Speaker 1 (00:00):
We opened up the second hour of the program on
this Friday afternoon with a reminder of something I don't
normally do this and like at the top of an
hour at the start off an hour, but just for
the sake of doing it differently this time, because I
do I like variety in a lot of.

Speaker 2 (00:19):
The things we do, including contesting.

Speaker 1 (00:22):
That I'll open up the second hour by doing this
a reminder that you could wind up winning a pair
of tickets to Batfest twenty twenty four and that'll be
going on on September seventh at the Congress Avenue, Bridge

(00:46):
and the artists include ghost Land, Observatory Corps, Paul Wall,
Pike US and the Rooftops, Loony's and more. All you
have to do is enter the designated keyword today. I'm
thirteen out of the Zone dot com for your chance
to win. Today's keyword is bat. You know we've had
Fest and Congress and Bridge and Zwing and bats at
the day's word is that? So good luck to you

(01:09):
there as you try to go out there. That sounds
like something you might be interested in.

Speaker 3 (01:12):
The Cameron's a good lineup with the line up a
lot Paul Wall, Ghostland, observatory.

Speaker 1 (01:19):
The well see uh, and I know you've bumped back
with a couple of those tunes during the course of
the week, so you know, I trust you on that
that that does kind of makes some sense that it
that it that it might be a good lineup, and
so we hope that folks will take advantage of it.

(01:40):
Enter that keyword and enter for your chance to win.
Uh to backfast there. Uh did you watch the preseason
game last night?

Speaker 2 (01:50):
I did not? Okay, it was.

Speaker 1 (01:55):
Patriots and uh Eagles last night and and the Eagles
won at fourteen thirteen a break up the Eagles for
two and zero.

Speaker 2 (02:06):
Now the preseason Patriots fell to one on one. So
just saying.

Speaker 1 (02:13):
Tomorrow, in addition to the Cowboys Raiders game, which is
a nine o'clock kickoff in Las Vegas, you have the
Falcons and Ravens, the Bengals and Dares. The Texans host
the Giants at noon tomorrow, Lions and Chiefs. That's an

(02:34):
NFL network telecasts, Vikings and Brown, Seahawks, Titans, Cardinals, Colts, Commanders, Dolphins,
Bills and Steelers, Jets and Panthers, Rams and Chargers and
Bengals or excuse me, Bucks and Jaguars, and then the
Sunday games Packers, Broncos and Saints.

Speaker 2 (02:54):
Forty nine ers.

Speaker 1 (02:55):
So there's the preseason lineup for games Boys aside aside,
Do you make much of an effort to watch a
much preseason NFL?

Speaker 2 (03:07):
No, not really, not really.

Speaker 1 (03:10):
Now you would categorize yourself as a you know, as
a big NFL fan, right, yeah, I would say so.
I mean, in addition to watching the Cowboys, I mean,
you're like watching other games in the NFL. You're you're,
you're coming into it, but you're not gonna learn too

(03:31):
much from the preseason though. That's the that's you're not
gonna you know, learn about offense. I think back to uh,
Miami Dolphins last season and uh the way that Mike
McDaniels utilized the motion in his offense that when it
came to Week one, that just took the NFL by
storm and led to Tua and Tyreek having a phenomenal

(03:55):
year and the Dolphins at one point being one of
the best teams in the NFL before injuries, so their
O line and defense caught up to them.

Speaker 3 (04:01):
None of that came in preseason. None of that came
in and OTAs or training camp, and in fact, everyone
was kind of surprised by now. Of course he had
probably been working on that since the season ended. So
what we're gonna see in preseason again, it just goes
back to the threes and fours. Who's gonna make the team,
who's fighting for their job, Who is someone that might
be trade bait stuff like that. So you know, there's

(04:24):
a couple guys, rookies, you know, curious to see, like
Drake may or Jaydon Daniels, you know, vets like Trey Lance.
She might be curious to see. But besides that, you're
just not gonna learn too much. And I mean, we
get eighteen weeks of football now. I know some people,
some people were just counting down the days until they
can see snaps on a football field, and hey, that's you.

(04:45):
A power to you. But for me, you know, we
consume so much sports and so much football. I prefer
to watch it when it's meaningful. That's what we're gonna
get in week one.

Speaker 2 (04:55):
Yeah, yeah, it's true.

Speaker 1 (04:56):
By the way, speaking of things that are kind of
along the line of season in high school football, scrimmages
underway this weekend, the first of two weekends of scrimmages
will be going on schools against other schools, So the
slow ride and the build up continues there as well.
Interesting take being up in the Dallas Forward Metroplex during

(05:21):
the course of the week, hearing a lot of things
where and I you know, I guess this just depends
on how you view Dak Prescott anyway, but by and large,
Dak Prescott is getting some really really favorable support press, coverage, commentary,

(05:53):
and that from the fans as well, because here's a
guy that folks are waiting to see a contract get
done for him, and it's not done in that There
he is in camp and he's as we knows, and
knee and ankle injuries and things of that nature, but
here he is. He's in there, he's grinding and he's working.
So naturally the media who are out there covering the

(06:14):
cowboys in Oxtar are feel compelled to ask Dak about
all this, and it's happened on an almost daily basis,
and he has stayed the course with a lot of
what he said yesterday, he said and here's the quote,
I'm not putting that much thought into hoping he gets
done now, hoping he gets done in a couple of

(06:34):
weeks during the season or whenever it happens. I just
know conversations are on the right way. So he's making
twenty nine million this year and he's counting fifty five
million against the cap, and so if he doesn't get
an extension, he'll hit free agency in March, and he
will count forty million dollars against the cap for the

(06:57):
Cowboys in twenty twenty five. Which is why lot of
Cowboy fans this is just another you know, rendition of
what in the world is Jerry doing? You know that
that kind of thing, because eventually the bill comes due
if you don't get a deal done. And the Cowboys,
don't get me wrong, Jerry Jones and Steven and you

(07:21):
know they would they would like they would love to
get a deal done with him. But you can tell,
since he's supposed to count fifty five million against the
cap this year and another forty million against the camp
the cap next year if he leaves a free agency,
they would love to get a deal where they can
again push the future back, defer signing bonus defer, signing

(07:45):
bonus defer. That's that seems to be the way of
teams to do defer the money on down load. That's
why it's twenty nine million this year and our fifty
five million this year and forty million next year against
the cap deferred money on down the road. So, at
least to Dak Prescott's credit, he says, I'm in here,
I'm working, I'm not worrying about that.

Speaker 2 (08:07):
We'll get the thing done.

Speaker 1 (08:08):
And and we hear, we don't hear a lot of
acrimonious conversation coming from not only Dak and also from Jerry,
not just with that contract but with the other contracts.
We keep hearing that they're getting closer and closer on
Ceedee Lamb's deal, and that Micah Parsons that they'll get

(08:31):
a deal done with him. So it's a little bit
different than when you're hearing a lot of people just
say flat out, this isn't this isn't good. It's going badly,
it's going to end badly, it's all going to blow up,
you know, that kind of thing. Because Dak apparently is
willing to play through this deal and make his twenty
nine million and then walk if he has to, if
a deal isn't dumb, and he seems to think it'll

(08:52):
get done at some point during the season, if not before.

Speaker 3 (08:55):
Yeah, from today and yesterday, it sounds like the wheels
are in motion, progressing towards Deal's not just for Dak Prescott,
but for CD Lamb. So positive news after last week,
probably a week ago, it sounded alike, man, things weren't
going in the right direction at all. But for Dak Prescott,
he had a good update yesterday talking about the deal
he thinks will likely get done, hopefully soon. And then

(09:17):
for Ceedee Lamb too. It's being reported by Calvin Watkins
with Dallas Morning News that Ceedee Lamb's reps and the
Cowboys reps had a good phone conversation before the Cowboys
departed for Las Vegas yesterday, somewhere around the thirty three
million dollar mark, which average Andrew Salery about thirty three million,
which put him just behind justin Jefferson and just ahead

(09:42):
of I think AJ Brown, So good neighborhood for CD Lamb.
He he doesn't want to be the number one receiver.
He's okay with just being in that ballpark. So it
would be huge for Dallas to lock up ceed Lamb
and Dak Prescott. I wonder if they watched Trey Lance
play on Sunday and just yeah, he's not going to
be the future answer, he's not it.

Speaker 2 (10:04):
He's not it. He's not it.

Speaker 1 (10:06):
Yeah, And and to your point about Dak saying all
the right things, here's another quote. I enjoy being a
cowboy one thousand percent, enjoy living in Dallas, enjoy everything
about it. And then Dak said something that we've heard
Jerry and Stephen Jones say, we've heard other players say,
and here are the words quote. But this is a business.

(10:27):
Conversations are going well. But I'm thankful to be where
I am right now. And that's here. So he's saying
the right things. The Cowboys are saying the right things.
It's just I know, cowboy fans are like, can we
get this thing done? You know, can we can we

(10:48):
get it done? You know, don't fit a while, roam burns,
Let's get this deal, both all three deals.

Speaker 2 (10:55):
Eventually. I think the Parsons deal will probably be the
last thing. Maybe.

Speaker 1 (10:58):
I know, last we you were talking about, you told
maybe Mike Is deal might get done before Dak. Now
it's sounding han't heard much about my comparsions deal.

Speaker 3 (11:08):
We know the Cowboys operate. I like to wait until
the last second. So we'll be having the same conversations
about Mike cal Parsons a year from now, Yeah, probably so,
And also will probably be starting to see who will
be also contract eligible for after next season.

Speaker 2 (11:23):
Let's see maybe Tyler.

Speaker 3 (11:24):
Maybe Tyler Smith will be talking about Tyler Smith holding
out for his next deal.

Speaker 2 (11:28):
So it just continues to go on and on.

Speaker 3 (11:30):
Instead of getting ahead of it, just go ahead and
locking up these guys now, kind of like how Howie
Roseman's done in Philadelphia. Dallas likes to wait until the
very last second. But if they can get Dak done
and get CD done, get him on the football field
this year, that'll be a good sight to see for
Cowboys fans.

Speaker 1 (11:48):
Coming up next we shift back to college football. We're
gonna hear more from Longgorn players Michael Taff and also
Calvin Banks. We'll do that when we continue on sports
Radio AM thirteen under the zone of the iHeartRadio app.
