He's a legend in the making. You're gonna know about
him if you don't already. Jim Well, Pakia, what's going on,
my friends? How are you good?

Speaker 3 (01:31):
Good?

Speaker 1 (01:31):
Good?

Speaker 3 (01:32):
Doing good?

Speaker 1 (01:32):
Welcome to all right man, Jim Well pakiaw versus Brandon
Lallely ESPN plus five pm Pacific time, the co main
event making his pro debut Saturday night. That's a lot
of pressure, man, pro debut, A lot of pressure and
excitement for anybody. How much more pressure for you when
you have that legendary name behind you.

Speaker 3 (01:54):
Oh man, it's definitely there.

Speaker 4 (01:56):
But you know, I just try to doing that stuff
out as much as I can, and you know, I
have a really good team behind me, and uh yeah,
we're just doing our pace and yeah, we're excited now.

Speaker 2 (02:06):
A lot of times you hear from people who have,
you know, famous parents, they either encourage or discourage. Did
Dad tell you you know you don't want to get
involved in boxing or was he encouraging along the way?

Speaker 4 (02:18):
Oh no, at first see my parents really try to
get me away from boxing, but I still ended up boxing.
So but now that they changed, they support me now fully.
And uh yeah, my dad has been the one giving
me pointers and tips and stuff like that.

Speaker 3 (02:31):
So yeah, it's really cool.

Speaker 1 (02:33):
It's in the blood. What were they trying to get
you to do aside from boxing?

Speaker 4 (02:38):
Basically, you know, just the normal thing, you know, like
stay in school, finish college and all that stuff.

Speaker 3 (02:42):
But yeah, but I can't. I couldn't stay away.

Speaker 1 (02:45):
Man. Were you just kicking so much ass in school
and they're like, all right, do it in the ring now?
Were you getting in fights at the playground? Were you
that kind of kid?

Speaker 4 (02:52):
No, it was more because I got invited to train,
and yeah, most of it was just in the gym, man,
Like I fell in love with the sport I started
and stuff like that, fell in love with it and yeah,
here am you know?

Speaker 2 (03:03):
Interestingly enough, if you're the son of many pakia, are
there kids that want to fuck with you just because
they're like, yo, let me test his skills. He's a pokyo.

Speaker 4 (03:11):
Actually yeah, yeah, you know there'd be people like, oh,
let's let's like spar a little bit, you know, move
around and then yeah, things can get heated, you know times.

Speaker 3 (03:19):
But yeah, I love.

Speaker 2 (03:20):
It watching your mom ringside during one of your dad's
big fights. Yo, she had me panicking. How is mom
watching her son fight? Oh?

Speaker 4 (03:31):
Oh man, she's she gets emotional, you know, like I
think she's only been to like one of my amateur fights.

Speaker 3 (03:36):
And she was Yeah, she was not well watching.

Speaker 1 (03:40):
But you know who gives you more anxiety? Her or
your dad?

Speaker 4 (03:45):
Uh No, My dad's actually on the commerce side. You know,
it's just my mom all the time. He's really concerned.
You know, I was making sure like oh did you
do this?

Speaker 3 (03:52):
Did you do that? Like oh what if this happens
and stuff like that.

Speaker 4 (03:55):
But yeah, but for the most part, my dad's just
you know, quiet, and he gives me tips and stuff
on what to do.

Speaker 1 (04:01):
Yeah, now we're gonna talk about the fight and everything.
But speaking of your dad growing up, I mean he's
many pac man pakia, he's your father. How intimidating was
he when it came to reprimanding you?

Speaker 4 (04:14):
Actually, he's actually a really like chilled at you know. Yeah,
if we got in trouble, it was mostly my mom
doing all the talking and stuff like that.

Speaker 3 (04:23):
But uh yeah, he's he's actually a really chill, chill dat.

Speaker 1 (04:26):
Now. We've seen, you know, with famous dads in boxing,
we've seen it work as a disadvantage sometimes because you
grow up and and you're not really fighting out of
poverty or fighting at you know, for your life essentially,
like like Julio say Sar Chavez Junior, how does it
work as an advantage to you?

Speaker 3 (04:44):
Uh? Well, you know, it's it's it's nice to have
like somebody.

Speaker 4 (04:48):
Like my dad who's there because the reason why he's
like supportive now is because he sees me you don't
working all the time, always going to the gym, and
uh yeah, I guess it's a it's a good thing
that he's there because he is a legend and you know,
I could learn a lot from him.

Speaker 3 (05:03):
He's there to guide me and stuff like that.

Speaker 1 (05:04):
So it keeps you on your toes essentially.

Speaker 2 (05:07):
Yes, yes, and Freddy Roach of course, Oh yeah, talk
about an asset with Freddie Roach.

Speaker 3 (05:12):
Huh yeah, yeah, it's good too.

Speaker 4 (05:14):
You know, I see coach Freddy here, he's here every day,
man respect to him. And yeah, it's I'm happy, you know,
I'm happy to be here.

Speaker 3 (05:21):
And yeah, I'm ready to.

Speaker 2 (05:23):
Go, Jim, Well, let me let me talk about dad
life for a second. You became a dad recently.

Speaker 1 (05:27):
Huh uh huh yeah, yeah, congratulations.

Speaker 2 (05:30):
How was balancing How is balancing diaper changes and being
a dad to a newborn while training for your pro debut?
You try to is this like a balancing act or what?

Speaker 3 (05:39):
Well?

Speaker 4 (05:40):
Right now, it's it's mostly my my wife doing the
taking care of the baby. So you know, I'm very
lucky to have her, and her family is also very supportive,
you know, helping us out with a baby, you know,
just to get me through this fight week. And yeah,
when I come back, I'll be I'll be happy.

Speaker 1 (05:54):
Well that makes Manny a grandpa. How how have your
parents adjusted to being grandparents? Uh?

Speaker 4 (06:02):
They were, they were really excited. My mom and dad
were both very happy. You know, before my my wife
gave birth. They were they kept acting like, oh is
it coming now? Is it coming house?

Speaker 3 (06:11):
So they were they were really excited.

Speaker 2 (06:12):
What does many want to be called? What's his grandpa name?

Speaker 3 (06:16):
I actually don't know. I haven't asked that. I guess
I gotta ask him that.

Speaker 1 (06:21):
Grandparents little name? What did you call your grandparents? It's
probably gonna be the same thing.

Speaker 4 (06:25):
No, maybe, oh yeah, probably probably yeah, yeah, because I
called them by the Filipino word for grandpa.

Speaker 2 (06:31):
So which is why? Which is what?

Speaker 3 (06:33):
No, it's a lolo and Lola and Lola.

Speaker 2 (06:37):
Let me let me ask you this. We just passed
the anniversary of the movie Rocky making its debut. What
would you say your favorite boxing movie of all time is?
If you had to rank some of the famous boxing movies,
the Creeds, the Rockies, what's u what's your favorite?

Speaker 3 (06:52):
Hmm, it's a good one. Uh yeah, probably Rocky, you
know the one with Drago Rocky for It eighty four. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (07:02):
Now we're getting to know Jim well, Pakia excited for
your pro debut this weekend. Do you have a karaoke
song in your back pocket? Because we've seen you know,
your family do this plenty of times. Do you have
a go to song and celebration?

Speaker 3 (07:16):
I actually no, no, I don't know you at all that. Yeah,
I don't do all. My dad loves to do that, but.

Speaker 1 (07:24):
Not you sing.

Speaker 3 (07:27):
No, no, no, I don't think.

Speaker 1 (07:28):
Hey, are you a trash talking kind of guy?

Speaker 3 (07:30):
Man?

Speaker 1 (07:31):
Like when we think about this fight, like Brandon Lally
is your pro debut? Are you a trash talker. I
know you have respect obviously for your opponent, and your
father always did, but do you buy into the trash talking?
Like what are we going to see here? Man?

Speaker 4 (07:44):
No, No, that's not me at all, you know, Okay,
I model myself towards my dad. You know, he's always
humble and quiet. He lets his fists do the talking,
So I try to be the same way.

Speaker 2 (07:54):
Let me ask you this. In the boxing world, we're
seeing sort of a hybrid of like you know, legit
boxing and some of these like specl fights. You're gonna
be watching the Jake Paul and Anthony Joshua next month?

Speaker 4 (08:06):
Yeah, you know, if it's box thing, if it's any
type of fighting, I do love to watch, So I'm
gonna be watching for sure.

Speaker 2 (08:13):
You think you think he has a chance against aj
Anthony Joshua, Jake Paul? What do you think?

Speaker 3 (08:19):
Zero? Zero? For sure?

Speaker 2 (08:22):
Agreed?

Speaker 1 (08:22):
Agreed? And speaking of future fights, because then I want
to talk about your fight too in the preparation. But
there's a few future fights in the works. Your many
Pakiao promotions December sixth, you got pit Bull Cruise and
Lamont Roach. Who do you got on that card? That's
a good fight.

Speaker 4 (08:40):
I'm supporting our guy, of course. You know Cruse, he's tough,
he's strong, and yeah.

Speaker 2 (08:46):
We've seen him battle in person.

Speaker 1 (08:47):
He's unbelieving Pole Cruise is great and I'm rooting for
him too. Uh but Vermont roach man. He fought real,
he fought tank, real tough. So I think it's gonna
be a battle. You got You're gonna be at the fight, I imagine, Right,
how's it for you?

Speaker 3 (09:01):
I don't know yet. We'll see because you know, I
do have a newborn, so that's true. I'll be there
at the fight. But yeah, you watch.

Speaker 1 (09:08):
Your whole childhood has probably been just going to fights
and going to fights all the time, I imagine, right,
So you don't really need to go to all these fights.

Speaker 4 (09:17):
Yeah yeah, growing up, Yeah, every time, my dad thought
we'd always be watching you know, pay per view and
stuff like that.

Speaker 1 (09:23):
Was that nerve wracking for you as a kid or
was that just everyday life?

Speaker 4 (09:28):
Oh no, Yeah, Like as we got closer, it's it's
definitely nerve wracking, especially on the day of the fight.

Speaker 3 (09:33):
You know, the nerves are there.

Speaker 1 (09:35):
Yeah, And I got to ask you about this since
we're talking about Jake Paul and the Mott Roach and
Pitt poll Cruise. A lot of rumors about your dad,
Manny and Floyd Mayweather too, a lot of you know,
you're on social media. You have a big presence on
social media in.

Speaker 2 (09:50):
Ways rus that you're concerned about dad fighting again. Is
that true?

Speaker 3 (09:55):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (09:55):
Yeah, I mean he's turning forty seven this December, so
you know, like I love him and I've been watching
him ever since, and like, you know, I don't really
want him to take any more punishment. You know, He's
accomplished a lot, and I think his eighth division record
is unbreakable, so he's already done everything, you know.

Speaker 1 (10:13):
But he looked so good against Mario Barrios. Dude, I
watched stuff. I was in Mexico watching that fight. You know,
I was on vacation. I had to watch your dad's fight.
I'm like, you know what vacation, kuwait I watched. He
looked really good. Now I hear Barrios is fighting Ryan Garcia.
Maybe I don't even know, but he looked really good.
You wanted to end like that? If you had your choice?

Speaker 4 (10:36):
Yeah, yeah, if it was up to me, I would
I wouldn't want him to find anymore. But you know,
if he does decide to take one more, then you
know I'm here to support him.

Speaker 1 (10:44):
That's great. Man. Now got to talk about your preparation.
You got the great Freddie Roach, as Rich said in
your corner, and I want to know how that relationship works.
He's seen you grow up, so how is it working
with him? And I want to know how ready you
are for this pro debut?

Speaker 4 (10:59):
Man?

Speaker 3 (11:01):
We're ready, man, you.

Speaker 4 (11:01):
Know, we've been working really hard and been in the
gym and uh, yeah, it's nice to see coach Freddy
on a day to day basis, you know. And there's
a lot of good coaches here too in the Wall
card and a lot of good fighters.

Speaker 3 (11:11):
You know.

Speaker 4 (11:12):
I try to listen to them, especially the pro They
give me advice and stuff like that. So yeah, we're
one hundred percent ready.

Speaker 2 (11:18):
Now where you are now making the pro debut? What's
what's so? What's what's the goal for you? Jim?

Speaker 1 (11:24):
Well?

Speaker 2 (11:24):
Is it a couple of years from now your name
is in the mix in your division? Like now we're
gonna say like you're gonna be the guy we're watching
on pay per views or what is that? Like the
couple of year down the line. Goal is that where
you're looking at it.

Speaker 4 (11:35):
I mean you know that that's that's the goal. You know,
you're trying to take this as far as you can go.
And yeah, but we me and my team, you know,
we we like to take it, uh, fight by fight,
So we'll see, we'll see in the future.

Speaker 1 (11:45):
Well again, fight by fight, one step, one punch, one
round at a time. As Rocky said, what is the
dream fight for you? Though? Like, who's got that belt
that you want? Who do you see yourself in the
ring with? You got to see it to get it right,
You got to visualize it. So who's that guy that
you would really like to get that dream fight when
you're ready? Of course, when the time is right, who
would you want to get in the ring?

Speaker 4 (12:05):
Waight?

Speaker 2 (12:06):
Uh?

Speaker 4 (12:07):
I'm not really sure, you know, because because of the weight,
you know, I'm figuring out like what's the perfect weight
class for me and then stuff like that. So uh yeah,
well we'll have to see, we'll see. I love that
championship picture though, is.

Speaker 2 (12:18):
There a Is that an underrated part of boxing? Finding
exactly where you as a boxer fits weight wise, because
you see some guys they'll go up in weight class,
but then they'll struggle with power. You see a guy
go down weight class, you know, and and he's and
he feels like, you know what it.

Speaker 1 (12:32):
Is, he's a new dad. So he's got all those
kiddy snacks lying around. Yeah, he's probably all those kiddy snacks.

Speaker 2 (12:38):
Yeah, yeah, but that but that's a big part of, right,
figuring out just the right weight for you to dominate
that right huh.

Speaker 4 (12:45):
Yeah yeah, because of course you want to be like
in a in a weight where you're comfortable, you know,
you're not too drained.

Speaker 3 (12:50):
You want to be strong fight night. So yeah, we're
trying to figure that out.

Speaker 1 (12:54):
I know you're not like if you follow your dad's
sort of footprint, you're not a addiction kind of guy.
But are we going for that? It's your pro debut
though on a knockout?

Speaker 2 (13:05):
What state?

Speaker 3 (13:06):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (13:06):
What sort of statement are we looking forward to this Saturday?

Speaker 3 (13:10):
You know, of course, just just a duve man.

Speaker 4 (13:12):
You know, if the knockout comes, it comes, But yeah,
we're we're gonna get the win for sure.

Speaker 1 (13:16):
And U, I'm really excited to see this footwork. I
hear a lot about your footwork and your dad's influence
on the footwork. You've got some dancing moves. How do
you get how do you keep this footwork?

Speaker 2 (13:25):
And check?

Speaker 4 (13:27):
Oh, it's just repetition, man, like practice every single day
in the gym, you know. And every time we talk
to my dad he'd remind me like constantly. So yeah,
it's just every day repetition, you know.

Speaker 3 (13:38):
Practice.

Speaker 2 (13:39):
Well, we're pumped to check you out. Temecula, California, Pachanga right, yeah,
Pachanga Resort and Temecula Saturday Night, November twenty ninth, ESPN
Plus got plans now on the west him well, pop yeah,
versus louly Man, wishing you the best, dude.

Speaker 3 (13:56):
Thank you, brother, thank you, thank you, appreciate it.

Speaker 1 (13:58):
Of course we'll be rooting for you. Thanks again. Into
Jim Well pakiaw Yeah, really excited man. You know everywhere
that dude must go and he drops his ID or
a credit card, pug.

Speaker 2 (14:09):
You any relation? Yes, my dad, that's my dad.

Speaker 1 (14:13):
How crazy is that? But can be real exciting to
see where his career goes. So thanks again. That's this Saturday,
and now it's time for your picks dude Week thirteen.

Speaker 2 (14:22):
Already, let's go all right, let's start with the Lions Packers. Now.
I hate to say this, Detroit, but sorry, Lions back
to losing on Turkey Day before they beat the Bears
last year on Thanksgiving. You know, the Lions had lost
seven Thanksgiving games in a row. And I don't know
if they did not impress me much when they almost
lost the Jamis Winston and the Giants last week. So

(14:44):
I don't know if Packers could take a nice little
lead over the Lions with a win here. So I'm
going Packers' money line. Detroit's favored by a couple. It's
of course in Detroit, but I'm going Green Bay Packers
money line locked that one, alright, Well, gobble now, how
about the We're America's team now? Last week we thought, ooh,

(15:05):
could the Colts beat the Chiefs and knock my Homes
and Kelsey out of the playoff picture. Yeah, not so fast.
They're not going down without a fight. So the Cowboys
they've been playing better. Listen, they beat the Eagles last week.
But I like the Chiefs in Dallas, But again, are
they America's team now? Kelsey and you know Swift will
be there right, So I like the Chiefs winning by

(15:28):
a field goal? Another straight bet that's your middle of
the day game when everyone's eating all their fig fifth fix.
And I do like the Chiefs to go to seven
and five and then that'll be part of that Oh
they're gonna make the playoffs conversation. I think it's good
for football, even though we have Chiefs fatigue. Chiefs win.
They beat the Cowboys. Now for a little teaser, bet,

(15:49):
this is the yo. We're for real. They're for real.
These teams are legit. One in five. That was the
Ravens record. One in five. They are now six and
five and they're playing the Bengals. Who I mean, Joe
Burrow could be back, but that doesn't even matter. I
like the Bengals taking that from minus seven to minus one.

(16:10):
So the Bengals continue to dominate the last month and
a half, they'll be seven and five and in first place.
Sorry Aaron Rodgers and that Black Friday game, which is
gonna be awesome. The Eagles coming off a loss, I
don't know if they lose again, but the Bears getting
twelve and a half in a teaser, take that from
six and a half to twelve and a half, and

(16:30):
I think even if the Eagles beat the Bears, I
don't think it's by more than ten points, So lock
it in Bears plus twelve and a half Ravens minus
one in a you know they're for real teaser bet
so for real for real, and a spot you say
it every week screenshot it. Those are some winning bets
right there.

Speaker 1 (16:51):
All right, sweet picks?

Speaker 4 (16:52):
Great?

Speaker 1 (16:53):
No Week thirteen, man, can't wait, So enjoy your turkey ass.
Enjoy the Fixin's the best part. Don't you have some rules?

Speaker 2 (17:02):
Yeah? First of all, when people come over your house,
you have to try a little sliver, a little piece
of everyone's cake or pie or dessert, because you know,
want some guy having to go home with his wife
or girlfriend and she's like, no, what tried my dessert?
So out of courtesy, you try everything on the table.

Speaker 1 (17:16):
You know I'm half Italian, right, you know what we
call that in a dae call that a piece of each? Yeah,
P S of V P A p c V. So
enjoy a piece of each and don't starve yourself. People
always make that mistake too.

Speaker 2 (17:29):
Don't don't be like I'm gonna save it for Thanksgiving dinner, No,
because then you'll feel like shit and be blowd oh.

Speaker 1 (17:34):
And wake up nice and early this year and catch
the parade. Big surprises, riches in the Thanksgiving Parade this year.

Speaker 2 (17:41):
Do you guys, brand new face in the parade this
Thanksgiving morning?

Speaker 3 (17:45):
It's rich the friendly streamer turn larger.

Speaker 4 (17:48):
Than life balloon floating high above sixth Avenue.

Speaker 3 (17:51):
Look at that oversized head. You can can see that
neatly trimmed beard from blocks away.

Speaker 2 (17:56):
Come bad, I'm famous.

Speaker 1 (17:57):
The only mistake is they didn't put flip flops on
thanks next year.

Speaker 2 (18:01):
Now, well, I have a great Thanksgiving, thanks great Black
Friday and Cyber Monday. We'll see you.

Speaker 1 (18:08):
Have you there to Davy, see you in the Oval
Promised Land, right

Speaker 4 (18:21):
