(00:00):
Good afternoon, everybody. Welcome tothe program on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred
the Zone. Glad to be withyou, Glad to be back on air,
and apologize for the delay of gettingon air. This was something completely
out of our control. Sometimes itis well within our control. Not this
time. Here at the Omni Hotelin Dallas, the entire grid of Ethernet
(00:25):
along the part of Radio Row wherewe were went out. It was I
think they explained it to us thatthe IT guy was saying, well,
in the process of somebody else downat the other end of the road,
as he called it, deconstructing,I guess they were just breaking down their
equipment to go home. It disconnectedthe entire Ethernet routing system here by which
(00:53):
we have the opportunity to reach you. But they took care of it and
got it done, and so weare on the and I appreciate your patience.
They are also appreciate the hard workof the producer, Cameron D.
Parker d for Dallas Always Today thelast day in Dallas here, that was
kind of a weird deal with it. It's funny after being here for four
(01:18):
days, the last day, rightas we're getting ready to wrap up this
week. Everything goes terribly wrong, but Craig, we rebounded, We persevere,
We got through that adversity. Atthe word adversity, adversity. Good
lord, I think it's time forme to go to bed, and we're
back on the air. So well, let me tell you what we got
(01:41):
coming up. We've had to reshufflethe deck club. We were going to
visit with Toby Rowland, my goodfriend, the play by play voice of
the Oklahoma Centers, but they werekind of on their way out. They
were going to wait on us oror be delayed on the on this,
but they were on their way out, and so I did not want to
make them wait. Let them getback on I thirty five because they needed
(02:05):
to hit the road. They werekind of pushing their departure time back because
of us. When we were stilldown. We were going to visit with
him right out of the gate.So I told them we'll catch up with
Toby another time. We will, however, here from the head coach of
Texas A and m Mike Elko, will do that. As inconceivable as it
may have seemed at the time losingpower, it did not go into our
(02:30):
inconceivable file for today, but wedo have that coming up three o'clock hour.
We're also going to hear from SamPitman, the head coach of the
Arkansas Razorbacks, and we're gon we'regoing to hear we'll have a conversation with
Kirk Bowles. Of course, Kirkfor many years, I think it's around
(02:53):
fifty years something like that. I'lldouble check that with him with the Austin
American Statesman now now with the HoustonChronicle. We'll visit with Kirk in the
three o'clock hour to talk about things, and then in the four o'clock hour
a conversation that we had just alittle while ago. We were able to
(03:14):
record it. A conversation with GregMcElroy, the former obviously Alabama quarterback who
was the quarterback on the opposite sideof that National Championship game where Cole McCoy
was injured when Alabama defeated Texas backin January twenty ten, but he had
a chance to down on. Ofcourse, he's an ESPN broadcaster now and
(03:35):
we'll visit with him coming up atthe four o'clock hour. We may also
have some conversations with or have somesound coming to us from the press conferences
involving Hugh Freeze of Auburn and MarkStoops, the head coach at Kentucky.
They are still in their media sessionsright now. They're the last two coaches
(04:01):
out of the sixteen finishing up.This is Auburn in Kentucky. Remember this
started on Monday with LSU and thenSouth Carolina and then Ole miss and then
Missouri on Monday, or Vanderbilt onMonday, and then on Tuesday you had
(04:24):
Georgia, Oklahoma, Missouri, andTennessee. Yesterday, Long Orange head coach
Steve Sarkeshan was here with the Texascontingent that included additionally quinn Ewers, Jade
Baron and also Kelvin Banks and MississippiState was here yesterday. In Alabama was
(04:46):
here yesterday, and so we hadall kinds of conversations and interviews and sound
with those guys. And if youmissed any of that or just want to
hear it again, you can goto our podcast page or YouTube page you
can check it out where Cameron storedall of that outstanding audio. And then
(05:10):
today it has been as we mentioned, Arkansas, Texas, A and m
and now Auburn and Kentucky wrapping up, So anyway, we'll bring you those
conversations, the press conference things ofthat as well. Would it be safe
to say things have kind of geareddown just a little bit. It's funny,
Craig, because yesterday when we wrappedup our show, we were kind
(05:32):
of in the near the main entrancefor those who are coming into radio row,
who are coming into the media room, who were coming into the main
media lobby where the players and coachesdo their press conferences, and so a
lot of the times when you getnear that five o'clock, six o'clock,
seven o'clock broadcast window, you seeall of the reporters doing they're either their
(05:53):
live shots or they're taping their liveshots right in front of us. And
after we packed up, there musthave been i don't know, ten to
fifteen probably in the vicinity of wherewe're at, and all of them were
talking about Texas today. It's it'skind of empty. It's definitely has quiet
a down. And sure, thefunny thing is is so four days obviously,
(06:15):
they provide media meals for us.They have a continental breakfast, they
have a lunch and snacks. Theyfeed us very well and Cameron took full
advantage. I did I have togo box ready to go for my drive.
If you've done to go boxes allfour days, three to four days,
I did not know I could doit in the first dayor else I
would. So Monday and Tuesday theyhave us in the media dining room with
(06:42):
two separate tables I think trays forthe food. Yesterday for Texas they had
two extra ones in one of thecorridors here, but then day four they
don't have it. So they didthat because they knew there was going to
be an excess of people here becauseTexas was going to be in at ten
on day three, but not daysone, two, and four. So
for all those who are aren't toohappy with all the coverage Texas is getting,
(07:08):
day three was the most popular dayfor other media members. Days one,
two, and four completely different. That's the Texas Longhorn effect. I
think that's a great point, nodoubt about it. It was. It
was different, and we said thatyesterday. It just kind of had a
palpable interject field yesterday, not justbecause of Texas, but I think it
(07:30):
was a big part of it certainly, and and maybe some of that palpable
energetic field had to do with thefact you had more people here because of
Texas, and so there was alot of skurrying around and you know,
extra interviews that yesterday it was onwith Paul fine Bomb. He had me
on his show and we just andthe was a and my cardball Hard who
(07:53):
finished up this morning and now he'sdriving back to Austin. Harje had his
conversations as well, and others hadhim in the band. So there was
a lot of curiosity about Texas. There was a lot of a lot of
conversation about Texas, so you knowthat that was to be ex said.
But then, like you said, today was kind of a gearing down of
(08:13):
it. You might hear in thebackground there's cases being closed as people are
packing up and leaving and all ofthat. Now, you know, the
ESPN family and networks are still hereand they're still doing all of their interviews
and things. But there's a lotof like our friends from the Sports Animal
in Oklahoma City right now, that'swhat all of that, that snapping of
cases and lids closing things like that. They're packing up. They're done here.
(08:35):
Others have been done here in thisradio road goes way on down.
But a lot of the folks arecalling it today saying, you know,
the four days they're done here andwe'll be done after obviously after our program
will be one of the last onesout of here later this afternoon. But
you know, that's that's how thatworks. When you come to these you
(08:56):
get to that last day, it'skind of an exhale and then you know
at that point folks are folks arestarting to pack up and you hit the
road a little bit. Everybody's readyto go home. And the IT supervisor
here at the Dallas aman who cameand helped us get back on the air.
After we got back up, hewas like, Okay, y'all will
be done at three o'clock and we'relike, no, no, we're on
(09:16):
the air till five. And hewas like till five. Oh, I
gotta change my schedule. Oh man, because everyone else he's seen everybody else
pack up, but no, we'rehere till five pm. Kind of tells
you that everybody's kind of ready forthis week to be done. It is
a long week. Four days isa lot, but of course when you
have sixteen teams, you want tobe able to spread it out. Yeah,
exactly all right, So we're gettingcaught up back on track, all
(09:37):
right, we'll take a break. When we come back, it will be
inconceivable. We will have that hereon this Thursday afternoon from SEC Football Media
Day's the Omni Hotel here in Dallas, and we'll continue on Sports Radio EM
thirteen under the Zone, where youcan always listen to us for free on
the iHeartRadio app.
