MLB All-Star Week approaching Arlington

The MLB All-Star Week will take place in Arlington this year with the baseball season at the halway point. Craig reminisces on past All-Star games he's attended. They also touch on the lack of quarterback representation at the SEC Media Days.

coming off of vacation, I wasmentioning the SEC Football Media Days which begin
one week from today. We willbe in Dallas. There's gonna be really
interesting, Cameron. We'll be inthe Dallas Forward Metroplex right at the Major

League Baseball All Star Break. Yeah, the All Star Break hits next weekend.
By the way, next hour,Geene Watson from the Chicago White Sox
front office will join us our weeklyvisit with Gino talks in baseball, and
that the All Star Game is atGlobe Live Field. Incidentally, camera ticket

prices I've noticed for the All StarGame like through the secondary ticket markets,
because of course, the the AllStar Game ticketing situation is much like for
a World Series or like a SuperBowl whatever. The tickets are pretty much
just controlled by Major League Baseball otherthan a few thousand that go to the

home team and you know that sortof thing. But so ticket prices through
the secondary ticket market right now arehigher than they were for Games three and
four of the NBA Finals. Wowfor the Mavericks two home games against Boston,

and I was fortunate I was ableto see Game four, the one
game Dallas one. I was ableto be there for that one. But
it wasn't cheap to get into thebuilding, and apparently it's a lot less
cheap, a lot more expensive totry to get into Globe Life to see
the All Star Game. And theAll Star Game is a great spacky I've
been fourtune. I've seen three andonce as a media member, once as

a fan, and once kind ofsplitting the difference a media member. In
nineteen eighty six when it was inthe Astronome, saw Roger Clemens pitch,
saw Fernando Valenzuela's strike out five consecutivebatters in that game. American League won
that game three to one. However, then in ninety five at then what

is now Choctaw Stadium, back thenit was Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. That
was where I had because I wasworking at the radio station that was inside
of the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington,KRLD. We were the Rangers flagship station
and I had a credential to coverevents like the home run derby was still

a daytime event. And when Iwas out there and guys were going through
batting practice, that's where I heardthis one kid. I was standing near
the rail and heard this one kidcalling out the Barry Bonds. It's mister
Bonds. Can I have your autogram? Mister Bonds? When he turned around
and said, bleep off kid,this classic Barry Bonds. Yeah, I
know that surprises nobody. The kindof guy who Barry Bonds was about that.

But I had a credential, butI did not want to sit where
the overflow media was in left fieldwith that sun in one hundred degrees beating
down there. It's actually a chanceto buy two tickets at face value.
Back then in nineteen ninety five,it was eighty one bucks a ticket,

and I had seats about thirty rowup on the third base side between a
home plate and third base with goodseats. For ninety five All Star Game,
National League, one of the threeto one, Jeff co nine of
the Marlins was the MVP had aneighth inning home run to give him the
separation. And then two years agoLinda and I went to Los Angeles as
part of our honeymoon to see theAll Star Game at Dodger Stadium. Yeah,

and because that was kind of abucket list thing for me. I've
seen the Dodgers at home and road. I've seen in the World Series games
in Dodger Stadium and then away fromthat and then an All Star game,
So it was really cool on that. So I don't know that I'd be
shelling out a great deal of cashfor All Star Game tickets. Supposedly it's
a really really also when one considersthe fact that it'll be climate controlled,

so indoors, you're not going tohave to worry about the heat, the
Texas heat being involved with that sortof thing. But what I was going
to say is going back, we'regoing to be up there during that time.
But the SEC media days will carryits own weight, no doubt about
it. In Dallas. I justgot through reading off that list of the

student athletes. Three for each school. It'll be up there, and there
may be more from other schools thatcome up there and do like social media
things and are parts of it.Those three those will definitely be there.
The other thing that I noticed,I believe too for twelve thirty fifteen,

sixteen yeah. Out of the sixteenschools obviously represented, I think it's eleven
of the sixteen of bringing a quarterbackand you don't. And I remember in
Big twelve media days, it becamepretty fashionable for programs not to bring their

quarterback. Sometimes it's because the coachhas said, we don't know who's going
to be a quarterback, so itwould be disingenuous for us to bring a
quarterback up here when he can't necessarilytalk about being a starter of the position
because he had won the job.There's that mindset. Then there is the

other who they just wanted some otherguys to whether they were in positions of
leadership with the team or whatever,they wanted them to be up there in
terms of speaking for the team.So I went through this list. I
counted the schools that are bringing quarterbacksand the ones who are not. Alabama

surprised by that. Yeah, that'swhat That's kind of what I had in
mind when I was asking if therewas any either the names who were on
the list or omissions that might havesurprised you. But Connor Wigman's name is
not on there. So Yeah,Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida,

And that's it. Those are theones. Those are the eleven who's not
Yeah, Texas, A and Mnot bringing the quarterback, Vanderbilt is not
