Pisa, Texas legend, a Hallof Fame broadcaster, the voice of the
Texas Longhorns, and your host ofthe Craigway Show. Here he is now
Craig Way. Craig wait with youalongside the producer Cameron Parker. In the

(00:31):
earlier first two hours of the program, we have visited with Fosse Whitaker,
also with Bobby Burton from All inTexas Football, and we just visited with
the commissioner of the Southeastern Conference GregThank you of course, yeah, chmistial
like so, it's been a busyday, you could say that. I
mean, this show has been packed. That's the fun part about media days

(00:52):
is you don't know who you're gonnaget, you don't know when you're gonna
get him, but you do knowyou're gonna have some fun guests, and
so far it's been a really funshow. Yeah. You kind of that
flexibility about, you know, andtry to do that. We'll step away
from football for just one bit comingup in a few minutes here when we
visited with Gene Watson from the ChicagoWhite Sox front Offs to talk about the

(01:17):
Major League Baseball All Star Game tonight, the ninety fourth All Star Game and
the just completed MLB Draft, sowe'll visit with him about that as well.
But continuing our conversation with the football, we wanted to hear from the
two of the other coaches who werepart of this. Georgia, of course
is the preseason Joyce to win theSEC, and we'll hear from Kirby Smart.

(01:40):
But Oklahoma, like Texas, it'sbrand new for a into the SEC.
And Brent Vennables was at the podiuma little while ago. These were
his opening comments from SEC media daysearlier. This afternoon, all right,
good afternoon, appreciate everybody being heretoday. Great to be back in the

(02:00):
great city of Dallas where our rosteris represented with close to twenty players.
I'd like to thank Commissioner sank hisstaff or putting on a as always a
first class event. Also like tothank Commissioner Sankie for being in Norman July
first and helping us as a asa university, helping us transitioning to the

(02:23):
SEC. What a great day itwas. I know you got your steps
in that day, but just reallyappreciate your leadership through all of that.
I'd also like to thank our PresidentJoe Harris and our athletic director Joe Costigleon
for their not only their their leadership, but their alignment, their strength,

(02:46):
their vision, and one of themost tumultuous times in college football history transitioning
to the SEC. For again theirtheir leadership, you know, over the
last years, their vision for wherethis program is going, and most importantly
positioning Oklahoma in a great way asa member the newest member of the strongest

(03:10):
conference in all of collegiate athletics, the SEC. I've brought three players with
me today and I would be remissif I just didn't thank them for standing
alongside with me here today representing whatI believe is the strongest group of leadership

(03:31):
and accountability that I've been a partof well, I've been at the University
of Oklahoma, and the things thatthey stand for are all the right things
when it comes to being a collegefootball player, that's off the field,
that's on the field, that's makingeveryone around them better. These our young

(03:51):
men that have achieved at the veryhighest levels both in high school and in
college. You're looking at Jackson Arnoldas a former former New National Data Rade
Player of the Year. You knowwhere you're looking at Billy Bowman and All
American safety, Danny Stutsman and AllAmerican linebacker. And the humility, the

(04:11):
leadership, the work ethic, thetoughness, their love for their teammates,
and most importantly their love for theiruniversity and their opportunity. I just really
humbled that that, you know, those guys are leaders in our in our
locker room. Very very thankful forthem, and you're all going to have
a great time getting a chance touh to visit with them here today as

(04:33):
well. Really looking forward to gettingstarted things started here at the end of
July. Really excited about our footballteam. We've got a great blend of
both experience. I believe we have, give or take around twenty four players
that are going on their third ormore year as a starter in college football,

(04:58):
and we also have this amazing foundationof youth. We have fifty two
scholarship players that are either a freshmanor sophomore going into this year. We're
going to welcome fifty three players thisseason that have never been at Oklahoma in
the fall to run out on thefield. And that's thirty eight scholarship players
and fifteen walk ons. We dohave, again a lot to look forward

(05:25):
to I love the direction of thisfootball team and the development since January that's
taking place, but we still havea lot of work to do, a
lot of excitement, but we gota lot of work to do. We
still have an opportunity over the nextseveral weeks and a couple of months to
can continue to develop, which Ithink is going to be critical as we

(05:46):
chase an opportunity compete for an SECchampionship. It goes without saying the SEC
is a deep, incredibly competitive leagueunlike any other in college football, and
everything everything again about this league isabout parody. It's about competitive depth,

(06:06):
and it's a one possession league aswe've looked at it. You know,
outside in you've got to incredibly challengingvenues. Every member of this conference,
top to bottom, is committed tothe excellence that this conference represents, and
so as a as a football program, being in our first year, we

(06:27):
are really looking forward to the challenge. That's the opening statement from Brent Venables,
and he, like all the coachesdo, your addressed a variety of
questions, but I guess we shouldgive his response to this whole horns down
thing, and hopefully we can putthis thing to bed. I hope sark
is not asked about this. Oh, I hope. I don't know if

(06:51):
he will. He will if theyasked, If they asked brand Venables about
it, then I'm sure. I'msure they will ask Steve Sarkisha and I
would I'll he is always pretty frankingon us. I can't wait for his
response if it does. Indeed, ten out that way. All right,
let's hear a Brent Vinnable's response tothis question about should horns down be penalized?

(07:18):
Should be penalized like on the field? Is that what you're referring to.
I don't really have an opinion. You know, football is a game
of emotion and intensity and passion. And if they say that's going to be
a penalty, then don't do it. And they say it's you know,

(07:39):
free for all and have at it. So everybody's different, everybody celebrates different,
but whatever rules that they have inplace will follow those. Yeah,
play and simple. If it's goingto be a penalty, don't know it.
Doctor, it hurts when my armgoes like this. Well, don't
do like that. You know,it's that simple, don't do it if
it is. But again, weheard McDade, the supervisor officials, saying,

(08:03):
it all comes down to how it'sdone. If somebody's just doing it
when they get over to the sidelinesafter scoring or whatever, no they're not
going to penalize that. If they'rewriting somebody's face after a tackle and they're
taunting them with that, then it'sgoing to be tawning. So that's just
how that is, and hopefully that'sthat's the way it'll end up, all
right. Coming up next, we'lltalk some baseball with Geene Watson from the

(08:26):
Chicago White Sox. When we continueon Sports Radio AM thirteen under the Zone
and the iHeartRadio app.
