Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good afternoon, everybody. Welcome to the program here on Sports

(00:02):
Radio AM thirteen under the Zone. My name is Craig Way.
Thank you very much for joining us. Glad to have
you alongside our regular producer.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
Cameron D.

Speaker 1 (00:11):
Parker is on quasi vacation. He's in Florida helping his mom. Relokay,
we did see Cameron's face today though, because we had
a meeting about football. We are, after all, drawing closer
to that, and so he was joining us on teams.
So we were doing that obviously. With Cam out, that
means we have the six man of the year, the

(00:32):
guy on the desk, and that's Cole Dixon.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
How you doing today, CD? Doing well? How are you good? Good?

Speaker 1 (00:38):
You were talking about you being the full time educator
that you are. You are drawing closer to the start
of a brand new school year over Dripping Springs High School. Correct, Yes, sir, Yeah,
what twelve days now or something like that.

Speaker 2 (00:52):
Okay, home stretch, I'm ready to go back, Okay, ready.
You know it's really funny if.

Speaker 1 (00:59):
One of my favorite times a year obviously is the summertime,
because it's the one time I take vacation, like getting
away and all that kind of stuff. However, by the
end of the summer, Yeah, by the time you get
on into August, and today is the first day of August,
you kind of start getting that itch a little bit
and you're ready for You're certainly ready for cooler temperatures,
which aren't going to happen for a little while.

Speaker 2 (01:20):
Yet, but you are more.

Speaker 1 (01:23):
Ready for the start of football season. That's what that
meeting was. That we had a football crew meeting, if
you will, for all of us here at sports Radio
AM thirteen under the Zone map about our plan what
would be doing with our long WRN game day coverage.
It's going to be an awful lot of fun where
we'll have our local pregame on our Long Worn game

(01:44):
day coverage two hours prior to kick, and then of
course the network pre game is one hour prior to kick.
Going to have a lot of fun with big names
on it, and excited to have that coming. So we
were doing some planning and talking about that sort of thing.
Speaking of football, as we talked about yesterday on the program,
Yesterday was the first day of fall camp workouts, training

(02:08):
camp workouts for the Long Corn football team, and so
the guys were on the practice field for a little
over two hours, and long wrn's head coach Steve Sarkisian
spoke with the media after the practice, and I mentioned
yesterday that because it was happening well after our time

(02:29):
on the air here was done, that we would bring
you some of those comments today because today as we
are on the air with you, they're going into practice
number two. So practice number two begins this afternoon. There

(02:49):
will be some more conversation coming out of that, but anyway,
we'll hear from sark some comments from long wrn's head
coach Steve Sarkisian coming up here in a little bit.
We have inconceivable this hour, obviously the things that are
just kind of weird about the world and all that
kind of stuff, and so we've got some of that
as well. We'll keep you updated on the Olympics. Spoiler alert,

(03:13):
Simone Biles has done it again. But well, we'll give
you more details on that coming up. In the four
o'clock hour. We'll talk some baseball with a good friend,
Jean watching from the Chicago White Sox front office, kind
of recapping the trade deadline action that sort of thing,
and where teams are going from there. And Gino's involved

(03:35):
in another endeavor that's really really cool, and I'm going
to ask him about that as well. And then, as
I mentioned what we've been doing last week and all
this week, who's been giving away copies of Dave Campbell's
Texas Football magazine. For those of you are watching on
YouTube right now, you're seeing me hold up the magazine
like I always do. The magazine is just now popping

(03:58):
up at stores around the area. If you want to
spend counting tax to fifteen dollars for it, that's great
and certainly worth every penny at.

Speaker 2 (04:04):
That, but you have an opportunity to get a copy for.

Speaker 1 (04:06):
Free from us, and it's really easy to do. We've
had a steady stream of people doing this every day.
In fact, our Fearless Leader, our program director, Terry Fox,
said he met three people today who were coming by
to pick up the copies that they had won, and
he said, I didn't realize what a phenomenon that was.

(04:27):
And our VP in the building, Jason McCollums, said he
had no idea, and I was like, it's like going
to a crusade back years ago and handing out bibles,
you know, because the kidding nickname for this would be
the Bible of Football in the state of Texas all

(04:49):
levels college to all levels of college and all levels
of high school football. This is the pre eminent choice
for that. And it's really easy to win a copy,
very very easy to win a copy. It does require
a little bit of participation on your part, more than
just in the past when we would have you call
and be a random caller, then you had to be
lucky enough to be the random caller who got in

(05:11):
as well. This you can get one just by participating.
And this is how it works. On your iPhone or
Android whatever. If you have the iHeartRadio app, maybe you
listen to the program like many many do.

Speaker 2 (05:27):
Through the iHeartRadio app. That's great.

Speaker 1 (05:29):
If you don't have it, just download it and that's
what looks like. It's read with that iHeart logo. It's
absolutely free. There's no charge or you're not hooked in
other things. This is a free thing. You just load
it on your phone and then in your search you
just pull up a thirteen under the zone. It comes up.
It's real easy. Then there's two buttons. There's a white button,

(05:50):
a red button, a white button. If you just push
that white button. You'll hear what's going on on the
air at the time, Like this program. The red button
has a little white microphone in the middle of it.
You push that button, that's our talk back feature. And
then you just leave us a message fifteen twenty seconds
twenty five said don't over at thirty because it'll cut
you off.

Speaker 2 (06:08):
But if you go fifteen twenty twenty.

Speaker 1 (06:10):
Five seconds, tell us what you like about the magazine
or what what you look forward to the most reading
in Dave Campbell's Texas Football magazine the you know, maybe
it's the cover story this year. The title is Rivalry Reborn.
It's got Quinn Ewers of Texas and knnor Wigman of Texas,
A and M the opposing quarterbacks on the front cover.

(06:31):
It's got that. Maybe you like reading the cover story.
Maybe you enjoy reading about the individual team capsules. They
just randomly, Oh there's one on you tap in there,
here's one on SMU. They've got all the conferences that
all of the college football teams in the state of
Texas are in, all of them. If you're a fan
of Southwestern University up in Georgetown, they have a Southern

(06:51):
Athletic Association preview in there, the conference that they're in,
Mary hardin Baylor, the American Southwest Conference, Junior College Division three,
Division two fbs fcs, all of that and taking up
almost half of the magazine. The high school section as well,
where every high school program in the state of Texas

(07:11):
is preview. It truly gets you ready for the start
of the year. And that's all you have to do
is ask for when we're giving away ten copies today
and we're gonna give away more tomorrow our last day.
We did it all last week and we've been doing
it all this were giving away copies of Dave Campbells
Texas Football Magazine. So just leave us a message on
the talk back feature there just am thirteen under the zone.

(07:33):
You pull it up on the iHeartRadio app, which is
free to download. Just leave us a message. That's it,
and you're gonna win a copy of the magazine. So
that's really cool. We'll do that and by the way,
tomorrow on the program, Greg Tepper, who's the managing editor
of Dave Campbell's Texas Football Magazine, joins us each week
and we talked football last couple of weeks. For those

(07:53):
of you really into the high school side of things.
We have done a preview of Conference six A and
then Class five A TEP will join us tomorrow. We'll
do a four A preview, So those of you follow
Wimberley among other LBJ dropping back down the four A,
you'll definitely want to be tuned in for that when
we have that preview tomorrow. So a lot of stuff

(08:14):
to get to on the program. Will do that this afternoon.
Will also if you want to text us with a
question you get a question or a comment, really easy
to do that. All you have to do is text
the word Texas follow by your question or a.

Speaker 2 (08:30):
Comment to eight one five three zero. That's it.

Speaker 1 (08:35):
Just text the word Texas and then hey, I think
Georgia is overrated, They're not going to win or whatever.
Or do you think that Missouri is the dark horse
in the SEC, or who's the favorite in twenty six
six A Westlake or Lake Travis. Whatever your question is
or comment, your thought. It doesn't even have to be football,

(08:55):
I mean baseball or Olympics or whatever you want to
weigh in with. Just text it to our text line.
Text the word Texas followed by your question or comment
to eight one five three zero standard messaging and data
rates may apply, all right. Coming up next, we're gonna
hear from Logorns Hit football coach Steve Sarkeesian his thoughts
on the opening of practice and what they're looking for

(09:17):
and what they're seeing even at this very very early
stage of fall camp practices. We'll get to that coming
up next when we continue here on sports Radio AM
thirteen under the zone of the iHeartRadio app.
