Speaker 1 (00:00):
I don't believe I've ever heard the Jimmy Buffett edition
of Another Saturday Night, but I know who has. He
joins us on the hotline now, and that's Roger Walla,
sports director k X in my broadcast partner in Longhorn Football.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
What album is joh, don't do that to me, get
like thirty five.
Speaker 3 (00:19):
It's all Livingston Saturday Night.
Speaker 4 (00:21):
But that's a little different song.
Speaker 1 (00:22):
Uh huh uh huh yeah, yeah, okay, all right, I
just you know, I try to remember You're You're the
You're the the Buffett authority around it, at least in
our circle. So that's why if you know, if anybody
would know what album that that cover of Another Saturday
Night was on, it would be you.
Speaker 2 (00:40):
So that's well, when I was a kid, I collected, Uh,
I did all cassettes, and I would I would borrow
albums and then I would record them on a cassette.
So I didn't have all the album covers. And you
know people that turns into their art and stuff.
Speaker 4 (00:59):
I was a cassette guy, how about that.
Speaker 1 (01:01):
So so while the rest of them, while the rest
of us were collecting baseball cards and comic books, you're
pirrating music on the cassettes.
Speaker 5 (01:09):
Is that the deal?
Speaker 3 (01:10):
Pretty much?
Speaker 4 (01:11):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (01:11):
Okay much? All right, that's good, that's good. Hey, I
want I wanted to.
Speaker 1 (01:16):
We've done this in the past where I have you
come on later in the week to talk about a
variety of things, usually usually with the lead being the
kpv O big game of the week. And we can
certainly start there with the Taco Shack Bowl tonight, but
there's a bonus game uh tonight since uh, since Taco
Shaq will be over on the CW. But uh, there's
(01:37):
there's long warn football to discuss as well. First, let
me lead off of the high school and let me
get you to give the official word, because did I
get it right that the Taco Shack Bowl is on
the CW.
Speaker 4 (01:48):
That's right, that's right.
Speaker 2 (01:50):
Yeah, it's our first ever Thursday night with regional coverage.
So we've got Taco Shack at seven thirty on CW
and we've got Westlake prosper at seven o'clock on KBVO,
our normal Thursday night high school channel. And then so
you get two options tonight and then we go back
to you know, one game on on Thursday on KBBO
starting starting next week.
Speaker 4 (02:12):
So yeah, pretty cool.
Speaker 2 (02:13):
And then we got to sell out down the house
park too, so that that should be fun.
Speaker 5 (02:17):
Is this Gregman from wrong?
Speaker 1 (02:18):
Is this number twelve for you guys for the season
and for the Taco Shack team?
Speaker 2 (02:24):
Fifteen fifteenth, our fifteenth season, our fourteenth Taco Shack Bowl
Because twenty twenty, remember they.
Speaker 4 (02:31):
Had the staggered start.
Speaker 2 (02:34):
Where they started the smaller schools the COVID year before
they started the bigger schools, So Taco Shack wasn't really
Taco Shack because of the way.
Speaker 4 (02:44):
The schedule fell.
Speaker 2 (02:44):
So it's our fourteenth year of starting with Taco Shack,
our fifteenth year of Thursday night high school football.
Speaker 1 (02:50):
Okay, all right, so you kind of let it in
My next question. I was kind of musing aloud about
this last week. Right now, Anderson drops from from six
A down to five A Division one. McCallum has fallen
to five A D two. What happens in two years
if they're both five A D one's or both five
A D twos.
Speaker 5 (03:09):
I mean, the Taco Shak Bowl it goes.
Speaker 1 (03:12):
On, doesn't It is just it gets moved to a
district game later in the year, right.
Speaker 4 (03:16):
That's right?
Speaker 2 (03:17):
Yeah, and I think it's I think they've been district
rivals before.
Speaker 3 (03:21):
Maybe correct me if I want if they.
Speaker 2 (03:23):
Haven't, Yes, yeah, so yeah, it would just not be that.
Speaker 4 (03:27):
Thursday night opener. I got you.
Speaker 3 (03:29):
Yeah, at least I assume it wouldn't.
Speaker 2 (03:31):
I doubt they would make such an exception to open
it with district play and then go to non district.
Speaker 5 (03:37):
Yeah. I have a difficult time thinking that either.
Speaker 2 (03:41):
They can do Taco Shack any time they right, you know,
October or whatever.
Speaker 4 (03:45):
It could be the Taco Shak.
Speaker 2 (03:46):
Yeah, any our purposes, it would kind of be too
bad because we're so used to that getting our schedules started.
Speaker 1 (03:52):
Listen, somebody better go to the you know, the big o.
Better go to Orlando Ordiaga and ask him about this.
I mean he may have something to say about that.
He is, after all, King Blackoshack.
Speaker 3 (04:00):
Right, So you're saying we need to go in depth
on this, I'm.
Speaker 1 (04:04):
Saying that's your option, all right, And since we're going
in depth on the High School Westlake with a good
opener tonight against a Prosper team for folks who don't know,
Prosper's out of Dallas.
Speaker 5 (04:14):
For with Metroplex, it's north of Dallas. We're all at
explosive growth where.
Speaker 1 (04:18):
Frisco is and several of those others I can remember
doing basketball games.
Speaker 5 (04:22):
Tells you how old I am when.
Speaker 1 (04:23):
Prosper was a one A school, one A eleven man
school playing basketball in the early eighties. They are now
one of three six A high schools there and Prosper.
But this is this is a good season opening test
for Tony Salazar's ball club.
Speaker 2 (04:39):
Yeah, it should be should be fun up in Belton
and played at Mary Hart and Baylor Crusader Stadium, and so, uh,
I don't know the total backstory on why it's on Thursday.
Maybe to get the stadium because neither team wanted to
neither school wanted to drive all the way either to
the Metroplex or to Austin.
Speaker 3 (04:56):
Uh so they wanted to meet in the middle. But yeah,
I mean.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
Westley's got three Thursday night games this year starting with
this one, so that should be pretty entertaining as well.
Speaker 4 (05:06):
And they're a little staggered.
Speaker 2 (05:07):
That's at seven McCallum Anderson's at seven thirty, so you know,
a good chance to kind of go back and forth.
Speaker 1 (05:13):
What are some of the other big stories you think
about going into this high school football season this year
in the Greater Austin Central Texas area.
Speaker 2 (05:21):
Well, the one Tomorrow night has turned into you know,
maybe the premiere opening night game of the season. That's
Ripping Springs in Vandergriff yep. And you know what does
Vandergriff do with all the d one talent they lost
or still picked to win win that district and Dripping
Springs what they did last year going four rounds deep
into the playoffs. Weiss A lot of people like Weiss
(05:43):
and they're back playing primarily Central Texas in McNeil, that
should be a fun one. I'm at McNeil picks second
by Dave Campbell. The job they've done there from what
two wins to seven wins last year in a couple
of playoff games.
Speaker 4 (05:59):
So I look at that.
Speaker 2 (06:01):
You know, Liberty Hill is always in the mix, and
and Doug Warren over at Wimberley, he's got a top
five pre season team.
Speaker 3 (06:08):
So it should be fun as usual.
Speaker 2 (06:11):
I think the usual suspects, and uh, you know, because
of the rise of a Vandergriff and a Dripping Springs
and you know, Lake Travis a little more under the
radar than we're used to sing.
Speaker 5 (06:21):
Yep, it's it's a good point.
Speaker 1 (06:22):
And I'm going to give you one more theme at
least that I'm keeping track of, or that I'm keeping
a close watch on, and that is is District eight
five A in Division one. And the key there is
division one because you got Cedar Park and Lake Belton
and Georgetown and Ralse and the East few in there.
With Glenn moving up to the D one level, you
(06:44):
got Leander in there, and then you've got Uh and
you've got Colleen Chaparral.
Speaker 5 (06:48):
Here's the weird thing about it for me.
Speaker 1 (06:50):
There's all those schools in there, and Cedar Park is
the favorite in that district. You want to make sure
you win that district because the way this thing aligns,
they are in red lines up with seven to five
a D one. Can you imagine a by district game
between Cedar Park and Highland Park because it can happen
(07:11):
or Lufkin even that's how weird that is with that
district seven to five A D one has not Lufkin
as Tyler in there. So you got Highland Park, Red Oak,
mid Lothian, Tyler, Burlason, Centennial, Clebrand and Joshua I mean,
how weird is that deal if you wind up playing
a metroplexical?
Speaker 5 (07:30):
Of course? Just ask rouse.
Speaker 1 (07:31):
I mean, who am I thinking about? Uh havn't played
the Soda the last two years?
Speaker 5 (07:38):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (07:38):
Exactly.
Speaker 3 (07:38):
I think they played the Soto tougher than anybody a
couple of years ago.
Speaker 5 (07:42):
That's right, That's right. So that's that's a weird thing.
Speaker 1 (07:46):
Yeah, so you want to stay out of that lower
spot if you can out of that deal. All right,
let's let me get your thoughts again. We were moving
on to talking uh Loghorn football. We had our first
taping of Longhorn. We leave with Coach Sark last night
over at Pluckers and we'll at the radio versions coming
up at five o'clock this afternoon here on the Zone
(08:08):
because of the Round Rock Express game tonight. So we
have that, but you guys have the television presentation of
that is as far as everything's good to go with that.
Speaker 3 (08:20):
Yeah, I checked on that.
Speaker 2 (08:21):
So nine o'clock tomorrow night on KBVO, we'll run your
show with Coach Sark.
Speaker 3 (08:27):
So excited about that.
Speaker 2 (08:28):
And I know your guest was a guy that's helping
us out this year and long run legend Alex okafor
and he'll be on our pregame show Texas Game Day
on Saturday one thirty.
Speaker 3 (08:39):
On KBVO with Dan Neil.
Speaker 2 (08:41):
So we thought, you know, we're gonna go in the trenches, Craig,
I mean, Texas moving to the SEC. It's a line
of scrimmage conference. We're going line of scrimmage with our analysts.
We're going offensive line and defensive line. And they'll join
Jonathan Thomas on Saturday afternoon. So a lot of programming,
a lot of partnering with you guys and do with
weekly and then and then our stuff on on game
(09:03):
Day and then on Monday as well. I know you
guys obviously you air SARK and will televise SARK on
Monday eleven thirty.
Speaker 1 (09:11):
Yeah, I would imagine all of this stuff, this added
stuff has has your building just really percolating these days
because there's a lot of extra work for UH, for
your man, Corey Wieseland, and a lot of extra work
for for for you and for Jonathan and for Noah
and UH and and the entire staff. Really but it's
kind of an exciting time in.
Speaker 3 (09:30):
It, no doubt.
Speaker 2 (09:32):
I mean, you know, l HN UH has owned it
so you know, we get what we can during the
availabilities and there's plenty of chances, but now to actually
have some unique programming affiliated with UT is pretty exciting.
Speaker 3 (09:46):
And what a time as.
Speaker 2 (09:47):
They go into the SEC and uh, you know, the
the ranking, the expectations and all that. So you know,
we're really excited about having some unique programming h with
UT and with co At Sark.
Speaker 3 (10:01):
So that should be a lot of fun. And by
the way, they got to.
Speaker 2 (10:04):
Play some games starting Saturday afternoon.
Speaker 1 (10:07):
Yeah, and I'll ask you the question that Sark has
always asked.
Speaker 5 (10:12):
He was asked at the at the press conference on Monday.
Speaker 1 (10:15):
I think a fan submitted the question last night during
Longhorn Weekly, and the question was what do you want
to see most out of a season opener or or
anticipating seeing.
Speaker 5 (10:29):
The most out of an opener?
Speaker 1 (10:30):
So I put the question to you as we settle
into the booth on Saturday afternoon.
Speaker 2 (10:34):
Well, I'll go, you know more kind of from a
fans perspective who tend to follow the ball and I'm
no different, But I.
Speaker 3 (10:41):
Want to see the run game.
Speaker 2 (10:42):
I want to see you know jayde and Blue, Trey Wisner,
you know Jerry Gibson and and you know, will Quinn
have to throw it more than maybe Sark had thought.
Speaker 4 (10:52):
I don't think he will.
Speaker 2 (10:53):
I think with that offensive line, I think Jayden Blue
is going to bring a breakout guy anyway for Texas.
So that's what I want to see. Obviously, when you
have three scholarship backs before they just added the portal
addition from SMU. You know, health is a concern, but
I want to see the run game and then not
put too much on Quinn in that passing attack. We
know next week's gonna be hard to run the ball
(11:14):
of Michigan. That's regardless of everything else. But I want
to see what happens in the run game, and then defensively,
you know, Anthony Hill Stark said today said people make
a little too much of the whole headset communication. But
what I'm sure he's not making too much of is
the fact that he slides into that Jalen Ford role,
which was so such a lockdown position and such a
(11:36):
great leader and got everybody where they need to be.
Now he's got a lot of help Johnny Barron, Michael Taff,
a lot of veterans. But defensively, I'll be interested to
see that next step with a guy like Anthony Hill.
Speaker 1 (11:47):
All Right, I know you got to get to the
stadium that said you could almost almost couldn't.
Speaker 5 (11:52):
You throw a rock from the k exit.
Speaker 2 (11:55):
Walking there easier than park if it gets too crowded
with the park.
Speaker 1 (11:59):
Okay, Hey have a good call tonight with Keid Moreland.
Look forward to it and I'll see it at the
stadium on Saturday.
Speaker 4 (12:06):
Great, thanks Greg.
Speaker 1 (12:07):
That's Roger Wallas And again, yeah, they've got the doubleheader
they've did, as he says, regional coverage tonight. Taco Shack
Bowl is on the CWKNDA channel fifty four and the
Westlake prosper Game is on.
Speaker 5 (12:21):
KDVO channel fifty one.
Speaker 1 (12:22):
They've got both of those tonight with their live high
school football telecast coverage, and then they'll have the televised
version of Longhorn Weekly with Coach Sark, the radio show
that we did last night. It's coming up at the
top of the hour thirty minutes from now five o'clock.
Speaker 5 (12:40):
You'll hear it today.
Speaker 1 (12:41):
Normally you'll hear it on Thursdays at seven, but with
the Round Rock Express game to night at seven, we'll
bring it to you at five.
Speaker 5 (12:46):
So that's coming up at five o'clock. And then they
have their.
Speaker 1 (12:52):
Their Texas Game Day program coming up, their pregame show Saturday,
one hour prior to kick that'll be.
Speaker 5 (13:01):
At one thirty Saturday afternoon.
Speaker 1 (13:03):
All right, up next, we'll hear more from Steve Sarcasian
and from Rodney Terry when we continue on Sports Radio
AM thirteen under the Zone in the iHeartRadio app
