Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good afternoon, everybody, and welcome to our program here on
Sports Radio AM thirteen under the Zone. My name is
Craig Way. Glad to have you with us alongside. As always,
we're here in this radio airspace daily Monday through Friday
from two pm to five pm Central daylight time, Central
Standard Time, when we're not in daylight Saving time, but
(00:21):
here we are in Central Time. I'm glad to have
you with us. Also, please to be joined. That's where
the wee part comes in with the producer of the program,
Cameron D.
Speaker 2 (00:31):
Parker.
Speaker 1 (00:31):
The D on the birth certificate stands for Dallas, as
in his favorite pro football team that he is so
frustratingly refused or said that he will not watch this fall.
Speaker 2 (00:41):
We'll see how all of that goes.
Speaker 1 (00:43):
Hey, first preseason game is coming up a week from
Sunday in Los Angeles against the Rams. Nothing else going
on on a quiet Sunday afternoon, But you won't be watching,
uh preson game. Yeah, maybe we'll see. I'll be actually
in Florida help my mom out.
Speaker 3 (01:00):
So I would like to be either on the beach,
on a golf course, or somewhere near some waters.
Speaker 2 (01:07):
Okay, we'll see.
Speaker 3 (01:08):
Because it's a preseason games, so it doesn't really count.
So you know, maybe I'll tune in to see how
bad Trey Lance looks.
Speaker 1 (01:15):
But okay, now that's not this weekend is following, following Wigan, Okay,
following some plenty of time.
Speaker 2 (01:20):
Yeah, you had time to consider that.
Speaker 1 (01:21):
Okay, all right, Cam will be out what the rest
of this week starting tomorro Yeah, about a week will
be out? Okay, I hope. But his mom move and
so that's that's a cool thing. So, by the way,
who's coming in here?
Speaker 2 (01:33):
Is it Cold? Yes? Cold Dixon? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (01:36):
All right, so the sixth man, Cole Dixon'll be in
starting tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (01:43):
Anyway.
Speaker 1 (01:44):
Much to discuss on the program today. First of all,
major League Baseball trade deadline approaches, and we're inside three
hours until the deadline actually hits. There have been some moves,
some a little more headline grabbing than others. In fact,
(02:08):
I would say most of the deals that have been
done are not real eye poppers most but Chisholm to
the Yankees is important. I think Hora Selaire going back
to the Braves might be something. It'd be interesting to
see how this Astros deal breaks down and how it
(02:29):
works out. The early returns from fans were not. They're not,
and they weren't real happy about that deal. So we'll
talk about that coming up, but we'll see if some
other deals might be in the offing. Hey, a little
spark of life of the Rangers. They win last night
(02:50):
while the Mariners were getting clubbed by the Red Sox,
and then and I was watching a lot of Astro's
Pirates last night because Paul Skeins was on the map
for Pittsburgh. He wasn't exactly lights out. I thought the
Astro hitters adjusted on pretty well. They scored a couple
of runs off of them six and an arrow was
a big part of it, but one of the runs
(03:12):
was earned.
Speaker 2 (03:13):
But then the Astros bullpen blew.
Speaker 1 (03:14):
Up and a three run homer of the ninth, top
of the ninth was the difference. So the Pirates, who
were down to nothing in that game, came back to win.
So the Astros loss, the Mariner's loss, the Rangers won,
So they're back within three and a half now of
the top spot there in the American League West. So
(03:36):
that thing's going to be going on for a while.
That that race, I think probably all the way down
into the final week. It could be any two or
all three of those teams involved in that race by
the time all of a sudden done. The Mariners certainly
are are trying to help themselves out prior to the
trade deadline, and then apparently the Astros are as well.
(03:58):
So we'll get we'll get thoughts on that, will take
a look at that. The Olympics continue, and no big
surprise that the US women's gymnastics team finished the job
today to win the all around gold. I hope I'm
not suppoiling it for you if you were planning to
(04:19):
watch that they're going to repeat it. But I think
or it is out pretty well that Simone Biles and
the US did win the women's team gymnastics gold medal
in Paris, as they called it the Redemption Tour. Biles
was really good, the Americans well clear of Italy and Brazil,
(04:42):
so they ended up winning, and we'll talk more about
that and.
Speaker 2 (04:47):
Some other stuff.
Speaker 1 (04:48):
There's also another American women's team that really was kind
of an inspirational story today and we'll get to that
as well. The tennis goes on and Cocoa golf lost
today and it was kind of weird because she got beat.
Speaker 2 (05:15):
Yeah, it was. It was really weird. Is when she
got beat.
Speaker 1 (05:21):
On the same court there in Paris at Roland Garros,
the main stadium at the French Open, where she got
knocked out by Igoswai attack in the semifinals, and it
was a controversial lines call, line call, same thing happened
to day now. She lost in straight sets today, but
(05:43):
the line call gave not avickage of Croatia Ty gave
her a service break in the second set. So golf
got really upset. She was in tears, all that, all
that sort of stuff, but she's out. So she got
knocked out out there at Paris. Then, in addition to that,
(06:09):
there is football to discuss, because today is reporting day.
Longhorn football players reporting and practicing beginning tomorrow. And we
got a chance through a media availability today over on
campus to hear from Loghorn's co offensive coordinator, offensive line
(06:30):
coach Kyle Flood, also from defensive coordinator Pete Kakowski, and
then after p K afterwards from Jeff Banks, a special
teams coach, and the and tight ends coach. And we'll
hear comments from those guys from that media availability, and
(06:50):
it's it's kind of been a little bit of I
wouldn't say a joking reference, but a chuckle reference to
the fact where because somebody said some to PK was
done like thanks, see you next year, because it's the
one media availability that those guys get outside of Bowl
(07:13):
game press conferences, because bowl game press conferences dictate that
the coordinators must be made available to the media during
the course of the week. So but somebody made that
comment to see you next year or something like that
when I get done. But we'll hear comments from Longhorn
assistant coaches as well. We have Inconceivable today, and Inconceivable
(07:40):
has some of its usual type of offerings. But also,
like I said, there's a unique story about a US
Olympic team and another Olympic based story. I guess that
kind of figured out that during the Olympics there would
be at least one, if not more stories almost daily
(08:03):
during the sport night of the Olympiad that will creep
into Inconceivable because it kind of fits. So we've got
a couple of those things to get to as well,
and then there's some bizarre other stories that we'll get
to as well. NFL training camps continue I'm reading more
(08:26):
and more every day Cameron about how teams are continuing
to get contracts done with players and the Cowboys are
continuing to watch everybody else get contracts done with players
while they don't get done with contracts with players. We
heard from Jerry Jones at length yesterday and his philosophy
about that, and the other day we heard about it
(08:48):
as well, about the ambiguity thing, and he was I
think also being saying that I'm willing to sit around
and wait. Would he compared himself to an option based
quarterback yesterday.
Speaker 3 (09:01):
He said, with an option based quarterback, I'll hold on
to it longer than others. I won't make that pitch until,
like I make.
Speaker 2 (09:10):
The turn sideline or so.
Speaker 3 (09:12):
Then he's like, just like Patrick Mahomes. And then he chuckled,
and then I think the rest of the media just
gassed at what a ludicrous statement that was, Jerry Jones
comparing himself to the best quarterback in the NFL at
the moment.
Speaker 2 (09:24):
But some great Jerry Jones. They both won three Super Bowls.
Speaker 3 (09:28):
They have they have just one of those that's in
my lifetime and the other has not.
Speaker 1 (09:34):
Yeah, that's true, that's true. All right, So those are
some of the topics. Then two other things to remind
you of. As always, if you like to join in
the conversation, it's a couple of ways to do it. One,
you can text us if you like the Texas, you
can text us on the text line. You text the
word texas follow by your question or comment to eight
(09:56):
one five three zero.
Speaker 2 (09:58):
That's the that's the text number to go to.
Speaker 1 (10:01):
So text, but you got to text the word texas
follow by your question to eight one five three zero.
Standard messaging and data h may apply. Now there's another
way you can reach this as well. It's our talkback feature,
and we've been talking about this a lot lately because
it's directly tied to a giveaway, which I'll get.
Speaker 2 (10:19):
To in a moment.
Speaker 1 (10:20):
But if you want to leave us a message that
has contained in it your actual voice, we're happy to
hear from you. All you have to do is take
your iPhone, your smartphone, whatever you want to, whatever you have,
whether it's an iPhone or a Android, whatever it might be,
(10:41):
and download the free iHeart Radio app if you haven't
already a lot of people have listened to us on
the app, and that's cool.
Speaker 2 (10:50):
But if you.
Speaker 1 (10:51):
Haven't already download, you can download it. It's free. Then
pull up our station AM thirteen hundred zone. And for
those of you watching on YouTube, the's two buttons. One
where you just push the button to listen to our show,
and then there's another one that's a red button with
a white microphone in there, and you press that, and
that's the talk back feature, and you can leave us
a message fifteen twenty twenty five seconds. Don't go over
(11:13):
thirty it'll cut you off. But somewhere in that fifteen
to thirty second range, if you want to want to
leave us a message with a question, you can do that,
and there's added incentive to do that.
Speaker 2 (11:22):
And that's the.
Speaker 1 (11:22):
Brand new edition of Dave Campbell's Texas Football Magazine. We're
giving away copies of this magazine. I've been giving away
these copies since nineteen ninety eight and all the way
up through last year when we've given away the copies
unless we were at a remote on location where we
handed them out. The way we've done it is always
to give them away on the air, say to the
(11:43):
fifth caller or tenth caller or eight caller or whatever.
We're doing it a little bit different. This requires some
participation on your part, but it's easy. Do what we
just said on the iHeartRadio app, got AM thirteen under
the zone on there and then push that microphone. Let
them leave us a message. Tell us what you like
(12:04):
about the magazine or what you look forward to the
most about the release of Dave Campbell's Texas Football magazine.
It is, after all, called the Bible of football in Texas,
four hundred pages. Yet again, maybe you like the cover
story every year. This year, of course it's Quinn you
weers of Texas and kind of we'vemen of Texas A
and M headlining rivalry reborn about Texas and Texas A
(12:25):
and M. Maybe it's the other college previews. There's a
page there on Houston, the Big twelve, the SEC, the
ACC with SMU in there, now small colleges, and then
almost half of the magazine is the high school football
previews of every high school team in the state. So
maybe that strikes your fancy. Whatever it is, let us
know on the talkback feature. That's all you have to do,
(12:46):
and you're going to get a copy of the magazine,
at least if you're one of ten today we're giving
away ten copies of the magazine we've been We did
it all last week, and we're doing it again this week.
Speaker 2 (12:55):
Ten copies today.
Speaker 1 (12:57):
If you reach us via the talk back, reach us
on the talk back and tell us what you look
forward to most about receiving the magazine every year. All Right,
we're gonna hear from Texas assistant coaches coming up. We'll
get to your questions and more when we continue on
a Tuesday afternoon on Sports Radio AM thirteen under the
Zone in the iHeartRadio app
