Good morning, Thank you for listening to Community Access. My
guests this morning are Ella Parillos, she is Miss Connecticut
Teen Volunteer and Yokira's Castillo, she is Miss Connecticut Volunteer.
Good morning, ladies, Good morning. Let's start with the Miss
Connecticut Teen Volunteer pageant. Tell me all about it.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
So when I first walked in, I walked in around
nine between nine and nine thirty am for a registration
and everybody was just so sweet right off the bat.
All the girls were very supportive, and it's not like
any other pagetan organization I've ever been introduced to. The
pageant day went very smoothly. We had our interview and
then it was a while until the pageant actually started.
(00:40):
The pageant started at sixth There we had our evening
down talent, fitness, and on stage portions of the pageant,
and I would say it is one of the most
fun experiences I have had, and I've met so many
friends through it and I'm forever grateful for the memories
that I've made.
Speaker 1 (00:57):
You mentioned the phases of competition. What are the percentages?
Does interview way more than let's say swimsuit.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
No, So actually in this pageant. All of the phases
are weighed evenly, so interview is twenty five percent. The
on stage question is not weaited at all.
Speaker 3 (01:14):
It's not judged.
Speaker 2 (01:15):
Evening down of twenty five percent, Fitness is twenty five percent,
and so.
Speaker 1 (01:19):
Is talent fantastic and you won the crown? Yes, what
is next for you?
Speaker 2 (01:25):
So I'll be training for Miss teen Volunteer America. But
I will be training for that, so I'll be looking
to pick a song for my talent. I will be
learning how to walk better for my evening down and
fitness and being able to respond better an interview.
Speaker 1 (01:41):
What was your song that you sang at this pageant?
Speaker 2 (01:45):
I sang if I Loved You from the muschool Carousel Beautiful.
Speaker 1 (01:49):
When does the national pageant happen.
Speaker 2 (01:52):
I'm not sure the exact date, but I know it
is in the month of March.
Speaker 1 (01:55):
And we're also speaking with you Kiris Castillo. She is
Miss Connecticut Volunteer, which is a different age range. What
are the ages of the women that you competed with?
Speaker 3 (02:04):
So the ages go from nineteen to twenty six.
Speaker 1 (02:08):
And tell me about your experience with it.
Speaker 3 (02:11):
My experience was actually so fun. I had a great time.
Throughout the whole pageant, my favorite part was interview. I
feel like I really wanted the judges in that room
by just telling them my personal stories and how ambitious
I am to be in this role.
Speaker 1 (02:26):
And did you have to do talent? Also?
Speaker 3 (02:29):
Yes, I did swimwear, I did talent, and then on
stage question and evening.
Speaker 1 (02:35):
Gown and what was your talent?
Speaker 3 (02:38):
My talent was dancing. I danced marangue and I've been
dancing merengue in my whole life, so it was just
like so energizing to see everybody just clap and move
along with me in the crowd.
Speaker 1 (02:49):
Did you both have to pick a platform or a
cause to begin?
Speaker 3 (02:53):
They tell us you could just start looking around for
once you win, you really want to have it. But
with me and Ella, we already had our PLATF, so
it was just like a smooth transition for us. We
didn't have to do much.
Speaker 1 (03:04):
And what were your platforms or what is so for
my service initiative, it's youth and me and I focus
a lot on youth empowerment, so.
Speaker 3 (03:12):
I like to host workshops for SAP preps, emotional wellbeing
workshops and work with the youth around a.
Speaker 2 (03:20):
Lot, and so my innefitive is called panting feeds, growing passions.
I inform the youth upon the importance of agriculture and
how it affects their day to day livelihoods, and I
go around to schools libraries do a short presentation on it.
I also work at a farm right now and I'm
a farm counselor educating the youth we have there upon that,
and I'm also able to give back to my community
(03:42):
through CSA, which is Community Spported Agriculture. Every Tuesday we
package bags that produce like vegetables and fruits, anything you
find on a farm that's left over from our farms
to go to the services to support families and need
so that they can have any tal ed.
Speaker 1 (04:01):
What are both of your ages.
Speaker 3 (04:03):
I'm eighteen and twenty one.
Speaker 1 (04:05):
Why is volunteering so important?
Speaker 2 (04:08):
I think the main care of them is so important
because it gives you a chance to give back to
the community upon doing something you're interested in, especially in
this organization. Empowerment that's one of the five letters in
serve and it just empowers women to give back their
community through doing what they love. And that is what
(04:28):
is so important to me.
Speaker 3 (04:29):
For me, volunteering has always been like a part of
my life. I've done it out of my free time.
I've done it through school, through my own time, through
my dance group. So I just seem the impact that
volunteering has not only on me, but my community as well,
and it's has been so rewarding, and I want to
keep that going, especially here in Connecticut.
Speaker 1 (04:48):
And Yo kairis what is next for you?
Speaker 3 (04:50):
I am going to be competing for Miss Volunteer America
in June. We don't know the exact date yet, so
I'm just prepping doing a lot community service, engaging with everybody,
and making sure that I'm the best that I could
be for the competition.
Speaker 1 (05:06):
If someone would like to get involved with the Miss
Connecticut Volunteer pageant, how could they do that?
Speaker 3 (05:11):
They could go right to the Miss Connecticut Volunteer website
and they could see the competition faces and see what
we're all about, and they could just sign up through there.
Speaker 1 (05:21):
I'm speaking with a Miss Connecticut Teen volunteer, Alla Parillo
and Miss Connecticut Volunteer Yokiris Castillo. Congratulations and I wish
you both the best of luck.
Speaker 3 (05:32):
Thank you so much.
Speaker 1 (05:33):
