Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good morning, Thank you for listening to Community Access. I'm
Alison de Murz. My guest this morning is retired NYPD
officer Christa Florio.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
Good morning, Learning Aliston, thanks for having me on.
Speaker 1 (00:11):
You bet he's written a book called called Into Darkness
to New York City first Responders Battle the Supernatural. Tell
me how did you come about writing this book?
Speaker 2 (00:22):
I'll tell you it was a journey, you know, it
was probably it was probably fifteen years in the making,
you know, and it really describes the journey that my wife,
a former FDN y E m T, and myself as
a retired YPD police officer, the journey we took coming
together and how we went from you know, working the
(00:43):
nine one one first responder system and now really being
people calling us spiritual first responders, and you know, and
explaining all the cases and all the supernatural events that
we that we witnessed.
Speaker 1 (00:56):
How'd you get into it?
Speaker 2 (00:57):
Well, it started really back in two thousand and nine.
They were not just you know, people would call us
ghost hunters and things like that. But it's a lot
deeper than that. It really comes from a place of faith.
In two thousand and nine, Harmony and I he got
saved together. You know, we came to faith together at
the same church service actually, which is amazing. And after that,
you know, God called us right into tow mission work
(01:19):
helping the homeless, and we did that for a good
nine years. You know, started out in between my nine
when one falls on the midnights, I would bring them food.
Harmony to make the food, I would give it to
the homeless. We'd give them prepaid cell phones so they
can call us, so they didn't fill alone. And it
really took off. And one day, you know, I remember
sitting in my backyard. It was twenty eighteen now, and
(01:42):
I felt God calling me to something bigger, and you know,
I felt him call me to Africa. Long story short,
I you know, worked this out with my wife. She knew,
you know, if God's telling me to do this, I
gotta go. And I made a couple of phone calls
and next thing I know, I was on a plane
by myself to Rwanda. And while I was there, you know,
(02:03):
helping the children and I was teaching in the school,
I came across a possessed man in like this marketplace
in this village in the mountains. And when I locked
eyes with this man, and I knew he was possessed.
I was also, i should tell you, an FDNY paramedic
before I was a cop, so I have a lot
of medical background, and I knew he wasn't having a seizure.
(02:26):
I knew it wasn't a medical emergency. And when I
locked eyes with this man, I saw this evil behind
his eyes that I only saw two other times working
the midnights, probably fix of seven years earlier. And that
started me on this trajectory into this new field. Let's
see what this battle is exposing, this battle between God
and the devil supernatural way.
Speaker 1 (02:47):
So were you able to cast out the demon of
this possessed person? I'm just curious.
Speaker 2 (02:52):
Well, this is the interesting part. I wasn't involved in
this work yet. It wasn't It wasn't a focus of mine,
you know, I wasn't looking for it. And that's the
one thing about what you know, harmony and I do.
I didn't want to do this. This is wasn't an
interesting topic to me. Obviously, spiritual warfare between you know,
God the devil and how it affects us as believers
(03:13):
as non believers, absolutely, but getting in a tangible, you know,
type of setting, with the devil was not something I
planned on. You know, we were helping the homeless. That
was that was a big ministry we had. We loved it,
and so this was something that God called me into.
So when I had this first experience, I was still
(03:34):
processing what am I seeing? You know, what's going on here?
And even the people who were with me, the CEO
of the school, he knew that this changed me. And
that's where when I came back home and I started
learning everything about this, studying the topics and going deeper
into it. Is where you know, some other events I
guess we could talk about in a few minutes started
(03:55):
to happen to where I was now ready to battle
the devil in this, you know, head to head, face
to face.
Speaker 1 (04:02):
So you became equipped in order to deal with fighting
the enemy.
Speaker 2 (04:06):
Yes, absolutely, and that's a that's a actually touched on
something very important. This isn't something you just jump into.
This is this is a lot more than you know
casting out a demon in the name of Jesus. There
is so much more that we have to understand when
you're stepping in. You know, there's a big difference between
intercessory prayer to God and then confronting a demon, stepping
(04:29):
in that place in authority. You know, it even goes
into Biblical scripture with the seven Sons of Shiva doing
this thinking that they could just do it and they
weren't equipped, and they weren't you know, saved. There's a
whole spiritual aspect to this, and I, you know, I
try to educate people who just want to get involved
in this. To really you have to know what you're
(04:49):
dealing with. You have to know the tactics of the devil,
of demons, their abilities, what they can do, and how
far they can go. You really got to know your scripture.
You got to know really what you're getting yourself into,
because it will change your life and it will change
the life of your family.
Speaker 1 (05:05):
You're a preaching to the choir because I am a minister,
and like you say, because I know the scriptures, because
I know how to battle spiritually, I don't have to
be afraid.
Speaker 2 (05:14):
Absolutely perfect explanation. It comes down to faith. It comes
down to being a child of God and being secure
in God. Reminded me of an example of a case
I had. I was speaking with the woman her daughter
was practicing witchcraft, and she was you know, very concerned obviously,
and she said her pastor told her, you will just
(05:35):
go in go in the room and cast out whatever's
in there in the name of Jesus. So she goes
into the room one night when when her daughter's sleeping,
and she does it, and all of a sudden, she
hears a loud grow around the entire room. Scared of
the death, she's tried it again and it got even
louder and basically chased her out of the room. See,
(05:57):
you don't know when you get involved in this, you
know you have to be prepared, even you know, even
as believers, you know we can be hurt.
Speaker 1 (06:05):
Absolutely.
Speaker 2 (06:06):
You have police officers right who had trained. They go
into work every day, they confront evil. They could confront
these criminals. They can still be hurt. So you know,
you really have to understand at the end of the day,
and this is the truth, it's up to God. God
is control of everything all. You know, you they always say,
(06:26):
you know you, you know you give everything to God
and lead the consequences to him. He'll deal with what's
going to happen. He'll put into play what's supposed to happen.
And that really is the major thing the major takeaway
you have to really come to grips with when you're
getting involved in and this work and really anything in
life that really it's it's God's plan. What was going
(06:47):
to happen, happen, right.
Speaker 1 (06:49):
We have the authority in Jesus's name. However, I went
to Africa too, and I did missions work in the
men's and the women's prisons, the orphanages, the landfilled dump site,
and I taught women during the day, did the crusades
at night, and I saw believers, you know, casting out demons,
et cetera, and bite marks would just appear on their arms.
(07:09):
One woman was levitated, so again you know they had
the authority, but that doesn't mean, like you said, you
can still get her.
Speaker 2 (07:16):
He is the one thing. And actually in the book,
I put this right in the beginning of the book,
and I made this very clear, and this is this
is what I, you know, began to tell people. If
you want to get involved in its work, you have
to understand this is a ministry of evangelism first century.
The casting out of demons, the healings, everything was to
(07:37):
show the show all the people of that time that
Jesus was the messiah and he was bringing in the
good news everything he did. That was one of the
first big things he did that really put him on
the map when he when he cast out that demon
in the synagogue that they said, who is this? You know,
he's he's not teaching from authority, teaching with authority, he's
(07:57):
casting out in authority. And this was the really show
them who he was, that he was the Messiah to come.
So I tell everybody if you go into this ministry,
especially like what my wife and I do. You know,
we go in two by two, you know, and we
go in to these homes where people are suffering, and
that's really our ministry. Many of them, many of them
(08:17):
have unbelieved, you know, they have different views, but we
go in and we, you know, bring the message with it.
And then it's really simple. You know, this is between
God the devil. If you don't give yourself to God,
you have no protection. And many people, I will tell you, you know,
you'll understand this. They drop down and they say what
must I do to be saved? Because they're witnessing the
(08:39):
worst terror attacks than you can ever believe. The stories
would mystify you. And so evangelism is really the core
of even any kind of deliverance, just.
Speaker 1 (08:50):
To get things clear. You both worked and served. However,
now what you're doing is, it's not you're on the
job and then you go into these houses and you're
delivering people while on the job. You are actually doing
this as your ministry.
Speaker 2 (09:04):
Yeah, this is something we do. I began a ministry
called New York Demonic Investigation a couple of years ago
just to make it simple for people to reach us,
and we've been receiving thousands and thousands of calls, honestly,
and that's what we do. Yeah, we do this. This
is something you know, we put together. I have a
whole system of how I do it about with the investigation,
(09:25):
the interviews, and then we go in and decide what
type of blessing we're going to do, if we're going
to do one at all. Because many times it's not demonic,
there is no spiritual aspect to it. Sometimes that's why
you really have to know what you're doing and understand
you have a responsibility to people sometimes to let them
know this may be a medical or a mental health
issue more than something spiritual.
Speaker 1 (09:48):
Very well said, because I remember I saw somebody and
I was like Is that a seizure or are they manifesting?
Are they actually possessed? It's great that you say that.
Are there any kind of cases that you would like
I like to share with people that have been terrifying
her eye opening for you.
Speaker 2 (10:03):
I guess I should start with the major one, and
this is the It was the major feature case of
the book, and it was really as close as you
can get to a textbookcase of, you know, a demonic attack.
It really was the video, audio footage, everything we had
and the way the case developed was amazing. So there
was a woman and a child who moved into a
Connecticut home. She never checked the attic out because it
(10:27):
was a very it was very tough. I saw it.
There's a cutout in the ceiling, very high, and you
had to get a very tall ladder to get in.
So she never went into the attict Not too long after,
she woke up to footsteps in the attic banging, and
she actually took video of it and I got to
see it. It was scary. She called the sisters. They
came over. They went into the attic and they found
(10:48):
demonic markings, the sigils all around the walls, conjuring up
specific demons from history and circles of salt, which is
tools everything you could think of. Now, the woman who
lived there before her was evicted. She was a Satanic witch, obviously,
and so what had started to happen was whatever was
in that house was now targeting the child. So this
(11:11):
specific demon had specific characteristics. I won't say too much,
but I'll give you a little. That mimic a lion,
all right, this is a documented demon in history, and
this child would have no way of knowing me. It
was a four year old started to make lion noises,
and you know, it was baffling the ant. And so
(11:32):
when I went over and we investigated, we looked around.
I asked the child to draw what you know he's seeing,
and it was a picture of a lion. We couldn't
believe it. So we go up into the attic to
do the blessing and we start reciting the Lord's prayer.
As soon as we started that, there was a lion
(11:53):
growl around the entire house up in the attic and
the family, actually one of the sisters was downstairs, I
guess filming on her. I didn't know, and caught it perfectly.
It sounded better than my equipment, and you can hear
it around the whole house. And what happened was every
time I began to read the prayer, I went into
other prayers as well. It would growl. So then I
started reading. You'd understand this point a Greek, the original
(12:16):
language of the New Testament. I learned that years ago,
so I would read in Greek and would still growl.
And it was actually amazing. You know, we couldn't believe
it when we were there. It sounds fun now, but
when we were there, it really wasn't. So we had
to come back about three or four times. Right now, listen,
(12:36):
this is the big part of it, like we talked about.
Because you try to pray it away Cassat and Jesus's name,
that doesn't mean it's going to work. That was again,
that was first century evangelism. Now we're dealing with people.
So think of it this way. If people aren't living
the way maybe they're supposed to be there was supposed
to be living as well, or they're doing something else.
(12:57):
God isn't just going to take care of it and
get rid of it, because you know, he's a caring god,
like a good parent, you know, it takes their kid
to get a shot, right, he gets a shot to
crying thinking that, you know, you're the worst parent in
the world. God does these things. He uses the demonic
at times for our good to bring us closer to Him.
And I've been involved in many cases like that where
I knew, I knew it wasn't going to leave because
(13:18):
people would pull me in and want it done their way,
you know, and sometimes it doesn't work.
Speaker 1 (13:23):
In this situation, though, that was upstairs. What I've seen
in my own experiences when somebody was manifesting, let's say,
or possessed, I noticed that they didn't want to let
go of it. So no matter how much we prayed
or i'd say, say the name of Jesus, if the
person didn't want to let go of the demon or
the demons, it's not going to happen. So but in
(13:45):
this situation in the house, because I just thought it
was something that was happening in the house that there
were demons upstairs, but it was that the people were
also who lived there hanging on to that.
Speaker 2 (13:56):
See, No, not directly they weren't. So going back to
what we were saying, I don't know their spiritual life
I don't know what God knows, so I'm not They
were very They were great people. They still are. They're
friends of ours now, great people. But what I'm saying
is there's so many variables to a case. You got
(14:17):
to look at. Now, you know, did the witch put
a curse on this home, which I believe she did
because she tried to come back two to three times.
They told me to get her stuff and they wouldn't
let her in the house. So now you're dealing with curses.
Curses are a whole different animals, and they're very real.
I mean, you know, we talk about we've blessed people.
There's people will curse people. Yes, now they're powerful, and
(14:39):
you know it's not doesn't mean because we have the authority,
things are going to go in two seconds. Right now.
It did go because when we did it like the
fourth I think it was the third or fourth time,
probably a fourth time. Harmony especially felt like a Russia
of air in its like roses. When I was doing
the prayers, it was that place was on fire and
theces was coming up from the ground. I was choking
(15:02):
And I'm not making it up. I wouldn't do that
because there's no reason to. But this was it was
so intense when we were taking this on. But when
it was finally you know, for freedom to that house,
you could sense it, you could feel it, and it
was amazing, amazing. Case.
Speaker 1 (15:19):
Wow, and this is your ministry, and God bless you
because I know I wouldn't want it for these stories
and more. All you need to do is get the book.
It's called Into Darkness to New York City first Responders
Battle to Supernatural. I mean, holy Cow, I could talk
to you all day long if I cannot wait to
read this book. It's so exciting. Whether someone is a
(15:42):
believer or not a believer, this is so good to read.
Thank you so much for being here today, for serving
God and his people.
Speaker 2 (15:50):
Thanks Alison, it was a great time. Thanks for having
me on
