Speaker 1 (00:00):
Thank you for listening to Community Access. My guest today
is the Nacho King, Alex Pete Taylor. Hey Alex, how
are you?

Speaker 2 (00:08):
Hey? My friend? How are you?

Speaker 1 (00:09):
I'm doing great. I'm so excited to talk to you.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
National Nacho's Day it's here, this is happening.

Speaker 1 (00:15):
Can we talk about how you became the Nacho King?

Speaker 2 (00:19):
Sure? You know back in the day, a few years back,
I put together some month long nacho showcases here in
Connecticut and I got nicknamed the Nacho King. And from
there I just kept supporting local businesses and putting it
all out there. And I'm working on a cookbook about
nachos now. So I've just kept the brand going.

Speaker 1 (00:42):
And you're a local guy.

Speaker 2 (00:43):
Yeah, Connecticut born and raised all over Hartford, New Britain,
West Harford. I've lived in quite a few spots.

Speaker 1 (00:51):
So you have a new list of the most unique
and creative nachos in every state. I'm a huge foodie
and November sixth is nash Nacho Day. Tell us all
about your list.

Speaker 2 (01:04):
Well, I'll tell you this first because this is so
It's so cool to know twenty one percent of restaurants
in the US offer nachos on their Menus, and the
global nachos market is valued at nearly one point six
billion dollars. Now can you believe that? Wow, nachos are
kind of a big deal.

Speaker 1 (01:23):
Nachos are the bomb.

Speaker 2 (01:24):
Yeah. So this list I put together is available online.
It's a list made for all of the adventurous nacho
lovers out there. It's going to be different because this
is the most unique and creative as opposed to let's say,
the cheesiest or the biggest or the most authentic. These
are some real wow factor nachos.

Speaker 1 (01:45):
Oh my gosh, I'm on the edge of my seat.
I cannot wait to hear about this.

Speaker 2 (01:48):
Do you want to hear a few different states nachos?

Speaker 1 (01:51):
Yes, and then you've got to tell us about Connecticut too,
if we're on the.

Speaker 2 (01:54):
List, of course. Yeah. So let's start off Arizona as
Brussels sprout nachos. Florida has Cuban nachos that use plantain
chips instead of tortilla.

Speaker 1 (02:05):
Okay, let's go back for one second, because already I'm like, Okay,
Brussels sprouts.

Speaker 2 (02:10):
Yeah, so listen. It has street corn, caeso fresno, chili,
pickled onion, roasted garlic beet crema. It also has a
fried egg.

Speaker 1 (02:20):
On Brussels sprouts nachos on.

Speaker 2 (02:22):
A Brussels sprout nacho.

Speaker 1 (02:24):
Oh my gosh.

Speaker 2 (02:26):
In Illinois, we have a pot roast nacho. So you
know they're using cheddar jack, kalapino, sour cream, tomato, scallion,
and their main source of protein is pot roast going
on the nacho.

Speaker 1 (02:38):
Wow, so fun.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
Right In Mississippi, there's crawfish nachos. In South Dakota they
have street corn nachos. And in Washington grab nachos. So
these are some really unique and different toppings that that's
why these places made the list.

Speaker 1 (02:57):
And how did you make the list?

Speaker 2 (02:59):
Well, I hour the Internet. I've researched. I was on Instagram.
I was just searching Facebook pages, you know, looking high
and low, and you know, checking out Reddit. There were
so many you know, it took weeks to put this
list together, but ultimately it is such a resource. So
let's say you're on a road trip traveling across the

(03:22):
United States and you love nachos. This is like a
roadmap for you of all of the different cool places
that are out there.

Speaker 1 (03:31):
What do we have in Connecticut?

Speaker 2 (03:32):
So in Connecticut, there's two. Most places only have one spot,
but Connecticut got to Newport got three. But back to Connecticut,
we have Barracuda with their Yuka nachos, so they're using
fried yuka at the base instead of tortilla chips. And
in also in New Haven, Archie Moores has a buffalo

(03:57):
chicken nacho, so think about that as a topping, and
they serve blue cheese dressing on this side. So you know,
it's just this. I love the adventurous types of nachos
that are kind of like breaking the rules but also
you know, really enticing people to try different things.

Speaker 1 (04:16):
Fantastic. Is there anywhere else like New York or New Jersey,
like around in the Northeast.

Speaker 2 (04:22):
I would say, you know Rhode Island in Newport that's
only like a two hour drive. They have three different
nachos on the list from a place called Diego's that's
in Newport. So I'm going to encourage people. The pictures
are all there of these nachos on online for me
