Speaker 1 (00:00):
Walgbart's getting ready to have a scrimmage tomorrow inside the stadium.

(00:05):
Michael Taff has been practicing, has been working, but he's
also had to do it with a cast on the
hand and the wrist, and he was asked what it's
been like practicing with a cast and when can he
be a fool go without the cast.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
I'm full oy right now. I'm ready to go.

Speaker 3 (00:24):
I've been playing, I've been hitting, I've been tackling, I've
been catching.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
So I'm ready to go. You know, I don't know where.

Speaker 3 (00:32):
The process is right now, going in the first season,
but I know I'm full go. I'm not gonna let
anything get in my way. I believe that I'm a
ball hawk and so it doesn't matter what I have
on my hand. If I see the ball in the air,
I'm gonna go get it.

Speaker 4 (00:45):
Well, there you go.

Speaker 1 (00:47):
He's one other topic that's come up has been about
the preferred walk on.

Speaker 4 (00:52):
So now the walk ons have kind of helped.

Speaker 1 (00:53):
And who knows what the change in college athletics and
college football where that might be an issue. And he
was asked, since he was a walk on before earning
a scholarship, have any of those pwo's the preferred walk
Ons asked him what it takes to earn a spot
and to ultimately earn a scholarship.

Speaker 3 (01:15):
Man, I appreciate that question because I think that's the
most you know, important thing in my life is being
significant to others, more importantly being significant to my teammates.
And so I think it's so special when guys ask
me individually what does it take to get to a
spot where I want to be at?

Speaker 4 (01:35):
And so that's so cool.

Speaker 3 (01:36):
That has happened a couple of times, and I'm so blessed,
and I try to give my full, honest opinion to
those guys that asked that question because I know.

Speaker 4 (01:47):
It means a lot to them.

Speaker 3 (01:48):
If they're coming up, they're having you know, you know,
they're being brave to come up to an older guy
and asking them what it takes, And so I really
appreciate what when they ask me, I tell them, you know,
there's there's a different between dreams and goals. Your dreams
are to start one day, but your goals are what
can I do this week? Can I do no loas
if I'm a defensive back, can I you know, make

(02:11):
every single tackle? Can I communicate on every play and
so just little things like that, and then I forget
your first question.

Speaker 4 (02:20):
What was the first question?

Speaker 1 (02:22):
Well, we can tell you what one of the questions
will be as as the game slowed down for him
and he now now that he's worked his way from
walking into a scholarship player and starting in the secondary.

Speaker 3 (02:32):
For sure, I think, like I was kind of mentioning
in the ear piece part, I think the game has
slowed down as far as offenses tempo, and I know
where I'm going with my stance or I know where
I'm going as far as my coverage, and so I'm
really looking at the offense and seeing what are they
trying to do to me? How can I manipulate this
quarterback to get him to throw it to this spot

(02:55):
where I know I'm going to be at set hut
into where I can make a play, or where where
can I put my linebackers or my corners in a
position where they can.

Speaker 4 (03:04):
Make a play.

Speaker 3 (03:04):
Because at the end of the day, if they make plays,
then that looks good on me too.

Speaker 4 (03:07):
So yeah, no doubt about that.

Speaker 1 (03:09):
So does his role change this year now that he's
earned playing time and a spot in there. And by
the way, what did happen to his arm where there
was a rumor that he was arm wrestling Arch Manning.

Speaker 3 (03:20):
No, I wouldn't want to arm wrestle arch He's a
he's pretty big. I know his legs are huge, but
he's a strong man. He can sling it too. So
I think as far as my arm, I got surgery
in May, and so it's been a great process. The
doctor's very pleased with how it's going. And so I'm
making very good shrides. Like I said, I'm full live,

(03:43):
I'm tackling, I'm catching, I'm getting off blocks, and so
everything that you need to do as a dB, I'm
doing it.

Speaker 2 (03:50):
And so I can I can.

Speaker 3 (03:52):
Play at the highest level with whatever is on my hand,
and so it is.

Speaker 4 (03:58):
I think I'm just excited. Yeah, that's good.

Speaker 1 (04:01):
And he's a leader, and as a leader with some
of the advice he would give to the newcomers on
how to get through, among other things, the heat of
the August sun.

Speaker 3 (04:11):
Yeah, I think the first piece of advice is you
got to look at the heat as an advantage for us.
We get to practice in it every single day. Our
first game Colorado State. I don't think it's one hundred
and five on the turf at Colorado State right now
at three thirty. And so we got to look at
that as our advantage because we play that game, that

(04:32):
first game August thirty first, in the heat.

Speaker 2 (04:34):
And so I kind of tell them is like, just
embrace it.

Speaker 3 (04:37):
Embrace this pain right now, because you're gonna get on
the field and you're gonna be so thankful that we're
doing it right now, and this is not your first
time doing it August thirty first, because your adrenaline is
already gonna be running. You're so excited to run out
of the tunnel be in front of one hundred and
five thousand fans, and so you're not even gonna worry
about the heat. And so I think you got to
take that as an advantage.

Speaker 1 (04:59):
So there's some thoughts there from Michael Taff Mookie Is
his teammates calling, a couple other things from Kellen Banks
just one piece of sound I really went you to here.
First of all, there's one talking about what does he
study h now at the high level and who really
helps him with things like like questions and things like that.

Speaker 5 (05:21):
The guys that I like to look at the most,
I would say are Andrew Thomas, tent Williams, Lane Johnson.
I just added, I just started looking at Lane Johnson
and then uh, Tristan words, those are those are some
guys that.

Speaker 6 (05:37):
I kind of like to look at the most.

Speaker 5 (05:39):
It's the other guys, obviously I look at I really
almost look at everybody in the NFL, but those are
some guys I like to try to nitpick and see
little things that they do differently on different situations like
must past, must run situation.

Speaker 6 (05:51):
There's different things like that.

Speaker 5 (05:52):
And probably outside outside of football, man, I couldn't I
couldn't say I couldn't say anybody else all the football.
But because I really just get x flood all the
questions right now, because it's kind of in that we're
in We're in the team, We're in team house right now,
so Flood he answers every question I have.

Speaker 1 (06:11):
There you go, h he is a preseason All American.
He's on the Joe Moore Award watch list. Uh is
that a priority? And by the way, how much is
he looking forward to going up to Michigan.

Speaker 5 (06:23):
I feel like for any old lineman in college football,
the Joe Moore Award is definitely something that's at the
top of your list, something you want to have at
the end of the season, and just my role in that,
just being able to finish my blocks, show show, show
other guys, or if somebody else is slacking, just me
being able to bring them along and hopefully they bring
me along as well if they catch me slacking off

(06:44):
as well, and just us as a whole old.

Speaker 6 (06:46):
Line being able to communicate.

Speaker 5 (06:47):
And uh kind of just think is one as we
play and and what was the second question.

Speaker 2 (06:53):
The showdown with the Michigan defensive line.

Speaker 5 (06:55):
Yeah, it's gonna be a great game. Michigan has a
great defense, so I'm looking forward to it.

Speaker 4 (06:59):
All right.

Speaker 1 (07:00):
And then finally, uh, this is one that I found
humorous about how much pride does he take in keeping
quin yours jersey clean, not allowing him to be sacked.

Speaker 5 (07:13):
Uh. Yes, I take a lot of pride and making
sure Quinn is not touched by my man, because that's
that's kind of the main focus as as any Oldlaman
is winning, winning, your winning your box. And then once
you win your box, you can start, you can start
to build, build more and more.

Speaker 6 (07:31):
But once you when your one thing.

Speaker 5 (07:33):
Flood always says that that just came to mind, is
he always tells you when your one on ones, if
you if you can't win your one on ones, you
can't play. So long as you win to your one
on ones, you'll be fine. So it's definitely a big
pride and enjoy I take making sure Quinn is protected.

Speaker 1 (07:46):
There you go, make sure he's protected going a man
put his hands on him. All right, We'll be back
to wrap up today's programming. To wrap up the week
