Speaker 1 (00:00):
Our number two of the program here on Sports thirteen
Under the Zone, we will talk some high school football
and college football with Greg Tepper, managing editor of Dave
Campbell's Texas Football magazine. Coming up in a few minutes.
I did want to get to some sound from Quinn
Ewers here in the segment before we get to the break,
before we have tep on.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
With us, and.
Speaker 1 (00:25):
In specific, yeah, there was the thing about the no
look past, but also in addition to that was just
some other topics as well, Like, for example, Quinn was
asked how much did he and those wide receivers work
together during offseason? Last we heard Matthew Golden talking about
that the work they did in the off season. So
Quinn was asked how much did he work with the
(00:47):
new wide outs and what returning ones they had, like
a DeAndre Moore and Ryan you know, guys like that,
but the newer ones, the transfer portal ones and the
incoming freshmen like Ryan Wingo, how much they work together
in the off season.
Speaker 2 (01:01):
I mean, yeah, we definitely definitely threw a lot. And
you got to know, I mean, I've, like I've been
talking about for the past couple of weeks, how long
it takes them the game in out of brace and
you know how they how long it takes me to
get twelve fifteen yards whatever it is. And I think
I think we did a good job out there, you know,
showing that out.
Speaker 1 (01:17):
Okay, all right, so let's go back to that no
look pass in case you didn't hear about it or
see it. A lot of people that didn't see it
when it was first thrown. I didn't see it. I
just saw it as radular touchdon pass. Then it was
called how to me pointed out to me that it
was indeed a no look pass and that and it
was the I had a couple of Patrick Mahomes references
(01:40):
in the broadcast. That was one. The other was the
arch manning all shovel out out to the side, uh
for the score. And that one was to Bolden, wasn't
it Yeah? So uh the first catch of the game. Yeah.
So anyway, there were there was a couple of those
references there. But Quinn was asked, now, did you really
(02:00):
throw an actual do loup pass? Yeah? That was that
was cool.
Speaker 2 (02:05):
I was going to throw the flat and then I
saw it by the run out, So I kind of
just ok is that short it's that short stop back guns.
Speaker 1 (02:11):
Yeah, all right, short stop back. He did play baseball
in some younger days, So is that something you can
work on practice, kind of develop every now and then.
Speaker 2 (02:20):
But that whole because I don't want to miss it
and get.
Speaker 1 (02:22):
My butt ripped.
Speaker 2 (02:23):
But I guess that some somethings fall, somethings fail, you're.
Speaker 1 (02:26):
Away, okay, all right. So that's one of those Mahomes
references I talked about. The other was on that little
flip pass, uh from Arch to Silas Bolden and what
was yours review of that?
Speaker 2 (02:40):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (02:40):
It was awesome.
Speaker 2 (02:41):
You know it was cool to get him to get
Ah to get him in there and you know, him
to show off his athleticness.
Speaker 1 (02:48):
So it was it was a cool play for sure,
all right. And then finally, uh, pretty big game this week,
getting ready for Michigan. The new rankings are out Texas
up a spot to the number three. Michigan actually dropped one
spot in both Paul They dropped from nine to ten
in the the ap pole and eight to Night and
the coaches, but it is still a top ten matchup
(03:10):
and so Quinn Yours was asked for his thoughts heading
into this Michigan matchup.
Speaker 2 (03:14):
Yeah, I mean we're all we're all excited to get
up there and to be able to play against the
defending national champions. But I mean like we're excited for
the opportunity that that we're that we're granted and you know,
fired up to see see how we handle this week.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
Okay, all right, So there's some sound from Quinn Ewers.
A little later on this hour, we'll hear more from
Matthew Golden and uh and also some more from Anthony Hill.
Speaker 3 (03:39):
A quick follow with that. Craig, Yes, it wasn't in
the audio included, but he was asked, do you still
refer to Michigan as that team up North? Because you
remember when Quinn firstcott here, he said the team up North?
And I think Ryan watched it as well, and Quinn
kind of joke and laughed about it and said, you know,
I kind of I find it funny. I still refer
to him as a team up North, but I'm not
afraid they'll also just say Michigan as well.
Speaker 1 (04:01):
That's a good point, because that was the big thing
with with Yeah, I mean, was it I'm trying to think,
was it was it Ryan Day or was it or
was it Urban Meyer who did that? The team up
north thing? I guess, oh, yeah, that refused he refused
to call knowledgeing. Yeah, yeah, what he Hayes, who once
(04:24):
was asked when his team was blowing out Michigan and
they went for two after scoring late in the game.
They said, why did you go for two? He said,
because I couldn't go for three. That's a great quote. Well,
that's what he Hayes.
Speaker 3 (04:40):
Uh, you know so, I guess. Quinn also referred to
him as a team up North at the SEC media
days as well, okay, and asked about playing Michigan's.
Speaker 1 (04:48):
Okay, Well, yeah, that that probably uh makes some sense
that it would that it would be that way again. Uh.
The new college football rankings came out Texas up one
spot in both polls to number three. Still Georgia and
Ohio State number one and number two in the rankings,
both in the AP and in the Coaches poll. In
(05:11):
terms of the SEC representation, if you just go AP alone,
you have Georgia number one, Texas number three, Alabama number four,
Ole miss number six, Missouri number five. Half of the
top ten are in the SEC. In the AP poll,
in the Coaches poll, Georgia number one, Texas number three,
(05:33):
Alabama number four, Ole miss number five, and Missouri number ten.
So again half the top ten, both in the AP
and the coaches poll are in the SEC Big ten.
The AP you have Ohio State and number two, you
have Oregon at number seven, Penn State number eight, and
(05:54):
Michigan number ten, so you got four from the Big
ten in the AP. And then in the coaches of
Ohio State number two you have Oregon number six, Penn
State number eight, Michigan number nine, and again four. So
five SEC and four Big ten and Notre Dame, a
(06:18):
football playing independent make up the top ten. That's that's
you know, we talked about the power nexus being what
it is. There it is all right. Up next, we'll
talk some college football and some high school football. Greg Tepper,
managing editor of Dave Campbell's Texas Football Magazine. When we
