Speaker 1 (00:01):
The news you need to start your day. It's the
West Michigan Wake Up powered by Minards on Star one
oh five point seven. Well, good morning to you. My
name is Adam Morocho in for Schmidty today. She will
be back on Friday. Your West Michigan Wake Up for
this Wednesday, December thirty first, twenty twenty five. Yes, it

(00:21):
is New Year's Eve. The big story in West Michigan.
Most of us under a winter weather advisory until tomorrow
morning at seven am. I know this impacts Kalamba, Zoo County,
Kent County out toward the Lake shore. Again. Most of
West Michigan gonna be dealing with two to four inches
more snow. Slippery road conditions out there. My ride in
up one thirty one wasn't too bad. Our crews are

(00:43):
doing a really good job with the highways, but my
side streets hadn't been plowed at all. A lot of
the back roads are still covered in snow. So if
you do have to go out today, take it easy.
Make sure you're not testing your speed limits today and
watch out for other drivers. Flu cases are on the rise,
the CDC saying that at least seven point five million

(01:03):
flu cases have been confirmed with eighty one thousand hospitalizations,
and this was before Christmas. So if you're starting to
feel a little bit sick, make sure you go to
the doctor, get tested for the flu, get the medicine
that you need. You know, watch out for fever, cough, sore,
throw out, running nose, that kind of a thing. And
they're even saying that there's something called the super flu

(01:24):
this year that is like a subvariant of influenza A.
Obviously I'm not a doctor, but if you're experiencing these symptoms,
please please please stay home, wash your hands, and there
is still time to get the flu vaccine if you
choose to do that. College football fans, Michigan playing today
against Texas. That's number eighteen Michigan versus number thirteen Texas,

(01:47):
three o'clock today in Orlando, Florida for the Cheese Itt
Citrus Bowl. I know I'll be tuning in. My brothers
are huge Michigan fans. And if you are a college
football playoff fan, we've got one of those quarterfinal matchups
to night at the good Year Cotton Bowl, number ten
Miami facing number two Ohio State. Yeah. I'm not a

(02:08):
big fan of Ohio State, So hopefully Miami pulls that
one out, and then, of course I talked about it
during our celebrity scoop. The Times Square ball will actually
drop twice this this year. Tonight, obviously, it'll do its
traditional drop to celebrate the New year right at midnight,
but then it's gonna pop back up. It's gonna change
colors to red, white and blue, and is going to

(02:30):
drop a second time to celebrate America's two hundred and
fiftieth birthday. That celebration will start at twelve oh four am,
and then, believe it or not, it's gonna drop a
third time on July fourth, to celebrate America's declaration of Independence. Hey,
we would love to keep you informed. Listen to our

(02:50):
sister station, would Radio set it as a preset in
the free iHeartRadio app. It's one oh six point nine FM,
thirteen hundred AM.
