Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good morning. Thank you for listening to Community Access. It's
my pleasure to have today. Doctor Abbas Mohammadi, President and
founder of Columbia Dental. Good morning, doctor, Good morning Alison.
So you have a free cleaning once again. You're just
so generous different holidays. You'll have free cleanings for people
who don't have insurance who need to come in. Your

(00:22):
next free cleaning is on April sixth.

Speaker 2 (00:24):
Correct April sixth, we start at twelve o'clock until seven.
First come, first serve.

Speaker 1 (00:30):
And what will you do that day?

Speaker 2 (00:32):
We do the provide free cleaning to the patients. Is
be getting our twenty five years anniversity. So in celebration
our twenty five years to be too in business, we
wanted to give back to the community which we own
them because you know, we couldn't be here, we couldn't

(00:54):
be in business for twenty five years. All our success
are we own today the communit.

Speaker 1 (01:01):
Twenty five years. How do you feel about that? Did
it go by fast?

Speaker 2 (01:05):
Well? Feel a little bit all what you mean. But
besides that, yes, it's just like yesterday. I remember when
I started twenty five years ago and I opened my office.
At that time, of course I was by myself. But
I was working seven days away. I've been told by

(01:28):
many people, hey, listen, you're going to burn out and
you're not going to be able to do that. Don't
work seven days away. But I didn't listen to them.
And I still I am here, and I still i'm
I'm on my office every single day paid off. It
pays off, and I enjoyed that.

Speaker 1 (01:47):
It's not amazing how many Columbia dentals are there now.

Speaker 2 (01:50):
For people certain location through the state of Connecticut. We
are from Norwalk to Enfield. We are from New Milford
to Manchester, Connecticut on the eighty four bound.

Speaker 1 (02:04):
The technology and the equipment, all of that must have
changed over two decades.

Speaker 2 (02:10):
Absolutely, a technology, you know, change a lot. We've always
been on the edge of the technology. I was the
first not only dental practice, also medical practice in Connecticut
back in two thousand that I was a chartless I

(02:32):
never had.

Speaker 3 (02:33):
A paper chart.

Speaker 2 (02:34):
You remember, as the older days, you have to go
they looked at the doctor's office, look at the charts,
and they have to have a big inventory, biggest spaces.
I never had a chart. I started digitally and then
the following year I had digital radiographs. I never had

(02:55):
even failm or any processing radio. Everything been digitalized twenty
five years ago, and I tried to be at the
edge of the technology always.

Speaker 1 (03:09):
What makes Columbia Dental unique from everyone else.

Speaker 3 (03:14):
A few things.

Speaker 2 (03:15):
One is convenient and availability. In our Manchester location which
we call it Columbia in Plant Center is we are
open seven days a week.

Speaker 3 (03:27):
We are open laid.

Speaker 2 (03:28):
Hours, so is from that prospective we are unique. I
don't know any other dental practices open seven days a week.
But besides that, we do have in house laboratory. We
have also digital laboratory that allows us to fabricate the

(03:48):
prostices like dangers, crown bridges, all the final products in
the same day. So never our patient they are living
with all any replacement, so for any reason to fall
out or we need to remove it, always be able
to replace those.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
How are you able to do it all on one day?

Speaker 2 (04:11):
Well, because we have the facility, we have the lab
in our permisses, and also we use digital technology.

Speaker 3 (04:22):
We don't take the impression.

Speaker 2 (04:24):
Manually, so you know all the time we had to
take the impression, that impression need to be pulled and
all it takes time Okay, even older time, like even
twenty eighteen and seventeen, when we didn't implement completely digitally,
still we were able to fabricate in the same day

(04:45):
because we did have the lab on permisses. But now
by implementation of the digital technology, we can do it
even faster. So the impression right away we said of
taking impression, we take digital impression or the picture. It
goes to the our software or technician or design, the procetices,

(05:09):
the chrown, it goes to the mealing machine. So everything
it's done more accurately faster that by human intervention. So
as the result, the final product even can be done
in the same day, but even faster, we can sometimes

(05:30):
do it within a couple of hours. We can make
the full prostices within a couple of hours. We call
it the same day, but actually in reality it's only
a few hours.

Speaker 1 (05:42):
Wow, tell me doctor, what isn't all on for procedure.

Speaker 3 (05:47):
Online four is.

Speaker 2 (05:50):
Unfortunately we come cross some of our patients that they
reach too level that dative they need to be removed,
either because it's not practical to save the tief or
the tieve.

Speaker 3 (06:06):
Or in a very bad condition.

Speaker 2 (06:09):
We seen patients that they have let's say twenty five
if needed root cannel, they need the gum treatment, so
it becomes impractical to save the tief those patients, so
obviously they need to remove the tief. Older days, what

(06:30):
we did we offer those patients called the denture, or
we made the immediate denture in our practice. So what
we did basically before we remove the tief, we took
the impression and we make it transitional or immediate dentuer.
The reason we call it immediate because we remove in

(06:50):
the tief and at the same time we insert that
transitional or temporary danger and that patient leave the office
at least with some type of temporary prosthesis until get
the healing after three four months, and then they come
back and before me make them the final dance. However,

(07:13):
these days, we have another alternative to offer or to
our patients that they really they don't want to go
with dangers, and.

Speaker 3 (07:22):
That means we remove the teeth.

Speaker 2 (07:24):
At the same time, we place some implant, maybe four
or five implant in each arch, and the patients walk
out the office with the fixed temporarity. See, so they're
never going to have any experience of having a removable teeth.

Speaker 3 (07:47):
Wow.

Speaker 2 (07:47):
And this is it becomes these modality so to become
more and more popular. Most people they wanted to go
that because people they hate danger people they don't want
to have something removable in.

Speaker 3 (08:03):
Their mouth.

Speaker 2 (08:06):
And it's part of the education. And that's why you know,
I go to radio station. We put advertisement to advertise
this type of product because many people they don't know
there is such an alternative option available for even a

(08:27):
lot of my passions are coming to my practice, I say, hey,
but I can walk with all teeth. I don't like
denther because they don't know there is another alternative. But
even the temporary they look fabulous, They look very good.
Is the only reason we make temporary because it is

(08:50):
still as a healing process. So we make it from
acrylic material which is soft there and they don't put
too much pressure on the healing side. So esthetic is
not a issue or even functionality.

Speaker 3 (09:07):
People they eat food.

Speaker 2 (09:08):
Of course they cannot eat hard food just right after
the surgery. But after a few weeks they able even
you know, eat harder food. So issue is not that
much esthetic and the functionality of this temporary prostesis or

(09:30):
fixed tensire. The issue is we don't want to have
too much pressure on the sides that are healing and
been extracted recently, so that's why we make those temporarily.

Speaker 1 (09:42):
I'm so happy we're talking about this. I know so
many people my age and older who need this. I
got balked in the mouth and my two teeth right,
hair or loose, so I may be coming to see
you again for something like this. Thank you for explaining that. Doctor,
you have a high center.

Speaker 2 (10:00):
What is that hygiene center is? Back in twenty fourteen,
in my Manchester location, I expanded and I had one
cardiologist was selling his practice, I mean not for the practice,
but selling the place, was moving to another location was

(10:24):
next to my location, next condo which is big one.
I got that condo and I converted and at that sort.
Since then, we do have hygienis available seven days a week,
and we have hygienis available until nine pm, so usually

(10:45):
stalled every day until nine am. We have hygienies nine pm.
We also have hygienis on weekends, Saturday, Sundays. So we
know that some people are very busy, they don't have
the time. They might not be on their neighborhood. I understand,

(11:07):
but it still pay many people. They prefer to travel
on weekend or after hours to travel extra you know,
ten mile or fifteen miles to come and get the
cleaning in our Manchester location, in our it Gen Center's rather,
you know, take off from their work and lose time

(11:27):
from their work or other obligations they have during the day.

Speaker 1 (11:31):
That is just wonderful. I'm speaking with doctor Abbas Mohammadi,
President and founder of Columbia Dental. He is doing another
free cleaning on Sunday, April sixth, from noon to seven.
It's at the four to eighty three Middle Turnpike West.
That's the address in Manchester. For you, just go to
Columbia Dental dot com. It's first come, first serve. Thank

(11:53):
you so much for being here today. Congratulations on twenty
five years.

Speaker 3 (11:57):
Thank you so much, Alison, Thank you for having me
