Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good morning, Thank you for listening to Community Access. My
guests this morning are Chris Conway, President and CEO of
the West Hartford Chamber and Kate COB's, Director of Development
and Programs at the West Hartford Chamber. Good morning, Good morning.
So you have the WEEHA Health and Wellness Fare that's
happening Tuesday, May twentieth from twelve to three. Tell us
(00:21):
all about it.
Speaker 2 (00:22):
Sure, I'll start with a little bit of the history.
This is an event we've been doing for probably on
and off close to a decade, and it's taken on
a couple of different iterations over the years, but the
last five or so we've partnered with our friends at
Blueback Square to do this as an open air community
event right on Isham Road. We close down the street.
Speaker 1 (00:41):
Why did you decide to do it and focus on
health and wellness?
Speaker 2 (00:45):
So the Chamber itself has close to six hundred different
businesses and organizations that are members of the Chamber. About
twenty percent of those members fall into some sort of
a health and wellness type business, whether that's direct, medical, holistic,
mental health, physical, fels fitness, and we want to support
as many of our members as possible but since such
a large proportion of our members fall into that category,
(01:07):
we thought that a health and wellness fair was the
right way to feature so many of our.
Speaker 1 (01:11):
Members and give back to the community as you always do.
Speaker 2 (01:15):
Absolutely, so it's.
Speaker 1 (01:16):
Happening on again Tuesday, May twentieth, from twelve to three.
Rain date would be May twenty. First, you have so
many businesses and organizations that will be there. Do you
want to talk about the types and then the actual
businesses and organizations.
Speaker 3 (01:29):
Absolutely, we have a wide range of health and wellness
providers that are going to be there that day, everything
from traditional medicine to mental health, medspas services. We've got
some reiki artists and massage therapy. We've got acupuncture, We've
got fitness options, really anything that a person might be
interested in learning more about when it comes to taking
(01:49):
care of themselves and providing the best of them they
can be. We currently have forty different businesses already signed
up and there are still a few spots left if
other people want to get.
Speaker 1 (01:59):
In, So how can they reserve a space if they'd
like to?
Speaker 3 (02:03):
If you go to our website wh chamber dot com,
there's some information there. We also have a bit dot
Lee dash Weeha Wellness twenty twenty five will take you
directly to the registration page and are.
Speaker 1 (02:16):
There demonstrations as well that will be going on.
Speaker 3 (02:18):
We haven't yet finalized the schedule, but in the past
we've had fitness classes and yoga and things of that
nature right there in the middle of the road since
that is shut down to car traffic.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
Got copping.
Speaker 3 (02:28):
It's sort of like a reverse massage. Instead of pressing
the pressure in, they use suction to pull the pressure
out and it's just a really unique modality that we
weren't really familiar with before the demonstration.
Speaker 1 (02:39):
Yeah, you just hit the nail right on the head
with that one. Thank you for explaining what it is.
So is there a vendor cost?
Speaker 3 (02:45):
There is a feed to be involved. It's only two
seventy five for non members. We do offer a discount
to chamber members as well, just to reward them for
all of the support that they've already been given into
our community and for the amount of exposure for the
potential to meet with so many any clients. Our community
really is very health focused and we always see a
really big turnout and to be able to interact directly
(03:06):
with the community is just a priceless opportunity.
Speaker 1 (03:10):
Absolutely, is there admission for people to go, No.
Speaker 2 (03:13):
Not at all.
Speaker 3 (03:13):
It is absolutely free for the community to come in
and check out what we.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
Have to offer.
Speaker 1 (03:17):
So what do you hope people take away from this
day after attending that?
Speaker 2 (03:21):
There are many options out there for whatever ails them,
I guess, or if it doesn't ail you, if you're
just looking for maintaining your health, or maybe have a
question you didn't know who to ask or were afraid
to ask, these providers are right there for you to
engage with and ask a question about a type of
fitness class or a procedure even that you may want
(03:42):
to learn more about.
Speaker 1 (03:43):
Yes, there's something for everyone, every walk of life, every age.
How is the partnership with Blueback Square on the ton
of West Hartford, ben with the Chamber and this event
absolutely wonderful.
Speaker 3 (03:52):
We couldn't ask for better partners for an event of
this scale. Blueback has always been wonderful about not only
helping us to market to their tenants and getting their
fitness tenants involved, they're really great about the actual setup
of the event the day of and making sure that
everybody has exactly what they need and the town of
West Hartford is also very generous. In addition to shutting
down the road, they do provide security on site to
(04:15):
make sure that everybody is safe and happy while it's happening.
And they've just been a dream to work with. Any
hiccup that arises, we can iron it rate out.
Speaker 1 (04:23):
I love Blueback Square. Who doesn't love Bluebacks Square? Beautiful space,
it really is.
Speaker 3 (04:28):
I just wanted to mention our platinum sponsor is Live
Well Senior Facility out of Southington. Our Gold sponsor is
Hartford Healthcare. And then of course our media partner is
iHeartMedia helping us get the word out. It's going to
be a great event.
Speaker 1 (04:40):
I can't wait. I'm going to be there and I
just want people to come up to me please, and
we can just go from booth to booth, from reiki
to healthcare, to fitness, you name it. It's going to
be amazing. It's the Weeha Health and Wellness Fare twenty
twenty five. It's Tuesday, May twentieth from twelve to three
and Blue Back Square. The rain date is May twenty first.
It's a free event. If you'd like to be a vendor,
(05:03):
if you'd like to get involved. If you'd like to go,
it's wh chamber dot com. I'm speaking with Chris Conway,
President and CEO of the West Hartford Chamber and Kate Kobes,
director of Development and Programs at the West Hartford Chamber.
Thank you so much for being here, for putting on
this event, and for the continual work that you give
back to the community.
Speaker 3 (05:23):
Thank you, thank you for having us here today.
