(00:00):
I mentioned in the show bringing CharlesBarkley sound. Now, course, with
the NBA deciding to go with Amazonand not recognize TNTs trying to match their
rights for the NBA deal, sothat's going to push out TNT from broadcasting
the NBA after this next season. So starting with twenty twenty five, that
(00:20):
means no more Inside the NBA,no mar Kevin Harlan and Reggie Miller,
no more basketball on the TNT networks. So Charles Barkley, of course,
a co host on Inside the NBA, put out a tweet because it does
seem like this is the end forInside the NBA as we know it on
(00:44):
TNT with Ernie Johnson, with ShackChuck and Kenny the Jet Smith. So
Chuck released his statement now a tweet, a statement saying, quote, clearly,
the NBA is one of the breakupwith us from the beginning. I'm
not sure TNT ever had a chanceto match the money, but the league
knows Amazon and these tech companies arethe only ones willing to pay for the
(01:04):
rights when they double in the future. The NBA didn't want to piss them
off. It's a sad day whenowners and commissioners choose money over the fans.
It just sucks. I just wantto thank everyone who has been at
turn for the last twenty four years. They are the best people and the
most talented, and they the servebetter. I also want to thank the
NBA and its fans, the bestfans in sport. We're going to give
(01:26):
you everything we have next season. So Chuck appeared on the Dan Patrick show
right here on that you can listento on AM thirteen hundred The Zone,
and he talked about it, andDan Patrick asked him about what could happen
with the future of Inside the NBA. Could they eventually maybe end up on
(01:51):
a different network for show. IfI'm Amazon, why wouldn't Amazon say,
why don't we capitalize on the ask, you know, pregame show that there
is out there and bring you guysin, keep everybody in Atlanta, keep
all the producers, and you guys, you know, just produce your show.
(02:12):
Well, first of all, youhave to ask Ernie that, because
Ernie is the guy who probably wouldnever leave Turner. But Dan, everything's
on the table. Have you hadsomebody spoken to Amazon? I have spoken
to all three networks, So youspoke to Amazon. I have spoke to
all three networks. So you spoketo Amazon. I have spoke to all
(02:36):
three networks. Dan, who gotthe NBA going forward? I know Amazon?
Amazon is where you give me.Say this, I have spoken for
the last three months. I've spokento all the networks. That doesn't sound
like somebody who's gonna retire. Well, Dan, I'm gonna listen. I'm
(02:57):
gonna listen. I mean, first, i'd be stupid not to take their
call. But the beauty of thissituation I don't have to make any decision
for a year, Dan, ButI told all three networks, Hey,
I'm honored, I'm flattered that y'allwant to talk to me. But let's
see what happens in a year.So that's the great thing about it.
(03:22):
From my perspective, I don't haveto make any decisions for a year.
But like I say, my intention, I'm not trying to play hardball.
I'm not trying to get attention. My attention right now is to retire.
Like I say, Ernie would nevergo to another network. I have not
talked to Kenny and Shaq, butI have listened to everybody, and like
(03:45):
I say, I got a year, Dan, I ain't got to worry
about this. All this stuff isjust knowing for a year. To be
honest with you, Okay, wouldyou go someplace without Ernie or without let's
say Shaq and Kenny. Let's sayErnie is not leaving, staying TNT Atlanta.
Would you on your own go toanother network to be part of their
(04:08):
NBA broadcast. I'm not frozen.I'm thinking that's a great question, Dan.
I don't know how to answer thatquestion. You know, I ain't
gonna never lie to you. Idon't know how to answer that question right
now because I don't know. Firstof all, I don't know who's got
(04:31):
what going forward. Like when Ihad these conversations with these companies, they're
like, we're finalizing what we're goingto have, So I would have to
sit back. Hey, ESPN,tell me what you guys got and what
you want me to do. Amazon, tell me what you got and what
you want me to do. NBCtell me what you got and what you
(04:53):
want me to do until they finalizewhat they got, because there was room
when we would like, we're gonnalose them. Even if we retain the
NBA, we're gonna lose a dayof the week. We're gonna lose the
conference finals every other year. Sowhen I talk to these companies, I
(05:15):
just get back to me when youknow what you got. That's fair.
Amazon's got the money, though,Dan, everybody's got money. They're paying
two billion dollars a year. No, no, no, no, Amazon's
got money. Hey, I'd bea fool not to say I'm a god.
I don't listen to Amazon. I'mnot that stupid. I agree.
(05:40):
That's Charles Barks on the Dan PatrickShow this morning, when asked about it.
If he could see himself leaving TNT. It does seem like Ernie's gonna
want to retire with Turner Sports. So if this show continues, it's gonna
be a different version of it,and it's it's not gonna probably have Ernie,
and most likely we'll probably see Shaq, Chuck and Kenny if they do
(06:02):
continue in media working for different networks. So I'm the ESPN. I try
and get all three of them tocome, especially considering that Reddick just left
for the Lakers and Bob Myers mostlikely will take a job somewhere else in
the NBA down the line. ButI would throw everything for Shack, Chuck
and and Kenny. Okay, realquick, before we end this show,
(06:24):
I mentioned Jerry Jones. I knowyou guys are tired of hearing Jerry Jones
and who probably never will after afterthe day's show again on this program.
But Tim Kalishaw the Dallas Morning Newsan incredible writer. I believe he's also
a former Longhorn. He asked thequestion. I think all Cowboy fans think
every single season we have a questionabout maybe who the coach will be,
(06:46):
who the quarterback will be, butwe always know who's going to be the
owner in GMS, always going tobeat Jerry Jones and Steven Jones and Kali
Shaw asked Jerry. He says,we know that. But every other team
in the NFL, the thirty oneteams do not have this scene set up.
Is that fair? This is whatJerry Jones said. I think the
(07:10):
Cowboys have had two general managers,Tech Sram and me two in the history.
You look around the NFL and I'llbet I don't know. I really
haven't stud this, but I'll betyou they've had thirty They've had as many
general managers, maybe sometimes as they'vehad coaches since the reality of it is,
(07:34):
which was from the day that wewalked through the door, that I
knew that I was going to haveto be responsible for any and everything that
went on. So that if thatis going to be the case, then
I I'm trying not to use somebodyelse's comment this way. I'm only comfortable
(08:05):
doing it that way. I can'tdelegate that. Now, what that implies
is that this thing is a productof me sitting up there throwing darts.
That's not the case. I liketo think that the reason that I've enjoyed
(08:28):
some success in my life is thatI've had people like Mike and Stephen in
my ear hard Now, Stephen ismy son, and my children, we
all work together. I heard afather's prayer one time that says, please
(08:50):
don't let me be a bully, because I can be. They will let
me because they love me so thatI lay up waking nights making sure that
my ears are open and that I'mnot too willfully strong. So believe you
(09:11):
me, I listen and I geta lot of input. And when this
guy to my right talks to me. You notice in a draft room who
I'm sitting by, I'm sitting mymic when he talks to me, it's
going in and it's not coming out, not a lot of things. But
(09:31):
I'm not slow, so I dolisten to the people around me. Otherwise
I wouldn't even be sitting here,Tim, I wouldn't even be sitting here.
You can't get here and get tobe a part of this just me,
and so I've had lots of input. Jimmy Johnson gave me a lot
(09:52):
of input. Okay, did anybodyelse have to make the final decision?
The decision it's the button or not? Not one time in the history that
I've been involved with this team. Now, if my butt has got my
mind out someplace else and not onthis, then you have to trust me
(10:13):
that I know how to since I'mnot on top of the issue. Trust
it. When Mike says we're goingto do it this way, Steven says
we're going to do it this way. Trust me. That's the way it
is. And it's been that waysince we've got the Dallas Cowboys, whatever
we are or whatever we're not.I think I saw where we've the sixth
(10:35):
or seventh, sixth winning this teamin the last fifteen years in the NFL,
or something like that. In theNFL, and with Mike as our
coach, we've had in my mind, we've had very really good among thirty
two teams about what we've done.Does anybody think that good for me is
folding it up and not having gottento a Super Bowl? No, And
(11:01):
I hope y'all know me enough toknow that if you could write a check
and I had it, and ifit actually guaranteed me whatever it is,
you got your super Bowl, Ihope y'all know i'd write that check.
I'm embarrassed to tell you that Iwould. There's no such thing, and
you got the greatest people, greatestcoaches, greatest advice you've ever seen,
(11:22):
and it doesn't guarantee you a SuperBowl. I apologize for this if self
talk with you to the here today, but I do and have. This
is not your normal GM situation.I mean to tell you I will change
(11:43):
on a dime. If Steven reachesover and says, let me tell you
this, I'm going strong here,or Mike goes strong, will go strong.
By the way, for those wonderingat home, last time the Cowboys,
I went in one. An NFCConference championship was nineteen ninety five,
(12:05):
so we're at twenty what will beat twenty nine years since then? So
it's a great question for Tim Collishawand Jerry Jones. Answer kind of tells
you that things aren't going to change. When people ask me why I'm not
going to watch a Cowboys game thisyear, that was a great answer why.
I'm just going to point to thatanswer right there, because yeah,
(12:26):
just because Mike McCarthy gives you advicedoes not mean it's good advice. And
the same thing goes for his son. But I think at this point all
just delusional at the start. Andwe'll be back to wrap up today's show
here. Want to fire me upFriday
