so make sure you go ahead anddo that. But want they continue more
with this Dallas Cowboy conversation from atraining camp this week. Players, rookies,
vets, coaches, all of them. All of them have been reported
(01:29):
to have reported to training camp thisweek across the NFL, and we've seen
some headlines including Tua getting his fouryear contract extension. We've seen some holdouts
including Trent Williams in San Francisco,Jamar Chase, but also CD Lamb and
we will wait to see who willbudge first in this Dak Prescott contract negotiation.
(01:52):
So we played the clip from Jerrywhen he was asked why not just
sign them? It over with andsigned them and he didn't give a straight
answer the Genes Slater So this questionmore more towards the fans from the fans
is every single year and this iswhen you know, when Craig opens the
(02:13):
show, you know he says theD is for Dallas my middle name.
But you know I've given up andI'm not going to watch a single Cowboys
game this season, which I dostand by and I will accomplish. But
for most, most of the time, Cowboy fans understand this. You go
in the season and like any otherteam in the offseason, you talk yourself
into that team to win. Rightmost teams, Most teams have a shot
(02:38):
at winning whatever their championship is.Now, there's some teams going into this
year that you know probably will notcontend, like, for instance, the
Carolina Panthers. I'm sorry to myboys in seven oh four, but you
know this is just a part ofa rebuilding season for Carolina. But other
teams go in with the hope that, Okay, now we're all chasing Kansas,
(03:00):
we're all chasing San Francisco, we'reall chasing Buffalo in Baltimore and probably
Detroit and Green Bay. But youstill have hope this season and for the
most part every single year, youknew the Cowboys were going to be good,
right, You knew they were goingto be a winning football team.
The question is can they be agood enough team to finally get back to
(03:23):
the top of the mountain. Canthey get that Super Bowl ring again?
That Jerry has been searching for sincethe nineties, and so Jerry was asked,
Cowboy fans should they why should theyeven have hope this season that Dallas
can possibly get back to where theyonce were, Probably because of the way
(03:49):
we ended the season last year.I'm more about winning the award for the
best way to end the season thatI am winning the award for showing up
at camp with my house in order. I'm more worried about ending the season
that I am a fast start. You're absolutely right, I'm worried more about
(04:16):
I'm all in to having that gamecome out different the last one we played.
Now, what I will say whenI look at our roster, when
I look at where we are, when I look at the quality of our
coaching, I will say that Ilike as much or better than any time
(04:40):
how we're going to be hanging aroundthe rim so that when we get to
that game we can come out ofthere with a different result. So I
think we're very very positioned. Youhanging around the rim again, which have
to be up there and around thereto have a better result at that end.
Now, the big rush, andyou pointed out and appropriately so is
(05:02):
do you think you've got a chanceto come up with better results when you
get there. I don't want tosound though and be tried about getting there.
That's a big deal, and Ido I want you to know.
As much as you might criticize mefor it, I take a lot of
solace in the fact that we've hadthe twelve game seasons, that wins that
(05:26):
we've had over the last several years, the fact that we've got to personnel
we've got here at camp, thefact that we've got the coaches we've got
at camp. I take a lotof solace that we're going to be there
to get a chance to go tothat playoffs and do better. I'm not
so sure about that, Jerry lookingat the Cowboys schedule, and I think
(05:47):
most fans agree with me here.Everyone else in the NFC East got better.
To the Cowboys get better, thatdo not think. So. We
another schedule at Cleveland, the startgreat defense. We'll see how the Seawan
Watson looks in another season with Cleveland. Then you have the Saints. But
(06:09):
after that, this schedule really picksup. You have Baltimore at home,
you're at New York, you're atPittsburgh, you come back home for Detroit
a playoff team, by the way, So Pittsburgh's a playoff team, Baltimore
is a playoff team. Was Clevelanda playoff team last year? Andrew they
were a wild card? Right?I think so? Cam Okay, So
(06:29):
you got five of the first sixgames against playoff teams. Now make it
six of the first seven where you'replaying at San Francisco, go ahead and
chalk that up as a loss. Then you're on the road against Atlanta,
not a playoff team, but hey, they added Kirk Cousins obviously, b
Jehan Robinson and Kyle Pitts a loadedoffense. You come back home for Philadelphia
(06:50):
playoff team, Houston playoff team.So now you got eight playoff teams.
You're at Washington back home for NewYork. Cincinnati was not a play team
because of Joe Burrow's injury this pastseason, but you're home for them.
You would think they're going the mostlikely if not be obviously a Super Bowl
contender, a playoff team, andit might get a little bit easier at
(07:11):
Carolina home for Tampa Bay at Philly, and then you end the season with
Washington. But it's a very verytough schedule and back to the point about
the roster and this team being goodenough to be better to get over that
hump. With everyone else getting better, they're an injury away from a really,
really bad season. Obviously, ifyour quarterback gets injured, most of
(07:33):
the teams outside of you know,a Kyle Shanahan based offense, they're gonna
struggle. Right, But if Dallasloses CD Lamb, what's gonna happen.
If they lose Michael Parsons, what'sgonna happen? This team does not have
enough depth offensively or defensively to makeup for losing one of their stars.
(07:54):
Unfortunately this past season, Yeah, you had Trayvon Diggs getting injured, and
you had very injuries here and there, Pollard coming off the ACL, but
they're big three Micah dak cd allstayed healthy and it was not enough.
And you haven't added enough around thatroster for me to be confident in saying
that what you've done is enough toget over that hump. Last quote here,
(08:18):
actually it's already we got hit abreak here. We'll get more into
it, but a really great questionfrom Tim Kalishaw the Dallas Morning News that
I want to play for you guys. Later on, when he was asked,
he asked Jerry, and this isa great question, he asked,
Jerry. Every other team in theNFL changes their GMS, the front office
members, except for Dallas. Youknow, the end of the year is
(08:41):
always going to be Jerry and StevenJones. How is that sustainable for success?
We'll play that later on in theshow for you here on this fire
me up Friday, but up next. Ryland Kobri, the Round Rock Express,
joins us to talk a little MajorLeague baseball here on AM Sports Radio
