Speaker 1 (00:00):
I mentioned that I would go over this because our
man CB on the text line had asked the question
last hour, Greg, are you ready for the return of
Kim Mulki to Austin In February, the women's SEC schedule
was just released. Joe Schwartz comes back to Austin. He's
on my Mulki staff. Joe Schwartz, of course, originally from Waco.
(00:22):
I think he played at Vanguard Prep, and then of
course he was a walk on for Rick Barnes program
and really good dude, Joe is. So I'm glad. I'm
glad he's gamefully employed and working on that. I've never
had any real run in type issues or whatever Coach Mulkey.
(00:47):
In fact, for a time anyway, when she was coaching
at Baylor, she would actually consent to do an opposing
coach interview with me and not too many coaches. I imagine
she probably isn't doing that anymore, but at a time
(01:09):
when coaches were starting to refuse to do that, she
would still do an opposing coach interview with me that
I would use on my broadcast. So I never really
had any any issues with coach I trust me. I
(01:30):
get everything else that has happened and going on and everything,
and by everything, I mean everything both on the court
and off the court. I get it all, I understand.
But to CEB's point, LSU will be one of the
teams playing at Moody Center against the Texas women.
Speaker 2 (01:49):
Now, I wanted to delineate a couple of things here.
Speaker 1 (01:54):
The men's basketball schedule was released yesterday in its entirety. Now,
we had known for some time about the men's non
conference schedule. It had been released some time ago. For example,
we know that the Texas men opened their season on
Monday night, November fourth, in Las Vegas and what's called
(02:20):
the Hall of Fame Series Las Vegas Opening Night at
the T Mobile Arena, and they'll play Ohio States. Not
the first time Texas will have played at T Mobile.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
It was.
Speaker 1 (02:32):
I can't remember if it was brand new. I think
it had been open one year when they played their
against Stanford a couple of years ago, three years ago,
and it was pretty new and it was a nice building,
and that's where they played and the women played. I'll
(02:56):
tell you it wasn't two years ago. This would have
been four years ago. Has it really been that long?
The reason why I Remember this is that was right
in the middle of the pandemic, or toward the backside
of the pandemic. It was in the pandemically altered or
affected season. And it was to be a men's women's
(03:25):
basketball double header there in Vegas, with the Texas men
playing the early game against Stanford, and then the Texas
women were to have played Stanford. And what happened was
(03:45):
Stanford had protocol issues and had to pull out. COVID
was affecting everybody, including my broadcast partner Eddie Orrin, who
flew out on the charter with the team to Las Vegas,
felt fine. They got out there a day or two
before then he started feeling poorly during the workout the
(04:07):
day before the game, got checked out by team doctors
tested positive for COVID.
Speaker 2 (04:14):
So not only could Eddie.
Speaker 1 (04:15):
No longer be around the team and work the broadcast
with me, Eddie couldn't fly home with the team, and
in fact Eddie couldn't fly home period.
Speaker 2 (04:28):
He had to drive.
Speaker 1 (04:28):
Home and spend the night on the road and took
a couple of days to get home, and he felt awful.
Speaker 2 (04:34):
I had to drive back by himself. We felt bad
for him, and.
Speaker 1 (04:39):
So Anyway, that's when that happened, and I guess that
was three years ago. It was twenty one, I guess
is when it happened. Anyway, the Texas Women scrambled and
they were able to get San Diego to come in
on short notice, I mean real short, under twenty four
hours notice.
Speaker 2 (04:58):
San Diego came in and Vic Schaefer.
Speaker 1 (05:01):
Said, I owe them, and they actually played Texas pretty
tough for a while before the Texas.
Speaker 2 (05:05):
Women pulled away.
Speaker 1 (05:06):
The Long Worn Men pretty much had their way with
Stamford and won that basketball game. Then, of course, they
had the return doubleheader in Dallas last year and the
Texas Men beat Stamford again and the Texas Women beat USC.
Speaker 2 (05:26):
In that one.
Speaker 1 (05:28):
So the Long Worn Men will open their season on Monday,
November fourth against Ohio State, and then they play their
home opener is Friday, November eighth against Houston Christian Then
the following Tuesday, November twelfth against Chicago State. Then Saturday,
November sixteenth against Mississippi Valley State. Then they go to
(05:48):
Brooklyn for two games Thursday, November twenty. First, they played
Syracuse at six o'clock in the evening, and that'll be
at Barkley Center in Brooklyn, and then depending on if
they win or lose and who wins or loses, the
second game, they would play the next night against either
Saint Joseph's or Texas Tech they're playing in the other game.
(06:13):
After that, there's home game the day after Thanksgiving against
Delaware State. Then the sec ACC Challenge, they go to Raleigh,
North Carolina to play North Carolina State. They come home
and on Sunday, December eighth, they play two time defending
national champion Yukon the following Thursday. After that, they have
New Mexico State, then Arkansas Pine Bluff on Sunday the fifteenth,
(06:35):
New Orleans on Thursday, December nineteenth, Northwestern State on Sunday,
December twenty ninth. Then they open SEC play on Saturday,
January fourth in College Station against Texas A and M.
Now that launches the SEC schedule. Here's the weird deal
about that. They have Saturday games on January fourth, eleventh, eighteenth,
(06:58):
twenty fifth, first, eighth, fifteenth, and then March first in
March eighth, and they have those opponents.
Speaker 2 (07:09):
They also have their opponents listed for the midweek games.
Speaker 1 (07:12):
The deal with that is the midweek games will either
the keyword there is either either be played on a
Tuesday or Wednesday of that particular week. For example, the
first midweek game is either January seventh or January eighth,
Tuesday or Wednesday at home against Auburn. Then they have a
game in Norman against Oklahoma on either Tuesday the fourteenth
(07:36):
or Wednesday the fifteenth.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
After a game at.
Speaker 1 (07:40):
Florida, they have Missouri at home either the twenty first
or twenty second of January. Then they have Texas A
and M coming in from College Station on Saturday of
twenty fifth, Tuesday or Wednesday twenty eight, twenty ninth. Either
They're in Oxford, Mississippi Chris Beard's Ole miss Rebels. Then
they go to U on Saturday February first, followed by
(08:02):
an either or on February fourth or fifth against Arkansas
at home. Then a Saturday game at Vanderbilt, then an
either or Tuesday Wednesday February eleventh or twelfth against Alabama,
followed by a Saturday home game on the fifteenth against Kentucky.
Then they're off on the midweek in between, and then
on Saturday the twenty second, they go to Columbia South
(08:24):
Carolina and play at USC. Then they have an ether
Tuesday Wednesday, February twenty fifth or twenty sixth at Arkansas,
followed by a Saturday against Georgia on March firth first.
Their final either or is March fourth or fifth in
Starkville at Misissippi State, and then they're at home on Saturday,
March eighth against Oklahoma.
Speaker 2 (08:45):
So those are the games that the men have.
Speaker 1 (08:47):
Now, the women's conference schedule was released just a little
while ago, but it's but they don't have the non
conference part released yet and the reason for that is
they're still trying to lock down a couple of opponents
on a couple of days.
Speaker 2 (09:05):
So that's where that is.
Speaker 1 (09:06):
But we can tell you this, the women's first ever
women's basketball, first ever SEC conference game will be in
Norman against Oklahoma Thursday, January second. Now, all of the
women's games, there's no either oars. They're all Thursday or Sunday,
(09:26):
with exception of one big Monday game. Other than that,
every game is either Thursday or Sunday. Thursday, January second
at OU Sunday, the fifth at home against Arkansas Thursday,
the night at home against Alabama Sunday, the twelfth at
South Carolina, the defending national champions, Thursday the sixteenth at Auburn,
(09:48):
Thursday the twenty third against Tennessee Sunday the twenty sixth
at Ole, miss Thursday, January thirtieth against Missouri at home.
Sunday February second at Texas A and M Thursday February sixth,
Vanderbilt at home, Sunday February ninth, South Carolina at home.
They play home at home in South Carolina Thursday February thirteenth,
(10:11):
at Kentucky Sunday February sixteenth, LSU at home. That was
the game to which CB referred, with Kim Maulkey and
LSU coming in on Sunday, February sixteenth, follow by a Monday,
February twenty fourth game at Georgia, Thursday February twenty seventh
at Mississippi State, and then the regular season finales at
home on Sunday, March second against Florida. So the women's
(10:36):
SEC conference schedule is out, but the men's conference.
Speaker 2 (10:41):
Schedule is not out yet. So that's where that is.
Speaker 1 (10:46):
So just to let you know, all right, coming up,
I've got some baseball notes to get to. We'll do
that when we continue right here on sports Radio AM
