(00:00):
It's a rite of passage media days, whether it's Big twelve or now SEC.
And it's also a right of passagefor us as the flagship station of
the Texas Longhorns, to visit witha quarterback of the Texas Lorns Q be
one and yet we're in his hometownregion as we're here with quinn Ewers.
How's how's that feel? By theway, I know South Lakes over in

(00:22):
Terearing County. It's a little bitof a drive from here, but not
that far. So that's it goingto be back in your hometown area anyway.
The air is different, right, everyone knows that when you go back
home, air is different. It'sjust smoother, right, You just breathe
better. But no, it's it'sit's it's always nice coming back home.
Family still still lives in South Lake, so I'm still coming back every now

(00:44):
and then to see them. Youknow, my girlfriend doesn't live too far
from there, so always I'm alwayscoming back. So it's always it's always
nice coming back. So we're hereat SEC Media Days, the first one,
the first one, welcome to theSEC type of appearance here. But
now you're getting ready. This meansfootball season is here. That means that
you're right around the corner. Youguys have been working hard all summer doing

(01:07):
the things that you need to doto get ready. But what does it
mean for you to be looked atas the leader of this team? Your
story has always been a he's notas vocal as a leader. Each year
you got a little bit stronger withyour voice, and now this is for
sure your team. What is itlike to be the leader of the Texas
Longhorns football team? Man? Ijust try my best to be a steady

(01:29):
as a leader as I can,you know, with that, but that
comes a lot of responsibilities. SoI just try to, you know,
just be the leader that I alwayswanted to follow, because you know,
to be a good leader, yougotta you gotta know how to follow.
So, you know, I justtry to be the same person every single
day. And you know, youknow, I think if I if I

(01:49):
do that and and others along leadin that aspect of it, I think
that you know, we'll we'll we'llhandle success very well. And you know,
when adversity strikes, I don't thinkwe'll flinch, you know. Uh.
Piggybacking on that, when I wasvisiting with Sark he he talked about.
I asked him if he'd had anytime to take any time off like
last year. He didn't. Hesaid, I actually had a little bit

(02:09):
because I had the comfort level ofknowing that, like the three guys I've
got here, Quinn and Kelvin andShade are part of the leadership of this
football team as well. So it'sa communal thing, isn't it's every it's
it's a lot of different guys whohelp lead the way, even if you're
kind of at the forefront of it. You know, every championship team and

(02:30):
every every really good team, forthe most part they are they are player
led. And the more leaders thatyou have, the easier it is for
to get to go to get guysto buy in to what we believe in.
I mean, at the end ofthe day, the standards and standard
and we're obsessed with it. Man, you said the word obsessed, and
that was something that I asked CoachSark about myself. I was like,

(02:52):
that word that just stood out tohim about the obsession. I asked him
about all gas, no breaks. He said, that's not going anywhere,
But the obsessed part of it issomething that you have to have controlled but
you also have to be able totalk about it with your team and get
them to understand. Is that somethingthat you've really taken the heart and you
and your teammates have understood the message. Yeah, I mean totally, totally,

(03:14):
one hundred percent. You got tobe obsessed if you want to be
great. I mean, Kobe hasso many sayings when he talks about obsession.
You know, without obsession, it'shard to be great. I mean,
I'm obsessed with the game of football, and I know all of our
guys are obsessed with the game offootball, and we're all obsessed of getting
back to where we were and obsessedto getting to even even farther because because

(03:35):
we aren't satisfied. Help me outwith something here. After your first year,
folks came in and said, Quinnlooks great. He just dropped about
fifteen pounds. He looks tremendous inall this. And then after your even
better year come back and I hearfolks say, Quinn looks great, he's
put on some weight. So howdoes all that work in terms of the

(03:55):
conditioning and whether you drop some weightor pick some weight, or and getting
yourself into the shape that you knowthat that helps you perform at your best.
Yeah, well, I think Ijust after that first year, I
dropped a little too much, toomuch weight, and you know, I
just want to be able to handlea sustain my body and handle the hits
that that I'm going to be taking. So I mean, at the end

(04:16):
of the day, I needed toput on weight, and you know I
had, I had made a andput a really good foundation body weight and
muscle and and all that already. So so building off of that foundation made
it only easier to get to agood uh two ten instead of like a
bad two ten or there is ahuge difference. We're talking to QB One

(04:40):
quinn yours quarterback of the Texas Longhornshere at SEC media Days, and I
wanted to ask you this because Iasked John Dads and I asked Kelvin Banks.
This iron sharpens iron every single day. You guys are out there busting
your butt offense versus defense, defensivebacks versus why receivers. Who has stepped
up the biggest for you in theon the wide receiver side, Because John

(05:03):
Day said they all good. Hewent, I'll tell you, I'll tell
you what that whole room. Imean, it's cool to see a room
like that because at the end ofthe day, they're all competing for the
same thing, but they're best friendsdoing it, you know what. I
mean. They're not going to goup and try to fight each other and
all that stuff. I mean, they very well could be doing that because

(05:25):
I mean, they all want toget on the field, right, but
they're they're just competitive and they allwant to get on the field. And
I mean, at the end ofthe day, jod Day is right,
they all they've all stepped up andyou know, they're all getting They're all
getting one's reps. They're always getthey're all getting two reps. They're all,
you know, just trying to putthe work in because you know the
fall cam is going to be thebig tail. I have a reason for
asking this. Have you started playingthe new NCAA football teacher? Of course?

(05:46):
Okay. The reason why I askedthis is because I heard somebody say
Texas doesn't have as much RPO inthat Is that a mistake with that?
There's some RPO for sure, Imean there's a lot of I mean the
way I was playing, I feellike there was a good amount of r
p O. Okay, it mademade it work on the deal, all
right. That The one other thingwas gonna ask you. In visiting with

(06:08):
Sark, he talked about the relationshipthat you and Arch hat He said,
people like to thinking, Oh it'sArch and it's and it's Quinn. It's
all that he goes, they're greattogether and work together. Is that?
How has that all developed? Yeah? I mean people love people love building
stories about false false stuff. SoI mean we're good buddies. We've been
good buddies. I've known him sincehe was in high school. So again,

(06:31):
Iron Trapperd's Iron. It says itin the Bible. Uh, you
know, to have a teammate likethat again where we're competing at a high
level, but you know, we'rereally good buddies off the field, and
you know we we have quarterback dinnersevery single week in season and off season.
So that whole room is super closeand they're gonna be They're gonna be
friends of mine for the rest ofmy life. All right. Before you
leave, down Jade showed us hisMarnies, So I got it. Get

(06:56):
you to go. Yeah, yougotta tell you, we gotta see what's
happened. I got you. Makesure you didn't follow my pants? Are
that right there? That right there? This is what it means when you
say the sec. It just meansmore right there. And the buckle too.
Oh yeah, we saw that buckle, bro We saw that thing.
I wanted to ask you that becauseyou know, you sit here and you
look at all of those conversations thatare being done. Everybody's been walking in

(07:18):
the biggest question has been about thedrip. The drip looks like you did
all right for yourself. Man.I tried, I tried. I don't
got it like all the other guysdo. The Sparkley shoes and the and
the big necklaces, but I gotsome boots. We're going to see you
around the corner soon. Appreciate youstopping by here. We'll continue on sports

(07:39):
radio in thirteen under The Zone.
