Speaker 1 (00:00):
Scotti.
Speaker 2 (00:00):
Scheffler arrived at Memphis because the FedEx Saint Jude Championship,
the three event playoffs starts today.
Speaker 1 (00:11):
And uh, he was a little salty today.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
Did you see his comments about about the about the
And I don't know that I disagree with him. In fact,
I don't think I do disagree with him. But he
doesn't like the playoff format. He said, Uh, I've talked
about it the last few years. I think it's silly,
that's what he said. I think it's silly. You can't
call it a season long race and have it come
(00:34):
down to one tournament. Hypothetically, we get to east Lake,
that's the last one. Uh what that's in Florida, the
last Atlanta, Atlanta. All right, Hypothetically we get to east
Lake and my neck flares up and it doesn't heal
the way it did at the Players. I finished thirtieth
in the FedEx Cup because I had to withdraw from
the last tournament.
Speaker 1 (00:55):
Is that really the season long race? No?
Speaker 2 (00:57):
It is what it is. So Roy McRoy says he
likes the format. He said, I love this format because
if it wasn't this format, then none of us would
have a chance against Scotty because he's so far ahead.
Speaker 1 (01:08):
So I really liked this format.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
So he did acknowledge that the Tour Championship probably isn't
the fairest way to determine a season long championship, but
saying if you can't play in the in the Tour Championship,
you know that's them's the rules.
Speaker 3 (01:26):
Unfortunately, Scotty's right. It's the same issue that the NASCAR has.
And I bet if you asked your brother, hey, do
you prefer the old way of crowning a NASCAR champion
or this new playoff, most people, most purests, will say
the best way to find out who is actually the
best driver, the best golfer is by doing a season long,
(01:48):
season long standings where you don't have playoffs like they
used to do with the money List and now of course,
But but I mean, I understand why the Tour NASCAR
does it is you want to keep viewers interested.
Speaker 2 (01:59):
Because you have the driver championship decided three weeks before
it's done.
Speaker 1 (02:02):
Who's going to watch his last three races?
Speaker 3 (02:04):
Yeah, and Scotty pretty much had this locked up in
probably May, maybe even before that. He has I don't know,
off the top of my head, but I know he's
in first place. You have Xander behind him about like
two thousand points behind, maybe about one thousand, and.
Speaker 1 (02:19):
In third place, who is Rory.
Speaker 3 (02:21):
Rory is more than double the points behind Scotty Scheffler
going into this the playoffs. That's how big of a
lead Scotty Scheffler has. So, you know, can you argue
that he should already be the champion, then it's not
fair to do it this way. Yeah, Scotty's got a point,
But if you want to keep viewers interested and make
people care about the last event of the year, then
(02:41):
you need to have some sort of playoff format like
NASCAR does and like the FedEx Cup. But I agree,
the FedEx Cup is probably one of the most stupidest
postseason formats and all the professional sports.
Speaker 1 (02:54):
Okay, it's it's just a disgrace.
Speaker 2 (02:56):
I would like to see it modified to the point
where basically all he with this kind of a prolific lead,
pretty much all he has to do is make the cuts,
finish the tournament and he's and he's got it. When
I wouldn't want it to be so heavily weighted on
the tour championship that, you know, that that if he
(03:19):
if he didn't play in it, or or you know,
or if he finished down in the standings, just in
that last tournament he gets wiped.
Speaker 3 (03:26):
Out, and I don't know there even is a format, Yeah,
that that's going to get people interested because most people
right now in the game of golf, they care about
the four majors and that's about it. Even with the
live golf tournament. You know, no one's really going to
cure about the live final tournaments. They're how they decide,
uh A team winner. I mean, it's just kind of
one of those things. But the current format, it's not great.
(03:48):
The old format was not great. You know, we're just
old men, you know, yelling from the.
Speaker 2 (03:52):
Cloud, yelling at the cloud and shaking our fists at
the clouds. Uh, quinn yours puts the ball through the
clouds and uh in hearing from the Lawgorn's quarterback. Among
the things that he's trying to get better at is
stepping up into the pocket, stepping through the pocket, making
whatever foot work adjustments he needs to make.
Speaker 4 (04:11):
Definitely has been a big point of emphasis, especially in dropback.
I you know, I kind of made it muscle memory
and play action, but it was more so in drawback
that I was struggling with stepping up.
Speaker 1 (04:22):
And I think this this camp has been has been
great for me.
Speaker 4 (04:27):
And ultimately I've been been able to to step up
more and you know again make it more like a
muscle memory type thing and drop back, and I mean
that just gives me more time and you know, less
chance of you know, a sack fumble and me trying
to right away from all these other guys coming at me.
Speaker 2 (04:45):
You heard me mention this in the first hour of
the program and the second hour, last hour, and I'll
mention it again, the progress that Sidelas Bolden, the transfer
from Oregon State, has made. And remember he was not
here in the spring. So oh he talked about the
passion he has for the game. So was there a
moment when Quinn realized how much passion for the game
(05:07):
silas bowling hands.
Speaker 4 (05:09):
There's a lot of stories I could tell, I mean,
but I think the biggest thing consistently that I see
from him, it's just his excitement whenever he makes a play,
and even whenever his teammates make a play. You know,
we had we had one score a touchdown in red
zone lockout, which is like a little competition drill that
we do offense versus defense, and in one scored it
(05:29):
was the it was the red zone lockout winning touchdown,
and you know, Silas ran over to him and it's
like jumping on him and just firing him up. But
I mean, it's it's stuff like that that you see
and you just you love to see things like that.
Whenever you know Sialace didn't get the ball, he didn't
need to go over there and celebrate with Wan, but
you know he does that, and it's those types of
things that really really fire you up.
Speaker 2 (05:50):
Yeah, one being one Davis of course of Ti Dan
speaking of the tight end what about that tight end room.
Speaker 1 (05:55):
I mean, yeah, there's depth in that room, for sure.
Speaker 4 (05:56):
There's all those guys are capable of playing, and I'm
not worried about that room at all. They all can
put their hand in the dirt and go block somebody,
or they can release out for routes and have explosive
pass plays. I mean, that room is is good and
they're in good hands with Coach Banks. I know Coach
Banks has them rolling every day. So that room they're
(06:17):
they're gonna be, They're gonna be a room to watch
for sure.
Speaker 2 (06:19):
All Right, I'm here to say it on the record here,
I've already the the most wearied question that I think
the most exhausted question is Quinn yours has a leader?
What kind of leader is he? How is he developed
a leader? Is he gotten better as a leader? How
did he work on becoming a better leader? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (06:38):
At the quarterback position, I really don't have a choice
but to be, you know, a leader of this team.
That's just kind of the shoes that I have to wear.
And you know, I had to learn that, and for sure,
it didn't come easy for me at first. I had
to I had to learn ways to get to my
teammates and kind of find ways to be able to
you know, fire them up and kind of figure out
what makes them tick. And I think that's been the
(06:58):
biggest thing for me, is just the relationships that I've
built that have helped me.
Speaker 1 (07:04):
Become a better leader for the team.
Speaker 2 (07:07):
Okay, here it is He's a better leader, bigger, faster, stronger,
better in terms.
Speaker 1 (07:13):
Of being the leader of those football team.
Speaker 2 (07:15):
We'll be back to wrap up today's program here on
sports Radio AM thirteen under the Zone.
