Speaker 1 (00:00):
Thank you for listening to Community Access. I'm Alison Demerz
over the Travelers Championship in Cromwell. Alongside I have Coreyanne Chappello,
she is the CEO Camp Current. How are you good?
How are you I'm doing great? Thank you for people
don't know about Hartford's Camp Current. What's it all about?
Speaker 2 (00:19):
So we are the oldest largest free day camp in
the entire country. This year we are celebrating one hundred
and thirty one years, which is just incredible in itself.
We offer free transportation, two meals a day in over
fifteen different educational programs and activities, so it truly is
a summer of a lifetime and we are so excited
that we offer all of this completely free to our families.
Speaker 1 (00:40):
Would you like to highlight some of the programs and
activities that you have?
Speaker 3 (00:43):
I know you have a ton. We have a ton.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
I mean swimming is always number one, I think in
everyone's book. But we have stem yoga, healthy choices, finance,
it's fun, early learning, coding for computer lab, you name it,
we have it.
Speaker 3 (00:56):
And we just keep growing and growing, which is incredible.
Speaker 1 (00:59):
What's it like Christmas morning? When the kids get on
the bus the first day to go to camp.
Speaker 2 (01:03):
Oh my goodness, it's like nothing you've ever experienced, watching
seven hundred and fifty kids just flowing off of the
buses first thing on Monday morning.
Speaker 3 (01:12):
We do welcome all of the.
Speaker 2 (01:13):
Community out and to join us in that from eight
thirty to nine thirty on Monday and giving high fives.
We have community support that ranges from mascots to police
officers all the way through where everyone is just so
excited to watch these kids get off, and the kids
couldn't be more excited that they're finally back at camp.
Speaker 1 (01:32):
How is someone eligible to attend this camp.
Speaker 2 (01:35):
As long as you are a Harford resident and between
the ages of five to twelve, so not much.
Speaker 1 (01:40):
What kind of positive impact has it had on the
kids and the parents?
Speaker 2 (01:44):
We have generations, I mean, being around for one hundred
and thirty one years, you're bound to have that. But
most of our staff has been a camper, worked their
way through, whether it was being a counselor onto a
unit director or program director and so on and so forth.
But their parents, their grandparents, their aunts or uncles have
all come through camp, so it's a place that they
know and that they trust and it is a giant family.
Speaker 1 (02:08):
So Monday's a big day, very big day. You couldn't
do this without donations, and we're here for Berdies for charity.
For every dollar raised, Webster Bank will donate fifteen cents.
Can people go to your website and donate absolutely?
Speaker 3 (02:24):
Campcurrent dot org.
Speaker 2 (02:25):
We are obviously collecting donations to Birdies through Sunday.
Speaker 3 (02:29):
We're excited, we are well. We were at number two
on the.
Speaker 2 (02:33):
Entire Birdie's list as of yesterday. I don't know if
it's still there, but we are definitely calling out to
all of our supporters to help us get the full match.
I think that this is a great opportunity between not
having any credit card processing fees, which is like unheard
of for organizations, and the fifteen percent on top of it,
it really is just making donations go further.
Speaker 1 (02:53):
Yes, and again it's Camcurrent dot org or go to
Travelers Championship dot com. How else can people help? Can
they sponsor, volunteer.
Speaker 3 (03:01):
Or We're always looking for sponsors.
Speaker 2 (03:02):
I mean, honestly, this wouldn't be possible without donations of
all capacity, whether it's in kind, sponsorship, coming to volunteer.
Speaker 3 (03:09):
We have thirty six acres and.
Speaker 2 (03:11):
Only six full time individuals who help maintain the entire camp.
Speaker 3 (03:14):
So we need help.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
And so anyway you want to come out and support
us or help us, we will be there with open arms.
Speaker 1 (03:20):
Wonderful again. Go to Campcurrent dot org or Travelers Championship
dot com. Please make a donation, don't wait another day.
I'm speaking with Corey and Chappello, CEO of Hartford's Camp Current.
Thank you so much for being here today and for
serving the community.
Speaker 3 (03:35):
Thank you
