(00:00):
We continue here on this Tuesday afternoon, a kind of a rainy Tuesday aftern
You remember, Cam, I saida couple of weeks ago that there should
be a new for those of youwho are into the drinking game world.
I'll leave it at that. Thoseyou like to do whenever somebody says blank,
or whenever somebody does this or whatever, you take a drink, that
(00:20):
kind of thing. And remember acouple of weeks ago I mentioned, here's
a new drinking game for you,and this has This is not a shot,
by the way, at any ofour local meteorologists and weather forecasters.
I think they all do it.There's reasonably good at job as you could
do, given the ever changing natureof the weather here in the Greater Austin
(00:40):
Central Texas area. However, theyare all fond of a phrase that I
think would be the inspiration for adrinking game. And where I said,
anytime you hear a meteorologists say theweather models do not agree or we have
three or four of these weather modelsand they're not all in agreement with them.
Whenever they say something like that, take a drink. I said that
what a couple of weeks ago,I guess was that sort of thing a
(01:03):
month or two ago. Been thatlong? Wow? Okay, well,
I said whatever. Whenever they saythe weather models do not agree, or
we have several weather models they don'tagree, to take a drink. Okay,
I stand by that. Here's anotherone. Uh. I heard it
a bunch yesterday and this morning. And I and I watch all I do
(01:25):
all you can ask my wife Linda. I watch all of the local area
newscasts, okay, x A nK, I KU box seven. I
watch all of them a DVR,the six six o'clock newscasts and the eleven
o'clock and then even some of theearlier ones in the day. So I
watched them A for weather, butwell A for news, and then B
(01:49):
for weather, and then also sports. So so I'm watching all of them.
And and the other thing that themeteorologists say, can't blame them for
this, that they do say wheneverwe get rain like we've had in the
last twenty four hours, they'll they'lltalk about it. And I'm looking outside
right now here you know where weare, astride, you know, Lake
(02:15):
Austin here near hard by the PennybackerBridge. We're pretty close to it.
And I'm watching rainfall. And Isaw this yesterday afternoon when I got home,
and last night and then DVR inthe morning newscast to look at all
that, and the meteorologists are all, see, you know, so we've
gotten this mount of rain. We'vegot rain, a lot of rain,
(02:38):
you know out west in Atlanto Countyand Burnon County and blah blah, and
then they add the words which isa good thing. So whenever you hear
a meteorologists say we're getting blah blahblah blahin and that's a good thing,
or which is a good thing,I think we're all in agreement. That's
a good thing. It is.I look at my yard and it's drinking
(02:59):
it all any like it, butthat could be a drinking game as well.
Whenever you hear meteorologists say we're gettingwe're getting significant rain and that's a
good thing. And I would imaginethey probably say as opposed to saying it's
a bad thing if you get flashflooding, because that's the other side of
it. And I do know thatthere they said there was going to be
a flash flood warning. I thinkout in Wano County tonight because the rains
(03:23):
may really spike up, so yeah, that it's good for them to know
that as well. But a lotof the rain I'm hearing that's to the
west of US is dropping into thosetributaries that feed into the Highland lakes and
things like that, which is alla good thing. So they're supposed to
(03:45):
rain every day until Monday. Now, of course that can change, but
every day until Monday we might getsome sort of rain showers, scattered thunderstorms.
So I'm good with that. Yeah, I'm good with that. I'm
good with that because it also keepsthe temperatures down. Yeah, a little
humid. Yeah, it was likeHouston, Florida out there, but North
Caroliniva the summer too. Eighty degreesin late July. I mean, who
(04:06):
would have thought. I can livewith it because we know in August,
in September, August thirty first, because Colorado State, we're going to be
sitting. If you're going to bein that north end zone like myself,
most likely at two thirty you willbe cooking bacon in Broiland, right,
So we'll take this eight degree weather. So what are you going to sit
in the tickets that you have withyou? I don't know my Dad's like,
(04:29):
I'm going, I paid for I'mgoing. But for me, I
don't know. Maybe I'm just abig bit of a whimp. Now you
know, you're going to have acredential. That's exactly right. So that's
why maybe I'll hang out in themedia lounge, get some social media post
up, but we'll see, okay, see okay. Just to make sure
that you know how Also, itis at this time of year when the
Cowboys get out the training camp atox Nard, the first thing we always
(04:53):
hear about speaking of the weather ishow nice it is out there. You
know, you're near the Canao Valleyand you're getting tempered in the eighties in
the low eighties, and it's perfect. That's why they go out there and
they get a lot of work done. YadA YadA, all that kind of
stuff. Well, now, allthe temperatures may be said. In fact,
they've had a lot of hot weatherin Los Angeles. I was watching
(05:14):
the Dodgers and Giants last night, and the temperature started in the mid eighties
and the evening, which is kindof hot for out there in the evening
then and then it cooled off afterthat. But it does mean that training
camps are here and that they're underway. Now I understand where we are with
you with regard to your your feelingsand thoughts and perspectives on the Cowboys.
(05:40):
I get it. I do saluteyou in that you have not shirt your
responsibility or shied away from keeping upwith and reading up on the Cowboys strings
and weaknesses and needs and unanswered asyou were saying, that was one of
the things that frustrated you the most. I was struck by something Dak Prescott
(06:01):
said. And again this is refersto watching all the local newscasts last night.
I think I heard and saw thisSoundBite on at least a couple of
the newscast where Dak I won't sayhe's being sensitive about it, but clearly
he's been asked about it. Andthat is the inertia, the lack of
(06:26):
movement that the Cowboys front office hashad an the off season. And he
asked him about talent, and hehad this real kind of esoteric, generic
philosophical thing about talent is something insometimes in name only, and that they're
(06:46):
all talented and it's how we playtogether and develop as a team, and
it's not necessarily just about the perceivedtalent pickup on that end. Now,
although that's true by the same token, the fact that they didn't really do
(07:08):
much of anything with regard to that, and then and then not only that,
you know, you've not only didthey not do that much, they
still have contract issues unresolved, asyou pointed out with Dak Prescott and word
is ceedee Lamb's not going to reporttomorrow, which is not good if if
(07:30):
that happens. One of the UH, one of the writers who follows all
of this in the NFL very veryclosely and on their NFL Nation site UH
for ESPN or ESPN plus what waswritten was the the statement that does all
(07:54):
in mean winner or else? JerryJones did not follow the traditional meaning of
all with the Cowboys offseason approach toadding to the roster, in other words,
sign who you got to sign, saying you know, I've heard this
set about the team. I likethe rams that they quote unquote went all
in you know three years ago whengoing in the twenty twenty one when they
(08:16):
when they added some key pieces tothe roster and like Odell Beckham, you
know, Junior and other ones togo all in, to push in to
win super Bowl and it paid off. And I think a lot of people
think that that's the traditional meaning ofall in. I think Jerry was thinking
about it in more of a mentalstate of all in. He said,
(08:39):
the question is is he all inor he is all in on Mike McCarthy,
the entire coaching staff, and DakPrescott. They're all entering the final
year of the respective contracts, allof them and even the new coaches like
defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer. So theCowboys have won thirty six games the past
three seasons, not gotten past thedivisional round of the playoffs with McCarthy and
(09:03):
Prescott. If they don't get itdone this year, will either be back
in twenty twenty five. Jones hasdone this sort of thing before with this
coach. In twenty fourteen, JasonGarrett was entering the final year of his
deal without making the playoffs. Fromtwenty eleven to twenty thirteen, the Cowboys
went twelve and four, lost inthe divisional round to McCarthy's Packers, and
it earned Garrett a five year deal. Is that what you're worried about as
(09:24):
a Calvan, that it'd be playingthe Saint Old Song that'd be like that
all over again. Yeah, andlooking at the schedule, looking at the
roster, I mean Craig Dallas isone injury away to the Ceedee Lamb or
Micah Parsons to missing the playoffs.I mean their schedule. If you're a
Cowboys fan and you have looked atthe schedule, is ridiculous. To start
(09:48):
this season at Cleveland week one,who had one of the best defenses in
the league in the first half ofthe season this past year. You go
to New Orleans, which will beokay, but then you're home for Balti
More, a Ravens team that wasone of the best in the AFC this
past season. You go to aNew York team that had a great draft
a good offseason. You go toa Pittsburgh team that's always tough to beat.
(10:09):
In Pittsburgh, they might have theirown quarterback this year. You're home
for Detroit, who was a playoffteam a couple plays away from going to
the Super Bowl. Bye week atSan Francisco, who Shanahan's had the Cowboys
number ever since he got to SanFrancisco. At Atlanta, who has a
revamped offense with Kirk Cousins plus ofcourse, Bijon Robinson. Then you have
(10:33):
home for Villy, home for Houstonat Washington, who had a good offseason,
back to New York or home forNew York. Then you're home for
Cincinnati Burrow and the Bengals at Carolina, which might be the only win for
sure on the schedule to this point, I'll give you New Orleans if you
want, Tampa Bay. Who knows. But the first three months of the
(10:54):
season, Craig are a death trapfor the Cowboys. That concerns me.
Now. Now, of course theycould start out three to four and oh,
but the same thing. I justI don't there's nothing that has changed
his past offseason that has given meany more confidence in this team. I
thought Dan Quinn was a great defensivecoordinator. I think Mike Simmer will do
(11:15):
a good job. But it wasn'tthe defense that failed Dallas. It was
Mike McCarthy in the offense. AndI think this season it's going to be
Jerry Jones in his front office andtheir decisions and the lack of signings,
the lack of moves that will failDak Prescott in the Cowboys. Because we
talked about it, you're saying you'reall in. You're saying you're all in,
(11:37):
but your biggest free agency move tothis point is signing Eric Kendricks at
linebacker. That does not scream allin the me. That's why I think
all in is more of a mentalstate of mind thing, at least for
Jerry. Coming up. Speaking ofJerry Jones, he's part of Inconceivable and
that's next on sports Radio AM thirteenunder the Zone in the iHeart Radio app.
