Speaker 1 (00:00):
Get after doing.

Speaker 2 (00:00):
Everybody, welcome to the program here on Sports Radio A
in thirteen hundred of the Zone.

Speaker 1 (00:03):
My name is Craig Wait.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Thanks very much for joining us on this very hot
Wednesday afternoon. Always glad to have you alongside and as
always pleased to be joined by the producer, Cameron D.

Speaker 1 (00:14):
Parker.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
The D on the birth certificate stands for Dallas, as
in Cameron Dallas Parker named in his father named him
and mother with the middle name in honor of his
dad's favorite football team, which became his favorite NFL team,
even though he's pledged not to watch them this fall
unless they reached the NFC Championship game. Let me ask

(00:38):
you this, did you watch any footage of the fire
at their team hotel?

Speaker 3 (00:42):
Did you see any of that. It's funny because I
heard fire. I was like, yeah, it's been a dumpster fire. No,
there's an actual fire at Cowboys training camp.

Speaker 2 (00:53):
Yeah. Fortunately, and we can all laugh about this. Nobody
was injured. There was a fire that broke out at
the residence in.

Speaker 1 (01:03):
You know that residence in has.

Speaker 2 (01:06):
Been around a long time. It was the training camp
home of the Raiders. The first time they were in Oakland,
Wow before they went to Los Angeles and then back
to Oakland and now in Las Vegas.

Speaker 1 (01:22):
Anyway, it was.

Speaker 2 (01:23):
The training camp home of the Raiders for years, Oxnard, California.
It happened in one of the guest rooms, which was
empty at the time. Sixteen fire trucks thirty five firefighters
responded to the situation. It was reported just after five
o'clock Pacific time yesterday. Fire was out fifteen minutes after

(01:45):
it was reported. The cause of the fires investigated being investigated.
The Cowboys thank the Oxnard Fire Department and the ox
Neared Police Department for their quick response and reaction to
the situation.

Speaker 1 (01:57):
Imagine Jerry might have said that, but.

Speaker 2 (01:59):
Anyway, showing smoke billowing out from a room the hotel
and the alarms going off, the firefighters there, and of
course the two practice fields for the team are just
a short walking distance away from the from the rooms
where they stay, and they had a practice open to
the public yesterday after yesterday morning, eleven o'clock yesterday morning

(02:20):
Pacific time. Mike McCarthy told the Dallas Morning News the
fire alarms sounded within fifteen minutes left in team meetings.
Situation was already under controls. He moved over to the
practice field and they had one final open practice this morning,
and then after they play the Chargers, they break camp

(02:41):
and come back home and they have the Chargers on
the weekend and then they then they're at the Ford
Center at the Star in Frisco.

Speaker 1 (02:49):
So they'll do that.

Speaker 2 (02:50):
So are we saying that the Cowboys are having a
scorched earth policy? You know there's the lead training Gamlac
Star in California.

Speaker 1 (03:00):
Wow.

Speaker 2 (03:00):
So anyway, fortunately nobody hurt with regard to that. But
that's one of the NFL topics going on. Yesterday we
brought up the fact that Jerry Jones mentioned that he
thought there was real progress going on, thought that there

(03:21):
was some real progress going on in the negotiations with
Cede Lamb. Cameron remains skeptical, dubious, suspicious that anything will
get done there. Do you think it'll actually get done
in time for the season, He would hope.

Speaker 3 (03:42):
So as a Cowboys fan, what you telling you? God
is telling me yes, Because as I said yesterday, cd
as on the leverage, if you go into Cleveland Week
one without your starting white out, your receiver number one,
a top five white out in the League, someone that
was in top five, top three every receiving statistical category.

(04:03):
You're gonna go in the Cleveland on the Road week
one and not have ceede lamb for Dak Prescott. Good
luck with that. You can already go ahead and just
chalk that up as a week one loss.

Speaker 1 (04:15):
For CD.

Speaker 3 (04:16):
You know, keep holding out until you get what you want. Now,
we keep hearing they're not far apart. But again, if
it's really just between thirty two and thirty five million,
he's not asking to be the highest paid receiver. At
least that's what we heard now. Of course it could
be different, but like, what's what's the hang up here?
Like it should this should this should already have been

(04:36):
signed months ago. But you know, are seeing the same
issues with Brandon Niyuk and Trent Williams and Jamar Chase
and a handful of other whiteouts. Yeah, so it's not
just uh just sticking. It's not just the Cowboys who
have this issue, but they're definitely given the most coverage
because it is the Dallas Cup.

Speaker 1 (04:53):
Well, yeah, there's that.

Speaker 2 (04:56):
Uh, there's the other shoe dropping of seeing if Dak
Prescott is going to get a new deal done. Meanwhile,
there's lots of quarterback news going on around the NFL
as teams are naming their starters. Bo Nicks named as
the Denver Broncos starting quarterback. It was announced today by
Sean Payton, and like I said, I watched the game

(05:20):
where a lot of the game on Sunday when Denver
beat Green Bay, and Nicks looked pretty good. He was
eight of nine for eighty yards and a touchdown. He
had the one mistake where he stepped across the line
of scrimmage and through a touchdown pass it came back.
He ended up having settle for a field goal on that,
but he otherwise he did really well. He also just
kind of got away surged ahead of Bo Jarrett Stidham,

(05:44):
the former Stevenville yellow Jacket briefly at Texas Tech and
at Baylor before winding up at Aubord, and also Zach
Wilson the trade acquisition. Over the past couple of weeks.
Peyton had not wanted to go as far as to
name him the starter after the Week one thing when
he was fifteen to twenty one fo one hundred twenty

(06:04):
five yards in a touchdown, but then after Sunday evenings performance,
it became pretty obvious he was going to be the
starting quarterback, and he has been named the starting quarterback
the Patriots. Is it going to be Drake May? There's

(06:25):
Gerd Mayo, the first year head coach, saying his quote was,
I don't think many rookies are ready to just jump
in and play. He said that, And Jacoby Brissette has
kind of been assumed to be the guy until May
was quote unquote ready now, but there seems to be

(06:47):
more of an indication that put it this way, if
Drake May is not named the starter, he has a
shot to win it early on if things do not go.

Speaker 1 (06:55):
Well by that.

Speaker 2 (06:57):
But the Patriots hope to side by Monday night who
will be their starting quarterback about twenty four hours after
their preseason finalege in Washington. So Drake May has progressed
and impressed, but right now Jacoby Brissett is still the guy.

Speaker 1 (07:16):
So so there's still that as well.

Speaker 2 (07:20):
And there's been and also other quarterback news. Justin Herbert
is back on the practice field with the Chargers. He
had that foot injury. We know he'd had problems with
the with the foot, but he's back. Matthew Stafford after
having tightness with his hamstring, his back with the Rams
playing and then Gardner Minshew this week was named the

(07:48):
Raiders starting quarterback, so we'll see, we'll see how all
of that goes after that one final week of the preseason.
This week, all right, coming up a few minutes, we'll
hear from Malik Muhammad, Manny as they know him, the
long worn sophomore corner who has that at times dazzling

(08:11):
defensive playmaking ability.

Speaker 1 (08:13):
We'll hear from Manny Muhammad. Coming up.

Speaker 2 (08:16):
We also have Inconceivable this afternoon. We'll get to that.
Later this afternoon, we'll hear from Hayden Connor, the Longhorn's
offensive lineman.

Speaker 1 (08:28):
So we've got a lot of things to get to there.
