Speaker 3 (00:00):
Good afternoon, everybody.

Speaker 1 (00:01):
Welcome to the program here on Sports Radio AM thirteen
under the Zone. By name is Craig Waite. Thanks very
much for joining us. Glad to have you alongside. Happy
to have the producer, Cameron D. Parker at the switch
as well. That he, of course, on the birth certificate
stands for Dallas as in the name of his father's
favorite football team and his so to speak, although he

(00:23):
has pledged not to watch him this year, but he
is keeping up with what's going on with the Dallas Cowboys,
including bad news in terms of injury, and then more
conversation and more and more wonderment about what's going to
happen with unsigned players, especially as one quarterback after another

(00:43):
continues to be signed to one hundred million dollar deals
in there beyond, so that just adds to the injury.
How'd your weekend go? What good, Craig. I hope your
tripped down to Brownsville?

Speaker 3 (00:56):
What was fun?

Speaker 2 (00:57):
I'm sure we hear up, but I know you saw
some baseball, so looking for to hear hear your reviews
from that. But boy, I mean, things have not been
going well for the Cowboys out of training camp, and
I think I think Cowboys fans are finally seeing the
like Craig because from reports from reporters out there, the
fan attendance is a lot lower than it has been

(01:20):
in years past. So it seems like Cowboy fans are
kind of finally coming to a realization that this season
is chalked.

Speaker 1 (01:30):
You know, the only way, the only way anybody is
ever going to get Jerry Jones' attention is by not
buying tickets and not showing up at games, and not
buying merchandise, and you know, not paying the incredible amount
of money it takes to park at at and T
Stadium and concessions and all of that. If you don't

(01:52):
hit him where he lives in the wallet, you're probably
not going to have much of his attention. But we'll
hear a little bit from Jerry Jones coming up. We will,
and that also. The Major League Baseball trade deadline is
tomorrow evening. I believe it's at five o'clock our time,
and there's a couple of teams that have already made

(02:13):
some deals, others that have not, and there are people
wondering if they are going to make a deal. We'll
talk a little bit about that and the Olympics are underway,
and the US Olympic men's basketball team looked very impressive
in dismantling a good Serbian team that had Nicola Yolkicic
on the team. But of course the Americans had Lebron James,

(02:36):
and they had Steph Curry, and yes, Kevin Durant, who
was perfect from three point range, was perfect in the
first half.

Speaker 3 (02:46):
I thought it was interesting.

Speaker 1 (02:47):
In the first half, he scored twenty one of his
twenty three points and was seven for seven from the floor,
five for five from three point range, two for two
inside the arc, including that fade away at the end
of the first half. And they said, in Kevin Durant's
storied NBA career, he had never ever either in the

(03:07):
regular season or in the playoffs, had a first half
where he scored at least twenty points and was perfect
from the floor. And he had that yesterday. So his
first game back, he was there and he was in
full force. Now I know, there was a lot of
conversation about Jason Tatum not playing in the game. It
was kind of a weird thing. First of all, they

(03:29):
played forty minutes in international competition. She's like college basketball.
They don't played forty eight. Secondly, you max out at
ten players who can play, and it's kind of weird
to think about playing ten guys anyway in a forty
minute game. You don't really see it that often at
the college level that much. But Steve Curris said Tatum

(03:51):
will definitely play in the game against South Sudan, which
pulled a surprise beating Puerto Rico. And I think we'll
see Kevin Duran back in the starting lineup. It was
his first game back. He missed all five of the
pre Olympic tournament exhibitions and he was back on and
came off the bench.

Speaker 3 (04:11):
But I think we'll probably see him start.

Speaker 1 (04:13):
But he was pretty impressive in Lebron James looked pretty
youthful for thirty nine, especially in the second half of
that game.

Speaker 2 (04:20):
Lebron didn't look his age in that game. He had
that incredible play where he took on basically four defenders
and got to the hoop, and then Katie. It's laughable
that a reporter asked Steve Kerr about possibly benching Katie
or not playing him. He's the greatest Olympic player from
Tmusa in my lifetime. Craig I mean eight for nine

(04:41):
from the floor, five of five from beyond the three
point stripe. I mean, an incredible performance, and a lot
of it has turned into the whole Tatum story. And
as you mentioned forty minutes and also with Katie coming back,
there's not enough room for all these guys to play.
This roster is just too good, and you don't want
to have too many ballhandlers on the court at the

(05:02):
same time. That's why Derek White and Drew Holiday have
been getting playing time. So every game will be different.
I mean, when when the US plays next, maybe it's
Devin Booker who doesn't get any playing time and it's
Tatum over. It's Tatum over a book. But I mean
the way this team is set, I mean it just
Tatum does not He's not a corner three guy where
you just stick him in the corner and let him

(05:23):
shoot threees.

Speaker 3 (05:24):
That's he needs the ball in the sands.

Speaker 2 (05:25):
But with Lebron and Katie and Booker and all these
guys out there, you got to have some ball movements.
So from a basketball standpoint, it makes a lot of
sense that he didn't play. I mean, he asked the
lesson what Steve Kerr said after the game, like he
talked with Tatum and said, hey, I think it might
just work out this way, but there's gonna be games
where Tatum does play and Tatum is needed. So that's
just how it works out. But it's it's turned into

(05:48):
a bit of a non story because tim Usa played
the best game of the entire summer against Serbia.

Speaker 1 (05:53):
Yeah, Curse said, I kind of feel like an idiot
for not playing Hims. But again, it didn't work out
really well in terms of rotation and number of guys
you can play in the time and all that sort
of thing. Plus when the guy gets hot, and Kevin
was hot in the first half and just hitting shot
after shot he didn't miss. You know, what's the point
other than when it's time to get a breather, what's

(06:16):
the point even pulling him out? So but yeah, he
is said he'll definitely play against South Sudan, and I
think we'll all expect to see that. The US women's
team has just tipped off against Japan their first game.
They're up early eight to four in that one. They're
favored to win their I think it'd be eighth straight
gold medal. So that's underway and then there's other US

(06:40):
men's gymnastics, swimming and divings underway. We'll have an update
on a former Long Horns effort to try to meddle
at the Games. We'll have that coming up. And we
also have Inconceivable. We have one story and I'm gonna
get to it in the next segment. And you may

(07:02):
have heard this story by now, but on its face alone,
it would merit being an inconceivable, But there's so many
layers on it. I don't think it would do a
justice without giving some background and some detail on this,
so we'll do that coming up. Also, today is our

(07:24):
second week of giving away copies of the brand new
edition of Dave Campbell's Texas Football magazine. I've heard that
it's trickling into some stores now. Some folks are seeing
it in different places, but we've got one. We spent
an entire week giving away copies last week.

Speaker 3 (07:45):
And we're gonna do it again.

Speaker 1 (07:45):
I was out on Friday, and thanks to Cameron and
also to andrews imil for stepping in from me.

Speaker 3 (07:49):
Did you guys give away any magazine tracks? We did?

Speaker 1 (07:52):
We did, Okay, So we have one week left of
giving these magazines away and if you haven't heard how
it works.

Speaker 3 (07:58):
It's easy, but it's different.

Speaker 1 (08:00):
It's different than what we've done in the past, when
we've always just, you know, just said, hey, be the
tenth caller or the fifth caller, or the eighth caller
or the thirteen call or whatever. It requires some participation
on your part and that's it. And what the It's
not random, it's it's participation. So the way it works

(08:21):
is we have what's called the talkback feature. And what
you do is if you if you're already listening to
us on the iHeartRadio app, that's fine, that's great, you're
already equipped and ready to do this. If not, what
you want to do is download the iHeart Radio app
on your smartphone and then you'll pull up a thirteen

(08:44):
hundred zone. So you'll pull that up and you'll see
two buttons on there. One is a white one that's
just to listen to our programming, and then there's a
red one that has a white microphone on that you
push that button.

Speaker 3 (08:56):
That's the talk back feature.

Speaker 1 (08:58):
And what you do is just leave us a message
fifteen twenty twenty five seconds. Don't go over thirty it'll
cut you off. So somewhere in the fifteen between fifteen
and thirty seconds whatever, leave us a message, and what
we want to know is what you look forward to
seeing the most and reading about most when this magazine
comes out every year. The responses we've gotten are from

(09:20):
people who clearly know what this magazine is all about.
So they'll say, Hey, I'm interested in the cover story,
or I'm interested in reading the college football previews, or
a specific college football preview, maybe it's Texas whatever, But
a lot of you have also mentioned the high school
football previews, which makes perfect sense because almost half of

(09:41):
the four hundred pages in this magazine are dedicated to
previewing the upcoming high school football season, where every single
high school in the state of Texas has a capsule
in the preview. So whatever it is you're looking forward
to reading every year in the magazine, just.

Speaker 3 (09:57):
Let us know. That's all it takes.

Speaker 1 (10:00):
And we've got eight copies we're going to give away today,
so we'll give away eight copies to eight of you
messaging us on the talkback, so we'll do that. Also,
if you just want to send us a message and
you want to discuss something here you want us to
talk about something you can always text us. You text
us on our text line. You text the word Texas

(10:22):
follow by your question or comment to eight one five
three zero. So text the word Texas follow by your
question or comment to eight one five three zero. Standard
messaging and data rates may apply. We'll get to those obviously.
Give you a chance to queue up there on the talkback,
so we'll give away some copies of the magazine, and
we'll talk some more Olympics coming up, and a lot

(10:42):
more when we continue on this Monday edition here of
the Craigway Show here on sports Radio AM thirteen under
the Zone and where you always listen to us for
absolutely free, the iHeartRadio app.
