Speaker 1 (00:00):
Kim did send us a picture, but he got off
the plane in Florida. Uh, he sent us a picture
from a BUCkies and he said greetings from Daytona Beach.
So he was there in joining a stop at Bucket.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
You like BUCkies, Big Bucky's guy all my Christmas shopping
every year.

Speaker 1 (00:27):
Well here you go. Uh when you go by, let's
just say you're not doing any of the Christmas shop
you go about what's your go to item there? BUCkies?

Speaker 2 (00:36):
I like the Bucket Nuggets, the beaver nuggets over nuggets, Yeah, yeah,
and the pulled pork sandwich.

Speaker 1 (00:42):
Yeah. Yeah, that's that's a good that's a good call there.
And I also like my wife and I have grown
fond of the dark chocolate covered raisin. I can get
down with that. Yeah, yeah, those are those are pretty
good as well. So you know, BUCkies continues to grow

(01:03):
and get larger and build bigger and larger locations. On
the way down to Brownsville to see my grandson swim
at the Texas State Games the Ta Dola he qualified
in two events, went down there last Friday. We had
plans I emphasized the word plans, and had planned to

(01:27):
stop at the world's largest BUCkies, the newer one in
Lulin right there off High ten if you go down there,
and we got hit with massive downpours and then we say, yeah,
it's gonna let's just and we ended up diverting to
Terry Blacks and Lockhart and picking up our r sandwiched
to go. So certainly nothing wrong with that. But my

(01:48):
daughter and son in law who have my four grandchildren
ranging ages from eight to six for the two boys
and then four and three for the two girls, that's
a Bucki's family. They're all about BUCkies. They're they're they're
the family you see when you pull in the BUCkies.
Then they have they have like a bunch of little

(02:09):
rug rats. They have these little kids that are taking
pictures around the Bucky statue, you know, the beaver statue
and all this stuff. Yeah, that's my kid, that's my
uh my grandkids there they do that thing. Well. It
kind of became a stopping point for them because when
they drove to North Carolina when we were when we
were there on vacation, they came to see us there

(02:31):
at the house at the beach. Uh, they stopped, let's
see the BUCkies of Terrell there east of Dallas. Then
they stopped the next one I think was in Leeds, Alabama.
They stopped at then in Florence, South Carolina, So they
did that as well. So they're they're definitely a Bucki's family. Well,
they went to the one in Losing pouring rain notwithstanding,

(02:56):
and what they said was the most difficult part was
waiting the nearly twenty minutes to pull into the parking
lot because the line outside was what was on. Once
it got in, they said it was great because it's
huge and you could you could tell it's eighty thousand
square feet, but the getting in to the BUCkies was
the challenge.

Speaker 2 (03:14):
At what point do you just move on and say
we'll come back another time.

Speaker 1 (03:17):
Yeah, that was us. That was Lyndon myself able to
hit it another time. So so anyway, they did that.
And what my daughter says though, and I think we
can all kind of agree with this, we all kind
of nod our heads. She says, the thing the thing
that she likes best about BUCkies how clean The restrooms.

Speaker 2 (03:40):
Are probably the best restrooms out of any convenience story.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
Ye've been to the cleanest? Yeah for sure, Yeah, Sparkling,
they really are. And they take a lot of pride
in that, so so that that kind of keeps people
coming in for no other reason to hit the bathroom,
you know, to do that because you know it's gonna
be nice and clean of anyway. So that's uh, yeah,
that's what they did there with that. But BUCkies is

(04:07):
a is a big thing for a lot of folks
obviously to hit that, uh, to get something specific that
they may like be at the beaver nuggets or the
barbecue sandwich, or a huge cup of coffee or like
I said, dark chocolate covered rays and so the old
school candies that are in there. Like we also got
a bag of cherry sours. Cherry sours.

Speaker 2 (04:30):
Have you had those roasted almonds with the cinnamon on?

Speaker 1 (04:33):
Yeah? Yeah, yeah, yeah, go by there and pick those up.
I even like it. I like the almonds, like the penis.
The cashew's are my favorites. Oh that's good.

Speaker 2 (04:41):
Every time my mom and her husband come in town,
I'm always taking to BUCkies because he's a big beef
turkey guy loves it.

Speaker 1 (04:45):
Oh well he's in beef turkey evan. Yeah. I go.

Speaker 2 (04:48):
He's like, you know where to find me, I'll be
over there.

Speaker 1 (04:50):
I'll be over at the beef turkey a lot. Okay,
all right, that makes sense. Major League Baseball finished up
it's trade deadline and they came away. And there have
been various and sundry rating systems, and I've kind of
hold them all, or at least the major ones like

(05:12):
ESPN and MLB and also the Athletic which kind of
split the difference really between MLB and the ESPN. So
what Jim Bowden, a former Major League Baseball general manager himself,
wrote a piece. And when he wrote his piece, the

(05:34):
headline was MLB Trade deadline grades for all thirty teams.
Savvy sellers, bold buyers get high marks. So Bowden said,
the sellers are the ones who really stole the show.
The Miami Marlins Tampa Bay Rays absolutely crushed the deadline,
revamping the farm system with trade after trade of veteran
players that brought back big returns in terms of contending teams.

(05:57):
The Mariners, Padres, Phillies and Yankees led the way, making
significant trades that improved their chances of winning their divisions
and doing damage in the postseason. This year's mark had
had few clear sellers, which led to steep asking prices.
But there were teams on both sides of the trade spectrum,
from savvy sellers to bold buyers whose deadline dealings graded

(06:21):
out well. And so he said that it was his
opinion on it, but he went through it, and here
were the grades he gave. For example, Baltimore Orioles, who
were very very active, gave him a B plus, Boston
Red Sox C plus, Yankees A minus. Remembery, they picked
up Jazz Chishub, he said, three home runs in four games,
I think since being acquired, got Mark Ler Junior from

(06:43):
the Cubs. Off of that A minus for them. Tampa
Bay Ray's basically had a fire sale. They dump just
by everyboy and got an a. Toronto Blue Jays B plus.
They also they picked up, of course in that trade.
Of the Astros, they got Jake Bloss, Joey Loop, Puffdo,
and Will Wagon are all for Yusai Kikuchi, and the
Astros drew some raised eyebrows for giving up that much

(07:07):
to get Kakuchi. Blue Jays were graded at B plus
in the central of the White Sox, who practically unloaded
their entire roster, were given a D a d. His takeaways.
The White Socks didn't get enough quality or quantity of
prospects in their three way trade that shipped Derek Fetti,
Tommy fam and Michael Kopak to the National League the
Dodgers with a team that picked up Copak. He said

(07:31):
the emphasis on middle infielders instead of pitching prospects in
trade returns was head scratching. Guardians. He gave a B,
Tigers a D. And of course the Tigers had that
late deal when you know, when they made the big
trade sending Jack Clarity to the to the Dodgers. They

(07:54):
kept Trique Scuball and did not trade him, but they
said their trade return for Jack Claerity was awful. They
just didn't get enough back in the dealm Perhaps waiting
till the last minute, heard he had. Dodgers only gave
him a couple of let's just say, below the top
tier of their minor league prospects. For that. Royal's got
a B grade, the Twins a C minus. In the

(08:16):
West Astros a C C. So the Astros landed. The
Veterans started. They were focused on acquiring when they traded
for you say, Kakuci, but they overpaid in the process.
Kacuci had a six eight six e Ari in June,
in the sixty five nine in July, that is concerning
in trading that trio of prospects Jake Bloss, Joey Lo Perfito,

(08:37):
and Will Wagner, I would have preferred to acquire Tiger's
riding Jack Flaerty, who eventually was traded to the Dodgers
for much less than what the Astros traded for Kakuchi.
Angel's got to be, A's got to be minus Mariner's
got an ah, you know, picking up Randy rose Arena
from the Rays, they got Justin Turner and cash from
the Blue Jays. They got Jimmy Garcia from the Jay's JT.

(09:00):
Schagua from the Marlins. They traded Dallas Kichel to the
Brewers for cash U so that they got an A
Rangers C, just like the Astros a C. So the
Rangers' best moves at the trade deadline and in the
days to come simply to reinstate players coming off the
injured list, Jacob de Gram, Taylor Maley, Cody Bradford, and

(09:23):
Josh Young, among others, the latter who just returned. He said,
I like the trade to improve their catching depth with
Carson Kelly and ending and adding Andrew Chaffin to the
bullpen was a plus, but they weren't able to get
the bench bat they were looking for. In the National League,
the Braves got a C plus the Marlins and A
with everything they unloaded and got back Mets with a

(09:45):
C plus, Phillies with A name minus Nationals with a
B on that. So that was in the National League,
and like I said, a C plus for the Braves,
who were roundly kind of panned all the way around.
In the Central Cubs a B minus, Reds with a C,

(10:05):
Brewers of B minus, Pirates a B minus, Cardinals B plus.
In the West Diamondbacks B minus, Rockies D, Dodgers B
and podres an A. Giants a D. You're a Giants fan,
That's right. I just remember that. That's what he said

(10:27):
about the Giants. He said the Giants reduced their future
financial exposure. In other words, they save money by trading
Hora Selaier and Alex Copp, but they didn't do much
to improve their chances of making the playoffs this year
outside of bringing in left handed reliever Tyler Matzk and
right handed hitter Mark Kenna, who has power and can
draw walks coming off the bench. They listened on Blake Snell,

(10:50):
but that's all they did. They now have to hope
that Snell and Robbie Ray can perform like the Cy
Young Award winners they've been in the past, and along
with the rest of the staff, just try to pint
pitch them into the postseason. I just questioned, if this
offense is good enough to get them there? Are you
an agreement with Jim Bowden on that.

Speaker 2 (11:09):
I was so disappointed. It's either you got to buy
or sell. Let us know what your direction is. Yeah,
that's fine, don't equivocate. Yeah, exactly. So a lot of
my friends back in the in the Bay Area who
work in media, I was listening to them and they
are just like, far on, you've got to give us
a direction. We're kind of just in the middle. I'm
not really sure what's going on, but they could have

(11:29):
got probably a decent little uh probably a decent trade
for Snell at least, but uh, I mean, Mark Hanna,
nothing right home about And I'm just disappointed.

Speaker 1 (11:41):
Yeah, I got you. Yeah, as the grade would be
fit the mood. I'm sure all right. Coming up next week,
you're more from Long Worn football coaches. Today is the
first day they're on the field right now. They started
about forty five minutes ago. They're on the field first
practice of the Paul Campborg Outs for two access. We'll
talk some long worn football next on sports Radio AM thirteen,
