Speaker 1 (00:10):
Mac and Schmitty in the Morning on Star one oh
five point seven. Good morning, Smitty, Good morning. Welcome into
your Thursday, Welcome into your mak It's here. Mayday is
upon this and it's a wet one to start it
out right, and you know, on par for springtime. But yeah,
showers especially this morning throughout the day cross West Michigan.
Temperatures out there in the upper forties. We'll see the
(00:30):
mid sixties today. But yeah, those showers, you're gonna bring
some winds, some possible thunderstorms with it too, So you
are friends from storm to make it'll be busy today.
Speaker 4 (00:37):
Yeah, I mean, if you're south of US and a
little to the east, you're dealing with some storms right now.
I was looking at that radar, I'm like, oooh, sleeping, skip, work,
are going after.
Speaker 5 (00:46):
Lunch, movies, music, and all the gossip in one place.
Speaker 1 (00:51):
It's the celebrity Scoop on Star one oh five point seven.
Speaker 2 (00:55):
Well, it is a.
Speaker 4 (00:56):
Very sad update to the story that I had yesterday.
Jeff Spurbeck, John Elway's longtime agent, business partner and best friend,
has passed.
Speaker 2 (01:06):
Away at only eight sixty two.
Speaker 4 (01:09):
So this is because of this golf car crash we've
been talking about. John and Jeff, along with several family members,
were now learning we're leaving a stage coach party over
the weekend when spurback fell off of the golf car
that was actually driven by the NFL legend Elway, smacking
his head on the ground. He did suffer a traumatic
brain injury. We heard yesterday that he was on life support. Unfortunately,
(01:33):
the family has confirmed his passing, Jeff's wife Corey saying
we're deeply saddened to share that he has passed a
wonderful father, husband, brother son, and friend to many. He
will be profoundly missed. Sources say Elway has been absolutely
crushed by this. He did release a statement, I am
absolutely devastated and heartbroken by the passing of my close
(01:56):
friend Jeff. There are no words to truly express the
profound sadness I feel with the sudden loss of someone
who has meant so much to me, leaving behind his wife,
three kids.
Speaker 2 (02:09):
I mean only sixty two.
Speaker 1 (02:11):
I mean to think of being with your you know,
some of your best friends together and you're having a
good time on the golf course and you're I mean,
unfortunately screwing around, because that's what you do on a
golf course, like you have a million times at a
terrible assa.
Speaker 2 (02:23):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (02:23):
Police are investigating. There's no official word on exactly what
went down.
Speaker 1 (02:27):
He was on the back of a golf cart.
Speaker 4 (02:29):
Let's talk about Selena Gomez giving us a few of
those wedding plans and although it's not maybe super traditional,
her change is a really sweet one. So she joined
the Table Manners podcast. Of course, her and fiance Benny
Blanco have been planning a wedding for the past few months.
Now check it out.
Speaker 5 (02:48):
I don't think we're looking at having one of those
because they're a little be shy.
Speaker 2 (02:53):
I feel embarrassed.
Speaker 5 (02:56):
I will have a special dance with my papa, who
he's my grandfather. Yes, it's my grandfather and he's my
mom's father, and he never got a chance to walk
my mom down the aisle because good for my mom,
she decided to go to Vegas and be like oooh,
and she's still been with them ever since they were
(03:16):
like twenty six, so it's very cute that they did that.
But I wanted to give him an opportunity to I lovely.
Speaker 4 (03:25):
Yeah, so she's not going to have a first dance
with Benny, but she is going to have a traditional
dance with her pop up. She also revealed they are
going to be keeping things very traditional when it comes
to Benny's Jewish roots. But we don't have a date
of course. The couple getting engaged back in December of last.
Speaker 1 (03:43):
Year with a megapop start like that at a music
producer in Bennie Blanco, I want to know what the
wedding playlist.
Speaker 4 (03:48):
Is, like, I want to know who the DJ is.
Oh yeah, get about the playlist, but who are you hiring. Finally,
rapper and artist Meg the Stallion with a brand new
business venture. Sorry to make you so hungry this early
in the morning. She's partnering with Popeyes.
Speaker 2 (04:03):
That's right.
Speaker 4 (04:03):
She loves their chickens so much. She is opening her
very own restaurant, making the announcement to fans yesterday, developing
a very different kind of Popeyes location in Miami.
Speaker 2 (04:15):
She was super stoked.
Speaker 6 (04:17):
Okay, so today we are visiting map Papa's book Moore opens.
Speaker 1 (04:22):
It's just bones, but in a few months it'll be chickens.
Speaker 4 (04:27):
It'll go perfect. Since Meghan debuted her Hotti sauce to
the Popeyes condiment line back in twenty twenty one.
Speaker 1 (04:35):
Can they just call it the Popeyes? I mean, I
feel like she's got to take ownership.
Speaker 2 (04:39):
Maybe all of your celeb scoop at West Michigan Star dot.
Speaker 1 (04:41):
Com on a fun point seven it's Mack and Schmitty.
Look at it gets you feeling good right now, and
it made for a pretty interesting day at work, I'm
sure for the Kent County folks at Safekem Disposal site,
because you know, we're doing our spring cleaning and they
would really prefer if you've got some two hundred year explosives, Yeah,
maybe just call the police. But that's what happened last Wednesday.
(05:01):
Is over there at the Wealthy Street location in Grand Rapids,
at the Safekeem Disposal site, someone brought in a cannon
ball from the Civil War era. Matt McPherson, who's the
marketing communications director there for the Kent County Department of
Public Works. Just talking about how it all went down
with thirteen on your side.
Speaker 7 (05:20):
Definitely peaked most people's interest in the office. I would
say everyone wanted to see it. And then at that point,
it was kind of like, yeah, okay, let's get this
out of here and figure out what to do next.
Once police arrived and confirmed that it was possibly explosive,
that's when they evacuated the building.
Speaker 1 (05:38):
Yeah, I said. The cannonball brought in by a person
who had found it in a field after owning it
for more than a decade. They just simply wanted to
get rid of it, so they brought it there to
the chemical that the safekeem disposal site. Not what they do.
But the police weren't able to take care of it.
They're still running tests to see if this thing is
still explosive and a danger. I guess I learned something
(05:59):
about cannonballs on this. In my head, Schmidy. When you
think of a cannonball, does it explode afterwards or is
it just a big ball of metal that goes through
things shot really fast and they get explodes? I see,
I never do that.
Speaker 4 (06:09):
I just assume anything that was ever used in any
kind of fighting explodes.
Speaker 1 (06:15):
They say they more deal with like you know, spray
paints and varnish. They're not much you know, disposing of explosives.
They say, definitely called it.
Speaker 2 (06:22):
I just like the Michigan. Part of this.
Speaker 4 (06:24):
Hey, everybody, take a look, touch it, play around with it.
Then we'll call the police and see if it's deadly.
Let's go to the east side of the state. I
love this story. Corwell Health Troy Hospital is where Ray
Junior has been spending his time. He is fighting one
of the toughest health battles of his life. Ray is
now fifty three, but he lives with cerebral palsy and autism.
(06:45):
He does have the mental age of about six, which
is why one of his most favorite things to do
is hang out with a local group called down River Rocks.
They go out and they hunt for rocks, and then
they paint the rocks. It is something that has brought
Ray so much joy, and now that he's landed in
the hospital trying to keep oxygen levels up and his
(07:05):
family is concerned about what the future looks like, it's
that same group that has stepped up to support in
a really cool way. Downriver Rocks have actually created what
they're calling a rock train outside of Ray's hospital room.
So far, it has almost a hundred differently painted rocks,
all leading to the entrance. His mom, who shows up
(07:29):
every day for a visit, makes sure to take pictures
show Ray. It absolutely delights him and it's something that
means so much to the family.
Speaker 1 (07:37):
These rocks back here.
Speaker 2 (07:40):
Every day I come up and I look at him.
Speaker 4 (07:42):
I go up there every day and I take a
picture before I go up and I show him the rocks.
Speaker 2 (07:47):
He's so excited. ABC seven.
Speaker 4 (07:49):
By the way, he says, you are totally welcome to
add a painted rock to the train if you want
a road trip right outside of Detroit.
Speaker 2 (07:55):
It's a really cool symbol of support. I've got the
video for you. At West mishae can start dot.
Speaker 5 (08:00):
Com, movies, music and all the gossip in one place.
Speaker 1 (08:04):
It's the celebritiescoop on Star one oh five point seven.
Speaker 4 (08:08):
Okay, I'm gonna start by saying this is a spoiler alert.
I repeat, a massive spoiler alert if you have not
yet watched last night's episode of The Masked Singer, I'm
about to unmask Lucky Duck because this may have been
one of the biggest surprise twists we've ever seen in
any season of the show. Remember, one of the Masked
(08:30):
Singer judges is Rita Aura, and guests who that annoying duck?
Her words not mine turned out to be Hiat and
I'll have to go.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
First of all, Oscar kil my god, the comedia and
husband God, Oh my god?
Speaker 2 (08:58):
Are you kidding?
Speaker 8 (08:58):
Me?
Speaker 1 (09:00):
Kidding? I? Hey, you come greet your husband? O. Way,
here we go.
Speaker 4 (09:08):
I thought you were the most annoying thing on this
whole show. Yes, how he kept this a secret from
his wife is beyond me. But you heard Nick Cannon,
that was absolutely legendary.
Speaker 2 (09:24):
Director psycho on tt.
Speaker 4 (09:26):
Yes, rito Ara's hubby underneath that duck costume.
Speaker 2 (09:30):
Can you imagine?
Speaker 1 (09:31):
I find it impressive if she really had no idea.
That's a difficult thing to keep away from your wife
without her even smelling it on a TV show. It's hard,
all right.
Speaker 4 (09:40):
So this is an update. Remember the Shador Sanders story.
He was prank called during the NFL Draft last weekend
by we found out to be the Atlanta Falcons defensive
coordinator's son, Jacks. Well, the NFL has just dropped the punishment,
not only finding the Falcons two hundred and fifty thousand dollars,
(10:03):
but Jeff Olbrick, the defensive coordinator, an additional one hundred
thousand dollars for failing to prevent the disclosure of confidential information,
something he apologized for yesterday during a press conference.
Speaker 1 (10:17):
First of all, I.
Speaker 8 (10:18):
Like to publicly apologize to Shuder and Sanders family for
a Kurt. Second of all, I want to publicly apologize
to mister Blank, Terry Fattenham, Free Morris, the entire Falcons organization.
My actions, my actions have not protecting confidential data were inexcusable.
(10:39):
My son's actions were absolutely inexcusable, and for that we
are both deeply sorry.
Speaker 4 (10:45):
I'm just stay here still wondering, like, how bad did
your son get punished for this? Hundred thousand dollars and
then two hundred and fifty for the team.
Speaker 1 (10:55):
I mean, I will say, wow, at least he stepped
right up and jumped right in front of it and said, look,
I know my son did it. Maybe I didn't know
anything about it. These are my actions. I was careless
with this data, you know. I think that's something you
got to take from it.
Speaker 4 (11:08):
All right, So how about this, Ben Affleck is saying, honestly,
maybe possibly this could have been a better day than
my kids being born, the chance to run routes on
the field with Tom Brady, the accountant two star joined
the Chasin and Travis Kelcey on their New Heights podcast
to talk about a moment that is going to live
with him forever. I reach out and I have to
(11:33):
go on extend.
Speaker 2 (11:34):
I catch it, like I wondered.
Speaker 1 (11:44):
It was incredible. I call every word I knew. For
two days I was on the list.
Speaker 8 (11:52):
I think they thought I was lying to them, so
they got But it was like the nicest.
Speaker 1 (11:55):
Thing anyone's ever done for me.
Speaker 2 (11:57):
And I lived a full life of.
Speaker 1 (11:58):
Dreams, right, and that whatever was hour of playing catch.
Speaker 2 (12:03):
Just an hour of playing catch.
Speaker 4 (12:04):
By the way, I will clarify it quote to this day,
aside from the birth of my children, that was the
greatest day of my life.
Speaker 1 (12:11):
I mean, there's no bigger dream for a Boston guy
than playing catch with Tom Brady.
Speaker 2 (12:16):
All right, all of your Celebscoop at West Michigan Star dot.
Speaker 1 (12:18):
Com, good morning to you. It's smacking schmitty and you
just said May Sember SCHMITTI just tell me, are we
playing Christmas music or not?
Speaker 5 (12:25):
No?
Speaker 2 (12:26):
Oh gosh, I just check it, y'all. I can't. I'm
so sorry. I'll go have to take a break.
Speaker 4 (12:30):
If we suddenly get frosty going, you still got a
few months. Okay, no, I'm talking May Somber, because how
many of you with kids especially suddenly realize starting today
you have an entire month dedicated to a different activity,
theme or outfit for each day of school for your kids.
(12:52):
Because I talked a little bit about it yesterday and
the amount of people that commented to me and said,
oh my gosh, it's begun for us as well, if
you follow the Holderness family, very cute. They actually just
posted a video about this.
Speaker 2 (13:06):
Hey Frank, welcome to Macember.
Speaker 1 (13:08):
It's from all the craziness of December without all the
fun cookies and twink light you remember the time.
Speaker 2 (13:19):
It's really cute, right.
Speaker 4 (13:20):
You are making sure you have all of the homework done,
the projects done, the library books figured out, but you
also get to dress your kid up in tide I day,
or you get to bring in your favorite board game,
or it's Show and Tell, but only from something you
bought in.
Speaker 2 (13:35):
A super rare area. It is absolute madness.
Speaker 4 (13:39):
And it's my first year dealing with this, and don't
get me wrong, it is so cute. And I know
that our teachers go above and beyond to figure out
ways to have so much fun. But last night I
was at Meyer purchasing an outfit for my son so
he could dress like a principle.
Speaker 2 (13:55):
Today I was also on the hunt.
Speaker 4 (13:57):
In the playroom for all the pieces is of a
board game, because it was bring a board game to
school day. Next week we have tide I Day for
one of the days we have show and Tell Stuffy Day.
Not to be confused with show and tell something that
you like about a trip you went on day, I
mean it's it does. It feels like you're getting ready
(14:19):
for Christmas. It feels like the stress and craziness of
December heading into Christmas break. But like they said, with
none of like the cookies and snow and magic, it's
just stress.
Speaker 1 (14:30):
Well and multiple sports for a ton of kids. I
will say there is a silver lining. I'm gonna say
there's a lot of there's a lot of stress right there.
There's a lot of anxiety. If there is a silver
lining to it, Thoshmitty. At least we're doing all of
these things in springtime weather where it's light outside until
like eight o'clock or later, and not in the gloom
of December when it's dark at.
Speaker 4 (14:51):
Five thirty, So it doesn't matter that it's going to
rain for the next like seven days.
Speaker 2 (14:56):
Why are you so blast?
Speaker 4 (14:58):
Greatest message it's from Gracie yesterday because I posted this
awesome tweet from someone that said a reminder, it's no
sugary snacks, no twinkle lights pace thyself for Acember. Gracie
goes hours started yesterday. It was a Loha day, anything
you'd wear to the beach, but it was also like
(15:18):
thirty degrees this morning, so my daughter went in a
Hawaiian style dress with leggings, a long sleeve and a
winter jacket.
Speaker 2 (15:26):
Good times. Tomorrow's bubblegum day. I love it.
Speaker 4 (15:30):
I love you teachers with every fiber of my being.
I just feel like the worst possible Pinterest mom that
cannot keep up with everything.
Speaker 1 (15:39):
I feel like every parent's just rooting for Pajama Day. Shmitby,
just give me pajama.
Speaker 2 (15:43):
Give me that every Friday the rest of the year.
Speaker 1 (15:46):
All right? Uh May somber. The video's up right now
online on Facebook and Instagram. A's West Michigan stock It's
the Celebritiescoop on Star one oh five point seven.
Speaker 4 (15:57):
Singer Chapel Roane slamming the reality series The Voice on NBC,
saying it is one of the scariest things she's ever done,
so check this out. She auditioned for The Voice back
when she was fifteen. She's in the new cover interview
for w magazine, tells the mag I sing Stay by Rihanna.
That was when the Bruno Mars song when I Was
(16:18):
Your Man was really big, and so I figured I'd
be super unique in switching it around singing when you
Were My Man. By the way, when I did the
Voice audition, the producer or whoever the bleep was watching
didn't even look up from his phone. He was like, Okay,
next chapel, remembering she went up there, She's sang fully
(16:38):
a cappella. It was the scariest thing ever, and nobody
gave her any real attention. She also shared The Voice
was not the only reality competition that she tried out for.
When she was thirteen, her parents traveled with her to
Austin to audition for With to audition for America's Got Talent,
She actually sing a Cyndi Lauper song. She said, I
(16:58):
didn't make it there either. Trust me, these people trying
their hardest. This is absolutely terrifying, and no one.
Speaker 1 (17:06):
Is kind well, if it makes you feel any better
at all, not a single single artist has come out
of the voice and done anything with their careers, So
I think Chapel's okay.
Speaker 4 (17:15):
Bill Belichick is now defending girlfriend Jordan Hudson after that
very awkward CBS interview. I had the story earlier this week.
Belichick sat down for a CBS Morning's piece. He's claiming
this is CBS's fault. He only agreed to take the
interview under the premise questions would solely pertain to the
(17:36):
contents of his new book He's been promoting the Art
of Winning Lessons from My Life in Football. Belichick says
once he got across from the journalist, he was very
surprised that he was asked numerous times about subjects that
had absolutely nothing to do with the book. Belichick stating
that he told CBS producers over and over again, I'd
prefer to keep the conversation centered on the book, and
(17:59):
it was you who only interjected after so many refusals
to honor his requests. Well, CBS is calling BS, saying
in a statement yesterday, there were no preconditions or limitations.
This was confirmed repeatedly with his publisher before the interview
took place. Everything you saw in that video is exactly
(18:22):
how it went down.
Speaker 1 (18:24):
Well, you know what, then, maybe your publisher should have
been the one that was there telling the people at
the news like, hey, he's not here to talk about that.
Not your girl.
Speaker 2 (18:32):
Here's the problem.
Speaker 4 (18:33):
She's kind of that's mess, he admits, Like they have
a personal and professional relationship.
Speaker 2 (18:37):
She is kind of his publicist right now.
Speaker 1 (18:39):
That smart coach.
Speaker 4 (18:40):
And if you've been seeing this one hundred men versus
one gorilla conversation online, let me break it down for you.
It is the latest tweet to kind of go viral
across TikTok. Somebody had asked, my husband says one hundred
men could easily defeat a gorilla by all piling on
top of it and smothering it. When I pointed out
(19:01):
it would probably lead to a number of human casualties
under the crush pile, he just said, bees do it.
Speaker 2 (19:08):
Somehow this picked.
Speaker 4 (19:09):
Up a ton of steam, and now the internet is
in this battle over whether or not one hundred men
could actually defeat a wild gorilla. It took a whole
new level when mister Beast actually tweeted, I need one
hundred men to test this out any volunteers, and then
billionaire Tesla CEO Elon Musk replied, sure, what's the worst
(19:32):
that could happen? The debate has been ongoing all week.
I think I am ready to settle all of the questions.
Michelle Rodriguez is a primatologist and conservation scientist, and she says, yes,
under normal circumstances, a gorilla would not survive against one
hundred men.
Speaker 1 (19:52):
You know what, There you go. I heard her thing
and she's like, they could strategize and go back and forth.
All I know is if one hundred dudes are in
a gym and have no idea what's going on, just
send in a giant silverback gorilla. I don't know. I
might put my I'm not doing anything.
Speaker 4 (20:06):
All of your celeb scoop at West Michigan Star dot com.
Speaker 1 (20:11):
Seven to five points seven. It's Mack and Schmidty. Let's
get into Battle of the Sexes and try and get
you to our Grand Rapids Griffins fighting for a Calder
Cup in the playoffs game two Monday night, A van
Andelerina talk.
Speaker 2 (20:22):
About a battle.
Speaker 4 (20:23):
We are coming back from losing that first game, but
we got all the confidence in our griffins.
Speaker 2 (20:27):
Today's battle question.
Speaker 4 (20:28):
One hundred men surveyed name something people do in the shower?
Speaker 2 (20:34):
Remember, kids are listening.
Speaker 1 (20:35):
I was gonna say, TMI, I think is what we
might hear. But you know what, this is definitely not
on the list because maybe I'm just a freakup who
brushes his teeth at the shower. Yeah, every morning I
brush my teeth in there.
Speaker 2 (20:45):
That is honestly one of the top five weirdest things
I've ever heard.
Speaker 1 (20:48):
Yeah, what's the waters coming down?
Speaker 4 (20:50):
I think the fact that it's not on the list
at all says everything we need to know.
Speaker 2 (20:54):
All right? Six one, six, four, five eight, what oh?
Speaker 1 (20:57):
Five?
Speaker 4 (20:57):
Seven collars seven? One hundred men served name something people
do in the shower?
Speaker 1 (21:03):
Good morning star?
Speaker 4 (21:03):
Who's it?
Speaker 1 (21:04):
Shanda? Shanda? Where you calling from tonight? All right, Shanda.
One hundred guys were asked to name something people do
in the shower. What do you think? Their top answer
was singing? Singing in the shower? You know, I would
have assumed that people would have done what you normally
do in the shower, you know, bane yourself. I'm hoping
that you guys are washing in there and not just
(21:26):
having karaoke nights, it would be a good thing. But
singing to the top answers, Shanda, congratulations. Thank you by
the way, because Shmitty called me out, Am I weird
for brushing my teeth in the shower in the morning. Exactly.
That's like it's a timesaver. That's a life hack. I'm
telling you people. If you don't do that, you're missing out.
It was singing, followed by bathing, then shampoo and shaving,
(21:50):
rounding out the top four answers today. Well done. You're
going to see our Grand Rapids Griffins and playoff action
Shonda awesome. Heck yes, Game two Monday night there at
Van Angelreena and we are hoping to get you in
as well as we'll battle again tomorrow for tickets eight
fifteen here on Star one on five points. Let's talk
dogs here, Smitty, because it's my dog Ace's fifth birthday today.
Speaker 2 (22:14):
Oh, happy birthday.
Speaker 1 (22:16):
He's a good boy. May day. And you know what,
we have talked about this a little bit, but we
are very much thinking of a friend for him. My
previous dog, Lily that we had with him together, she
passed away at fourteen years old, just a couple of
years ago. So it's been a couple of years and
we're just we feel like we're ready to be back
into that two dog household like you are. Yeah, you've
(22:36):
got Beula and Toby at home, right, Yeah? What kind
of dogs? Are they?
Speaker 4 (22:41):
Mots? They're little MutS. They're eight and a half to
ten pounds each.
Speaker 1 (22:44):
Hey, and they're small dogs. When you adopted them, were
you looking for a breed of any particular kind? Are
you just looking for that dog that felt right?
Speaker 4 (22:52):
We were looking for a smaller breed because we weren't
supposed to have dogs.
Speaker 2 (22:55):
Where we lived. Now that I don't live there, I
can admit.
Speaker 1 (22:59):
That well played, Well played, because this is what I
wanted to ask about. Do you feel loyalty to certain
breeds when you go looking for your next dog? Because
I grew up with different dogs. I had a black Lab,
I had a Golden Retriever. I had a Cocker Spaniel
at one point in time, my siblings had head other animals,
and then I got my dog, Lily as the first
dog my wife and I had ever got together, a
(23:20):
first animal together, and she was half Border Collie, half
Australian cattle dog. Ace is half Border Collie, and I
don't ever want to stray from at least some Border
Collie mix ever again in my life.
Speaker 2 (23:33):
Good for you, because that is a high energy dogs.
Speaker 1 (23:35):
The high energy dog, which I like because it gets
me out of the house. But more so than that,
it's because they're so smart. Like I don't know if
I just got lucky, but these two dogs, the only
thing holding them back was how dumb their owner was, Like,
they just do everything you tell it. It'll My dog
Ace will walk right next to me with no leshan
anywhere I go. He will sit and stay and not
move a muscle like he just does what I tell him.
(23:56):
And I don't think that other dogs do that. My
gold Retriever loved him to death, nothing but pure love.
Dumb as rocks. That's just the way that it is.
Speaker 4 (24:04):
I think it's nostalgia for me. We had a black
lab chow mix. I would love that. I love our dogs,
but if I have to be totally honest, I don't
think i'd have a loyalty. I would just I'd walk
into the Humane Society right see.
Speaker 1 (24:17):
And that's you know, that's where my kids are at.
But they're at it because they just want to go
now like they don't care what the dog is. They
just want a dog today.
Speaker 2 (24:25):
As long as the dogs get along. We did that
whole thing.
Speaker 1 (24:27):
Yeah, of course you gotta get red and all that
kind of stuff going in on there. And meanwhile, I'm
over here because I'm I'm with you, Smitty. I want
to go adopt, but I want to wait for that
right circumstance when that Border Collie mix or whatever happens
to walk their way into a humane society and is
looking for that forever home.
Speaker 2 (24:42):
What if it could be a few years.
Speaker 1 (24:44):
Years, years. Wow, I won't be beaten down, I'm sure
by my children long before that. But I just didn't
want to wind up with like a border Collie Chihuahua
or something like that, Schmitty, because.
Speaker 2 (24:54):
No teaches the chua want to be a big dog.
Speaker 1 (24:57):
Do you have loyalty when it comes to breathe or
could you? We just care less like Smiddie and it's
just that dog that steals your heart. We got this
going on Facebook and Instagram at West Michigan Star. Let's
jump on to a great start for the day, feeling
good right now and starting on five Foyd seven, what's
up schmidde.
Speaker 4 (25:11):
Well, this was such a cool move by Michigan State
University celebrating their senior class, the graduating class of twenty
twenty five. Graduation commencements begin tomorrow for the Spartans, and
they decided to take Beaumont Tower, that iconic clock tower
on the East Landsing campus, and play Taylor Swift's Long Live.
(25:44):
Wouldn't that be such a treat to hear? Posting the
video to Facebook, MS, you said we have had the
time of our lives being Spartans with you. In the comments,
they asked what else they could play at Beaumont Tower
to celebrate the class. People get suggestions like My Way
by Frank Sinatra, Green Day, Time of your Life. I
(26:05):
know that was a lot of people sing your song
Imagine by John Lennon, but by far my favorite because
I get this all too well, Sarah Lamey, I want
to be sedated by the remote.
Speaker 1 (26:17):
That'd be interesting to hear on bells. I don't know
i'd pull it off.
Speaker 4 (26:20):
Oh good, And I'm not sure who the organist is.
I was trying to look for the name, but he
did a phenomenal job.
Speaker 2 (26:26):
The video is so cool.
Speaker 4 (26:27):
West Michigan star dot com and congrats, congrats to those spartans.
Speaker 1 (26:31):
Chbittie. When you were in elementary school, did you ever
have a class project where you got to witness the
circle of life firsthand?
Speaker 2 (26:38):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (26:39):
In fourth grade, I remember raising baby chicks. Oh yeah, yeah,
I'm there eggs and then you got to you.
Speaker 2 (26:44):
Know, my daughter's doing that right now.
Speaker 1 (26:46):
Awesome, and she's preschool too. That's really cool for them.
And this is awesome coming out of Pop Paul were
they're sixth grade science class yesterday yesterday was releasing one
hundred and fifty shun uck salmon king into the Pawpaul River.
Like this is pretty neat. They do this project thanks
to the Department of Natural Resources, who gave them one
(27:08):
hundred and fifty salmon eggs to these sixth graders who
literally got to watch them from the time they were eggs,
which is what basically cave are, until they were big
enough to be released into the wild. Liam Paisig talking
to thirteen on your side about the project, What are
those sixth graders?
Speaker 3 (27:23):
We got to see them start from like eggs and
then like we saw them start from fry then like
to like the juvenile sort of stay and then we're
probably gonna get more next year.
Speaker 1 (27:34):
Yeah, a lot of lessons in here because chinook salmon
or king salmon, they're not native to Michigan. They were
actually brought here in the sixties to fight an invasive species,
the outwives. And which is kind of interesting because next
year they're actually going to be talking about some of
those invasive species that come into the Great Lakes. And
you know, in a classroom like that, what a cool
(27:54):
project that is to actually watch it all happen right
in front of you. Science teacher Kevin Owls talking about
how this circle of Life is a great project showing
these kids the importance of our wildlife and natural resources.
Speaker 6 (28:07):
We let them go into the Papa River, hoping that
they imprint, they survive, then go out to Lake Michigan,
and about three years come back and hopefully spawn or
reproduce and push up the population in the river so
they are more salmon.
Speaker 1 (28:25):
There you go, who you never know, Schmidy, Maybe they
go from a sixth grade classroom in pop on to
the end of your fishing line or your husband's.
Speaker 4 (28:31):
Going to say all about the chinook salmon. So very
very well versed in.
Speaker 1 (28:34):
That feeling good. Kevin at you a couple times today.
I always want to tell you about something cool going
on out there. We'll do it again tomorrow, six forty
five and nine twenty on Star Mack and Schmidty in
the morning weekdays, starting at six am on Star one
oh five point seven
