she's so physically active,
she is going to be the onlylimitation and I certainly don't see that

(09:09):
happening anytime soon. It's really cool. I'll put the video off at West
Michigan Star dot com. The lineupof the teammates is pretty incredible. I
was gonna say, just hear inthe joy of that. Mom's points.
I love that, movies, music, and all the gossip in one place.
It's the celebrities gup. On Starone oh five point seven, actor

(09:31):
Jamie Fox has kind of shed abit more light on exactly wallet up to
the mysterious health issue that landed himin an Atlanta hospital last year. This
is a resurfaced clip making the roundsonline yesterday. Not exactly clear when the
video was taken, but Jamie istalking to a group of people at a

(09:52):
restaurant in Phoenix, explaining the beginningof the issues as my He says April
eleventh, I had a bad headache. I asked my boy for an advil
boom. I was gone for twentydays. He admits he had no recollection

(10:16):
of anything during that twenty day hospitalstay, which is the first time we're
really hearing that he described what happened. Next, he went to his first
doctor who gave him a cord ofstone shot, and then a second doctor
told him there was something going onup there pointing at his brain. But
he's still remaining pretty secret about it, because he even said on the video
he was not going to disclose exactlywhat the doctor had said, and then

(10:39):
the video cuts off, so clearlynot ready to fully disclose what happened,
just that it was extremely serious. He's back on track now, thrilled to
start his career back up. Imean, I obviously everyone is entitled to
their own medical privacy, and Idon't think Jamie Fox has to tell anyone
if he doesn't want to. ThatBeating said, it just seems like such
at this point, like a trivialthing. I don't know what you I

(11:03):
don't know what you could be keepingprivate that would matter at this point.
You were out for twenty days. You've kind of talked about it to that
extent. Was it a stroke, was it some blood clod thing going on?
And those kinds of things. TravisKelcey says his reality show days are
done. The Chiefs tight End,who remember starred in twenty sixteen's Catching Kelsey

(11:24):
reality dating show, admits he turneddown an offer to appear in a Netflix
docuseries. So he said in thebust In with the Boys podcast after Patrick
Mahomes did Quarterback that wildly successful PeytonManning produced reality series, he did get
asked about it, but turned itdown. He said, I don't know,

(11:45):
I'd rather just play ball. I'malready doing enough with the podcast and
everything, and honestly, I'm justway over the reality bleep. Dudes,
I am out on that bleep done. Taylor Swifts, boyfriend, you don't
need to be doing television. Andfinally, this is good news. Simone
biles hobby Jonathan Owens will get towatch her in Paris. So Owens had

(12:09):
been slated to report for Chicago forBears training camp coming up on July nineteenth,
and then he was going to playin the team's Hall of Fame game
against the Texans on August first. But remember Biles, now officially headed to
Paris for the US Olympic Gymnastics team, said that those plans are going to
change. The Bears have granted hima couple of days off from training camp

(12:30):
so he'll be able to travel withher. The US gymnasts are slated to
take the floor in Paris on Julytwenty eighth, and that competition will go
for about a week, So ifChicago kind of keeps that promise, that
does mean that Owens will miss agood chunk of their preseason work. But
he says it's really really important tohim anytime he can show up for one
another in support. We just getsuper excited. Our schedules don't align that

(12:52):
much, so to be able tosee her on the biggest stage is something
that's really important to me. Imean, that is awesome that he'll get
to be there. And we sawlast summer games when former Lions backup quarterback
David Blau. His wife was partof the track and field team, so
he was there at the facilities forthe Lions. Watch watching it on the
base, You watch it probably wishinghe could be there. Yeah, I'm

(13:13):
sure all of your celeb Scooba,West, Michigan start off. Good morning
to you. It's Mack and Schmittyand here we go holiday weekend approching Schmitty
and that opposite off the Dean's RoadTrips, Big Time road trips. I
mean, everybody I know is goingto be driving. I know we've been
hearing a ton of numbers of peoplethat are going to be flying for the
Fourth of July, but we stilldo it the old school way. Pack

(13:33):
the kids in the ram truck andhead north. And I've realized the more
often I'm driving with my kids, the more I think some of maybe mining
Chris's bad driving habits have rubbed offon them, Because a good car game
is nostalgic. We all grew uplike before tablets and screen time, we
didn't have any of that. Soyou play the car games to get through

(13:56):
that four five six hour drive. My kids, I started pointing out terrible
drivers. That's their game. Sowe'll pass someone on the right and my
six year old will go, oh, Dad, is that guy a clown?
Because he's riding the left lane ofmine while I'm d which honestly is

(14:18):
better than some other language that theywill choose. Will will point out when
someone changes lanes and doesn't use achurn signal. You know, he will
also point out, like you canhear the rumble strips. If someone else
hits, somebody goes, oh boy, that guy shouldn't be out here,
and I'm just sit in the frontseat. And it's funny because this really

(14:39):
hit us over the weekend because likeFriday, we drove to and from Detroit,
Saturday we drove to and from likethe southern part of the state up
and then Sunday we drove to andfrom Lansing. So my kids had a
lot of opportunity to call out baddrivers. And we're sitting last night and
Chris goes, maybe we need to, like I don't know, figure out
something more useful and maybe a bitmore kind to do in the car than

(15:01):
for them to be sitting in theircar seats shouting at grown adults to get
a life. You know, they'rejust going to be mature for their age.
Early on SMA, Yeah, soI went to you guys because I
love hearing about great road trip gamesand not surprising, a ton of people
play at the alphabet game, right, whether you do it with license plates

(15:22):
or billboards. That was a bigone for us, especially when we would
road trip to Chicago, where mydad's from, Like we could get through
the alphabet two three times in thattrip. But some other ones are interesting.
I have never heard my car yourcar. I have no I don't
know what that one is, Brenda, but it sounds really cool. Twenty
questions is fine, Sarah, ifyou're like able to host that. We

(15:45):
do that a lot. And there'sa big difference between when mom or dad
picked the thing or when my kidspick it, because they will pick the
most obscure things that are all relevantin there in their minds. Connor will
pick a dinast or that went extinct, you know, five million years ago,
that has a very unique name you'venever heard before, and be like,
how do you guys not get this? I mean, everybody knows this.

(16:07):
Maybe I'm a bad parent, butI like to be more of a
passenger princess, so I don't wantto be a part of the game.
I want to nap my kids likeI spy. But again, that one
goes real fast because it's like Ispy something pink and then there's a water
bottle sitting right in front of myson. I'm like, is it the
water bottle? Yeah? How'd youknow? This might be my favorite though,
Jennifer, I give you all thecredit to get my kids not to

(16:30):
argue. In the back seat,we play how many cowtails are up?
Believe it or not, it wasa hit and stuck even to this day.
How many cowtails are up? Youknow what? I am one hundred
percent using that on Friday when weleave. That's better than what happens.
You know, if you can distractyour kids with something like that, that's
awesome because my kids, yeah, try as we might. As soon as

(16:52):
a BW goes by and one ofthem punches the other one and says,
slug bug, Oh no, goout. My kids sit too far.
We don't do the physical. Pointseven, my co host about to lie
on the couch. Switty, sostalky, it's Mack and Schmitty with you,
and okay, yeah, you've gotto be very careful, all right,
Switty, this this show, it'sonline. Okay, you can listen

(17:14):
to it anywhere on our free iHeartRadioapp. And the Swifties have very sharp
ears. They hear about people talkingabout the queen Schmitty. All right,
So if you are an og Swiftyyou've been listening for a while, that
means you're closer to my age andyou're going to respect this. Maybe you're
younger, and you don't get thisbecause you haven't gotten there yet. Get
off my long. I am bitterthat Taylor Swift is able to still live

(17:37):
the life that she lives. Ihave been doing stories since last week about
these huge shows. Right, shewas at Wembley in London the weekend before,
she was in Ireland this past weekend. Do you okay? Do you
know? First of all, howphysically unbelievable her shows are, right,

(17:57):
three and a half four hours, sixty two songs or something like that.
It was the most impressed by aconcert by a single performer I have ever
been. Okay, great? Andthen she gets done with these unbelievable shows,
two three nights in a row,and she goes out and parties until
four am. Taylor Sweat is almostthirty five years old. I don't know

(18:18):
if it's your nutritionist, honey.I don't know if it's your unbelievable workout
regimen. But the fact that Ihave seen pictures of you leaving a restaurant
at two am, where I canonly assume you eight and you do not
have heartburn is unbelievable. She isabout to be thirty five years old in
December. How is this girl stillliving that life? I don't even like
wearing non elastic pants because it feelslike it bloats me. I don't understand

(18:45):
how she's able to do. Whatdeal did she strike she's able to still
nine pm and I am toast forthe night. Someone texts me and says,
hey, do you want to goout if it starts at four?
If we're having dinner with the oldergeneral getting AARP discounts, count me in.
But this girl is doing a threeand a half hour show in the
party until four am, at almostthirty five years old. I will tell

(19:08):
you it makes me feel pretty badabout myself. Shmitty so stalky. Wow,
honestly I did not see that rantcoman SETTI. I mean, most
Swifties want to see Taylor get pregnantbecause they think it'll beautiful, should be
amazing. You want it because youthink it'll knock her down a peg.
Bring her down here, Get onmy level, Get out my level.
T Tevie's music and all the gossipin one place. It's the celebritiescoop on

(19:36):
Star one oh five point seven. And man, I was really hoping I'd
be able to introduce yet another newsingle from Eminem, but fans have been
lef fuming after it wasn't released. So yesterday, m revealed his new single,
Toby, would drop at midnight lastnight and back to king with a

(19:59):
pretty gruesome and graphic teaser video.Toby features Detroit's own Big Sean as well
as Baby Tron. But here weare after eight am and I still don't
see it. A lot of peoplehave taken to x showing serious disappointment.
One comment me refreshing everything to seethe Toby song and realizing Eminem hasn't dropped

(20:22):
it. Yo, where is yournew single? At? Where is Toby?
Wasn't Eminem supposed to drop something today? I've been trying to check around.
A few anonymous sources say that hejust got so sick of leaks that
now he's kind of playing a bitof a game, like, yeah,
i'd probably be out July second whencouldn't tell you. So I guess we'll

(20:42):
wait and see if we get thatnew single today. I'm honestly, you
know, he is such a marketinggenius. Yeah, I actually think this
is also a part of his masterplan. As you said right there,
everybody's talking about it. I thinkhe's doing this because now this is exactly
that's what we're all doing. We'regearing it up and now I can't wait
to hear that new song. Halseyis teasing her latest single Lucky, which

(21:03):
samples none other than Britney Spears's hittrack off of her Oops I Did It
Again album from two thousand. Sherevealed to fans yesterday with a little snippet
song why Isn't It Beautiful? Shesings that really gorgeously, writing to fans

(21:40):
twenty four years later, these wordshit different. Love you forever. Very
excited to be sampling some britt. This will be on her forthcoming new album,
which is currently untitled. I'm alwaysup for some early two thousands.
Love there, Schmittie. I wantto know what Britney thinks. You have
it all right? Finally. JellyRoll has just hun this like parade of

(22:04):
being an incredible human being. Hislatest move helping one of his fans pay
for her college tuition. Jelly Rollpledging to help Joy Gadala pay her forty
thousand a year tuition at Belmont Universityduring his free concert in Nashville recently.
The eighteen year old high school gradwho had a three point eight GPA,

(22:26):
has been taking online classes while spendingher past few months looking after her grandmother
in the hospital, who's actually alast minute decision. She stood in line
for almost six hours to try andget in and see him perform. That's
when she took a chance, heldup her phone that just said help me
pay tuition. He saw it,pointed out and said, I am going

(22:49):
to help you change your life.Joy actually joined WKR and Nashville to talk
about why this is extra important toher. I am a year and seven
month sober. Anything Jelly played arole now, most definitely, Yeah,
most definitely. I was just inshock, an incredible shock, one year,
seven months sober, and she saysJelly Roll was a huge part of

(23:10):
that life changing decision. So nowJoy is standing by Jelly's people, going
to get in touch with her andhelp her pay her touition. Is so
crazy on multiple levels. The partabout it being a big influence on her
getting sober just goes to show youhow much this guy opening up and sharing
his own story of struggle and redemptionand everything else, changing lives, changing
lives. I've got that full interview. It's really cool. To see that

(23:33):
moment with your scoop at West MichiganStar dot Com points, haven't let's throw
down at his Battle of the SexiestTime Mack and SCHMIDDI with you and trying
to get you and some friends into a great show tomorrow night, Meyer
Gardens. It's Amos Lee hitting thestage. So we've got your number one
answer that's going to score you fourtickets to this unbelievable show. He's been
a couple of times because he's sucha fan favorite at the Gardens. Six

(23:57):
one, six, four five eightone of five caller seven first chance.
One hundred women surveyed. Name aplace you always spend more time than you
planned? Ooh, I don't knowabout one hundred women's top answer for me,
it's the car every time I thinkI'm going someplace. Oh, I'll
be there in forty five minutes,an hour and a half later, I

(24:17):
have done all the things I neededto do with I'm done. Mine's the
bathroom, but that's just because I'mpotty training still and that will be the
rest of my life. Six one, six, four, five eight,
one oh five. Seven one hundredwomen surveyed. Name a place you always
spend more time than you planned Callerseven, first chance at the number one
answer. You'll be seeing Amous leadtomorrow night at the Frederick Meyer Gardens with
starbar five point seven star. Who'sthis? Hi, Judy, Judy,

(24:41):
where you're coming from today? Rumcan't one? All rad Judy. One
hundred women were asked to name aplace you always spend more time at than
you planned on? What do youthink? Their top answer was Judy garden
center? Ooh, the gardens center. Yeah. I could walk into you
know, a country side or evenjust like Low's or home depot and just

(25:03):
walk around for days, I feellike. But not on the list.
I'm sorry, Judy, thank you, good morning. Star. Who's this,
Adam? Adam? Where you callingfrom today? Man? All right,
Adam put your mind into female modebecause one hundred women were asked to
name or place you always spend moretime than you planned on? And I

(25:23):
just got a good guess from Judy, who said the gardening center, you
know, like countryside or Low's homedepot wherever you go get your plans,
whatever that is. And that wasa good guess, but not on the
list. So Adam, you gota chance. What do you think it
is okay, I'm on a grocerystore. Ooh, the grocery store,
especially if you bring your kids withyou. That's gonna slow things down having

(25:45):
to tell them, no, we'renot buying that every fifteen seconds. That's
the top answer. Well done,Adam. Yeah, you're going to check
on Amus Lead tomorrow night with fourtickets to get to that show. Cool
yeap, gonna be a good one. It was a grocery store, followed
by the mall, then work, and finally a party. Yeah. I
always staying too late at the party, running out those top answers. And

(26:06):
we'll do it again tomorrow, alast chance at another four pack of tickets
for amos Lee at the Meyer Gardenstomorrow eight fifteen. Here unstar win Oh
five points. Good morning to you. It's Mack and Schmidty. And you
know there's memes galor Schmidty out therethat say something to the effect of being
coming an adult is just fighting overwhat you want to eat for dinner every

(26:29):
single night for the rest of yourlife. Right, well, I want
to know for you whether or notyour family dinners are more of a democracy
sort of where everyone's opinions matter andyou vote on it or is it a
dictatorship and somebody just decides for thegroup, because how did you grow up?
I grew up in a dictatorship. This is what's on the table,
this is what you eat, oryou can head to bed hungry. Yeah

(26:49):
it was Yeah, that is exactlyhow my life was, and it's kind
of how you know, we havestructured things too, but last night it
was really put into those civics termsby my wife. My kids are actually
off to Chicago a little later ontoday while Michelle and I go take a
trip later this week, and soit was our last night together for a
few days. So we decided totake them out last night, had some
fun, went to AJ's batting cages, all that good stuff. But then

(27:11):
we were deciding what to eat fordinner, and I, silly me,
was like, well, let's geteveryone's opinion on this, all right,
So what do you guys want fordinner? And to immediately my son's like
firehouse subs, my daughter Chick fila yeah, And I was like,
oh, I don't know, I'mfeeling more of a sub. And here
comes my wife out of left fieldand goes, we're going to q Noba.

(27:34):
I was like, I was like, mom's role. Nobody, nobody
chose that. And she's like, yeah, but that's because you guys think
that we're voting. We're not voting. I'm telling you where we're going to
eat dinner. This is this isnot a democracy. It's a dictatorship.
Good for her, yes, silentlost he saying this, but like immediately
my kids are like, what's thedictatorship? And I'm like, it means

(27:56):
your mom's like the emperor, she'sthe king. And my son goes,
does that mean you're the queen?Dad? And I go, no,
buddy, lower than that, I'mreally more of a gesture here to make
comments, to make you guess thedoors, no power whatsoever in this.
So no, I'm definitely not thequeen. I'm more of a gesture here,
buddy. And then we just startedtalking about whether or not you get

(28:17):
to decide these things in life,or whether or not they are decided for
you, And it ultimately comes downto who's cooking it or who's buying it,
because at the end of the day, that's the person with the power.
Yeah, they've got the saber. So I asked this online schmitty.
I got some of the most amazinganswers on this. Did you see this,
Deborah? She says, my houseautocratic. I asked, I asked

(28:40):
what they want, and then Ido what I want. Yeah, Yeah,
I guess I'd like to think thatour house is a dictatorship and I'm
the one in charge. But y'allknow I have a three year old and
she scares me so honestly, Sophiais the dictatorship that runs the Schmidty household.
That's a pretty good one there.I think a lot of households are
more like Rose. She didn't saydemocracy, she didn't say dic prietorship.

(29:03):
She just said anarchy. Oh sometime, does that get a good feeling jamming
out? Heart right there? Hopefullythat as you're feeling good, but we'll
lift you up even higher right now. It's starting a fine points you have
in macka schmiddy with you, alwayshere to spread a little positivity, feeling
good, what's going on. Youmay not have officially met him, but

(29:26):
I guarantee you've seen him. MichaelWhipple aka Smiles every day. He stands
on the corner of Lane Avenue andSecond Street, just outside of downtown Grand
Rapids, looking for spare change forsmiles. Fox seventeen caught up with him
on his usual corner with his signsready and that's what it's all about.

(29:49):
When people smile, their endorphins goup, they feel good when they go
home. We have driven past himmultiple times. My kids always get so
excited. He's out there every singleday, usually two to three times throughout
the day. Michael has made morethan five hundred cardboard signs with different sayings

(30:10):
and jokes. He does credit Googlewith hoping out a bit. The tradition
goes back about five and a halfyears. But when he started this little
venture, it was just one wordhe had on his sign. The first
line I ever held out here saidsmile. Sought to give was a smile.
People loved it, and that's howhe got the nickname. He said

(30:32):
that he finds himself a Bridge Streetmarket or somewhere in the neighborhood and people
will say, hey, Smiles, how's it going. Smiles Smiles as a
West Michigan native, graduated from Caledoniain nineteen seventy two, both a veteran
and retired bartender, which is howhe came up with the jokes. Because
when you make people happy, theytip better. And in fact, the
seventy year old is not homeless. He lives just down the street. This

(30:56):
is all making people's day. Peoplewill come quite any money. I think,
well, I wanted your smile, and then they smile and they feel
better day. It's so sweet. So if you find yourself at the corner
of Lane and second, there's aguy holding up a hilarious joke, that's
Michael and he just wants to makea smile. Very cool, schmetty ah.

(31:18):
This is a story that evolves theOlympics, but sadly it won't involve
an Olympian, at least not forthe twenty twenty four Paris Games. However,
Michelle Roll of Wisconsin has already competedin the Olympics as a long distance
runner in nineteen ninety two, nineteenninety six and the two thousand Olympic Games.

(31:38):
But then she retired in her midthirties. She retired so that she
could homeschool her five children, andnow her kids ranging from ages eighteen to
thirty three, and that thirty threeyear old just welcome to a baby.
So now Michelle's a grandma. Butshe decided to come out of retirement for
one more endeavor into her athletic career. After about twenty years out of competitive

(32:02):
sports, she has made a hugecomeback, training rigazrigulously to be a speed
walker. Schmidty, have you seenspeed walking in the Olympics. Yeah,
there's a lot of movement there.I'll be honest with you. It makes
me uncomfortable sometimes, but still it'samazing. And she has been training like
a mad woman, forty five milesper week, walking eight minute per mile

(32:22):
paces. She's overcome several injuries ofconcussion last year, just got stitches in
her chin a few weeks ago.But as her husband Michael says, I've
never known anyone who is as mentallytough as her. Flash forward to Saturday,
Schmitty, she plays third at theUS Olympic Team Trials, a twenty

(32:44):
k race. She comes in thirdat the age of fifty eight, and
sadly she would be headed to theOlympics if the US wasn't just so bad
compared to the rest of the world. It's speed walking. They only take
the top thirty in the Olympics. The number one speed walker in the US
comes in around fiftieth in the world. We're not even close. America's bad

(33:05):
at walking, Schmitty. I don'tknow what that says about us, but
we've got her proven we'll walk atany age, so I'll take that.
I love it. Congratulations to MichelleRoll. Just hoping to be an inspiration
to others out there, saying,if you believe in yourself and you put
in the work, you can getit done. That's what we want for
all of our Olympic athletes. Feelinggood comes at you twice a day.
I always here to tell you aboutsomething amazing going on out there. Let's

(33:27):
do it again tomorrow six forty fiveand nine to twenty every weekday here on
Star Mack and Schmidty in the morningweekday starting at six am on Star one
oh five point seven
