Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hear from some Longhorn players. First of all, Anthony Hill.
A lot of fun to visit with is Hill and
also a guy who stands a chance to be somebody
really really good. He had a very i'll call it
noticeable freshman season and since then after that it has

(00:22):
been really good. And he was good the other day
and so it was a fifty two to nothing when
as we know over Colorado State. Yet you know, the
players will all tay you they can be better. The
coaches will tall you be better. And one of the
questions for Anthony Hill was was the team physical enough
in this contest to take the opener.

Speaker 2 (00:41):
I feel like we did a great job, but it
could always be better. Of course, we know what we're going
into next week. You know we gotta be more physical.
We know what type puts batter we're getting into.

Speaker 1 (00:49):
So was it a good feeling then to shout out
Colorado State?

Speaker 3 (00:52):
Feel good?

Speaker 2 (00:52):
Especially seeing some of the young guys in where there
had a peak. It felt good seeing like guys like
Ty Anthony Being and marsh getting in. So I feel
this in some of them.

Speaker 1 (01:01):
You know, when he got into the fourth quarter of
the game, we were talking about how really and truly
the only remaining mystery, because this was after Arch Banding
had come in the ballgame and directed a touchdown drive,
and sark and staff were pretty much unloading the bench
just about everybody who was getting on the field, including

(01:23):
Brady Sarkisian. By the way, if you didn't notice, the
coaches kid was out there at linebacker. So these guys
were getting on the field, they were still scornings, still
moving the ball, things like that with all the backups.
So the one remaining question was could they finish the shutout.

(01:43):
They had not had a shutout in a season opener
in twenty years. Two thousand and four was the last
time it happened, when Texas shut out North Texas sixty
five to nothing in them that's the last time. So
the question was put to Anthony Ill. Were they talking
about that shut out on the sidelines? Uh, when even

(02:04):
he was still in the rotation. And then even after
the starters had been pulled out of the game, we.

Speaker 2 (02:08):
Wanted to keep that zero on the boy just for
just for a milestone for us as a team.

Speaker 1 (02:12):
Yeah, all right, So they had that, and then maybe
you noticed this, there's a new turnover celebration.

Speaker 3 (02:23):
You know.

Speaker 1 (02:24):
I guess Miami might have started with the turnover chain
and then he had some of the and then what
was it? It was like an EXCaliber a sword. Is
that what it was?

Speaker 3 (02:31):
So the name of it is text caliber, text caliber. Okay,
that's what the Texas defense is calling it. Okay, text caliber.
So are you gonna work at that into the broadcast
this weekend if it comes up? Text caliber?

Speaker 1 (02:45):
Yes, I am, I think I will. I think I
will on the sideline because it will mean they've come
up with a turnoff, right. So, and then whether they
like run through a football? I guess the deplated football?

Speaker 3 (02:58):
Was it already? Was it the well or you deflator?
Do they actually?

Speaker 1 (03:01):
I don't think they. I actually think I think they
stab and run it through because because.

Speaker 3 (03:08):
Safety has you like that, and all of a sudden
the Anthony Hill's foot, Yeah, I think it's I think
it's already deflated. It just kind of did. I'm sure
Stark and Peek are like, no, no, no, you're not
going to be deflating football's on the sideline. Tom Brady's
not coming over here. We don't want you to lose
and put go wrong with that.

Speaker 1 (03:29):
Yes, uh so anyway, it was that sort of thing.
So you know, then the players were asked about this thing,
and Anthony Hills asked about what does this deal with
the with the football, the sword, that sort of thing
with the new uh you know, turnover thing celebration that
they have now. And and you'll hear a follow up

(03:51):
from our friend Jeff Jones a cave about this as well.
When when Anthony Hill was asked about this new turnover celebration,
it was.

Speaker 2 (03:58):
Something new we all decided to love with.

Speaker 1 (04:00):
So we just liked it.

Speaker 2 (04:01):
We just incorporated to the team.

Speaker 3 (04:03):
What does it mean is it?

Speaker 2 (04:04):
Well, just just keep the track of some of the
tone of east of the game. Just something to celebrate
for the defense we're getting to turnover for him.

Speaker 1 (04:10):
Okay, all right, that's fine, so why not Okay, that's
that's on the defensive side. Now on the offensive side.
I was asked about this. I was on with our
friends from the Ticket in Dallas this morning, good friends,
longtime friends, Craig Miller and George Dunham, and they were

(04:32):
asking me about the chemistry, the synergism of Quinn yours
and the new receiving Corps, And I said, you know
that was a big question during the fall camp was
how quickly would the transfer portal guys as well as

(04:55):
a new guy like Ryan Wingo. How quickly would those
guys be able to to adapt and could they be
as productive or how long might it take them to
be as productive as saying Xavier Worthy and you know
an ad Mitchell, those guys, you know, how would it
all roll in? Well, they were pretty impressive. I think

(05:17):
everybody will agree. And so Matthew Golden was one of
those guys. Now I pointed this out that Golden and
Isaiah Bond both showed Texas up close and personal first
hand last year what they could do when Texas played

(05:40):
their former schools. When Texas played at Alabama and Bond
called a touchdown, when Texas played Houston and Golden called
a touchdown. They got a chance to see that first hand,
plus what Golden could do in the kick return game,
so they knew going in. And then once both of
those guys entered the portal, the long wornes offered them
the opportunity and they accepted it. So Matthew Golden was

(06:02):
one of those guys. And here's Golden caught two touchdown passes,
including the no look throw from Quinn. Ewers also had
a big catch down the boundary and he was asked
what was it that really kind of clicked for him
on why he came to Texas and short, what got
Matthew Golden to Texas really.

Speaker 4 (06:21):
Just the connection with coach Jackson and coach arc you know,
just building that connection. When I entered the border, it
was just I mean it was just Austin, and then
when I took my visit, it just it felt like home.
You know, Austin not too far from Houston. So it
was a no brainer food.

Speaker 1 (06:37):
Yeah, Remember Matthew Golden is from Clyde Keenan Houston Are.
In fact, he was a high school teammate of Jayden
Blue and so it was a very comfortable fit and
feeling for him. Now back to that chemistry thing, because
again it was discussed at length. You know what the
chemistry might be like for these guys and how long

(07:01):
would it take Quinn you Weers to develop that relationship
with these newer targets with Matthew Golden, with Isaiah Bond,
Ryan Wingl, like we said, as a youngster coming in
with Silas Bolden, with Amari and I Black, going at
a tiight end, so you know how long might that take?
And he was you know, asked about what the wide

(07:23):
receivers and quinn ewers did together in the off season
to try to develop that chemistry.

Speaker 4 (07:29):
You know, just just coming to practice every day, working
with Quinn. You know, you know, the defense giving us
good looks. So just just me coming out there, just
trying to get better each and every day. You know,
it's just me putting my best before you know, Quinn,
Quinn is an unbelievable quarterback. I feel like you're the
best quarterback we have and you know, just having him,
it just it just makes everything easier.

Speaker 1 (07:49):
You know. In short, chemistry just doesn't happen. It has
to be built, it has to be developed, it has
to grow. But this came about pretty quickly. And so
Matthew Golden was asked, was he surprised that it developed
so fast here at Texas?

Speaker 4 (08:04):
I would say, I mean just having an adventual quarterback
like that, you know, he makes everything easier on a receiver.
So just me going out there knowing what I got
to do each and every play. I mean, just playing comfortable.
That's all.

Speaker 1 (08:15):
Okay. So there is all of that but you know,
that sort of thing, like we said, doesn't necessarily develop overnight.
And one thing that does help is depth. When you
look at it, on one side, you've got Isaiah Bond
and Ryan Wingo and don't forget about Ryan Niblett who
can also see time and did in the backfield. On

(08:37):
the other side, you've got Matthew Golden Silas Bolden in
the slot. You have DeAndre Moore and John Tay Cook.
At the tight end, You've got Gunner Helm Amari and
i Black and Wan Davis. So there's plenty of pass
catching targets. I think, what was it, Kirk Goles of
the Austin American Statesman asked Quinn Ewers if he if

(08:57):
he had enough footballs because of the fact he's got
so many targets. So Matthew Golden was also echoing those
responses when he was talking about the depth that this
team possesses at the wide receiver spot.

Speaker 4 (09:10):
Yeah, I mean we got a lot of weapons. I
mean in all room deep. So you know, just having
guys like that in the room, you know, it draws
you to come in there and compete east.

Speaker 3 (09:19):
And every day.

Speaker 1 (09:20):
That's a big part of it. So Anyway, we'll hear
more from these guys, and we'll hear some from Quinn.
Youwers coming up as well over the course of the
next couple hours of the show. All right, to let
you know, Yes, the brand new Hot Off the Press
college football rankings are out the new edition, and Texas

(09:44):
has moved up a spot. The first two spots remain
the same. Georgia's number one, Ohio Stage is number two,
and Georgia has a pretty significantly both in the AP
Top twenty five and in the Coaches Top twenty five pole.
Georgia's number one, Ohio State's number two, and then and
there's a pretty good step down there to the number
three spot. But that's where we find Texas. Now, the
long has moved up one spot in both polls. They

(10:09):
are solidly in third, but well off the pace of
second in the balloting in both poles, both the AP
and the Coaches. So it's Georgia number one, Ohio State
number two. Texas is third. Alabama moved up one spot
from number four to number five and number five to
number four Notre Dame following it's win over Texas. Eight. Now,

(10:31):
these are the AP rankings right now, there are some
changes in the AP ranking. It's Georgia, Ohio State, Texas
Alabama up one spot, Notre Dame up two spots following
the win over Texas A and M from number seven
to number five. Ole Miss held its spot at number six.

(10:52):
In the coaches poll, ole Miss moved up one spot
from six to five. Oregon, which had been number four,
dropped three spots in the coaches poll because of that
struggle they had with Idaho. They dropped three spots in
the AP pole, and they dropped three spots in the
coaches poll. Want to make sure I got this right.
They actually dropped four spots in the AP pole from

(11:14):
number three to number seven. They dropped three spots in
the coaches poll from number three to number six. Then
the coach's poll has noted Dame just holding it spot
at number seven. They did not bump them. They bumped
two spots in the AP AP pole, but the coaches
poll they held at number seven. Both teams have both

(11:36):
poles have Penn stated eight. AP has Missouri nine and
Michigan ten, dropping one spot in the Wolverines because of
their struggle for the better part of three quarters plus
against Fresno State, they dropped from nine to ten. In
the coaches poll, Michigan dropped one spot from eight to nine.
In fact, they swapped places with Penn State. Penn State

(11:59):
up from nine to eight, Michigan at nine, and then
Missouri the top ten. So the same ten schools are
in both polls. There's just a little bit of variation
in some of the rankings. Second ten in both polls
begins with Utah at eleven, Miami is twelve in the AP.
Pola jumped seven spots with that pretty demonstrative win at Florida.

(12:21):
Tennessee went up three spots and went to number twelve.
USC is thirteen in the AP, Oklahoma thirteen in the coaches,
Tennessee fourteen in the AP, USC fourteen in the coaches,
Oklahoma fifteen in the AP, Miami fifteen in the coaches.
Then it's Oklahoma State sixteen, Kansas State seventeen in the AP.

(12:43):
Flip flop from for the coaches, k State sixteen, Oklahoma
State seventeen. LSU dropped five spots following the loss to USC,
from thirteen to eighteen in the AP, Arizona up to
eighteen in the coaches, Kansas up three spots to nineteen
after thumping linden Wood. LSU went down seven spots in

(13:03):
the coaches to number nineteen, Arizona's twenty and the EP
went up one spot. Kansas went up four spots or
twenty in the coaches. I was twenty one in both rankings. Louisville,
which was not in the poll last week, is in
at number twenty two. Georgia Tech is twenty three. This
is the AP, NC State number twenty four, and Clemson
fell eleven spots following the loss last week to Georgia

(13:28):
from number fourteen to number twenty five. And the rest
of the coaches poll is Clemson twenty two, NC State
twenty three, Louisville twenty four, Washington is twenty five there
in the rankings. So there's your AP and coaches top
twenty five rankings all right, coming up next, And yes,

(13:49):
Florida State dropped out of the poll now oh and
two after losing is not only did they drop out
of the pole, Florida State dropped completely off the face
of the earth in terms of even being mentioned. They
didn't even get a vote of any kind from any one,
both any AP and the coaches completely out, not even
in the others receiving votes at zero to two. Up next, Inconceivable.

(14:12):
Some might feel that Florida state being Owen two is inconceivable,
but it'll lead us to inconceivable. Up next on Sports
