And we're back to the Craig WayShow. Have a message for Craig,
share it by using the talkback featureon the iHeartRadio app tye as is many
other Texas fans, I think allof them very bullish. Shown what Jim
Sloshnegel and his staff can do onthe forty Acres. Him and CDC were

(00:24):
on the Live from Texas broadcast onthe SEC Network on Sunday and I played
you CDC's comments in the top ofthis hour and wanted to get to you.
Slashes comments and kind of reflects onhis last seven days, the twenty

(00:45):
four hours from losing in the CollegeWorld Series final the Tennessee to accepting the
head baseball coaching job at Texas, and here is his response when asked about
his last seven days overall, Ihad an idea that it would be nuclear,
but I didn't know it would beapocalyptic. But that just shows you

(01:10):
the passion of the twelfth Man.To be honest with you, I mean,
I think you can't ask people tobe passionate and support your program the
way I did when I was there, or the way you do when you're
at a great school like that, and then when something negative happens or a
change, then there's going to bea reaction to that. And so it

(01:30):
wasn't by design. I don't wishanybody bad future. Certainly, they just
hired one of our assistant coaches, and I'm excited for coach Early. But
this was just an opportunity for meto be with Chris and to do something
special at a place that's been themore College World Series than any other school.
And despite how simple he just madeit sound and tech taking the Texas

(01:52):
job, it was a very toughdecision. Obviously, he had built a
program at College Station in a veryshort amount of time. I had taken
them to two College World Series andhad taken them to the College World Series
Final where they were just nine outsaway in Game two of winning their first
ever national championship, and even inGame three had their opportunities. So when

(02:15):
he was asked about this, hewent in the detail about how it really
was in such a simple move.Yeah, I mean, I think you
just I don't think there's any tippingpoint reason. It was just I took
a job under one pretense with anathletic director in Ross b York, and
Trev I think is going to dogreat things at Texas. A and M.

(02:38):
There were some things that led meto it just became a different job.
And there's a lot of uncertainty incollege athletics, as we all know,
and there's going to be uncertainty everywhere. But the one thing I know
of that is relatively certain is myrelationship with Chris. And that's not a

(02:59):
negative on tech S and M.You know, they're gonna think what they
want to think, and that's okay. But it was just more of my
relationship with Chris. I don't wantto coach forever, and so for the
remainder of which I do want tocoach, I wanted to have some certainty
with the future. And again Ithink A and M is gonna do great
things, but the University of Texaswas it was just too much to walk

(03:20):
away from. You said, Andrew. The job became different, and we
talked about this on yesterday's program, the alignment in college athletics and the disalignment
between trev Alberts and those at Aand M. And even with Jim Slagenegel,
I don't think he takes this job. If Ross Piork is still the
AD, I don't know. Iwishful thinking wise, I think, yeah,

(03:44):
he probably still does with the CrystalConte. But you're right, when
the toddy shifts in college athletics happened, like in eighty, leaving your school,
that is enough, I think fora guy to leave his program,
even if he's in the stages ofbuilding something really special station Now a lot
has been made of his comments whenit when asked after game three or yeah,

(04:08):
after game three about possibly another jobopening at a different schools, which
alluded to being in Texas. Hehad a response in social media, and
Texas A and M fans kind ofran away with it. Of course,
in Schlosnegel apologized to that reporter inthe press conference, but talked about it

(04:28):
again when he was asked on Sunday, what would he do differently? Sure,
I wish I would have answered thatquestion the press conference differently. I
think coaches coaches. It's that's ahard question to answer. It's really hard
question to answer twenty minutes after thelast out of the National Championship game.
But I apologized for that, andI and I that young man didn't deserve
that, But I so it iswhat that is. I don't think anybody

(04:51):
could do anything about the timing ofit, because if you wait two days,
what does that do to A Iwish those kids could be celebrated.
They should be celebrated, that teamshould be celebrated. I'm glad that coach
Early got the job because they canreally they hired one of our staffs.
They can really celebrate that team andthey deserve being celebrated. But the timing's

(05:15):
never cleaned in any of these things. I think coach Elko didn't get to
meet with his team when he leftDuke for A and M, and there's
just no way to meet with theentire team before you do that. And
the last thing from Jim Slashtengle.Obviously we have talked about his resume both
at TCU and that Texas A andM the College World Serious Appearances six's win

(05:39):
in the final he's on A wentto four with TCU for the six in
program history with Slashtingle as the headcoach, one to two with Texas A
and M. Been a thorn inthe side of the Texas Longhorn program for
a long time, both in FortWorth and in College Station, and now
he gets to be the thorn inthe side of the many other programs not

(06:00):
Texas, and so he was askedabout what he brings to the baseball program.
They've had six coaches at over onehundred years. I think I'm the
sixth coach. And when you lookat the names like Bib Falk, Corrito,
Gustason, coach Pierce did an awesomejob. So there's a there's a
standard here of excellence that is alreadyset up at the SEC. So we

(06:23):
just got to go get great players, coach them up. And we've got
a big schedule ahead of us,that's for sure. Oh it makes it
sound pretty easy, you know,go out and just win some baseball games,
right, nothing more to it.We'll see, we'll see. Jim
Sloanschnegl, the next Texas baseball headcoach, has already made some moves in
the transfer portal, has flipped afew commitments from A and M to Texas

(06:44):
As high Irington alluded to today's thelast stay to join the transfer portal.
Now that is a little bit differentif your coach did end up leave the
program or get fired. I thinkit's thirty days for both Texas players and
A and M players since they hadchange in coaches. So still some time
for that, but the last dayoverall for other programs for college baseball players

(07:06):
to enter the portal. All right, We'll be back to wrap up today's
program next year on The Craig WaveShow
