Speaker 1 (00:00):
Glad to have you with us here, third and final
hour of the program on Sports Radio AM thirteen under
the Zone Craig Way alongside the producer Cameron Parker, and
we're with you up until five o'clock.
Speaker 3 (00:10):
Hey.
Speaker 1 (00:10):
Tomorrow on the program, you'll have the opportunity to hear
from members, and I use that term plurally members, some
members of the University of Texas Longhorn football coaching staff.
(00:33):
There will be a be the availability tomorrow that we'll
be at and so you'll hear some comments from the
co offensive coordinator, the offensive line coach, associate head coach
Kyle Flood. You'll hear from the defensive coordinator Pete quick Kowski,
and the special teams coach and tight ends coach Jeff Banks.
(00:53):
You'll hear from those guys tomorrow. They'll be speaking tomorrow
so in a media availabilit So we'll have some comments
from those guys because tomorrow's reporting day. That's one of
the guys those who have not you know, as we know,
things are different nowadays in college football.
Speaker 3 (01:12):
Used to be.
Speaker 1 (01:14):
When the spring academic semester was over, the guys were
quote unquote released the summer. I was supposed to do
their own, you know, workout program or what they're working
out on their own or with friends or things of
that nature. Now you go way on back, some guys
at summer jobs and stuff like that, or just did
(01:35):
other things, and then you reported, and you reported, you know,
in early August, late July, early August, and there were
always the obligatory television shots. You'll see them again tomorrow,
by the way, for some incoming freshmen. But by and
(01:56):
large it's just started to go by the boards because
a lot of the guys are living down here year
round now. But the obligatory television shots tell me, if
you haven't seen these before camp, the luggage carts going
in and out of Jester Dorm or some of the
other things, the luggage carts with all the stuff taking
into their dorm rooms for the for the like the
incoming freshmen.
Speaker 2 (02:15):
Anyway, it'll be that seeing a lot of from the
ut official accounts where it'll be getting out of the
their car and they always have a neck pillow or
some sort of pillow because they were just sleepy on
the entire way down or their point good point.
Speaker 1 (02:32):
Yeah, absolutely, what dorm did you live in when you
lived or did you ever live in off campus. You
lived off campus the entire time, and they allowed that.
Oh yeah, I thought that you had to at least
the first year or something. I know on a lot
of colleges you had to live on campus, like in
a dorm the first year or for semester or something
like that. I guess they just don't have enough living
(02:53):
space with all of the thousands of incoming freshmen too,
to be able to house everybody if they don't, you know,
don't have enough room in the dorms or whatever.
Speaker 3 (03:03):
And you've seen it, and I've seen it as well.
Speaker 1 (03:05):
When we park in the Brasss garage two, when we
park in the Brass's garage to walk in to the
press box. Uh.
Speaker 3 (03:22):
When we do that, uh, you.
Speaker 1 (03:27):
You park and you walk in, your walk right past, uh,
Jester and what Santacino Dorm to I believe that's on
the right, I think, And you walk right past, and
you see, you know a lot of the student influx
and things like that for those who are in dorms. Uh.
So tomorrow's reporting day in that respect, But a lot
of the guys have stayed down here and then of
(03:47):
course they have a little break for it then then
come back and get ready. And so everybody reports tomorrow
and uh, we'll hear. We'll hear from members of the
coaching staff. Practice begins on Wednesday and if a few
days out of pads, and then they get into pads,
and we'll hear from head coach Cheve Sarkisian. Is the
week progressive, so circle talk after practice, I believe Wednesday
(04:08):
and Thursday of this week. So they'll start the first
few practice I guess it's PIRST five or something like that,
out of pads, and then they get into pads. So
all the regular questions will come up about the progress
of some of the newbies, the freshmen, the progress of
the guys who have elevated themselves in the starting positions
(04:30):
on either side of the football on offensive defense, and
we'll hear all of those regular questions come out because
time for all had to get going again.
Speaker 3 (04:41):
There's time for a lot of that to get going again.
Speaker 1 (04:43):
So we are just around the corner from all of
that Pro football training camps are underway. They pretty much
all got into camp last week Texans even prior to that.
Because we are a little over forty eight hours away
from the first Pro football game, actual game taking place
(05:07):
the Hall of Fame Game in Kent, Ohio on Thursday night. Yeah,
it's an exhibition. Yeah it's preseason. And yeah you're not
I don't think you're going to see c J. Stroud
out there, and like you said, what, they're not going
to see Caleb Williams out there for the Bears, doubt it.
But you'll see you may see Roshawn Johnson out there.
(05:28):
You'll see guys trying to make the team or improve
and strengthen their roster positioning as well. So and for
those of you that you know, hey, if they're dressed
up in the NFL uniforms and they're playing your watching,
I get it. Understand that. So that'll be taking place
(05:49):
on Thursday. With the Hall of Fame Game going on,
the Cowboys continue their work and training, and we're gonna
hear from Jerry Jones and also from Mike McCarthy, the
head coach coming up in a few minutes. Other than
and this is a big other, but other than Sam
Williams tearing at ACL and being out, has anything really
(06:12):
caught your attention about this Cowboys camp so far?
Speaker 2 (06:16):
I think there's been some good notes from Mike Zimmers defense,
and it sounds like his Simmers defense's philosophy a lot
different than dan Quinn. Zimmer does not like to bring blitzers.
He likes to generate pass rush from simulated blitzes. He
(06:36):
likes to have bigger linebackers, and he likes to have
bigger defensive backs. Dan Quinn liked to have more athleticism,
one of the more versatile defenders who could kind of
play different positions so far, and it's why Simmers had
great pass defenses during his time as coordinator and a coach.
And so far, from what we heard this past week
(06:58):
is Dallas secondary. UH made things very tough on Dak
made things tough on Trey Lance and Cooper Rush. I
believe there's been more interceptions than touchdowns thrown so far.
So if you're looking for some positive positive signs, it's
the Dallas DB's look to be meshing well with Mike
Simmers defense. And then on on offense, it seems like
(07:21):
the Cowboys O line actually might be a strength this year.
Tyler guyt in the first round draft who's going to
replace Uh. Tyron Smith will be out there, of course,
and Cooper Bebe is having a good camp along with
I believe with Sam Huffman is probably going to be
the starting center for Dallas this season. So heard good
things about the offensive line, but a lot of negative
(07:42):
negativity coming out of the conversations with Dak and CD
with the contracts and of course anytime Jerry opened his
mouth and then the Sam Williams news. So there is
some positive signs from Cowboys camp.
Speaker 3 (07:52):
It is out there. You just got to look for it.
Good old Cooper Rush.
Speaker 2 (07:58):
You mentioned who's actually, by the way, because I've had
people say like, oh, so, what's the plan Trey Lance. Actually,
right now, Cooper Rush is a backup quarterback. Trey Lance
is the third stream quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys. So
if you're like, hey, I'm on Trey Lance island thinking
he might replace Dak. It looked like it would be
more like Cooper Rush next year than Trey Lance if
Dak does move on, and I guess.
Speaker 1 (08:21):
We'll see quite a bit of Cooper Rush and Trey
Lance a week from Sunday when the Cowboys preseason opener
is against the Rams. At so far is that will
be the first preseason opener for the Cowboys coming up.
We'll hear, like I said, we'll hear from Jerry Jones,
we'll hear from Mike McCarthy, and we'll have some more
(08:43):
training camp notes as well when we continue on sports radio,
going him thirteen times the zone of the iHeartRadio app
