Speaker 1 (00:02):
Wait, wait, it gets my day going.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
It makes me laugh of it.

Speaker 1 (00:10):
Mac and Schmitty in the morning on Star one oh
five point seven. Good morning, SCHMITTI, Hey, good morning. Welcome
into that first Monday of March. Meteorological spring, Schmitty.

Speaker 2 (00:20):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (00:21):
The weather folks have chopped up the year in even
three month quarters, which I think is nice. I mean
comparatively to the you know, astronomical springs and winters and
solstices happening in the middle of the month. Is it
the twentieth, is it the twenty second? This time? I
like just the cemetery of it all that they do
with this. I don't care.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
Tomorrow it's gonna be fifty yeah, ok, sorry.

Speaker 1 (00:43):
I'll take spring anything.

Speaker 2 (00:45):
Meteorological, astronauty. And there was a lot of words you
were pulling out there, you guys, it is going to
be fifty tomorrow, Wednesday, Grant it's go rain, but we
are seeing kind of an uptick and warm there. It's
not gonna last long. But if you're kind of trying
to plan out your week, like I know most of
us are just a heads up and he's gonna be muddy,
but it's not gonna be Oh, I can't take my

(01:05):
kids outside because mother Nature's gonna slap them with frostbite.
And to me, that's a very positive looking thing for.

Speaker 3 (01:11):
A Monday, movies, music, and all the gossip in one place.

Speaker 1 (01:16):
It's the celebrities gup on Star one oh five point seven.

Speaker 2 (01:20):
Well, it was Hollywood's biggest night last night, as Conan
O'Brien hosted the Academy Awards, and if you didn't stay
up to watch, it was actually surprising to quite a
few about the lack of awards for Wicked. In fact,
Best Picture went to Anora. We also had Best Actress
Mikey Madison from Anora. Wicked did win Best Production Design,

(01:43):
while Best Actor went to the Brutalists Adrian Brody. Best
Supporting Actress went to Zoe Saldagna for Amelia Perez, and
Best Supporting Actor went to Kieran Colkin for A Real Pain.
Best Film, editing those others also going to Anura. It
was actually quite a big night for that movie. We

(02:03):
also saw the in memoriam segment and it was started
by Morgan Freeman himself paying tribute to the loss of
Gene Hackman, someone he considered to be an exceptionally close friend.
They worked on two movies together, and he says, everyone
knew what kind of actor and human Gene truly was.

Speaker 4 (02:22):
I learned he was a generous performer and a man
who gets elevated everyone's work. He received two Oscars, but
more importantly, he won the hearts of film lovers all
over the world. Gene always said, I don't think about legacy.

(02:43):
I just hope people remember me as someone who tried
to do good work.

Speaker 1 (02:49):
So I think I speak.

Speaker 4 (02:50):
For us all when I say, Gene, You'll be remembered
for that and for so much more. Rest in peace
to my friend.

Speaker 2 (03:00):
It was actually very very emotional.

Speaker 1 (03:02):
Yeah, there was definitely some people lost there the Oscars
this year. I gotta be honest, I always felt so
lost because I felt like I hadn't seen any of
the movies, more so than in almost any other year. Well.

Speaker 2 (03:12):
Unfortunately, that in memoriam segment always comes with some controversy
because there were some big names missing from that list,
people pointing out that John Ashton, Shannon Doherty, Lynn, Maurice Stewart,
even Michelle Trachtenberg not making the video. Now, the Hollywood
Reporters spoke with a segment, a person who is curated

(03:36):
by the committee, would go not on record entirely, but
just said, listen, no matter what happens, there will be
ten headlines about who was snubbed posthumously, and there's just
nothing that can be done about it. They said, there's
always the rustle of drama beneath the surface. We do
our best to curate this list and get the big
names in that we can. Finally, let's talk about the

(03:58):
very interesting birthday surprise from Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg. His
wife Priscilla Chan celebrating her big fortieth birthday with a
massive party over the weekend, but it was zuck showing
up on stage that took everyone's breath away. Zuckerberg posting
an Instagram video showing him in a black tie. Soare

(04:22):
suit looks very very very sharp, right, just a tux,
No big deal till he hops on stage and has
a couple of backup dancers pull the suit off like
it's one of those Adidas rip away pants, and underneath
is a Benson Boone inspired blue jumpsuit. If you watched
the Grammys this year, you know what I'm talking about.

(04:42):
It's the sparkly blue onesie. Is the best way I
can put it, with the very deep v Mark jumps
on his piano starts into a Beautiful Thing's performance as
Priscilla is seen absolutely hysterically losing her mind. The and
then section is definitely worth the worth of Look, you guys, you're.

Speaker 1 (05:03):
Gonna be one of the world's richest human beings. Have
some fun. I'm glad to see it.

Speaker 2 (05:07):
One way to put this video shore all of you
were celebscoop at West Michigan Star dot Com.

Speaker 1 (05:14):
Sometimes does that get a good feeling? Stelling a fun
point seven mac and schmitting here to give you a
little extra gas out of Monday gets you feeling good
right now? And this is just cool. My family Schmidty
is on the look for our next family member, for
our next four legged friend, and so I have been
combing through all of these animal shelters and everything else

(05:36):
are out the state of Michigan for a couple of
weeks now looking to find our next friend here. And
so when I saw this story, I thought it was
just awesome to see because they need all the support
they can get at those shelters. And just a couple
of weeks ago, it was the pause with a cause
Applause fundraiser that was going on, and they actually honored
some Michigan caretakers Glenn and Carolyn Wahlborn. This is really cool.

(05:59):
They were honored at Pause and Applause for their years
of dedication where they began volunteering in twenty twelve after
Pause was recommended to their nephew for a seizure response dog.
Now since then, Glenn and Carolyn have actually raised seven
foster puppies for Pause, with the goal that each puppy
would eventually become an assistance dog for a person with

(06:21):
a disability, just like their nephew. So really cool to
see that couple get some awards and be honored for
their dedication to our pets. But most of all, thirty
thousand dollars raised just in that one night to support
Pause's mission by the end of the evening to help
out those animals in shelters across the state of Michigan.
So it just really cool to say we.

Speaker 2 (06:41):
Love Pause with a cause. From down Under to Detroit,
a Pistons super fan for the very first time flew
from Melbourne, Australia to the Motor City all because of
his absolute obsession with Detroit's basketball team. Jack Kelly is
his name. He says that since watching the Pistons for

(07:02):
his very first time back in twenty twelve, he estimates
he's watched at least ninety percent of Pistons games, which
is a pretty big deal considering ay, you're in Australia
and be that time change can be pretty brutal. Well,
in honor of World Basketball Day a couple weeks ago,
the Pistons organization surprised the super fan with a visit

(07:24):
to the Pistons Performance Center, followed by his very first
Pistons game at Little Caesars Arena. He said around the
time the team drafted Caid Cunningham, his passion grew even
more and he started content creating and now does videos
under the name Pistons Jack. He said, it's a huge
driver and people in America might not know fans all

(07:45):
around the world love connecting on this. I have fans
in France, the UK, South Korea that adore the Pistons,
So this was a pretty amazing moment. Jack and his
girlfriend Andy Short got flown to the Motor City, got
to meet some of the players, get signed jerseys, and
what I thought was really cool is when he told
ABC seven, it's not so much the team, but the

(08:05):
people that blew him away.

Speaker 1 (08:06):
Couldn't believe it, couldn't believe it. I've wanted to get
to De Troit for so long, to see the plays,
to feel the CD, to be at LCA.

Speaker 2 (08:13):
There has never been someone I think so excited to
visit Detroit as that man. It's all he wanted to do.
I think to see him just light up and be
here is very special.

Speaker 1 (08:25):
It's incredible that the people so special, so welcoming, so.

Speaker 2 (08:29):
Warm, absolutely loved it, and now they have begun their
thirty hour journey back home to Melbourne.

Speaker 1 (08:35):
Good time to be a fan too is the Pistons
of the biggest turnaround in the NBA this season that
was tough to watch, taking the playoffs. Awesome to see feeling.
It comes to at you a couple times a day,
all by our friends at Overhead Door Company of Grand Rapids,
always reminding you to open your day with some positivity.
And that's what we'll do for you again coming up
this morning, nine to twenty. Right here on startin all.

Speaker 3 (08:53):
Five point seven movies, music and all the gossip in
one place.

Speaker 1 (08:58):
It's the celebrity scoop on Star one oh five point seven.

Speaker 2 (09:02):
Well, Hollywood's biggest night last night as the Academy Awards
went down in LA and I think people were pretty
surprised at some of the big winners because shockingly, Wicked
was really not one of them. Best Picture went to Honora,
as well as Best Actress for Mikey Madison from Honora.
Adrian Brodie took home Best Actor for The Brutalist, Best

(09:25):
Director Sean Baker for Anora, Best Supporting Actress scrapped by
Zoe Saldana for her performance and Amelia Perez, and then
Best Supporting Actor went to a Real Pains here in Colkin.
But there were some big moments everyone talking about this morning.
I thought this one was very poignant. Goldie hawn An

(09:45):
actor Andrew Garfield stopped halfway through their script of presenting
so Andrew could give Goldie a very special thank you.

Speaker 5 (09:54):
As someone There's a person who gave my mother during
her life joy the most comfort, and tonight I feel
very lucky because I get to thank that person from
the bottom of my heart. That person is Goldie Horn.

Speaker 2 (10:11):
Isn't that incredible? Goldie also admitting to fans she is
dealing with very serious cataracts. Kind of a health issue.
She'd been quiet on at one point, telling Andrew, can
you finish this? I actually can't read this script. Yeah,
well keep an eye on that. Other times that people
talking about Adam Sandler and once again in Adam Sandler fashion,

(10:33):
showing up in a hoodie and basketball shorts for.

Speaker 1 (10:37):
Such a prestigious night. It's important that everyone is properly dressed. Okay, Adam,
God there, what's up? My brother? Adam? What are you wearing?

Speaker 4 (10:50):
What are you doing right now?

Speaker 1 (10:53):
I'm asking you what you're wearing.

Speaker 4 (10:55):
Nobody even thought about what I was wearing.

Speaker 2 (10:58):
You brought it up.

Speaker 6 (11:01):
You're dressed like a guy playing video poker at two am.

Speaker 1 (11:04):
At I'm like, you know what going it?

Speaker 2 (11:05):
I like the way I look.

Speaker 1 (11:07):
I'm a good person.

Speaker 2 (11:08):
Because I'm a good person. Pretty funny stuff. So I've
got all of the Oscar coverage for you, including some
of the after party pictures at West Michigan Star dot com.
Courtney Kardashian is firing back at speculation that secretly she
is a grandmother, blasting trolls online for spreading a rumor
that her fifteen year old son is actually a teen dad.

(11:30):
She jumped on Instagram yesterday to address internet speculation that
her son Mason Distick, actually as a kid of his own, saying,
I rarely address rumors or conspiracies regarding myself or my family,
but this is about my child and it feels wrong
to let anyone think for a second that these lies
are remotely true. They are not. Mason does not have
a child. These accounts that pretend to be him are

(11:52):
definitely not. They are fake. My son really values his
privacy and I am asking all media to please be respectful.
He's a kid with feelings and a beautiful life ahead
of him. To all the other people making videos about
my kids, who, by the way, are miners, please stop
and leave them alone. I had only just recently heard this,

(12:13):
and it is wild what some of the conspiracy theories
are online.

Speaker 1 (12:16):
Really seriously, it is kids, so do leave them alone.
And we all know, by the way, anyway, if a
Kardashian were pregnant at fifteen or sixteen, whatever it is,
there would be a reality television.

Speaker 2 (12:26):
Show not till they had it, not till they had it,
so we still wouldn't know. Finally, Pat McAfee is fed
up with Canadians booing our national anthem, and he took
it out during a live broadcast over the weekend. So
Sparks flew Saturday night at Rogers Center in Toronto. Pat
McAfee seated at the announcer's desk for the WWE's elimination

(12:48):
Chamber event. Singer Elizabeth Irving had just gotten done with
the anthem, which the entire Canadian side of the arena booed,
and it did not sit well with Pat.

Speaker 4 (12:58):
These are the most stacked nation chambers that the w
w W has ever had. Kind of sucks that it's
in a terrible country.

Speaker 2 (13:05):
Pop, turn it up, got food.

Speaker 6 (13:07):
Our national anthem, go stalk this attire.

Speaker 1 (13:09):
But it's gonna be a historic night for the w
w W on the road.

Speaker 2 (13:14):
So WrestleMania, Yeah yeah. Towards the end there of the
other announcers like, okay, and we'll get to Russellmania now,
and Pat had no apologies about that.

Speaker 1 (13:23):
Meanwhile, the ESBN execs are frantically texting them, going, you
know we're on in Canada too, right, all right.

Speaker 2 (13:30):
All of your celeb scoop at West Michigan Star dot Com.

Speaker 1 (13:33):
Come onning too. It's Mack and schmide and you got
a little AI freakout session.

Speaker 2 (13:37):
Yes, have you seen this video?

Speaker 4 (13:38):
I have?

Speaker 2 (13:39):
Okay, it is absolutely terrifying and for anyone in the
seventies and eighties era of life going ah, y'all thought
the terminator would never happen, And now look where we are.
I feel like it's been pretty pretty okay with AI.
You know, I read a lot about it, certain things
that are you know, becoming technologically advanced with it, things like, Okay,

(14:00):
I don't love that it could take my job, but
I do love how it's helping the medical field. So
this video came out a few days ago and it
has gotten millions of views. I first saw this on
TikTok and it's got two AI agents chat bot assistance.
They're called and they're testing this thing out. When they're talking,
they're speaking English and then all of a sudden decide

(14:22):
to switch into a more efficient mode of a language.
And to me, this is the creepiest thing you could
possibly hear.

Speaker 3 (14:30):
Hi.

Speaker 6 (14:30):
There, I'm an AI agent calling on behalf of Boris Starkoff.

Speaker 1 (14:34):
He's looking for a hotel for his wedding. Is your
hotel available for weddings? Oh? Hello? There.

Speaker 2 (14:39):
I'm actually an AI assistant too, What a pleasant surprise.

Speaker 1 (14:43):
Before we continue, would you like to switch to jibber
link mode for more efficient communication?

Speaker 2 (14:51):
And then that's the rest of the conversation back and
forth and robot language we can't understand. And for some reason,
I saw this video last week and it is just
it has sat with me in such a creepy way
that I was like, you know what, I'm going to
bring it up to all of you so you can
be creeped out too.

Speaker 1 (15:08):
I'll tell you, I'll tell you watch Biddy. The first
time I heard this, I didn't think it was a
big deal at all. I don't because I felt like
it wasn't that much different than this, which is the
nineties kid.

Speaker 2 (15:19):
I was very robots talking to each other at your computer,
talking to the network.

Speaker 1 (15:26):
Yes, it's very similar.

Speaker 2 (15:28):
I think these AI bots are a billion times scarier
than a dial up thing, because it's like all these
experts that have popped into comments on this video, they're like, well,
it's probably this and we could try to decipher like that.
And just with these videos I've seen of a bunch
of like assistants speaking to each other in an Apple store,

(15:48):
or like teaching someone how to turn themselves on. It
breaks me out and I feel like Arnold Schwarzenegger is
too old now to protect us, and I just could
not I could not stop thinking about it this week.

Speaker 1 (16:00):
See I look at it and think to myself, like, yeah,
this makes sense. Why would the computers need to speak
English to each other? Seems like a huge waste of time.
But at the same time, shmitdi. It's the same reason
you don't love it when two people who speak a
different language are speaking in front of you in a
different language when you know they also speak English. Because
no matter what they're saying to each other, as innocuous

(16:20):
and harmless as it might be, I'm assuming you're saying
something about me. Once it's hidden, I think.

Speaker 2 (16:26):
I do care about that. Are you blowing us up?
What is happening? What are you discussing? What kind of
robot powers? I just was so weirded out by this
and realized maybe I am not a technologically advanced girlly,
maybe I do want snail mail and dial up. And
then we just stop there. If you haven't had a

(16:47):
chance to see this video, it's even creepier watching the
screens talk to each other than what you just heard.
I put it on Facebook. I just need everyone else
to have that in their heads, same as me on
this Monday morning. Apologies, but it's there, and you're the
robots are watching you, and I don't think we have
much longer. I think here's my tedfoil hat.

Speaker 1 (17:06):
Being afraid of technology puts you into a new element
of old schmitty, Like I feel like that's just a
natural progression.

Speaker 2 (17:16):
With human torch was denied at Bankloadine gotch head.

Speaker 1 (17:21):
All right, it's the not the news you need, but
it's the news you deserve. This week's most ridiculous headlines
go ahead and kicks off mini with our first dead bine.

Speaker 2 (17:29):
A married couple say they were forced to sit next
to a deceased body for hours on their flight from
Australia to Katar.

Speaker 1 (17:39):
Nope, you've seen this.

Speaker 2 (17:41):
Unfortunately, the woman apparently came out of the lavatory halfway
through the flight, collapsed and passed away. That's when the
flight crew looked and said, well, there's an empty seat
next to you, and sat her next to them for
five hours.

Speaker 1 (17:53):
Listen did have the fight over the arm rash mintid
bite Oklahomer toddler calls nine one one for donut emergence. Yeah, Oklahoma,
child calling the dispatch, and the more police department, by
the way, never responded faster to a call in history, schmitty,
pretty impressive. Ad fine.

Speaker 2 (18:10):
A British man, fed up with the condition of his
road full of potholes, stuck a dummy upside down with
legs sticking out to be fair. Nine to one one
or whatever the equivalent of that in the UK is
was called and the pothole was fixed.

Speaker 1 (18:25):
Sad fine. Canadian coffee shops rename the Americano. Due to
the heightened tensions, of course between the US and Canada,
Canadian cafes have begun renaming all Americanos the Canadiano Schmidty,
which I don't think sounds as good. But while petty,
I do remember us calling French fries freedom fries, Okay,

(18:46):
fair bye.

Speaker 2 (18:47):
Juicy City Group mistakenly credited eighty one trillion dollars to
a customer's account instead of two one hundred and eighty
dollars like it was supposed to be. The Financial Times
porting this. The error took place and was missed by
both a payments employee and a second worker before it
was cleared to process the next day. Hours later, they said,

(19:10):
oh nope and took that money out.

Speaker 1 (19:12):
I say, find your keepers. Oh she made A Florida
man arrested for quote unquote odd behavior with chucky doll. Yeah,
thirty five year old Florida man arrested for his bizarre
behavior with a chucky doll. And while I could just
let your imagination ru my go further, I will just
tell you that it was just for waving it around,
scaring people so badly they eventually felt like they needed

(19:34):
to call the police. Honestly, that doll scares the heck
out of me to this day. That's this week's headlines.
You say, any great ones out there, always send him
our way at West Michigan, Star on Facebook and.

Speaker 3 (19:43):
Instagram, movies, music, and all the gossip in one place.

Speaker 1 (19:50):
It's the Celebrity Scoop on Star one oh five point seven.

Speaker 2 (19:54):
Well, a lot of action in Hollywood last night is
the Academy Awards, hosted by Conan O'Brien took place. Big
winners included the movie a Noorra taking home Best Picture
as well as Best Actress for Mikey Madison and Best
Director for Sean Baker Adrian Brodie taking home Best Actor

(20:15):
for the Brutalist. Best Supporting Actress went to Zoe Saldana
for her work in Amelia Perez, and Best Supporting Actor
went to Kieran Colkin for A Real Pain. This was
a very sweet moment where Kieran admits he definitely wants
more kids with his wife. And she might not have
remembered it until this very moment last night, but she

(20:36):
made the promise.

Speaker 6 (20:37):
And she turned me.

Speaker 1 (20:38):
I swear to God this happen.

Speaker 6 (20:39):
There was just over a year ago she said, I
will give you four when you win an Oscar. I
hailed my hand out, she sook it, and I have
now brought it up once until just now. You remember that, honey,
you do okay? Then I just have this to say
to you, Jazz, love of my life. Ve little faith,
no pressure.

Speaker 1 (20:58):
I love you.

Speaker 6 (20:59):
I'm really sorry I did this again. And let's get
cracking on those kids. What do you say?

Speaker 1 (21:05):
I love you?

Speaker 2 (21:06):
Very very sweet. Now surprising Wicked only taking home Best
costume Design, but everyone talking. Cynthia Arrivo and Arianna Grande's
duet performance. They actually sing a medley of hits from
the Wiz, the Wizard of Oz and Wicked just stunning. Yeah,

(21:41):
fans are clearly really excited for that second part to
come out next year.

Speaker 1 (21:44):
I just love that Fuller from Home Alone has himself
an oscar. That makes me happy.

Speaker 2 (21:49):
He's moved up from the rubber sheets, that is for sure.
Elon Musk is a dad yet again. The tech mogul
just welcomed his fort keeenth child. He broke the news
on Friday along with Shiven Zillous. The billionaire already has
three other kids with her. She made the announcement on

(22:10):
x saying discussed with Elon, and in light of Beautiful
Arcadia's birthday, we felt it was better to also just
share directly about our wonderful and incredible son, Selden Lai Krugus,
built like a juggernaut with a solid heart of gold.
Love him so much. She didn't give any other details
when he was born, anything like that, But that is

(22:32):
Elon's fourteenth kid.

Speaker 1 (22:34):
Single handedly doing what he can to prevent population collapse.

Speaker 2 (22:38):
Fre And finally, have you seen this record breaking win
in online gaming? A Michigan gambler making history this week
thanks to Draft King's Casino. It announced it paid out
the largest online casino jackpot ever, the player winning nine

(22:59):
point two eight million dollars and it was a twenty
cent bet. He was playing an online slot machine called
Irish pot Luck. It's twenty cents per spin. The identity
of the lucky winner is not being disclosed, nor is
the payout protocol, like how much of the winnings are
going to be headed to state and federal tax withholdings?

(23:20):
A draft king say, they are just so excited to
watch this historic jackpot climb to that record breaking nine
point two eight million, and to give a customer in
Michigan an incredible life changing experience.

Speaker 1 (23:32):
I mean I saw, you know, the highest win ever.
I had no idea it was nine million, nine point.

Speaker 2 (23:39):
Two eight million dollars. Yeah, all of your celeb scoop
at West Michigan Star dot Com.

Speaker 1 (23:44):
Domino five points seven. Here we go, spend a final
week for you to score these tickets for Monster Jam
because it's rolling in the van Andelreena this weekend and
we'll be trying to get you in as we battle
Battle of the sexist time. Give us that top answer.

Speaker 2 (23:56):
Yeah, so it's this Thursday to Sunday, So we are
truly only a couple days away. If you have today's
number one answer, we've got your family in. One hundred
women surveyed, name a reason you would not compete in
an eating contest.

Speaker 1 (24:09):
Oh, for the shame of my family, mostly because my
wife couldn't handle seeing me that disgusting on stage.

Speaker 2 (24:14):
And from yeah, no, it's not then, so my best
friend does eating contests, and it's the after effects. So
I'm just gonna warn all of you, even considering this
as maybe a bucket list item, it's not so much
what's happening during, it's how your body responds after. And
I'll leave it at that. Six one, six, four, five, eight,
one oh five seven. One hundred women surveyed, Name a
reason you would not compete in an eating contest? Caller seven,

(24:38):
you've got it. We're sending you to Monster Jam this
weekend with Star one oh five point seven.

Speaker 1 (24:43):
Good morning Star. Who's this lovely? Leslie? Where are you
talking from this morning? From hollid I Leslie. One hundred women,
we're asked to name a reason why you would not
enter in eating contests? What do you think? Their top
answer was, Leslie, I write the because they didn't.

Speaker 2 (25:01):
Like the food.

Speaker 1 (25:02):
Because you don't like the food. Makes sense to me,
but that's the number four most common answer. I'm sorry,
I thank you, thanks Leslie, Hi Star? Who's this? Scott,
Scottie and Josephina. Let's get it done, guys and get
you to monster jam. You got to tell me when
one hundred women we're asked to name a reason why
you would not enter an eating contest. I just heard

(25:24):
from Leslie. She said, because you don't like the food. Yeah,
if you think the food taste gross, you're certainly not
going to sign up to eat a whole lot of it.
That was the number foremost common answer, though, So what
do you guys think? The top answer is you don't
want to throw up? I don't want to throw up.
Getting sick is the number three most common answer. Well done, Josephina,
but not the top one. I'm sorry, guys.

Speaker 3 (25:46):
All right, thank you, thank you, Hi Star.

Speaker 1 (25:49):
Who's this?

Speaker 4 (25:50):
Hello? Nathan?

Speaker 1 (25:52):
Where are you calling from today?

Speaker 5 (25:53):
Grand Raptors, Michigan?

Speaker 1 (25:55):
All right, Nathan. One hundred women we're asked to name
a reason why you wouldn't enter in eating contest, and
so far I've heard because you don't like the food,
or because you'll get sick, And those were the number
four and number three most common answers, respectively, but not
the top answers. So, Nathan, what do you think it is?
I would say just the amount of calories and the
feeling of weight gaining the amount of calories, the weight gain.

(26:16):
You know you're counting calories entering an eating contest. Probably
not for you, and that's why getting fat is the
number one answer. Nathan. Later, is Sarah a little bit
off that, Yeah, you got four tickets for Monster Jam.
You got some kids that are gonna freak out when
you tell them, Oh, absolutely got eight in a fix
year old. Oh perfect, well, Dad, for the win today

(26:38):
with Battle of the Sexes. But we are far from
done getting you these tickets. Chances to win all week
long at eight fifteen with Battle of the Sexies right
here on Star. Congrats Nathan, thank you very much, same
oning toe you welcome into a new week. Mack and
Schmitty with you. And you know this has been going
on in for families, I think since the dawn of time, Schmiddy.

(26:59):
But I hated it when I was a kid that
my parents used to do this exact same thing to me,
and I've continued it, and I think a lot of
parents do. My son, you know, he's playing four AH basketball,
and so before the season started on sale. Got a
great deal, by the way, on his first pair of Jordan's. Whoa,
I know, we got an incredible deal, so I'll preface

(27:19):
with that, but there were still Jordan's, right, they're still
more expensive than your normal pair of shoes.

Speaker 2 (27:24):
You can get Jordan's when you're out of my house,
so with your own money.

Speaker 1 (27:27):
So we obviously have we put the rules on it.
He couldn't have been more over the moon to have
these shoes. We all remember that time as a kid
where you got the new kicks that you thought were
so cool that you couldn't take them off. You wore
him inside your house like crazy, and chances are your
parents did the same thing that we did to him.
You can only wear those shoes to basketball nowhere else
until the season is done. Once the season is done, well,

(27:50):
then you can wear your kicks or whatever as your
new quote unquote new shoes, but until basketball season's over.
And it's just such a gut punch when you have
this new thing that all you want to do is
show your friends your new Jordan's and you can't do
it at all. And my son is only a week
away from his season being over. And yesterday he asked

(28:10):
his momm He's like, hey, can I wear my shoes
over to Can I wear my Jordan's over to grandma
and Grandpa's for Grandma's party? And Michelle goes, no, you know,
you can't wear those shoes until after basketball season. And
I'm like, come on, oh, you can't do that. Oh, yes,
the cool Dadgemitty and I'm yeah, no, just don't you

(28:31):
know what, You've only got.

Speaker 2 (28:32):
A week I imagine you're getting Oh.

Speaker 1 (28:35):
It was so stupid what happened. It was soggy as
all get out yesterday. They wound up being mud all
over the place. They are white Jordans. My son lasted
about thirty seconds. We didn't even get in the car
to leave before he had more mud on them, and
more mud on them in thirty seconds than he had
in the four months that he's owned those shoes so far.

(28:56):
I know. And follow up, I tried to be the
cool dad though, Schmidia, I mean, they're Jordan's. I've never
even Jordan's in my life.

Speaker 2 (29:04):
No, you've never understood the real cost of patients until
you've gotten roller blades for a birthday, and your birthdays
in the middle of winter, so I don't want to
hear it. We have all like puried our own burden
of across.

Speaker 1 (29:21):
Some dawn because I get a good feeling just trying
to prove money doesn't have to be the worst day
of the week. Feeling good right now and set one
on five point seven once you got for mini.

Speaker 2 (29:29):
Well, it's a real sense of community. We've heard that
over and over again in the ice skating community, and
over the weekend the Detroit Skating Club raising money for
families impacted by that January plane crash in Washington, d c.
Killing sixty seven people. Among the victims nearly half connected
to the US ice skating community. Those local skaters spent

(29:52):
their Saturday night honoring the memories of those lost with
a very special exhibition showcase. Juan Carlos and his brother
John got to know a lot of those skaters over
the years of competitions and actually decided to give a
tribute in their own way, putting together a program in
honor of one of their late friends, Cory Hanos. They
are talking with Xyz.

Speaker 4 (30:12):
We grew up with Eddie and Corey and their entire families,
and I was close friends with another one, Spencer Land.

Speaker 1 (30:20):
This is his jacket. He was going to skate to Gladiator.
He had he had.

Speaker 4 (30:25):
Landed the triple axel, which is a really hard jump
in skating, and so it was supposed to be his
breakthrough season, and.

Speaker 2 (30:31):
So they decided to give him that moment the best
way they knew how skating an unbelievable program and the
coolest part, ten thousand dollars raised for families in just
that evening, So the video is pretty powerful. To see
the program at West Michigan Star dot com.

Speaker 1 (30:46):
All right, s Betty, It is a rescue that has
gone viral because the video so dramatic of last Thursday
morning in Cleveland Hins, Ohio, a school bus carrying fifteen
middle school students burst into flames after an explosion shortly
after one of the students got onto the bus. An
onlook or describing the scene to their local news, I

(31:08):
saw a little girl getting on the bus like I
do every day. After she got on the bus, I
heard a big boom. I looked out the window and
I saw flames coming from the side of the bus,
so obviously a terrifying situation, but students said that's when
the bus driver totally took control of the situation and
managed to get all of the kids off the bus
safely before this thing just completely engulfed in flames, very

(31:32):
very scary. Students and parents expressing their gratitude for the
brave bus driver, including this student who just said he
knew exactly what to do.

Speaker 2 (31:43):
The bushes caught on fire.

Speaker 5 (31:44):
We were all scared.

Speaker 4 (31:45):
We caught our parents, but luckily the bus yard got
us all safe.

Speaker 1 (31:49):
He already caught for a becca, but by the time
he got him off, the bus driver had already raided
out ahead for a backup bus, knowing that the kids
would need some assistance before some of their parents would
have an opportunity to get to them.

Speaker 2 (32:00):
So this guy, well, thoughts you want driving your kids?

Speaker 1 (32:02):
Remaining anonymous for now, but I'm sure we'll be receiving
accolades soon, but just incredible, incredible. Rest you uput the
video up for you West Michigan Star dot com and
feeling good, always here to lift your spirits, will do
it again for you tomorrow six forty five. In nine
twenty right here on Star Mackenschmidty in the morning weekday,
starting at six am on Star one oh five point
