Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good morning guys at Schmidty, and typically getting pulled over
is probably the last thing you'd want, But if you
were in Wayne County yesterday over on the east side
of the state, it was definitely something you would love
because Wayne County Sheriff's Office deputies brought some unexpected holiday
joy to drivers pulling them over, not for a ticket,
(00:21):
but to hand out a two hundred and fifty dollars
Kroger gift card. It's part of their annual Santa Stops program.
This has been going on for three years now, where
the Sheriff's Office, along with Kroger, joins organizations that are
helping to strengthen communities in the Detroit area, so they
pull over people hopefully give them a bit more of
that holiday spirit. Sheriff Rafael Washington says, it's a program
(00:45):
he adores.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
We're going to a two hundred and fifty dollars gift
card from quote. We're going to be out here just
pulling them over, helping them have a very merry Christmas
and hopefully happy New Year. Now.
Speaker 1 (00:56):
Naturally, it was a wide range of reactions. Most of
them started out shocked, with people going what did I do?
I wasn't speeding nothing, and then so much emotion when
they realized what the stop was all about. Channel seven
was there caught a lot of incredible moments in.
Speaker 2 (01:15):
WHOA, I ain't do nothing.
Speaker 1 (01:16):
This is beautiful, man, I needed this.
Speaker 3 (01:18):
I see they must be looking for somebody. It couldn't
it be me, But he said, pull over. I can
get my family a nice Christmas meal. I can get
me a full tank of gas. I'm just really, really,
really grateful and thankful for this.
Speaker 1 (01:31):
I thought I was being pulled over and I never
had a violation.
Speaker 3 (01:34):
So oh, very appreciated. Great time, guess right place. Thank
you guys.
Speaker 2 (01:40):
They have no idea how much this has helping me
right now.
Speaker 1 (01:44):
It's pretty cool that big program that helps out with
this leader's advancing and helping communities. And of course with
the third year now done, they can't wait for next year.
It helps to build those positive relationships between law enforcement
and the commune unity. And what better time than this
holiday season. The video is really really cool. I love
(02:04):
the idea of see into stoves. I've got it up
at West Michigan Star dot com.
