Speaker 1 (00:00):
The news you need to start your day. It's the
West Michigan Wake Up, powered by Minards on Star one
oh five point seven. Let's start with lots that happened
over the weekend. The US Department of Agriculture has officially
posted notice saying federal food aid will not go out
starting November first, raising the stakes for families across the

(00:22):
country as the government shutdown drags on. The new notice
comes after the Trump administration said it would not tap
the roughly five billion dollars in contingency funds to keep
benefits through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, also known as SNAP.
That program helps about one in eight Americans by groceries.
The USDA notice says, bottom line, the well has run

(00:45):
dry at this time. There will be no benefits issued
November first. We are approaching an inflection point. Suspects have
been arrested over the theft of Crown jewels from the Louver
Museum in Paris. Two suspects around in connection. A Paris
prosecutor said investigators made the arrests Saturday night, adding one

(01:05):
of the men taken into custody was preparing to leave
the country from the airport headed to Algeria. French media
reported two suspects have been arrested. Paris prosecutor did not
confirm the number of arrests. Also could not say whether
any jewels had been recovered now. According to the AP
to Enter, in their thirties, both were known to police

(01:28):
and taken into custody. One arrested attempting to board that flight,
adding one of the suspects identified through DNA traces. They
said earlier this week, forensic experts were analyzing more than
one hundred and fifty samples from the scene. The suspects
can be held in police custody up to ninety six
hours before needed to be released, so I expect we

(01:48):
will have more information later this morning. The FDA has
given a Class two risk level to New Tragena's makeup
remover Ultrasoft cleansing toilettes. Heads up if you use these
a major recall. The company that produces the wipes discovered
a serious bacteria that's resistant to preservatives found in beauty products.

(02:10):
The company voluntarily recalling more than thirteen hundred cases of
the wipes that were sold in four different states. I've
got all the info at West Michigan Star dot com.
And we are keeping an eye on Hurricane Melissa, now
officially a Category four storm and expected to get stronger
while threatening to cause catastrophic flooding in the Northern Caribbean,

(02:31):
which does include Haiti and Jamaica. Melissa expected to move
near or over Jamaica by early Tuesday than crossed Cuba.
This could be one of the worst storms the island
has seen in decades. Take in a look at your sports.
We've got our first round of playoff action for high
school football. Just to give you a few. In Division one,

(02:52):
we'll have Jennison at Hudsonville and Grandville at Rockford, D
two Muskegan, Mona Shores at Muskegon. We'll also have Portage
Northern at Byron Center, Cedar Springs at East, Grand Rapids,
zealand East at Saint Joe. We've got Holland Christian at Hudsonville,
Unity Christian, Grand Rapids, South Christian at Portland, and many

(03:14):
more of the entire list at West Michigan Star dot Com.
Big night for our Grand Rapids Griffins officially defeating the
Manitoba Moose for nothing over the weekend. That ties their
franchise record with a five and oh start first time
since the two thousand and four two thousand and five season.
Awesome news for the Red Wings as well, defeating Toronto

(03:35):
six to four on Saturday night, and our Pistons taking
home a win yesterday one nineteen to one thirteen over Boston.
This evening, Pistons are back in action. Welcome in Cleveland
to town. You can hear that on Talk twelve thirty
w TKG. If you want the latest news, weather and traffic.
