(00:00):
We welcome you back to the programon sports Radio AM thirteen hundred Z.
I mentioned this earlier that today ismy second wedding anniversary for Linda and myself,
So we're going to go out andhave dinner tonight and that'd be nice.
And two years ago get married atMertle Beach at the Dunes Club,
(00:20):
and we had picked out, youknow, a lot of the stuff.
You know, Linda handled so muchof this and the design and everything and
it came out great. And thenyou know, we picked out the menu
and all these things, and wealso hired the photographer that was suggested to
(00:40):
us and the DJ. And theDJ asked me, what kind of genre
music do you want? And Isaid, by and large, yat rock,
and by and large he followed that, I mean, yes, there
is the now infamous well celebrated andtalked about moments during the reception when he
actually played an air Supply song, much to my chagrin because I'm not a
(01:03):
fan of air supply, but hedid, and but that's okay. Otherwise,
he did a really good job.Well included in his work as the
DJ was he was going to playthe music for the processional the wedding,
and there was like three songs andone of them was in My Life by
(01:30):
the Beatles, and there were acouple of other ones, and then on
the procession out was going to beYou Make Love and Fun by Fleetwood Mac,
and that's what happened. But thingswere different. The wedding was supposed
to be outdoors, outside with theocean in the background. There it's a
(01:51):
beautiful setting. But of course theone time in the two weeks that it
rained, it rained that day,so we couldn't have it outside, and
the late decision was to move intothe inside room. But they were prepared
for it and it came off very, very nicely. The only thing is
is that when you know, afterthe now pronounce you man and wife thing
and we walk out, it's supposedto be to the music of Fleewood Mac
(02:14):
you Make Love and Fun, andit was, but it was supposed to
take us about like a minute toget out, and people slowly filed out
this room. We were out ofit about ten seconds. So every time
that song comes on, you know, you hear you hear Christine McVie with
her opening words, you know, sweet wonderful you, and I always say
to and we're out and everybody's ontothe cocktail hour. You know that kind
(02:38):
of thing. But anyway, that'sthose are the kind of the memories that
go along with something like that.On the text line, somebody said fruit
pizza is phenomenal, one of myfavorite. See it's not an unheard of
item there, it's it's really good. And Andy's girlfriend Chantell made that and
was really good. Somebody else said, I like either talk about bone in
(03:00):
or boneless wings. Yeah, ohwell, I like either as long as
it has a bone. So somebodydoes lapper or druma okay, pigs on
the wing. It's been described thatsort of thing. And so I when
will the Dave Campbell's Texas Football Magazinebe available to purchase in stores? Thank
(03:23):
you love the show. I'll letGreg Tepper answer that question coming up next
hour when I think it may alreadybe on the shelves, and if not,
it will be very soon. Sothere's a couple of other things.
Oh, racecar, Daryl says,Yeah, there's plenty of NASCAR and Indy
Car to watch. The Yeah,I watched some of that when I was
when I was on the coach aswell, and Formula one as well F
(03:46):
one as well, So Lewis Hamiltonwinning over the weekend. I wonder if
Race called Daryl's gotten in the Fone cause he doesn't not on the level
that he does for Indie and Nascar. He goes to the Indy five hundred
every year, big Nascar fan,not so much in F one. I
have a brother who's almost the opposite, loves F one and likes Nascar,
(04:08):
not so much on IndyCar because hedidn't like to split and then all the
politics and went into it and allthat sort of stuff. I think he
still watches it though, that sortof thing. All right. I had
a couple of pro football notes thatI wanted to get to here. Last
hour we discussed what were some whatwere the major League Baseball grades, and
(04:30):
so since we're at grades, thiswas another ESPN plus thing by Bill Barnwell,
who's outstanding writer, one of thestaff writers at the NFL, and
he and I'm just gonna skim oversome of this and let you know,
he ranked all the teams in termsof their talent, their top talent wide
(04:59):
receivers, tight ends, running backs. Those three positions, wide receivers,
tight ends, running backs, theteam that has the worst He's got the
Los Angeles Chargers after they were fifthlast year. In sixty or four,
(05:21):
he said, virtually every significant playerwho placed the Chargers in the top five
before last season took a major stepbackward left town and weren't replaced with a
player of similar caliber. The mostnotable player remains Quentin Johnston. Remember him
from Temple the TCU horn Frock, who averaged nearly zero point nine to four
(05:42):
yards per route run as a rookie. A lot of drops though, yeah,
a lot of drops. The Patriotsare thirty first, Broncos thirtieth,
Giants, twenty ninth Panthers, twentyeighth, Steelers, twenty seventh, Manders,
twenty six, Saints twenty five,Bill's twenty four, Raiders, twenty
(06:05):
three. The Colts are twenty two. Number twenty one is the Cardinals,
The Browns are twenty, Titans arenineteen. Dallas Cowboys eighteen eighteen. They
were seventh last year. They wereeleventh in twenty twenty two. Barnwell's take
on the Cowboys. How does theteam drop out of the top ten when
(06:27):
its number one wide receiver has acareer year. I suppose it's a fair
question given that cd Lamb led theleague in receptions with one hundred and thirty
five and had a whopping seventeen hundredand forty nine passing yards for Dak Prescott.
There were some concerns during the draftthat Lamb might not have the size
and route running ability to win oneon one and tighter quarters, but those
have faded. Islam has grown intoan NFL into the NFL game. He
(06:50):
posted an eighty five open score lastseason, second only to veteran wizard Keenan
Allen. The number two receiver arguablywas tied end Jake Ferguson. It was
unclear whether he would be the starterahead of rookie second rounder Luke Scommaker,
but by the end of the seasonhe'd become a trusted part of the offense,
(07:10):
racking up seven hundred and sixty oneyards in five touchdowns. He also
wins the Gabe Davis Award for mosttantalizing performance and a playoff loss, as
he went for ninety three yards andthree touchdowns in the otherwise ugly defeat at
the hands of the Packers. Everythingelse isn't promising. Pollard wasn't able to
(07:30):
stay productive after returning from injury lastseason, and the Cowboys replaced him by
bringing back Ezekiel Elliott, who isa replacement level runner at this point of
his career. I think you've saidvery similar things about that. Brandon Cooks
has fallen off noticeably of the pasttwo seasons. After averaging north of two
point zero yards per route run ineach of his first two seasons with the
Texans, he dropped one point sevento twenty twenty two and just one point
(07:54):
three in Dallas last season. Hissaving grace last year was a plus eight
point two percent catch rate over expectation, which might owe more to Prescott than
Cooks, given that Lamb was atplus ten point three in Jalen Tolbert just
north of seven percent. Owing tothe new expected contracts for Prescott, Lamb,
(08:15):
and Michael Parsons, the depth hereis nonexistent. The Cowboys cut Michael
Gallup and didn't replace the veteran Whiteout, leaving them with Tolbert and Cavante Turpin
is the competition for the third widereceiver role. If Lamb were to get
injured, this could be one ofthe two worst groups of playmakers in football.
Oh, how do you feel aboutthat. I think he spot on.
We thought Tolin Pollard was going tohave a great season last year.
(08:39):
Did not work out. It's abig reason why Dallas did not re sign
him. But their big free agentacquisition was Ezekiel Elliott. Okay, maybe
in the draft Jonathan Brooks, that'swho I wanted to know. So they're
going to rely on Rico Daddle, who's going to have to have a huge
year, Deuce fun. They pickedup Royce Freeman along with Ezekie Elliot.
That's a running back group that isprobably bottom five of the league. And
(09:03):
then the receiver spot, yeah,Ceedee Lamb probably a top five, top
three receiver. But then letting MichaelGallup go, who I thought was the
right move because he just did nothave a good year last year, cannot
get consistent, does not make enoughbig plays. I'm fine with him letting
him go. But they did notselect a receiver with any of their top
(09:24):
draft picks, which is okay consideringthey needed offensive line help and defensive side
help. But they didn't make anyfree agent moves for receiver. It didn't
make any trades. So they're askingJaalen tobert the Alabama state wide out to
have South Alabama wide out to havea huge leap this season, and same
thing for confind Dy Turpin, theformer USFL standout player. So they're from
(09:45):
TCU. They're putting a lot offaith in these guys who have not been
proven that take huge leap this year, huge leaps. And if I'm Mike
McCarthy, I'm pissed right because thisis your final season. It's a contract
year for him. You're looking aroundand Barnball makes a good point point.
If Ceedee Lamb goes down, you'recooked. You're cooked, and now you're
gonna try and make a trade forsomebody else. At this point, it's
(10:07):
it's too late. So the playmakersis a huge concern for this Dallas Cowboy
team. The depth is a hugeconcern. If I'm Dak Prescott, you're
looking at San Francisco, who hassurrounded brock Purty with great whiteouts, with
Brad and Ayyuk, with Deebo Samuel, with George Kittle or Christian McCaffrey,
and you're turning around and you're seeing, Yeah, maybe he sees Zeo Elliott
(10:28):
and he's like, oh, okay, I got my best friend back.
But I mean Zeke gets what ayard or two and a cloud of dust
every time touches the ball. RicoDaddle doesn't have that many carries in his
NFL career. Man, they're puttinga lot on these guys who are not
proven. Uh. We'll look ata couple of those rankings, a couple
of interesting notes about that, thoseplaymaker rankings coming up when we continue on
sports Radio AM thirteen under the zoneof the iHeartRadio app.
