murz over at the Travelers Championship in Cromwell. My guest
is Lakeisha Hyatt. She is president of the Rotary Club
of the Middletown Good morning.

It's a beautiful day outside.

Oh my goodness, beautiful, sunny, little warm. But guess what,
it's not raining.

That's right, that's right for you do so many great
things with the Rotary Club. For people who don't know
about it, tell us all about the Rotary Club of Middletown.
Speaker 2 (00:33):
So the Rotary Club of Middletown is the local club
of Rotary connected actually to Rotary International, which is one
point two million members across two hundred countries. The Rotary
Club of Middletown is one club. We focus primarily on service.

Our motto is service above self. Service in the way
of scholarships and grants. We also focus on bringing our
hands to service in the community, whether we are making
sure individuals have their Christmas gifts, or making sure that

individuals have school supplies, or making sure that families have
basic necessities. A partnership with Habitat for humanity building houses.
But we bring our hands as well as our resources,
our dollars, and Rotary really is focused on having individuals,

different businesses in Middletown come together and bring your resources
to make a difference. So we have all businesses at
the table just really bringing our dollars to really impact community.
Speaker 1 (01:51):
Wow, I was just going to ask you, how are
you able to do that? So these are local businesses
who are super generous with their time, yes and money.
Speaker 2 (02:01):
Literally literally, we have nonprofits, we have for profit we
have Liberty. Liberty Bank is actually one of our partners.
There are individuals in healthcare, mental health services, all hospitals.
We bring all of the Middletown businesses that will come.
(02:23):
We're looking for more to come together and just partner
shoulder to shoulder to make a difference.

How can someone get involved with the Rotary Club of Middle.
Speaker 2 (02:33):
Literally literally go to Middletown Rotary dot org and literally
that email will come to me and I will give
you a call and we will get you connected. We
also have lunch the first and third Tuesday of every month,
the first and third Tuesday at at Thori's two at

twelve twelve noon right on Main Street. In hard in Middletown,
Sorry in Middletown. So we're right in Middletown, first and
third Tuesday, twelve noon. I'd love to have you as
my guest and come lock arms with us for service.

What kind of impact have you seen from people who've
benefited from all of these services and programs.
Speaker 2 (03:19):
I so we've given so far, and we're gonna grow
next year. We're given about eleven thousand dollars in scholarships.
Just this year we partnered and with the Beman School
and this one was so wonderful. Beman Middle School in Middletown.
We gave them a five thousand dollive so that these
twenty young men of color, African American men were able

to have mentors, about three to three mentors partner with
them along with amazing black executives from across the state.
Come in mentor them, teach them, show them their value,
and listen to this. I went to the grad situation
and one of the young men said, I feel seen. Hmmm,

that is I feel seen.

So I'm a minister in almost every week and oh
praise God, I love that me too. All I hear
is I feel overlooked. I feel for gotten, all ages
all a he feels.

Seen neel scene and so so this was this We
had a grant. We partner with the Middletown Foundation and
we had a five thousand dollars grant that we could
give to this school for this program and just it's

these are the things making meaningful impact in the community
of Middletown, Middlesex County, as well as our international work
clean Water Internation. But it's about making meaningful observable impact.

So changing lives for the better.
Speaker 2 (05:08):
And you can shifting trajectory. Yes, you sow you shift
literally the trajectory that a person because someone sees it anyway, Oh.
Speaker 1 (05:17):
Yes I could, girl your preach come on, I hear you,
I see you. So we need donations to be able
to do this. And you're involved with Berties for Charity. Yes,
So for every dollar raised, Webster Bank is going to
give fifteen cents and there's no fees included when you donate.
