Speaker 1 (00:02):
Wakem It gets my day going and makes me laugh.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
I of it Mac and Schmitty in the morning on
Star one, on five point seven on Smitty Good Morning,
into begand Eve and the final day in July.
Speaker 3 (00:19):
Yeah, that's wild.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
It is weird to think about, and I am my
summer soul hurts a little bit standing out loud. But
at the same time, it is also the first day
of any semblance of football season.
Speaker 4 (00:31):
Here we go.
Speaker 3 (00:32):
Well, just gonna say, it's also payday. Here you go, guys,
you've got the direct deposit comes in a little early
from the first, So there you go.
Speaker 4 (00:39):
Is that how it works? I don't even know.
Speaker 2 (00:41):
I wasn't sure whether it was the thirtieth or the
thirty first, or whether or not it's the first. I
had no idea because of direct deposit. I mose there, that's.
Speaker 4 (00:49):
Nice, man.
Speaker 3 (00:51):
But yeah, you're right. It does not matter what the
weather looks like. Tonight, y'all are going to be in
front of your TV watching the Detroit Lion Sol of
Fame game coming our way tonight against the char A
lot of people at work today dressed in that Lion's gear.
I know people are pretty ready for it.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
I didn't you know what. Now I feel like a
crappy fan. I feel like a bad fan.
Speaker 3 (01:09):
You don't wear a single piece of anything.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
It's preseason, do it? Do I have to do that
until Jared Goff takes the field? Do I have to
wear my Lions gear?
Speaker 3 (01:16):
I'm coming in Bear's gear in a couple weeks when
we start up. It's gonna be a good one, you guys.
And of course just a couple days away from that weekend.
And to just sense it this morning, Wow, walking outside
was such a nice break. I was out on the
porch at my friends last night with that rain coming down.
You could feel that temp changed. Hopefully that's putting you
in a nice mood because it feels good.
Speaker 1 (01:38):
Movies, music and all the gossip in one place.
Speaker 2 (01:41):
It's the celebritiescoop on Star one oh five point seven.
Speaker 3 (01:45):
Well, the Prince of Darkness had quite a send off yesterday,
Ozzy Osbourne beginning that procession of his hearse through the
streets of Birmingham, that is the hometown where he lived,
grew up, and it was his family on hand. Very emotional.
So many pictures and video are still coming out this morning.
(02:06):
Sharon Osbourne especially just looking absolutely heartbroken over the loss
of the love of her life. And it's what her
and the family did in very touching tributes to the
Black Sabbath rocker Sharon paying a subtle tribute if you noticed,
she was actually wearing his wedding ring on a necklace
(02:26):
as she greeted fans, dropped flowers at the memorial, and
then popped up those two piece signs a nod to
something Ozzie always did at shows. Sharon not the only
member of the Osbourne family. Check this out greeting those fans.
(02:56):
It's a really cool moment. Ozzie's son Lewis from his
first marriage, wearing a purple tie featuring a skull in
crossbones of his dad's. Kelly wore his iconic sunglasses, Jack
wearing a small silver crosspin on the end of his
tie for Ozzie, and lastly, his daughter Amy pinning a
bat brooch to her blazer. All were together helping mom
(03:19):
through this. But it was just a really really cool moment.
Speaker 2 (03:22):
Yeah, sounds like a pretty epic celebration of life for sure.
Speaker 3 (03:25):
Well, now that the criminal trial is over, Diddy has
got a mountain of civil lawsuits to fight and he
is getting started while he is still sitting in jail. Remember,
and one of the bigger suits actually involves his son,
Christian aka King Combs and a supposed yacht party. The
Bad Boy founder is a co defendant in a civil
(03:45):
suit accusing King of alleged abuse. Now this is not
something that is sitting well with Diddy. He says the
lawsuit should be thrown out immediately because it incorrectly claims
he chartered a yacht where the leged assault occurred. He said,
there is no agreement about this. I never did this.
We were not a part of this. I am trying
(04:06):
to find the actual number of civil cases he is facing,
because these are only two so far, and his legal
team is gearing up for a lot of work ahead
of them. And remember he's also still waiting for his sentencing,
which isn't coming up till October.
Speaker 2 (04:21):
Third. Yeah, even absorption from criminal trial does not absolve
you at all from the civil trial. And that is
more often than not where they absolutely take every dime
you've ever had.
Speaker 3 (04:30):
And finally, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck will not be
bringing Hulk Hogan's life to the big screen. This is
a rumor I've seen for the past few weeks. However,
they're saying that decision has absolutely nothing to do with
his recent passing. Source to say that the Stars production
company Artists' Equity is not moving forward with the project.
(04:52):
This has been in development for some time. It's kind
of been shopping a few different studios. Ben and Matt's
reps are saying this decision was made a soon, super
super long time ago. This is not related. Unclear why
they decided not to do it, but it has nothing
There's no bad blood here. It's just the fact that
not a project that they saw themselves able to do.
Speaker 2 (05:11):
I'll be shocked if in the next five years somebody
doesn't do a haul COVID movie.
Speaker 3 (05:16):
Me interested, that'll be interesting.
Speaker 2 (05:18):
It seems like straight to streaming.
Speaker 3 (05:19):
Right maybe yeah, all right, all of your celeb scoop
at West Michigan star dot.
Speaker 2 (05:23):
Com, feeling good on star win O five point seven
here to share a little positivity and then this is
just kind of kismet, right, meant to be that if
there was going to be a rescue needed at Coastguard Fest,
then it would be done by a member of our
US Coast Guard. And that's what actually happened as a
ninety seven year old man fell in to the Grand
(05:44):
River over in Grand Haven while visiting the Coastguard festival.
It happened on Tuesday evening during the ship tours as
a ninety seven year old man was resting on his walker.
He lost his balance. It'll wound up falling more than
six feet down into the Grand River. Luckily, saman Joseph
Turk immediately jumped it in the water to assist as
(06:06):
a Coast Guard member in his first year actually with
the Coast Guard. He had to sit there and tread
water for more than twenty minutes while Cruz lowered some
rescue equipment. But you know what, he was lucky enough
to have some training recently that helped him out. Plus
a whole crowd of bystanders there who were to help
him make this rescue pretty wild to He describe the
(06:27):
whole scene to Woods TV eight.
Speaker 5 (06:30):
We're trained on how to do that. So the first
thing is yelling man overboard and alerting others that we
have a problem, and then went in the water and
then tons of people just swarmed and started helping. The
main focus is immediately just try to open up an
airway so he can breathe get his head above water.
That's just the number one thing. I actually was lucky
enough to do a little surface swimmer training just a
(06:52):
few days before.
Speaker 2 (06:53):
Word spread quickly.
Speaker 5 (06:55):
We got a litter in the water, which is a
big basket that we can we can pull him out with.
People saw him go in and then we just do
what we trained force sempraparatus. That's that's the motto means
always ready.
Speaker 2 (07:07):
People saw him go in and maybe you heard it.
Maybe he did. He just snapped his fingers and he
was in the water. But yeah, Coast Guard member making
a big rescue. A Coastguard fest.
Speaker 3 (07:15):
His daughter Laurie Potter spoke out last night. Oh my gosh,
she was just like guardian angels. This is why we
trust these incredible people with rescues, and said, we're in
shock because we almost lost him and if it wasn't
for these wonderful people, it was really amazing. Talk about
this on your subway ride. A teeny tidy baby kitten
crossing the doors into the New York subway system. This
(07:39):
is a video posted to TikTok. The moment seen by
more than three million people in less than a Day
shows a little tabby cat literally the size of your hand,
crossing the gap between the platform and the train during
a very busy New York eight am commute last week.
Passenger stunt.
Speaker 6 (08:00):
Can twar the closing doors.
Speaker 3 (08:06):
But that's okay because but Sida Mercado happened to be
on that train and in a viral moment, she is
now a cat mom. That's right, she's adopted at the
Homeless Kitten. Talking to the Today Show, she said, my
first thought was making sure she was okay. My second
thought was, oh, I'm going to be a cat mom.
She went on to tell them, I think God put
(08:26):
me on that train. He put me on that schedule
so I would be the one. She seemed like she
was really lost and no longer she has found her mommy.
And the amount of pictures that this new cat mom
has posted of her and this cute tabby is really cute.
She's named her Emmy. Can check it out at West
Michigan Star dot com.
Speaker 1 (08:45):
Movies, music, and all the gossip in one place.
Speaker 2 (08:48):
It's the celebrities goop on Star one oh five point seven.
Speaker 3 (08:53):
All right, it's really hard to tell us they are
just friends. A couple days after a day night or
what looked like a date night between former Canadian Prime
Minister Justin Trudeau and singer Katie Perry. Trudeau was spotted
with dang near front row seats at her concert last
night in Montreal. Pictures are out this morning. I'm showing
(09:14):
him singing and dancing and I don't think the smile
left his face once. This comes after the story broke
that the couple had dinner together Monday night after going
for a daytime stroll through the park together. They were
then spotted on a rooftop terrace late Monday night into
early Tuesday morning having drinks. They're saying it's just a
(09:37):
friendly thing, but when you look at the fact they've
spent almost all of her time in Montreal together, Oh,
I'm not so sure.
Speaker 2 (09:44):
I mean, I did not see this couple coming. I
don't even know what to think about it, other than
I feel like this is possibly the best rebound relationships
that either one of them could have ever possibly home for.
Speaker 3 (09:55):
You know, they both look like they're having fun whatever,
like he is. And I gotta tell you that Justin Trudeau, oh,
Katy Perry dansing is definitely worth seeing if you want
to check it out at West Michigan Star dot com.
Justin Timberlake is seriously considering a reunion tour within Sync,
if for anything else, to try and fix his current career.
(10:17):
The singer has faced a barrage of criticism over his
Forget Tomorrow World tour. I've had a ton of stories.
Most recently, fans ticked he's not even singing. There's been
video that has surfaced from Europe, South America and other
shows where he's literally just like I've gotta holds the
mic out and the fans are singing the rest of
(10:38):
the I've Got a Feeling song. People say, listen, this
isn't even worth our ticket money. While Justin's apparently sources
say that he's very very disappointed. He understands why fans
are so upset about things, and he didn't realize that
the tour was going to take a turn like this
and now feels like he's only saving grace is to
get back within Sync. The songs they did for the
(11:00):
Trolls soundtrack were wildly popular, very well received, a ton
of fans going, we would pay money to see this.
He knows that he needs to get back together, and
after the tour is done, he wants to sit down
with the other four guys, reunite and make an in
sync reunion tour finally happen. He's even talking TV movies, documentary,
(11:22):
anything to help his image out.
Speaker 2 (11:24):
Interesting. It's sad, really, just because I know that at
least a few years ago when he was on tour,
all I heard was how phenomenal it was. I think
it was the Man of the Woods tour.
Speaker 3 (11:35):
You've seen the videos of this one, yeah, and I
just pretty rough.
Speaker 2 (11:37):
I can't believe what's going on in his life to
make it down tour.
Speaker 3 (11:40):
How do you feel like the other four guys?
Speaker 6 (11:42):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (11:42):
Now I need you guys, because I'm in a bad place,
like I don't know if that comes off real.
Speaker 2 (11:47):
Quack j his mutton chops.
Speaker 3 (11:50):
No, I don't know, Lance Bass. You can do it
on your own, honey. You've got a lot of TikTok followers,
all right. Finally, the Baltimore Ravens are making quite a splash.
Even though they play football. They have asked none other
than gold medalist Michael Phelps to teach them how to swim.
This TikTok has gone viral cornerback Marlon Humphrey posting the
(12:13):
video asking for help and mister.
Speaker 2 (12:16):
Phelps, we have a problem.
Speaker 3 (12:19):
Did you know that one or three Ravens cannot swim?
Speaker 2 (12:23):
We have a solution for you, sir. Come to Ravens
Training Campion in this beautiful Aquadi center and teach us
how to swim.
Speaker 3 (12:32):
That's exactly what's happening, Phelps replying, I got y'all, let's
do it. He is gonna teach Ravens players how to swim.
This is also a really fabulous point of awareness of
access to things like swim lessons for so many in
our community. So it's really cool. I've got the video
posted with your scoop at West Michigan Start.
Speaker 2 (12:51):
I good morning too. It's Mack and Schmidti, And you've
just asked a conversation that I think a lot of
parents have when they get those classroom lists for the year,
like you'll see it over the next time week or so.
Speaker 3 (13:01):
Already got ours, yep, what is your responsibility to pay
for even using that word? I think is already really
going to set people off, because I was stunned. I
saw this on TikTok a few days ago, and the
amount of comments and the fifty to fifty feel from
supportive parents versus really angry parents. So this is a
(13:23):
teacher who has gone viral over video calling out parents
for refusing to pitch in on extra school supplies she
says are used for the quote unquote community. Here's what
she says in her video, just.
Speaker 7 (13:36):
To work clear, I've expected to take a bullet for
little Johnny and his classmates, but little Johnny's mother does
not see it fit to provide for the community with
some clorox wipe, some tissues, maybe an extra pack of
pencils like that.
Speaker 3 (13:50):
That's what we're going with right now. It's really wild,
and at first I thought everybody's going to be on
the side of the teacher. I was blown away at
some of the response videos from parents that are like,
are you kidding me? I'm sorry, I'm barely making it
work for the supplies my kid needs. So yeah, you're
gonna need to figure that out on your own. There's
(14:12):
other people jumping in like, you guys have no idea
how much money these teachers are already spending out of
pocket for things for the classroom. And one of the
more interesting comments I saw if a school can afford
a chromebook for every kid, how come they can't afford
tissues and chlorox wipes. I'm I'm interested to hear how
you guys feel about this as a parent or as
(14:33):
a teacher. Give us a call about these things.
Speaker 2 (14:37):
I am. I am kind of torn as a you know,
teacher's kid, husband of a teacher. I know how much
teachers put into it of their own money in supplying
those things, and it's whatever is necessary, whatever they need.
But I think the statistic is, like the average teacher
spends over a thousand dollars of their own money.
Speaker 3 (14:53):
Yeah, I don't think we're talking hundreds here. For my mom,
it was always into those thousands range.
Speaker 2 (14:59):
And that is, you know, so obviously something you don't
feel like teachers who are already underpaid should have to do,
so you want that parental help. At the same time,
it is really tough to justify things like that, like, yeah,
you gave my kid a chromebook, but we are over
here like shaming parents for not bringing in enough tissues
like it does feel weird as that juxta position just
(15:21):
is right in your face.
Speaker 3 (15:21):
I guess I wish I knew how funding like this
happened yase. Lisa says that on our Facebook school should
be funded in a way that teachers are not spending
out of pocket for classroom supplies, but neither are parents.
She makes the chromebook argument, But then there's Teresa. She
goes it takes a village. That means you're the village.
Donate the extras. We always got emails from teachers that
(15:42):
were like, hey, could really use your help. We're six
months into the year. We're out of Clorox wipes. By
the way, we wipe everything down otherwise your kid comes
some sick. Like I personally, I would give you any
amount of money. You're taking my children and teaching them,
which is something I cannot do and I'm certainly not
gifted enough to do. But this was really and the
(16:02):
amount of people going after teachers. Are we blaming the
wrong people? I don't know.
Speaker 2 (16:08):
I think that it's a you know, it's one of
those things where the answer is there's a problem and
it has to be solved. You want your kids to
have the things that they need in a.
Speaker 3 (16:17):
Classroom, right, So who is that? I think is what
I want to know. Six one six, four five eight
one oh five seven I'd love to hear from parents.
Are you down with Yeah, I'm going to bring a
Casco palette, kleenex in or teachers? Are you finding this
a problem? Parents? Starting to maybe bite back a little bit, saying, Lisa,
I've already done what I can do. You got to
(16:38):
figure something else out four five eight, one oh five seven.
If you're more comfortable, you can totally message us on
our free iHeartRadio app. We'll keep you anonymous.
Speaker 1 (16:45):
Please music and all the gossip in one place.
Speaker 2 (16:49):
It's the celebrities goop on Star one oh five point seven.
Speaker 3 (16:53):
Well, now I have to watch and see if this
could actually be true. Was Taylor Swift in Happy Gilmore?
The Adam Sandler hit, of course, dropped on Netflix just
a few days ago, and yesterday the streaming giant posted
so behind the scenes footage of working with Travis Kelsey
on the film. Here's what that sounded like.
Speaker 6 (17:12):
I can't I'm gonna tie you up.
Speaker 3 (17:27):
You can't make that up, baby. Here's the deal. That
is a scene where Travis is apparently attacked by a bear.
They think Taylor was in a bear costume.
Speaker 2 (17:35):
That would be so awesome.
Speaker 3 (17:36):
The Swifties are absolutely positive because She has spoken in
the past about how much fun it would be to
be a part of this. She was really excited for
trav and they're saying, why do I feel like Taylor
was in the bear suit? And this is something that
only the behind the scenes people are gonna get to enjoyed.
They're absolutely positive that was her.
Speaker 2 (17:54):
Honestly, if she's willing to come out to her shows
in a rolling broom closet, I would.
Speaker 3 (17:59):
Not surprise exactly so good. This is big news a
shake up at ESPN. Shannon Sharp is out. The network
has officially cut ties with the Pro Football Hall of
Famer less than two weeks after settling that assault lawsuit.
News of the split dropped yesterday, a massive decision. Sharp
(18:20):
was a big part of First Take after he left
FS one. He has adamantly denied any wrongdoing, claiming he
had nothing more than a consensual relationship. He's calling it
a shakedown, but apparently that did nothing for ESPN, who
asked the major talent. Yesterday afternoon, Shannon spoke out about this.
He's upset because he learned this news and said, can
(18:43):
you hold off a few days and they refused.
Speaker 8 (18:46):
I will not be returning to ESPN. I found out
this information a little earlier in the week, and really
the only thing that I really ask is, like, guys,
could we wait until Monday. My brother's going into the
Pro Football Hall of Fame. I really wanted to be
about him, and I wanted to be about my family.
I know this would I said, this coming out will
overshadow everything that he's worked his entire life for us,
(19:09):
and unfortunately, you know, it didn't happen that way.
Speaker 3 (19:11):
He's not real stoked about that. He does keep his podcast,
so nothing is changing there. Finally, Jason Momoa is a
clean shaven man. What this Instagram video called a lot
of Eyes yesterday.
Speaker 4 (19:28):
I hate it.
Speaker 3 (19:29):
It's so perfect, and it's in a partnership. Of course,
Jason has not shaved in six years since doing Dune,
but now he is back in clean shaven. A lot
of this has to do with Yes, he is launching
a company called Manana Lua. I believe it's how you
say it. It's a partnership rolling out a closed loop
shaving system that's made plastic breed great for the environment.
Speaker 2 (19:52):
Honestly, he looks terrible.
Speaker 4 (19:54):
It's fear. He looks like an all different person.
Speaker 3 (19:56):
He looks bigger. It's weird.
Speaker 2 (19:58):
Yeah, he's got he's got chevy face. He's got like
big cheeks that you never saw before. He shaped his
face at all. Got a good look for you guys.
Speaker 3 (20:07):
Take a look. I got the video for you with
your scoop at West Michigan Star dot Com.
Speaker 2 (20:13):
I live this Sexy is on this Thursday. You got
to get you in to a combo of two of
the Disney Channel's biggest shows.
Speaker 3 (20:20):
SCHMITTI yeah, this is Descendants and Zombies. In fact, Zombie
Spoor just dropped on Disney like two weeks ago.
Speaker 6 (20:26):
I know.
Speaker 2 (20:26):
I'm already had seen my kids watch it at least twice.
Speaker 3 (20:29):
This is the tour that they're gonna love, and it's
coming up Little Caesar's Arena. August seventeenth. You have today's
number one answer. We've got your tickets. One hundred women surveyed,
what would you want handy after eating an ear of corn?
This has already hit my seven year old. He now
walks around with flossers, those little of the ones that happen. Yep,
(20:49):
it happened last week. We had corn for dinner and
he went, mom, do you have a Floster City? On
then he goes, I should just have this in my pocket,
and I went, oh, no.
Speaker 2 (20:56):
We have those little corn on the cobs spikes that
go in on the ends. Hold them so you don't
like it?
Speaker 3 (21:02):
Used to have those.
Speaker 2 (21:02):
I never had those as a kid. I feel like
it's yeah, hold the corn. It's fine.
Speaker 3 (21:06):
No, my kids played Star Wars with them, so we
had to put the corn picks away. Six one, six, four, five, eight,
one five seven. One hundred women surveyed what would you
want handy after eating an ear of corn? Number one answer,
you are going to the World's collide to her with
star Win O five point seven?
Speaker 2 (21:24):
Good morning? Sorry, who's this? Shanda, Shunda? Where are you
calling from today? All right, shand you got to tell me.
One hundred women were asked what might you want to
have handy after eating an ear of corn? Toothpicks, toothpicks.
It's actually uh, I think corn on the cob and
steak are basically the only reason I own toothpicks, but
(21:45):
they are so necessary sometimes and toothpicks.
Speaker 4 (21:49):
The top answer Seana, way to go, good deal.
Speaker 2 (21:53):
Yeah, I guess you've got four tickets to go check
out Descendants and Zombies World to collide to or over
on the east side at Little Caesar's Arena. Oh good,
that's gonna be a great time for the kiddos. We
want to get your family over there as well. We'll
do it again tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (22:11):
Battle of the.
Speaker 2 (22:11):
Sexes eight fifteen here on Star. Congrat Syonda, I'm still
gonna find points seven. Good morning to you. It's Mac
and Schmidty. And of course, the tsunami was the biggest
story literally across the world yesterday, and thank goodness that
in most places it wound up not being as big
of a factor as they thought it could be.
Speaker 3 (22:30):
I don't think any loss of life.
Speaker 2 (22:32):
Fortunate, extremely fortunate, because those tsunamis can be absolutely insanely devastating.
But every time there's some big natural disaster like that, Shmandie.
I don't know if it's just me, but I go
through all the daymares of what it would be like
to be in them. And I used to be really
into whether maybe I wanted to be a meteorologist, so
I could be wrong all the time and still because
(22:53):
correct I'm just saying, but beyond that, like I wanted
to be in a hurricane, I wanted to be near.
Speaker 3 (22:59):
Tornadoes, scientists. Yeah, that's what my son wants to do.
He wants to study phenomenon like this with weather.
Speaker 2 (23:05):
I've always been absolutely fascinated, and I think most people
with that fascination comes a healthy dose of terror.
Speaker 3 (23:11):
Right, well should mother nature is unreal.
Speaker 2 (23:14):
So I wanted to know what is the natural disaster,
whether it's likely to happen to you or not. We
don't get a lot of them here in Michigan. Maybe
you know, we don't get a lot of hurricanes, right,
so maybe it's something that doesn't happen realistically where you're at,
But it's just that one that has always terrified you.
Do you have one that sticks out in your head? Oh,
flash flood, flash flood?
Speaker 3 (23:33):
Yeah, because because I think a lot of people are like,
I can swim, I have a life checket, and you
have no idea the power of water, and I would
be so horrified to try and save myself, my children
and my dogs. I would never Watching Texas was just horrifying.
Speaker 2 (23:48):
Without a doubt to me, it was it's always forest fires,
like because in my head you always think like yah, yeah,
you're just gonna You're just gonna get out of there
real quick. But in reality the is they can trap
you so fast, and that's one of those ones where
I feel like you have, you know, immediately lost control.
You can't see, you can't breathe, You're just there and
(24:09):
there's nothing you can do. And I have always just thought, like,
how insane is it when you read all the articles
about four thousand acres being destroyed here, twenty thousand over there,
and like where is all this land that can get
burnt down? And how does it not just come into
cities like the La fires last year that was unreal
(24:29):
and just look apocalyptic. It'm so freaky.
Speaker 3 (24:31):
This is interesting. A study forty four percent of people
say tornadoes see tornadoes.
Speaker 2 (24:37):
I guess maybe it's the maybe it's the Helen Hunts
bill or bill text in effect, but I've always wanted
to stand right next to one, even during these crazy
tornadoes that we had this year. There was that couple
that had their wedding photo that went viral with the
tornado behind them. I'm like, that's awesome. People don't take
tornadoes seriously enough.
Speaker 3 (24:56):
I'll tell you. Put this on Facebook and Angel wrote,
yellows eruptive, honey, that is an absolute Roman empire of
mine because there are two Netflix series that are really
terrifying when you find out how many volcanoes exist underneath
our land. So if you want to actually be even
more terrified, you can go ahead and DM me and
(25:16):
I'll give you the titles of those shows and you
will not sleep for days.
Speaker 2 (25:20):
Well, let's put a little positivity into your morning, like
we do each and every day. It's feeling good on
star winar fom foint seven. What's happening today? Schmidne Man.
Speaker 3 (25:27):
How much I wish that I could have been in
Alan Park yesterday. If you're not aware, the Detroit Lions
have a tradition of hosting a dog adoption event at
training camp every year where fans can meet and potentially
adopt dogs from amazing organizations. Well, yesterday it was the
Canine Companion's Rescue Center who brought a ton of pets
(25:52):
hoping they might find their forever home. And because we
are talking Lions football, they were spread out into I'm
seriously cute fans.
Speaker 6 (26:02):
This is Tony.
Speaker 2 (26:03):
She is about a twelve week old pitbull tight mix.
Speaker 3 (26:07):
You can clearly see that.
Speaker 2 (26:08):
She's had a busy day today, so she's nice.
Speaker 3 (26:10):
And sleepy, So let's head over here, and this is
our offense litter.
Speaker 2 (26:15):
Oh, no, they are.
Speaker 3 (26:16):
And then we have some more overun this. These are
also some of the siblings from that litter. This is
the defense litter.
Speaker 6 (26:25):
You want to play.
Speaker 3 (26:26):
Oh, it's so cute. Shout out to WWJ there on
scene for the defense and offense litter. And I'm just
gonna tell you, guys, maybe this is from my ladies.
If you thought coach Campbell couldn't get cuter, I have
a picture posted for you of him with one of
those adaptable dogs at West Michigan Star dot Com. It's
such a cool event. It's such an awesome partnership. It's
(26:49):
gonna be a lot of fun for them tonight too at.
Speaker 2 (26:51):
That opening game big time. I love that you brought
up coach Dan Campbell. And I'm really glad that you
didn't call him daddy Dan. It makes me so uncomfortable.
Speaker 3 (26:58):
We call him that on certain other shows.
Speaker 4 (27:00):
All right, it's many.
Speaker 2 (27:02):
Two Grand Rapid Central High School seniors have won a
nationwide student film contest. This is really cool. Caleb Jesse
and Daniel Euer from Grand Rapid Central High School had
a short film about food insecurity called apples, and it
highlights how people often waste food while they're struggling with hunger,
(27:23):
and as Caleb tells Fox seventeen, it's all about the
various journeys that something as simple as an apple might
have for the impact that it has in our community.
Speaker 9 (27:31):
It shows the various ways in which people can waste
food and fruit specifically like apples. For example, a guy
throws them off the bridge, somebody uses them for target practice,
on other throws it away because it's mushy, and gradually
they all end up in this river.
Speaker 2 (27:46):
Yeah, that river, Well it's the Grand River. Because they
actually filmed this whole film on a busted up smartphone,
a Samsung Galaxy, right there on the Blue Bridge on
the Grand River. So, you know, kind of low tech
for an award winning film to be done. But this
was something very near and dear to these guys' hearts.
Not only were they trying to make a great movie
(28:06):
for this contest, but Daniel shared his personal connection to
this issue too.
Speaker 10 (28:12):
My family grew up on food stamps, kind of paycheck
to paycheck and people throwing away food like this is
just a problem to people in need.
Speaker 2 (28:23):
That's right. One point five million people right here in
the state of Michigan face hunger, including more than four
hundred thousand children according to Feeding America. So this was
a really important topic. And Jesse and yours film stood
out among the seventy two submissions, ten of which from
right here in Grand Rapids. But they were declared the
nationwide winners, picking up a thousand bucks. And Caleb's going
(28:44):
to be traveling to Los Angeles where he'll actually get
to watch their film in Paramount's private screening room. How
cool is that? Really impressive? With the money they're gonna
split it, Caleb's gonna give going to invest his share,
and Daniel intends to get a better computer, possibly for
future film projects.
Speaker 3 (29:01):
Yea, making you happy for the future of our generation.
Speaker 2 (29:04):
That's right. Some good kids right there, feeling good always
here can tell you about something great going on out there.
Let's do it tomorrow six forty five and nine twenty
on Star Mack and Schmidty in the morning weekday starting
at six am on Star one oh five point seven
