Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well, let's ask him, Roger wild Score Sports Director. Okay,
x and I'm my broadcast partner long Worn Football Game Tour.
If you were to select be asked to select a
Jimmy Buffett song that would fire people up, what would
it be?

Speaker 2 (00:14):
Well, you'd have to get to the right part of it,
but I would say I'd go with one particular harbor.

Speaker 3 (00:20):
Okay, okay, yeah, all right, yep, it's going pretty good.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
I'm going to get people fired up.

Speaker 3 (00:27):
Don't you think Finns could do it?

Speaker 1 (00:29):
Well?

Speaker 2 (00:29):
Yeah, yeah, okay, that's a slam. I mean, you know
Friday Cheeseburgers.

Speaker 3 (00:34):
Yeah, Cheeseburger Paradise. Absolutely, yeah, yeah, there you go. There's
another one, okay.

Speaker 2 (00:39):
Block somewhere, but that's a little more Alan Jackson.

Speaker 3 (00:41):
Yes it is, Yes, it is, Okay, all right, that
that works.

Speaker 1 (00:46):
I you know, I was describing earlier about the different
varieties and I've been talking about it off and on
during the course of the week, the different varieties of
sports related programming that's on the Greater Austin area family
stations via next Star and uh and then I thought, wow,
this is an ever burgeoning thing. You guys have got

(01:08):
this network thing going on. First, let me start with
the most immediate you've got. You've got one more Cowboys
preseason game to air correct.

Speaker 2 (01:18):
Yeah, tomorrow, three Chargers.

Speaker 1 (01:20):
Okay, now that's on, that's on your your regularly.

Speaker 2 (01:26):
Yeah, because we've got uh Tour Championship and then we've
got NASCAR tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (01:32):
All right, okay, all right, all right, so good, I'm glad.
I'm glad to fix that up. All right.

Speaker 1 (01:38):
This this whole new world that that has been discussed
at length, and I've talked about this.

Speaker 3 (01:44):
Quote unquote whole new world of.

Speaker 1 (01:47):
Things for long worn athletics with long worn officials as
you have as well. Uh. It's funny when I had
Andrew Monica on last Hour, we were talking about this
whole new world of the SEC. But all of this
whole new world stuff also includes programming and for folks
who are used to watching several different Longhorn related programs

(02:10):
in a linear fashion on Long Wore Network, that no
longer is an option, obviously, with Longhorn Network and the
linear version being closed down by the ESPN family and networks.
There is the Long Were Network app which strings things
but incomes your group incomes next our incomes your parent

(02:31):
company and group, and you guys just kind of swooped
in and made it possible for people to still see
several any way of the programs are a customed to see, right.

Speaker 2 (02:41):
Yeah, And when you say family of channel, that's the
key is that we do have three channels we can
distribute programming on. Because it's so difficult to disrupt network
programming and preemp network program you can do it a
little bit, but you can't do much of it. So
the fact that we do have the CW Austin and
we have KBVO that gives us the flexibility to kind

(03:04):
of do exactly what we're doing, and that is uh,
you know Stark expressor on Monday, Uh, and then your
show will will tape it uh and Eric Friday night
longworre weekly so you know your yours will be the
first run on the flagship. But then you know we'll
have it like LHN did in the TV format.

Speaker 1 (03:26):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (03:27):
And then you know the big project is uh Texas
Game Day with one hour before kickoff, a TV version
of a pregame show and that'll be live every week
as well. So yeah, we've you know, it's been a long,
a long process of of you know, when the SEC
came about with Texas and LHN, we knew that was

(03:48):
going to go away in the in the form that
we knew it. Uh, there were going to be some opportunities.
So yeah, you know one of the things we're going
to talk about is is a byproduct of that, and
that's you know, having a chance to sit down with
with coach start.

Speaker 1 (04:00):
Okay, I was gonna, I was gonna lead you into that,
but before I did that, just for for checking the
checklist for Long Worn fans, the show they used to
watch on Long Worn Network, that rewind show that that
doesn't exist anymore.

Speaker 2 (04:13):
Correct, that does not exist. Yeah, it's the old walk
before you can run the situation.

Speaker 3 (04:19):
Ye but yeah, okay, all right, so that's gone the.

Speaker 1 (04:25):
Obviously the Long Worn weekly show that we do, the
radio show just that they used to record it an
era and you guys will do that one on Friday night?

Speaker 3 (04:34):
Is that right?

Speaker 2 (04:35):
Friday night at nine on KBVO.

Speaker 1 (04:38):
On KBVO okay. The Monday presser will be live at
eleven thirty.

Speaker 3 (04:43):
Yeah, kbvo okay.

Speaker 2 (04:45):
Kind of a nice, a nice relationship with those call letters, which,
as you know, we we purchased the rights to those
some thirty years ago when another station in town changed
their call letters and the call letters were out there,
and so this works out kind of.

Speaker 1 (05:04):
Nicely, absolutely, all right, And and then and then we
mentioned the two new things. First, I wanted to give
you a chance to talk about the conversation and with Sark,
and then and then secondly about uh, the the actual
pregame show that'll be put on as well.

Speaker 3 (05:23):
First of all, you had a chance to sit down
with Sark this week, right.

Speaker 2 (05:26):
Yeah, sat down with him Monday for about twenty five minutes,
and it was it was great. It's just you don't
get to do it that often with all the media
obligations he has in the past. His first three years,
you know, those kind of things were primarily long more
network on the TV side or network and then on
the radio side obviously with you. So yeah, we got

(05:48):
we got a nice chunk of time with him and
covered a lot of subjects, a lot about him, a
lot about kind of his time here and how things
have evolved, and uh, and then we got kind of
deep in the weeds on some fun stuff about play
calling and headset communication and how he goes about it.
With Quinn right now, it's just in practice and the scrimmages,
but obviously a week from tomorrow it'll be live. But yeah,

(06:13):
we had a lot of fun and I think I
think we covered a lot of ground that maybe you
don't always hear from him in you know, SoundBite for him.

Speaker 3 (06:20):
Yeah, all right, and that is airing tomorrow. That's tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (06:24):
So we're just saying after the Cowboys game, because it's
a three o'clock kick, you don't know, you know, six
six fifteen, six oh five somewhere in there. But tomorrow
after the CW on the CW rather after the Cowboys
Chargers game, and then next Friday from seven to eight
on k x A N that will be part of
a one hour preseason special that will also include kind

(06:49):
of introducing the Texas Game Day Show with our analysts
and happy to announce it was Alex Okafor and Dan
Neil are going to be our analysts for the season.
So we've got a couple of long worn legends with
three Super Bowl rings between him. Alex is going in
the Hall of Honor, Dan's on the ballot for College

(07:11):
Football Hall of Fame. So you know, we're pretty pumped
about all the different partnerships. We've got going here starting
this week.

Speaker 1 (07:18):
Okay, and for folks on the CWS channel fifty four
KBVO chann that's one.

Speaker 2 (07:25):
And yeah, and you know it's funny. I was I
was talking to my general manager who spearheaded this entire
project partnership, Eric Glassberg, and he said, Hey, a lot
of people just do this and he goes Siri, how
do I watch blank? And it comes up on their
phone and it's It's funny because a lot of people
you hang out with and anytime they have a question,

(07:46):
they do that. And that is probably the simplest way
just to find out, because I know it's you know,
different carriers have it on different numbers. So but yeah,
it's KBBO. It's going to be the primary home of
our our ut content, but sometimes it might show up
on the CW even on kx AN as well.

Speaker 1 (08:05):
Okay, and then the the pregame show that will happen
every week. That's that's gonna be on Saturdays on KBV
a one hour prior to kick That's.

Speaker 2 (08:14):
Right, except I believe the Michigan game is going to
be on KXA and it's harder to do anything after
eleven on on kx AN on NBC because then you
get into their network programming. But because Michigan's an eleven
eleven AM Central Kick, we can do the pregame show
at ten am. It will be live from our studios

(08:34):
and yeah, so it'll be a moving target because it's
going to be always one hour before kickoff.

Speaker 3 (08:40):
Home and Away.

Speaker 1 (08:41):
Okay, And and you'll have your guys from your crew
joining Alex okafor and Dan Neil for that pregame show.

Speaker 3 (08:50):
That's right.

Speaker 2 (08:50):
So Jonathan Thomas will be there if he's covering a
UT game then noah, gross, So those guys will rotate
with Alex and danout the season.

Speaker 1 (09:00):
Okay, A right, And unless we forget, you got in
a whole season of high school football coming up on
both mainly kbv O. But you kind of got it
going simultaneously next Thursday night, don't you.

Speaker 2 (09:14):
Yeah, it's been called our regional coverage for the first
for the first Thursday, because we'll have annual Taco Shack Bull.
We'll put that one on the CW next Thursday night.
And Westlake our partnership with Westlake because they play on Thursday,
we can show that live. They'll play prosper up at

(09:35):
Mary Hard and Baylor in Belton, so that one will
be live on KBVO. So yeah, we've got two high
school games to kick off the season, which is pretty
cool as well. And we're not going up against that
NFL opener, which we will be, you know, in two
weeks right on k XAN.

Speaker 3 (09:51):
By the way, that's true.

Speaker 1 (09:52):
You had the Packers and Eagles from down in South America,
all right, and so all season long you'll have the
Thursday night game though on kbv O.

Speaker 3 (10:01):
Brian Large, correct, that's.

Speaker 2 (10:03):
Right, and that's Keith Morland's back with me on that
as well. And then if Westlake plays on a Friday,
that will be the tape delay on Saturday. And they
do have three Thursday games, so they'll have three live
appearances on KBVO as well.

Speaker 1 (10:19):
Okay, all right, well, I guess it's about ready to
get this whole thing started.

Speaker 2 (10:23):
Right Yeah, yeah, I mean it's it's been a whirlwind.
And I went out I went out to the ranch
with BiVO on Tuesday. That was certainly an experience.

Speaker 3 (10:33):
To a little do a How did he treat you?
How did he treat you?

Speaker 2 (10:37):
You know, he treated me great, although there was some
trepidation when my producer. I'm standing right in front of Bevo,
maybe three and a half feet my back to him,
and they said, can you get a little closer? I
politely says no, No, I think I'm good here. My
back is still to a fourteen hundred pound animal, and
his handlers were there, but they're combined regulars, probably about

(11:00):
three hundred and twenty pounds.

Speaker 3 (11:02):
So but yeah, it was cool.

Speaker 2 (11:04):
It was cool to see see him out in the
on the ranch and everything, and that's that's part of
the promo. And Sark was a great sport helping us
out with the promotion as well.

Speaker 3 (11:14):
So really cool.

Speaker 2 (11:16):
And and you know the thing about Sark and and
and and talking with him, and you've done it, you
know so many times more than anybody else, is that
he's just so comfortable in doing what he does, no
matter what's thrown at him. And I asked him about,
you know, nil and all the changing landscape and and
how you have to lean into it rather than so

(11:37):
many coaches complain about it, and you know, he always says,
you know, I'm gonna do what's what's best for the
student athletes and best for.

Speaker 3 (11:44):
The for the program.

Speaker 2 (11:46):
But you know, I want them to get theirs. I
want them to learn how to get theirs and have representation.

Speaker 3 (11:51):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (11:52):
And then obviously the play calling stuff was really funny.
I asked him because of you know, play calling, do
you know when you when you have him? And he goes,
oh yeah, he goes, but I know when we're in
trouble as well. You know, I think I always think
of that one play. I think of the gunner Helm
touchdown against Iowa State, and you know, he had to
know he had him because I think, what fifteen yards

(12:16):
between him and an offender.

Speaker 3 (12:18):
But anyway, it's fun to hear from his perspective.

Speaker 2 (12:20):
The other thing cool Craig is he talks about how
he goes through the play. He said, he's to the
call sheet before the runner is even officially down, before
the whistle even blows, because he's got to get to
that next play. He goes, I have an idea when
the runner is going to go down, so then I'm
on to the next play. And he said, now that

(12:43):
I can talk to Quinn up to fifteen seconds before
the play clock, I can get a lot of information
to him, you know, with the headset communication.

Speaker 3 (12:52):
So it's just cool to.

Speaker 2 (12:53):
Hear from a play calling and I did ask him
about do you ever imagine not calling plays? And he
said no, And I think his answer was really interesting
why he said that.

Speaker 3 (13:02):
But I gotta leave a little bit for ye. All right,
you do that.

Speaker 1 (13:05):
It'll be borrow following the Cowboys Chargers telecast, Rogers sit
down with Sark, and then all the game week programs,
starting with the live telecast of sarks press conference on money,
which of course we'll have for you live here on
the zone as well.

Speaker 3 (13:19):
Hey, I appreciate it. I'll see you over there on campus.

Speaker 2 (13:22):
Hey, thanks, Craig, take care you bet.

Speaker 1 (13:24):
That's Roger Wallace k X, a N sports director and
of course a broadcast partner on Longhorn Football. All Right,
we've got a nice little shift of gears coming up
when we come back here on Sports Radio AM thirteen
under the zone of the iHeartRadio app.
